The staff were great but it did appear they were short of resource. Tables were left uncleared for a while and the same person serving drinks was also trying to sort tables. Food was standard pub grub. One of our party had fish and chips, it was very big and they did say that it was very good. I had a burger, and I'd give it 6 out of 10. Some of our party also visited the zoo and said it was well worth the visit. I would add the pub is also worth a visit.

We visited this pub after a lovely visit to the zoo, which is basically attached to the pub behind it. I visited with my partner and our 16 month old. When we entered it became apparent as to how small it was inside, there must of been enough tables and chairs to fit probably fifty people at most and also there was a small amount of seating outside. There was not much atmosphere and the decor and inside was just very much bland and boring with a couple of pictures dotted around on the walls of the animals inside the zoo. The food was nice and came out really quick. The chips are air fried clearly and i won’t complain about that as air fried chips are better than fried in general. Overall i probably wouldn’t go back here, only came as we were visited the zoo for lunch but wouldn’t book again.

The Zoo is fantastic at Fenn Bell . We were at a loss for brunch as a local cafe was closed . So we travelled to the Fenn Bell in the pouring rain because we knew the zoo and its reputation . .we are bo h blue badge holders and after parking in the car park in the farthest part available we walked past the out holes to the r pub. It was gloomy inside the chairs were low and comfortable .we ordered all day breakfast . When it arrived via the outside the bread was stale would have been better toasted . The baked beans were tasteless the meal was warm and was cooked down by the often opened door . I asked for sauces and wa told “ round the corner “ . A very large tomato ketchup and a Larg egg Mayonaisf were there very awkward to squeeze on to a meal in the nest room ! So she egg nice was poor they need to provide sachets of sauces at tgrr ed table and need earth in the bar and in their customer service . So disappointing. We will not go there again on this presentation

Came here for a birthday lunch and to visit the little zoo attached. The food was horrendous. Roast beef from the festive menu, 5 slices of carrots, the hardest roast potatoes and one of the slices of beef was pure gristle and inedible. If we had ordered starters we were told they had to come out with mains. The cod was over done and the burger was cold in the middle. The coffees came out cold which we sent back. The cutlery was useless, knife didn’t cut and looked like it was about 50 years old. No fish fingers. This was 12 noon on weekday. The cranberry juice was like water. The desserts of choc brownie and profiteroles we had were lovely. It has gone down hill since the last time we came. Staff were friendly. Would not recommend eating here but the zoo is great for a couple of hours

Disappointed to find no Sunday dinner on the menu. On arriving told them we had a booking, had to ask where our table was as they didn’t tell us. No one came over to take our order, ordered at the bar. Food ok. Had to move our plates into another table as no one came over to us. No offer of dessert or coffee. Don’t go there if you’re having a family celebration as the staff are extremely rude and clearly don’t want you to have a good time

Lunch in the pub before a visit to the zoo. The food was delicious, hot, well presented and plenty of it. Puddings were the usual type eg. Brownies, Eton mess etc. but, as with the mains, delicious. The service was very good. After we’d eaten we had a walk round the Zoo. The tickets have just been reduced. The kids loved the play area and were delighted to see the animals. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending The Fenn Bell Inn

Please get a new chef. Had breakfast there today. Ordered two mushroom omelette. After 15 minutes, we were informed that one had broken during plating. arrived. One burnt and both broken. And these were the best! The tea arrived transport cafe style with milk already added and the bag floating about. We wanted decaf but not something they specialise in. I don't know what was spread on the toast but it didn't melt. I know all about complaining at the time but that seemed futile as we'd been given the best two out of three. Can't wait for chef to eventually produce proper ones. Shame as it would have been nice have somewhere local to go for breakfast.

An attractive pub next to a charming little zoo with an excellent range of small mammals and birds. It also has a buggy cart ride around the zoo included in the £5 entry fee. Lunch was good value for money. Fish and chips were carefully cooked with peas and a salad garnish, the children’s portions were generous and the ploughman’s lunch was huge - so much that a very helpful ‘doggy bag’ was needed and would provide another generous meal. Puds were the usual ice creams but the chocolate brownie which one child ordered was much enjoyed. The service was a little slow but the young chef seemed to be managing the kitchen by himself and made a very good job of it. It’s a Shepherd Neame pub but the only sad note was that barrel beer was not on offer. A lovely day’s outing for families and well worth a visit.

Please ignore the review for the zoo area. Just take a picnic, and you'll have a great afternoon. The food and restaurant area, on the other hand, is an absolute joke. You'll wait an hour for an extremley over priced thin slice of bread which they call a sandwich. Close to £9 for two thin slices of bread, over cooked bacon and cheese that resembled Brie, but I doubt it was. When staff were challenged, it was handled as expected. Poorly. Sarcastic guy who clearly had no care for his job and couldn't wait to sit outside and have his cigarette break. Which was in full view as we were trying to eat the rubbish that had been served.

I cannot begin to express how disappointed I am. The last time that I came to The Fenn Bell, we had a wonderful time. Food was lovely- albeit, took a long time to come, but as we were a big group, we were prepared for it. This time, however, was a very different experience and I am shocked. Please disregard the zoo, as that is a wonderful place. Unfortunately, the pub and some of its staff have let things down. I have spent a long time going back through reviews and whilst there are only a few complaints, they are mainly about food, staff and their attitudes. Today, is probably the worst customer service I have ever experienced. We paid nearly £35 for a halloumi wrap, a child's fish fingers and chips, 3 cans of drink and a fruit shoot, and 2 bacon and brie sandwiches on sour dough bread. The wrap arrived. Looked lovely. The child's meal, fish fingers were fried and over cooked resulting in the fish having shrunk and being very dry and too crunchy for a 3 year old to eat. The sweetcorn was cheap and nasty and didn't taste like it had been cooked. The fries looked good! Then the sandwiches. Well, I'm not convinced it was sour dough, it had 3 very thin strips of streaky undercooked, pale, floppy bacon and a very small amount of brie in the middle of the sandwich, so when it was cut, the brie could be seen. Upon opening the sandwich, there was nothing around the edges of the bread- not even butter or anything! Would have just been dry bread. The 'salad garnish' was literally a few salad lettuce leaves and the nachos were verging on stale. My mother, having been in the catering trade for more than 45 years, has worked in many places and is still working in a local pub now, asked to speak to the manager, she was told that if she wanted to speak to him then she would have to go to the bar area. So she did. She was told that this sandwich was regulation, how they've done it for the last 6 years and that no one else has ever complained about the food. He then called my mother an Old bag. That's when I took over. I will not have my mother- or anyone- called an old bag (he claims he didnt say that). He claimed to have been in the hospitality trade all his working life. I said that surely if that were the case then his customer relations attitude needed more training. I suggested that the customer has every right to complain, and apparently, as the manager, he has the right to disagree with me and that at £8.50 per sandwich, I'll get what I paid for. He was quite frankly an extremely condescending, insulting, rude and a very poor excuse for a person in a managerial position. As we went to leave, I saw staff smoking cigarettes inbetween the buildings that were visible to customers- also not a good advertisement. At this point, I was exasperated and was rude back to him. I could not believe or understand how anyone in the position he holds could speak to paying customers like this. As far as he was concerned, I was in the wrong for complaining and he was right. I am sure that had Andy been there, this situation would never have happened. Frank did tell me where Andy was and whilst I (as an ex-nurse) completely understand, I would presume that Andy believes his beloved zoo and pub is in good hands- he has fought for many years to make it what it is today, and looking at my complaint and other reviews, it would suggest otherwise. My recommendation, go, enjoy the zoo, eat elsewhere! I have since had a response from the owner. He said that he would have dealt with us in the same way. Extremely disappointing and not what I would expect from a local business. Nevermind. Lesson learnt!

Visited on a wet and windy day and we received a warm welcome by the guy behind the bar. We'd not booked and I think were lucky to get a table as it was very busy. There was quite a choice on the menu, nothing posh but good honest pub food. The portions were huge on both my husbands ploughmans and my burger. The chips were very nice with a slightly spicy coating. There is a small zoo attached which we didn't visit but the following day we by chance had a conversation with someone who had been there and was really impressed with it.

Yesterday, after visiting the Fenn Bell Zoo, I took my grandchildren, daughter and husband to the Restaurant for Christmas Lunch. There were seven of us. The table where we were seated was just opposite the door and people were coming and going all the time. We got very cold sitting at the table and could not take our coats off which was not very confortable. The waitresses were very good and very attentive. Our starter arrived and was very nice. Things were looking good even if we were cold. Then, then mains arrived. My husband and I had the sea bass. It had so much sauce on it that it was completely covered. We had lots of new potatoes that were not cooked enough and were too hard to eat. My daughter and two of my grandchildren had the roast beef. That came with roast potatoes, yorkshire pud with a ball of hard stuffing in it and gravy. The roast potatoes were so over cooked / fried that they could not be cut. My other two grandchildren had the turkey with the same roast potatoes ect., There were 3 bowls of veg which included peas, carrots, parsnips and brussels sprouts. The veg, as with the hard boiled potatoes and roasties were not seasoned. The dinners were large portions and if they had been cooked nicely, we could have eaten half. But nearly everything had to be sent back not eaten. Then dessert. I think they were mostly eaten or at least half. They were big portions and I asked for cream and got a huge jug when a little jug would have been enough. I had the apple crumble which I couldn't eat as the crumble was just a thick layer of dust. I don't think butter had been added to the flour and it is the butter that makes the crumble. Also the portion was double the amount one could eat. The Zoo was excellent but the food disappointing. Maybe trying to prepare Christmas Lunch was too much for this very busy pub. It is a lovely pub and Zoo with very nice staff. I will visit the Zoo again in the summer but willl think hard about having lunch there.

Had to go outside and pick a table and take a chance no-one else sat there before I could get back to it. When I went back in to order - all of 15 seconds, the bloke had decided to clear tables away in the restaurant so I was then served by someone else. Food was ok. We had a family meal here one evening ( had never been here before) and have to say we found the food, service, staff and prices all very good and would definatley return. They happily accomodated my mother in laws small portion request and my vegan request.we had a long chat with the owner about the zoo he is very committed to everything. We hope this pub continues to thrive

We came here for father's day wasn't the best of services. The waitress spilt coke over one of our guests and just laughed it off. When our food came out another waitress spilt hot gravey all down my 5 year old daughter, she did apologise but in no rush to deal with the spillage she didn't even to bother to check if it had caused serious harm. We didn't get table checked until 15 minutes into the meal at which point I was getting angry as we needed more gravey, and sauces. And was still waiting for a drink that we ordered before the food came out. The food was very basic and cold. The zoo is definitely worth a visit

We had lunch here then looked at the animals. The food is average and the barmaid who served us did not smile once, nor said any pleases or thank yous. It’s not hard to be polite is it? Especially when you are part of a business trying to attract the public. If you’re not happy in the job then do something else. It also wasn’t particularly clean and dirty tables were not cleared away very quickly. Animal sanctuary was good but quite small - admire what they’re doing here.

We booked for 6 adults and 7 children for a Sunday lunch. The establishment could do with refurbishing and cleaning our table was so sticky. The waitress was a nice girl but had no idea how to sell the menu to customers. The roast was like school dinners in the 70's and luke warm. The service was very poor we had to ask the waitress to clear our table then she only cleared half of it. We declined the childrens desserts due to poor service. The manager was called over she was offended to start with that we had a complaint after son in law explained he wasnt blaming her personally, she came to an agreement and apologised for the service we recieved.

We decide to visit Fenn Bell Inn Zoo over the Sunday. The Zoo itself is nice, quite small in fact but for such a little price it is worth it. Unfortunately we didn't have a chance to eat anything although that was our plan (we end up ordering take-away). We finish our ZOO part around 15:00 and the we went to the Pub to order some drinks and food. When I ask for food I was told that food is not served anymore and only thing we can have is Pork Baguette! Nothing else. So I end up picking up the drinks only. 30 minutes later I went to get some more drinks, and surprise surprise peoples were having Sunday Roast. I have confronted same lady behind the bar and this time she said that they all had a booking. So first of all I was lied by member of staff that the food is not being served any more and secondly I was misinformed by the 'Opening Times' note on entrance to the pub. It says, FOOD SERVED, Sunday, Roast Dinner 12:00-17:30. Shame.

We were here for lunch, I don’t know if evenings are any better. The quality of the food is extremely low grade And we immediately regretted eating here. Shabby dinning room in disrepair. Staff were pleasant enough and the zoo appeared to be a big success.

Went today with family had booked a table for lunch for 3.30 . When we arrived it was cold and windy 5 adults and 1 child of 2yrs old who we didn’t have to pay for . We all loved seeing the animals some were tucked away in their warm houses at first but then they started to come out to see us . Their enclosures were big and clean ( apart from the pigs who were enjoying the mud ) decking made it easy walking around . We would have spent longer walking around but was so cold so went into the pub early for lunch which luckily wasn’t a problem all the staff were friendly. The roasts and lamb shoulder were so tasty with plenty of fresh vegetables! We will definitely be returning in a warmer day and supporting the conservation

Went there on Sunday and had a fab meal there, steak and ale pie w/ chips. The food was great, the service was great, we had a lovely girl working hard for us, and the family atmosphere was also a nice change from the loud, goby, bustle that is everywhere. Location was also nice and though we didn't do the zoo, yes the zoo, we will have to do it next time.

We came for lunch on the 1st September. We sat in the outside area. Obviously you cannot help the wasps but the family on the table opposite us was absolutely over reacting. Swearing and throwing food at the wasps. They had young children but the parents were screaming at their children too. A lady on another table asked if they had a problem with how they were over reacting and how they were constantly moaning at the children. We said yes so the lady went in and complained and came back and sat with us as she was on her own. She was told by someone at the bar someone would go and speak to them. No one did. Also you can't tell who is staff.. no uniform or identification. Our table had people's food and glasses on so we went inside and asked someone to come and clear the table. We was told "ask a member of staff outside" how can we? No uniform or identification to know who actually works here! When our food came out that's when they cleared the previous people's food etc. Food was ok. A bit burnt but still nice-ish. Zoo was good and my little girl enjoyed that the most

Visited as a group of 6 with two young children. Booked in advance, were shown to our table on arrival. Staff are lovely and friendly however it did take a long time for our food order to be taken, and a very long wait (45 mins +) for the food to come out. Unfortunately when it came out part of the meal was stone cold, though staff apologised and replaced it but it tainted the experience further.

The zoo is great, it’s quite small (to be expected) but there’s still plenty of animals to see. My favourites are the Racoons and the Racoon Dog. The enclosures are changing and expanding all the time as more money is generated for the projects. Small £2 entry fee I believe is excellent value. There is a burger stand selling chips and the like in the zoo bit.

This is a great place for children and adults alike. This pub has a small restaurant that serves excellent food. Outside in the grounds is a Zoo, which is always getting more animals. Cost to go in the Zoo is £3 adults and £2 for children. There is a miniature railway that goes goes around the Zoo and costs £4. There is also a burger stall in the Zoo. This is a very welcoming pub and does get very busy when the children are off school, well worth a visit.

Visiting family in Hoo from Wales my husband cannot go a Sunday without a roast dinner! It was blistering hot on Sunday 5th August and my brother suggested lunch at their local the Fenn Bell Inn. We’ve been before - 2016 I think was the last time and there were hardly any animals and they were not open to the public at this point but the food was spot on.

We have eaten here twice now and both times the staff have all been friendly & welcoming but also both times the food has been poor. The burgers tasted like they were the cheapest of the cheap, bad quality, thin, tasteless & full of gristle. The chips tasted like they are cheap & frozen. Lasagne was bland. The children’s meals were ok. Such a shame as it’s a great idea and a nice setting to visit with children, sadly though I wouldn’t eat here again.

Visited here today with my daughter and a friend with her son and after looking on the website we decided to take a picnic as it would be easier with the children. There wasnt nothing on the website to say you couldnt take a picnic and it wasnt till we sat down and was eating that we was told by a member of staff that they dont allow picnics and she told us we had to stop eating and pack it away and that we have to buy our food from the bar. We explained that it was our 1st time visiting and there was noting on the website telling us this and she said there was also signs round the park which was wrong as we didnt see one sign. We carried on eating as i was not going to tell me three year old she couldnt have her lunch. The farm it self is lovely and really good for kids.
