The Fir Tree Country Hotel in County Durham

Went for Sunday lunch carvery and can honesty say was the best Sunday lunch I’ve ever had, 4 choices of meat and all fresh Veg even Had my favourite mushy peas. Busy place but very well organised. Will definitely return 10/10 can’t be beaten Thank you

Very clean, comfortable, well equipped (but small) rooms. Linen and towels were high quality. The whole place is very nicely presented. Breakfast was very good on both days. Staff were very friendly. We will certainly return.

Always great food. Prices are great, well looked after by the staff. Great service. A definite most for couples, families and anyone who just wants to eat great food

we went for Sunday lunch the place was clean and tidy the staff were nice but the mash potatoes were smash and I think the roast potatoes were deep fried and not roasted the rest was ok as I say I can not leave a bad review we are just used to better quality

Restaurant catering for residents, not a popular night out, many closed Mondays. Looked at Bar Menu for second night aware that portions were LARGE, chose Weardale Roast Lamb in a minted rich pan gravy with spring onion mash AND seasonal vegetables. Three thick slices of tender, sweet Lamb with lots of refreshing Mint gravy hiding a mountain(well a hill) of buttery spring onion mash plus carrots, cauliflower and broccoli as a side! Managed it all bar a small floret of broccoli, delicious, well cooked and presented. Again no chance of eating anything more! Meal £9.95, pint John Smiths Bitter £3.10

What a wonderful place to eat. We had three lunches here while staying in the area. It is very welcoming and such a nice comfortable atmosphere. Every mean was excellent and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Will be back on our next trip!

Have to say the food here is fantastic good size portions and tastes great value for money you can't beat it . I would highly recommend The Fir Tree I'm sure you won't be disappointed

The welcome and the food in the restaurant were excellent. We stayed for 1 night in a spotless room with a comfy bed, however the shower pressure isn't great and we could here the plumbing throughout the night from other rooms. Breakfast was great with the exception of the coffee which we had to ask what it was as we couldn't tell if it was tea or coffee and other guests also had to resort to sachets.

A large group of friends enjoyed a very good evening meal here over the Christmas period. All dishes were generous in size and of a good quality. I was very impressed with how the staff dealt with the preorders - getting all of the food out at virtually the same time, We would definitely visit again.

Stayed here for three nights recently.The rooms are separate from the pub at the rear. The rooms are clean and have very comfy beds with down filled duvets and pillows. The showers lack pressure and not very good. The wifi is non existent.The pub itself is a warm and welcoming place and the food is excellent. One night the four of us ordered the steak pie, it was the biggest portion i have seen and none of us could finish it! Breakfast is cooked fresh and is excellent. In summary, a great place with a few niggles on the room front.

The food is really delicious and it is good value for money. The carvery is especially tasty, but the bar menu is also excellent.

Myself and my daughter stayed at this hotel. What a pleasant surprise, staff were extremely friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. The food was excellent throughout our stay. The hotel room was cosy, spotless and very well equipped with modern decor and furnishings . We would definitely stay here again .Thank you

Stopped off here on the 8th of September the rooms were spotless and had been recently completely redone a little smaller than I we are used to but with everything we needed . The bed was very comfortable and I we had a great nights sleep .We had an evening meal and the portions were more than we could manage and the food was delicious and the staff were lovely . If stopping for a meal make a reservation as the restaurant was really busy .I would definitely stay here again

What a great hotel!! It was spotlessly clean and everything first rate and top quality. Staff were amazing and so friendly. The meals were great value with so much choice. Could not fault anything!
