I have spent the last week staying in The Music Room, holiday let, above the cafe. It is a Landmark Trust property, and the baroque plasterwork in the bedroom is exceptional, and took over 6000 hours to create / repair. This beautiful building sleeps two people, has a fully equipped kitchen, a good sized bathroom, a sitting area, and a roof terrace with views across the city. You are within a short walk to the shops, restaurants, castle, cathedral, everywhere.

Lovely little place to grab a coffee. In this secluded alleyway in historic Lancaster we stopped for coffee and to enjoy the sun. We were served quickly by very friendly staff. The food looked great but sadly we didn’t get a chance to stay long. However the coffee was lovely. There are some strong options for coffee in Lancaster as well. The location makes this a really good escape from the Main Street. Highly recommend.

Have been to this cafe before and always enjoyed the visit. Not this time. The female member of staff was extremely rude. I appreciate that the cafe had to close but to be told "You have 8 minutes" was a disgrace. I had took friends there who were visiting from the Channel Islands. I won't ever be going back.

Small cafe run by Atkinson’s Tea/Coffee merchants on Lancaster. By far the smallest location in the town but it’s nicely hidden location on a small courtyard creates a relaxing place to enjoy an excellent quality coffee. Fast and friendly service with seating available both inside and outside. Reasonable prices but be aware payment is card only. No cash accepted.

My first time visiting The Music Room, although I have lived in Lancaster for over 10 years, I'm ashamed to say I had no idea it existed. A lovely little cafe! We had a delicious Viennese swirl biscuit, half dipped in chocolate, to my surprise it turned out to be two Viennese swirls with a generous dollop of frosting in between, I was a bit taken back by it and I thought it would be too sickly - it thankfully was not sweet at all. My partner and I shared this, it was lovely, and perfect with the Americano I ordered. The coffee it self was unfortunately quite sharp and bitter, but I will be going back to try it again and I hope to have a much better experience with the coffe.

Attended in the afternoon and sat outside. My partner went in twice to request a menu to then be told on the second occasion there was 'no food left' with no alternative. No staff member even approached our table to ask if we wanted a drink or to place an order and we were simply ignored despite the outdoor seating area being quiet and manageable (even though we were told to take a seat). We both got up and left to go to somewhere else. Was not a positive experience unfortunately despite this looking like such a lovely place.

Made our first visit to the music room today for a coffee, as our usual spots were busy and had waits. There was an abundance of cakes on offer and sandwiches. We opted for coffees, £2.80 for a cappuccino is sort of the average price in Lancaster. The coffee was served fairly quickly and smelt great, it was smooth, but that after taste. It was surprisingly very strong and bitter in taste. It was still pleasant but not a scratch on our go to places. Chairs weren't super stable, but the nice quiet hidden location was a bonus.

Lovely little cafe in one of the small pedestrian squares that can often be found in the back alleys of Lancaster. Fairly small downstairs area supplemented by a balcony area upstairs. There were also tables and chairs outside which would be great on a more clement day than the one on which we visited! A good choice of teas and coffees from which to choose (we found the Americano very flavoursome). They do some cakes but the range was somewhat limited (and we saw none that caught our fancy. In fairness, it was after 3:00pm when we visited so a wider selection may have been available earlier. I understand sandwiches are also available. Overall, a nice little find and we will visit again for a coffee on another trip to the City.

A good selection of high quality teas and coffees makes this one of the best places in Lancaster for a morning or afternoon break. There’s a small selection of good cakes and pastries to accompany a drink. The range of sandwiches is limited and I’ve never yet seen one without cheese. As I don’t eat cheese this is not good when I’m looking for something savoury rather than something sweet. It’s not much use for lactose-intolerant people or vegans - or even people like me who simply don’t like cheese.

Really cute little cafe with mezzanine level and great coffee. Would definitely recommend for a hot drink. They have a wide range of teas (though no English breakfast!). The lady behind the desk was very friendly and brings the drinks to the tables. However when we visited they were a little short staffed and also would like to see better food offering (they had run out of a few sandwiches and they were not refrigerated). If full you could try The Hall over the road which I think is owned by the same people?

We visited for a quick lunch. There were four or five different varieties of sandwich. The one we chose was delicious but I think any of the other choices would have been too. We both had a wonderful dessert as well. Service was friendly and quick. The only thing we found monotonous was the music, which in any case was drowned out by a fan running. As it was raining, we sat inside. However, if you are able to sit outside that would be a better atmosphere.
