This pub is very nice and cosy. It has a good selection of beers on draught, and a great variety of bar snacks. They cook their own pizzas, which are nice, although I think they could be a bit larger for the price.

The pizza here is absolutely delicious, we tried 6 different ones (as a very hungry group of 6), and while we planned for leftovers, we ended up with none. Also note, we happened to order during the weekday happy hour (6-7pm) when the pizzas are BOGO 50%off. Great friendly staff, really cool atmosphere. We enjoyed it here very much! A hidden gem for sure.

Really cool bar -- divey, great local pub feel, excellent beer selection. I'm giving it four stars only because the food selection was limited to just pizza. That being said, the thincrust pizza itself was simply excellent, no complaints at all. The price was affordable especially during buy one get one half off happy hour. We simply expected more options because the online menu was out of date, so only a half point off for that. Overall superb experience.

A cosy, homely pub with genuine fuss-free staff. Lovely little nooks and crannies make the interior intimate and charming. They do good pizzas. They have an open fireplace in the winter and a little beer garden out back. A pint of Level Head is as refreshing as can be.

The night I visited The Fir Tree Pub food was not available, but my friends and I all had a delicious glass of beer. We stopped by the pub because I had recently found a book of matches from the pub from 1969 which my husband had kept from his years at Oxford. I gave it to the pub manager who seemed amused.

Went to order half a pint of coke and do quiz with a friend. The landlord said, "drink for two of you." Jokingly, I laughed and said that it was. Landlord said that he disapproved of my choice and said he was trying to run a business, especially after Covid. I apologised and said that I had a few drinks the night beforehand. I even offered to get another drink and he said that I didn't need to spend money if didn't want to. Very taken a back by the comments made by the landlord and sufficed to say my friend and I didn't stay for the quiz. If I wanted advice on how to spend my money, I would have asked for an accountant. Also, I am trying to cut down on my alcohol consumption, my friend does not drink and we have both walked all day and were dehydrated. Sufficed to say we didn't stay and pay for the quiz and I was pretty upset for how I was treated.

Went into a few places but they all had waits. Had seen this place earlier while walking around and since there was no wait decided to give it a go. I enjoyed my beer, the crust on the pizza was fabulous. Pizza could have used salt, either way my husband and I both put down an entire pizza a piece. He hated his beer. One of Oxfords beautiful gems this pub. Always a friendly welcome ,this time of year a warming log fire is roaring away. A good choice of ales and lager. Quirky seating arrangements mean you have a choice of lower bar and higher pub seating. They also produce great handmade pizzas with lots of veggie options too. Great place definitely one of my favourite haunts and now living in Marcham I really miss it but makes it more special when I can get myself to visit. Highly recommended, get away from the generic city pubs and head to this one , you wont be disappointed.

Very cosy pub, we went for a vegan Sunday roast and they managed to squeeze us in last minute. I cannot rate the chef highly enough!! He was rushed off his feet but still found the time to explain the dishes to us as well as the selection of homemade sauces available, all the while keeping a big smile on his face. If you're looking for a big hearty Sunday roast that'll fill you up, the Fir's 'Feast Without the Beast' every Sunday from 12-6pm is worth checking out. There are a few options to choose from, including nut roast or mushroom wellington, and all of them vegan, so your conscience is clear. The portions are massive! This makes up for the fact that the food is pretty standard pub grub - if you are a picky foodie you may want to pass. Prices are standard, about £12 a main. The atmosphere is nice though and the people are friendly. There's a cute little beer garden out the back too.

We found this Sunday pop-up lunch online and were keen to give it a go after reading tales of excellent potatoes and hearty plates of delicious vegan grub. Honestly, the roast dinner was faultless. We both had the mushroom Wellington which came with 4 massive crispy roasties (none of this boiled potato cop-out so many places offer), a vegan Yorkshire pudding, loads of different veggies mostly roasted but also peas (roasted broccoli - a revelation!) and a generous jug of gravy. We also shared a cauliflower "cheese" and delved into the various condiments on offer - mostly, if not all homemade too. The plate of food was huge...we have big appetites but had to get our pudding to go (if you have no room, definitely do this... the pudding we had was so good it would be criminal to miss out). The chef was super friendly, he came out to chat to us when he could and make sure everything was good. He really looked after us which was awesome. The pub itself is a traditional boozer I would say, you feel welcome and it's not pretentious in any way. I'd recommend this roast to vegans, veggies and carnivores alike with something for everyone, definitely book as they were fully booked the day we went, the phone kept ringing as soon as they opened (noon) and they had to turn several people away. Best roast ever!

It's not often that you encounter a pub with a framed wooden mirror at the back of the garden, not for the use of the vaner punter, but simply to reflect the foliage of a potted tree (an olive, possibly) to create a little ambience. But it's not often that you encounter a pub with such effortless whimsy as the Fir Tree, which fits the atmosphere of Iffley Road incredibly well. Forever in the shadow of it's incredibly close, Cowley-monickered neighbour, I have long preferred it, with its quieter nature and towering mixture of B&Bs, churches and student accommodation. If you are making your first visit to Oxford, for whatever reason, it is worth checking this oasis out. Cast recommendations aside! You can watch TV, enjoy a good range of beers and ciders, or head to the tables outside on the street or (even better!) the hidden garden area where there are not only benches but tree stumps in lieu of chairs, so you are never short of a place to perch! My beer - the 'punningly' named tie-in One 'Fir' the Road couldn't be better. More familiar names like Old Trip occasionally make an appearance. They also have a proper jukebox- a rarity these days. Simply, a must!

The chef clearly is passionate about his food and will take time to speak to his customers no matter how busy he is in the kitchen. Did not have room for dessert! Only criticism would be in relation to the furniture in the pub which could do with reupholdering/varnishing. Check it out, Feast Without the Beast well worthy of five out of five. Well done!

We're not vegan but we were hungry and happened upon the Fir Tree so thought we'd give it a try. We thoroughly enjoyed their meat and dairy free roast. Plenty of vegetables, gravy, apple sauce and all served with roast potatoes and yorkshire pudding. I had the nut roast which was fantastic. Really tasty. And my husband loved the cauliflower cheese. For pudding I had the pecan pie which came with vanilla ice cream. You could not guess from the flavour that there was no dairy in the ice cream and the pecan pie was to die for!
