Stayed here for 2 nights, welcoming at check in and very friendly. Reminded reception that we had a dog with us which I had previously contacted the hotel about to be told there was no charge, however now there was a charge of £10 per night. Our room was small (we booked the standard) however it looked nicely decorated and homely. We noticed that once we put the lights on that there were multiple marks on the walls, splashes, damage to the door going into the bathroom which meant the door no longer had a lock just a handle and unfortunately the silicone in the shower was very mouldy. Our first nights sleep wasn’t great, it turns out that the window in room 2 next to the door is damaged which prevents it from sealing shut which allows in all of the noise from the fan/condenser from the walk in freezer which is bellow and the traffic noise from the road which is a main road and is busy from 5am. Our second nights sleep was better but I’m sure that was because we were exhausted from a poor nights sleep the previous night and a busy day walking. We just felt that the room which does not include breakfast is not worth it. The room was tired and grubby in need of a revamp. The small stream outside our bathroom window saved the trip, the view was beautiful and such a relaxing noise. We also choose to stay for dinner in the restaurant on our first night. The restaurant is small and has a country feel. It is however definitely not a seafood or steak pub, a very small menu with at least 3 different flavour pies on and another on the specials board. Only 1 steak on the menu which just happens to be a 6oz fillet priced at £35. My partner is gluten free, I informed the restaurant when making my reservation a week prior to our stay, there were only 3 GF options on the menu. Steak, battered haddock or a chicken and mushroom dish. Well, because he also has a mushroom allergy and refuses to pay £35 for a steak haddock it was. He said it tasted lovely, light and fresh. However within an hour of eating it he suspected that he had been glutened unable to prove but the rest of the night wasn’t great for him. I had the burger, it was tasty but nothing spectacular, bought in fries and coleslaw but not, just red cabbage mixed with mayo and a little gem lettuce leaf. £25 for 2 pints of cider and a double gin and tonic sums up the pricing. All in all, not worth it. Go to the Cross Keys up the road, better value and so much more choice. To add breakfast to your booking which I was unable to do when making it is £15 a head. We decided against this, as the previous nights dinner put us off. Too sum it up, the photos on the website and on booking.com are outdated and the advertisement of a seafood and steak pub is so far from the truth. Great location could have been an amazing break away for us but lacked a lot. The car park is terrible and full of pot holes which isn’t great. I was going to mention all of the above when we checked out however at reception we were not asked how our stay was and payment was pushed through quickly.

We were fortunate enough to find this gem whilst staying at the awesome Claughton Hall a perfect 10 mins walk away a perfect weekend away! We both had the fresh fish on the first night which was amazing. Visited again on the Sunday for a perfect Sunday dinner cooked to perfection. This is a gorgeous well kept country pub with v attentive staff. Very reasonable for the quality delivered would highly recommend.

Perfect meal. Very tasty. Friendly staff. Would highly recommend. Only downside would be too much ice in the gin and no fire to keep cosy by!

My partner and I spent a night at The Fenwick and were very impressed. The room was large, spotlessly clean and comfortable. We slept very well and felt the room was well equipped. Despite being next to a fairly busy road, the noise was minimal. We enjoyed our evening meal and were pleasantly surprised to see how busy the restaurant was on a Sunday evening. Pre-booking is definitely recommended. I had 2 plates from the specials board which were delicious - scallops as a starter and Cajun salmon as a main. Both dishes superbly cooked and very tasty. My partner had the soup and the roast beef, and commented that it was the best soup he had ever eaten. The meals and drinks were reasonably priced and the service was great. A very enjoyable experience. We will definitely be back when travelling up to the Lakes again.

Very friendly and efficient staff. Beautiful y cooked food. Had the chicken and ham hock pie, small portion as there was a choice of sizes, ample for me. Lime and ginger cheesecake was lovely, although the biscuit base was quite hard to cut. Breakfast the next day was a plump beautifully cooked lancaster kipper. Delicious. Overnight room very comfy with great shower and comfy bed

Just lovely, very welcoming and somewhere to return to. All the staff were amazing, polite, friendly and wanted to do everything the could to make you experience a good one. The food was exceptionally good, and they were happy to allow us to just have whatever we wanted. We selected a few different starters as we just wanted to graze with a nice bottle of wine. This wasn’t a problem at all, and it was perfect.

We were here for dinner, bed and breakfast after visiting nearby Gresgarth Hall garden. The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. There were some good options on the menu at reasonable prices; the food was well prepared and presented, though when the Sunday roast beef and Yorkshire pud arrived at the adjacent table I slightly regretted having chosen the pan-seared cod loin (though this was excellent) !!! We washed dinner down with a sauvignon blanc from a quite varied wine list, and the Tomatin malt whisky and Death's Door gin made a welcome change from the more commonly-found pub spirits. Very comfortable rooms and a hearty English breakfast sealed the deal. Wouldn't hesitate to come back again (hopefully soon!). PS if you come here check out the beautiful Forest of Bowland, which we did on the way home

What a delight! Came for an overnight stay with an 11 y/o and dog. Lovely little walk down to the river next to the pub. The food was amazing! We had queenie scallops, and chicken liver parfait for starters followed by the moules marinier and compte pie and the kids chicken. All were a flavour explosion. The little complimentary amuse bouche was a lovely little touch. The staff were amazing. Couldn’t do enough for us. We asked for a quiet table as we have a nervous dog. No trouble. They tried to make him feel comfortable with biscuits and taking the time to talk to him. Now Tom, what a star. Great service from start to finish (and shakes a mean espresso martini)! The room we stayed in was spotless and spacious. Very comfortable and the tower fan was a saviour on a warm evening. Will definitely be recommending this pub/hotel, nothing to complain about.

What a lovely pub, steeped in rich history. Probably just an off day but i had the tikka monkfish special at a cool £22.50. The meat was well well over cooked, dry as a bone and burned to a crisp on one side. There were also some bhajis of a sort on the dish which were just large balls of nearly burned fatty batter, all of this atop the most flavourless dahl i have ever had.My wifes cheese tart was ok, the kids meals were a little strange. The chicken goujons were just strips of grilled chicken which i guess you could argue is reasonable but the sausage and mash with a small ramekin of bisto which was impossible to pour.Shame. Will probably go back because the setting is amazing. Historic pub. Hopefully an off day,

We visited for an overnight stay to celebrate my partners 40th. The whole experience was wonderful. Easy check in. The room was outstanding (room 7) a huge bath, very comfy bed and little extras that just complimented the whole room (sparkling water, variety of teas and coffees, biscuits and the most wonderful smelling toiletries)FYI for those in need The room also had an iron, ironing board and hairdryer. The evening meal was outstanding as was breakfast With fresh local produce and excellent service.Ben and his team gave every attention to detail and went the extra mile by putting up a happy birthday banner for our table. I can’t explain in words how much of a wonderful weekend we had and I can’t wait to go back.Thank you all at the Fenwick x

Returned to our favourite local pub this weekend and pleased to say was just as good as we remember . Food was excellent , we had scallops , king prawns and the pot pie and halibut - all delicious , the halibut could have done with new potatoes but that is the only minor criticism. The breakfast was huge , definitely bigger than I remember , but delicious and even did fried bread as a special request. The staff were so attentive and had the fenwick friendly , kind and professional manner which is remember it for . Special mention to Connor who looking after us for our evening meal and Chloe at breakfast , both looked after us particularly well . Our room was very clean and spacious ( room 8) and bed was so comfortable , slept very well. Overall we had an excellent night and so glad Ben and his team have re established a brilliant place we love and carried on the good work! Can’t wait to return again .

Came here for a spur of the minute Sunday lunch with our 9 year old daughter! The menu is very impressive with a fantastic selection of seafood as well as meat and vegetarian dishes! The childrens menu was one of the best I’ve seen with more interesting dishes along side the usual boring chicken nuggets! My daughter chose a children’s chicken roast dinner which was the perfect size and came with a Yorkshire Pudding the size of her head! My husband and I also opted for a Sunday roast with delicious head sized Yorkshire’s too! It was all next level in quality and taste! The service was also next level with all the staff being friendly and helpful! We are already planning our next trip

We were the first food customers through the door at the re-opening of The Fenwick and were pleased to see the staff snap to attention and immediate service ensue. We have been to The Fenwick before and stayed in one of their lovely (really) rooms, but this evening was purely a food visit and we were eager to see how this venue compared with our - also newly re-opened - regular watering hole (owned and run by the same group/chain) The Farmer's Arms in Great Eccleston (tip: The Farmer's is well worth a visit, especially now the beer garden has been extended, from lunchtime through to early evening it is a great sun trap). We were shown to our socially distanced table, asked to check in by the suitably masked staff as per covid regulations and provided with single use main and drinks menus (single use currently due to covid). We ordered the following and if you don't want to read any further I can say the service and food was excellent:Sour Dough bread and butter (literally a full small loaf, served warm after being seated on a griddle), very tasty especially with the real butter.Cheese fritters and piccallilay with a small salad garnish. The home made piccallilay tangy sweetness cut nicely through the moreishness of the hot melted Lancashire cheese. A good size starter. Vietnamese steak skewers. One of the nicest starters I have had for a long time. Some great thought has successfully gone into this dish.Chunks of lean steak on a wooden skewer, cooked medium. Served with a beansprout and sliced chilli based salad garnish with an excellent sweet and savoury dressing, accompanied by a small dipping pot of like juice also containing sliced chillies - may sound a bit odd but imagine it like the taste of a balsamic reduction, it went extremely well when dipping the steak into it. An idea I'll certainly be trying at home.I was going to go for the peppered tuna steak as a main course however, due to a supply issue and the venue only wishing to serve the best and responsibly sourced produce it wasn't available on the opening night. Understandable that their are small glitches after such a long time shut and not really an issue with the menu being full of other temptations.I asked for a recommendation from two possible and opted to go with it. I was pleased I did, the Persian chicken with jewelled rice was actually a taste sensation for me. The locally sourced chicken breast was slightly flattened to cook evenly and seared on a grill/griddle, served with probably the best rice I have ever had. It was laced with fruit and served on top of drizzled yoghurt and harissa.Normally I'm one for compartmentalising my food (eat some chips, eat some peas, eat some fish) but the components of this dish worked just so well together that I was collecting bits of everything and shovelling it in. Honestly loved it, I will certainly be ordering it again (and again). I appreciate it is "Persian" but if you like the basic Indian components like mango chutney, rice, sultanas, sharp lemon yoghurt, then just order it.Being a cheese-aholic, no more a cheese addict, my wife had the smoked cheese tart, served warm, with warm new potatoes and salad, the walnuts in the salad being a nice touch. There isn't really a lot to say about a cheese tart, you either like them or you don't, my wife's was very nice and very filling - a fail to finish on her part but a success as a dish. Food 1 - wife Nil for that round. We finished off the food with Praline profiteroles which I decided to try after finding out that the Fenwick actually has a dedicated pastry chef. I wasn't disappointed, light, delicate choux pastry, and big for profiteroles, topped with thick chocolate and a honeycomb crumb, caramel sauce to mop. Light cream filling, just right to finish with.Despite being "so full" after the main, my wife still managed to devour the lemon curd and gingernut cheesecake. Beautiful combination, well presented (as were all courses) and luxuriously combined flavours, a definite winner for my wife. For drinks, between us we had the Grolsch lager, a prosecco and a glass of what can be considered the house red, a Bobal called Red Boar. This was better than I remembered it (granted it has been a while). Don't overlook it as the "cheapest red on the wine list". There's a reason they have carried it over into the new company. If you Google it you'll see how many awards it won.Thank you Fenwick, we will be back, and good luck as we all adapt to coming out of a covid state - so very pleased to see your new partnership meaning the re-opening of truly mourned closures due to the pandemic.

I came tonight with my partner and parents. One word, unbelievable. The food was amazing and the service was impeccable. To start we had cheese fritters, haddock goujons, king prawns and scallops, it all tasted so fresh and was definitely there to make a statement. For mains we had 2 burgers (the size was massive, I couldn’t even finish it and my partner had to finish it off) fish pie and the goosnargh chicken, all the plates were empty by the end of it which says it all, my partner said the chicken was so clean and full of flavour and my dads fish pie was full of fish and not stingy like some places! Desserts were a must even though we were full, they were all polished off. Connor and Jason served us attentively and we will be back thats for sure.

the while you wait platter was terrible for the price, some cold bread and dips and a couple small sausages. this unfortunately was just the start.the mussels were full of grit, I understand this is a hazard of eating mussels. however each one was almost inedible with the amount of grit in it. clearly had not been rinsed/ soaked properly, just laziness really. the crab starter was disappointing.the service was poor, not ideal having to order drinks multiple times to try and get any. to summarise, none of our party will be back the food was very poor for the price.

First time eaten here in a couple of years and won’t return.Could not let the restaurant know at time as was eating with friends and did not wish to cause a situation. The evening was busy so that was good for them and there were plenty of staff on duty who were competent however after asking several times for the same item does ask questions are they really that attentitive.I can only give the option of the food I had which was quite poor.A fish cake starter was more like a potato cake as there was no identifiable fish in it, although served with a spicy kick to it it la led taste. What constitutes a fish cake and how much potato to fish? In this instance no fish!I can judge how good a restaurant can be by how good a burger is, on his occasion the steak burger appealed to me.Sadly this was no nice homemade steak burger but a bought in hamburger. It contained a bit of lettuce and a slice of tomato along with the cheese and bun but so limp and unappetising.Served Luke warm as the rest of the meals were probably being cooked and sat on the hot plate before being constructed Luke warm.Lack of any mayonnaise or relish on the dry bun, no gherkin or any kind of home made slaw on the side. The chips were poor thin chips out of a packet rather than nice home made triple cooked chips. This meal was not cheap so an expectation the food would be good sadly missed the expectations.May be they are good at other dishes but if can get the most popular burger right I leave it to other diners to make their own opinion.

A factual honest review from my point. I’ve stayed here 6 times so far in 2020 whilst travelling down from Scotland. The menu has changed twice in this time and every dish I’ve tried has been lovely. I’ve stayed in the standard room and suites (room8) and both are nice and clean, warm and comfortable. Large roll top bath just what’s needed after a 300 mile driveThe atmosphere in this place is cosy and welcoming. You listen to the customers eating here commenting on the staff especially the lad who was working the evening of the 27th Feb What a character. Ok so once they’d not replaced shower gels when I stayed for two consecutive nights but just bloody ask don’t slag them off on trip-advisor.

3 of our family visited for a late afternoon Sunday dinner. A plus point is, we hadn't booked but we seated straight away. The pub was reasonably busy and it took 10 minutes to be asked for our drink order, another 10 for the drinks to arrive. Whilst on this point, none of us were drinking alcohol and I find it totally outrageous the price the Fenwick charges for soft drinks 1 large Pepsi £2.90, 1 lime and soda £3.15!!! I'd expect a decent pint of beer for that money, not slightly fizzy tap water with a shot of cordial in! We came to order food and were told the roast dinners had sold out along with a couple of other menu items - Disappointing as we had visited on Sunday for a Sunday dinner. My wife ordered the overpriced steak and I ordered the steak burger. The couple behind us had their food delivered, one of the last roast dinners by the looks of it and we heard them complain about the meal within minutes. Tough meat, sloppy vegetables etcOur food arrived about half an hour later. My wife’s steak looked good but my steak burger was the opposite. Tasteless, overcooked, brittle cheap tasting burger that would have been at home on a food stall at Blackpool fairground. All 3 of us ordered Sticky toffee pudding for dessert and when it arrived we were left disappointed again. It was obvious that the food had been quickly and harshly microwaved as the outside of the pudding was tepid and hard whilst the inside was like the molten lava of mount doom. This was the second recent visit and the second recent disappointment. We had visited recently and had pre ordered the 24oz Tomahawk steak for 2 - priced £69.99Again the meal was disappointing - For the price and the billing of "meal for 2" we were both left disappointed in the serving size and found ourselves having to order a dessert just to fill up.After that visit I did a little local research as the price and experience was still stinging a little.I found other local steak houses have much better deals on, for example, one in Lancaster centre (Butcher & Tonic) serves a 35oz Tomahawk for £49.95 – so I know where we will be visiting next! All in all I don't know what has gone wrong with the Fenwick. The staff are all great and always very friendly, it just seems the pub is trying to squeeze profits at every angle with the sacrifice of quality and satisfaction.Unfortunately, I feel I am done with the place now after 2 strikes – shame as it was a firm local favourite until recent times.

Booked for a birthday meal for a Sunday evening. Unfortunately it would have been easier to tell us what they did have left instead of what they had run out of. One steak left, no green vegetables. Finally what we did have was very good but very disappointing choices. Waiting staff were very apologetic and obviously not their fault. Our drinks were however deducted from the bill which was a nice gesture along with some 20% off vouchers. Subsequently I would advise going in the week or on a Saturday if you want to choose from a full menu.

There were a few things we found during our stay but these were niggles (cobweb, cracked loo seat lid) and I am not use to road noise which woke me in the night but all can forgiven as the rest of the stay was really perfect. I would stay here again without a doubt just forfeit the bath for being away from the road.

Decided to have a couple of days away and chose the Fenwick because it had a seafood menu. I had booked the only ground floor room, as I have trouble negotiating stairs. On arrival the room had been booked out to someone else, but it was soon resolved. You have to give notice if you want the main seafood platter, so I booked it for our first night, unfortunately, it was not available, our waiter Jack was very attentive and apologetic, so, we ended up having Barnsley chops and a rib eye steak, both of which were delicious. We had a good night's sleep considering we were on a very busy road. The second night we did have our seafood platter, but I was disappointed with it, as the lobster to me, could have been a frozen supermarket one, not one from Fleetwood docks!!!. There were three waitresses on duty, one of which was the duty manager, the service left a lot to be desired, not at all as good as the service we had had the night before. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss, and I feel it needs to be reviewed. Just one last comment, if all your staff were as professional as Jack, you wouldn't go far wrong.

We regularly visit 2 of the other gastro pubs owned by this small chain. Unfortunately The Fenwick did not live up to expectations and the 16 mile detour on our way down from The Lakes was not worth it. The £10.50 scallops special was frankly a disgrace. I should have sent it back. If the owners had been served this I am sure words would be had. 2 large shells held 3 small scallops that were luke warm at best, and cold within 1 minute. Probably because the serving shells and plates were clap cold. There was hardly any cheese and what there was had ‘set’. The rest of the food was ‘ok’ but really not memorable. The only conciliation was the young chap who served us was very pleasant and efficient, and deserved his 12% tip.

Went here with my family after my graduation ceremony to celebrate. What a treat! The food was delicious and the staff very attentive. We were sat right next to the log fire which added to the experience. Recommend the pita with hummus to start. I got the pheasant for mains, beautifully cooked and presented. Not terribly expensive, but worth the money I'd say!

Spectacularly good food. Excellent beer and wine. Lovely room. When we arrived our room, due to an oversight, hadn’t been prepped. Profuse apologies, a beer in the bar while we waited and an excellent bottle of Prosecco in our room to acknowledge the “dreadful inconvenience” we had suffered ......NOT!! The hospitality was outstanding and comfortingly informal. A perfect Inn.

The Fenwick is now our favourite play to stay when we’re visiting North Lancashire (or journeying further up the M6). The Fenwick is situated only 10 minutes off the motorway and has a car park adjacent to the hotel. All rooms are well equipped and the food is excellent quality and fairly priced. Just a great place to stay.

I stayed for one night, the staff were lovely and the room was great. It was very spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was very good. There is some noise in the evening which is to be expected and from traffic but this wasn’t an issue. I would definitely stay here again.

Stayed here for a night whilst travelling and also ate in the bar. The staff were amazing, from the waiting staff in the evening to the breakfast staff in the morning, all were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was delicious, I had two seafood starters as I could not decide between them, and one was filling enough to be a main course (with the addition of a few home cooked chips!). The food was fresh and I loved the different inventive slant on the dishes. Breakfast was similarly good, with some different options which was refreshing.

This is a lovely pub and I've had a good experience over the years. But if you are going to offer a lunch menu, then it should not be inferior to anything else you offer. The main meals were tasty but the portions were miniscule, and neither myself nor my partner are big eaters. One of the meals was a lunch platter with hummus, for example, and it was served in a finger bowl in which you would have to wash one finger at a time. Is it really a good idea to skimp on things like hummus or olives? Likewise, our other meal was haddock with cheese crumb and spinach, but extremely small. It was very nice but far too small a portion. I don't normally eat a desert but we were still hungry, so we ordered a sticky toffee pudding and a cheese plate. It arrived half an hour later. How long does it take to cook a cheese platter? The pudding was dried out and frankly unpleasant, the cheese were not good and the biscuits were dry. Is it unreasonable to expect some butter with cheese and biscuits? For a nice pub with good food, this was inadequate and disappointing. If you want to economise on your lunch menu, this is not the way to do it.

Returning from a weekend away at a wedding in Barrow in Furness we had planned to eat in Kirkby Lonsdale but were unable to park so headed for our second pick at Burton Lonsdale but they only offered a Pork roast lunch so we travelled on and eventually came across The Fenwick. Never been quite sure of dog friendly restaurants, there were 2 animals in whilst we were there, and one of the waitresses patting and making a particular fuss of one of them before bringing the food to our table was slightly disturbing, however the plates were so hot she carried them in with dishcloths. The Sunday lunch ( Roast Beef Sirloin )was £16-95 and was excellent and was washed down with a splendid pint of real ale.

Once a go to place for quality food and drink, the Fenwick’s demise is both sad and frustrating. The menu hasn’t changed but the food has. Poorly presented, bland, overpriced and underwhelming meals which look little different to the standard pub grub available anywhere for half the price. Chips were awful and they can’t even rustle up a decent cup of coffee. Will avoid in future.

We booked The Fenwick for a 2 night stay mid week. The bedroom was small and in need of a good clean. There were a couple of spiders in residence in the corner of the bedroom and the bathroom with several webs hanging from the ceiling. This was not what we expected at all based on the reviews we had read before booking. The duvet cover had a stain on it. There was also no internet in the room and one of the staff said it would be looked into. However, we had no internet in the room for our entire stay. The pub's reference material said that internet was available in all the guest rooms.

We dined here last week, great that it is dog friendly. We got a friendly welcome and seated in the bar. Good drinks selection and extensive menu, so much so it was quite hard to make a decision. We ordered the duck and the fish and chips, my theory being as a seafood pub the fish and chips should be pretty spectacular. My partners duck was good, if a little overcooked. My actual fish was fine however the batter was so thick that it was soggy on the inside and rock hard on the outside so I had to remove it and leave it. The chips could have also done with a little longer in the fryer as they were a bit hard and pale. So as a meal the two main ingredients were a bit of a let down. Two other things were a bit of a niggle as well, as we were sat by the bar we could hear staff talking openly about other guests which doesn't make you feel particularly comfortable. Secondly, when it came to pay the bill, we paid in cash and were intending to leave a tip separately when the change came back. The change never came back, the waiter obviously made the decision that the change was for him and that was that. Poor decision as he would have received a better tip and we wouldn't have left with a bit of a sour taste.

I really don’t want to share this because we often miss out getting a table but….. For the last few years, the Silverdale hotel is the stand out place for food. I swear the pies in this place are incredible. I’m not sure Michelin do sars for pies but if they did, these guys would have 5 stars. Probably never get a table now🤷🏼♂️

I've eaten at The Herbarium lots of times now and every meal I've had has been delicious. I love their matcha tea too. I'm not fully vegan, but try to eat a plant-based diet 4-5 days a week, and you certainly don't feel you're sacrificing anything in terms of taste, variety or quality at The Herb. A calming atmosphere and lovely staff too. Well done to the whole team (including the Chefs who probably don't get a shout out often enough) 👏
