The George Vaults in Medway

Took parents for lunch, food was the same quality as whetherspoons and double the price. Incredibly greasy. Door staff terrible in the evening. Refused to assist when crimes are taking place. Saw another complain that her drink had been spiked. Door staff advised her to go to a different pub if she didn’t like it there.

The food was so good here and was our favorite thing to do once a month, but they have changed the food and the quality of food has dropped not very nice sorry to say. The bread board was a mix of different breads now its a brown and white baguette.

Terrible. Take forever to cook one burger, and I wanted just the beef and the bun without the cheese. And Guess what they served me a cheeseburger! Made them make it again and those naughty people scraped off the cheese. Terrible

Had a brilliant time drinking cocktails (for my husbands 50th 🫣) and chatting with the very friendly staff, especially Ryan and Oli who suggested the most amazing cocktails. I have a very happy, and little bit tipsy 50 year old birthday boy. Thank you so much for your hospitality and warm welcome.

Went to celebrate my 50th for cocktails at lunch time. The staff were amazing and very welcoming. They recommended the perfect cocktail choices. Special thanks Ryan & Ollie for making my birthday a day to remember. Everyone should go and try the Mango Chilli Margarita!! Thank you guys.

Great for cocktails. There is a lovely outdoor seating area and bar at the back, which would be great in the summer.

Yes they have Sunday roast available in April (unlike other places in Rochester…). I am very glad they did, mixed roast covers all the bases and prepared excellent. As a bonus they had live entertainment and he was as good as the restaurant…excellent.

A long wait for cold poor-quality food, missing part of the order, then spoken to with arrogant disregard by the manager when we voiced our unhappiness. Walked out, won't be back.

Coming from America where server's are a lot different. Ours spilled a good portion of my margarita and acted like nothing happened. Food was delicious. I had the Philly cheese steak and chips.

Not been before but really enjoyed. Inside was so lovely plus a great atmosphere. Good choice of food including vegan. Asked about vegan desserts and lots available that weren't in the menu? Staff friendly. Will go again 🍹

SPAT ON BY BOUNCER. Was told that my doc martin boots were trainers. Bouncers have a massive power trip problem, was let in by managers as I was part of a booking. Management and staff were great, but would never go back because of the bouncers. Not to mention I was spat on in the face by a bouncer unprovoked.

Staff are great, but was SPAT ON BY A BOUNCER. Don’t get me wrong the drinks and food are amazing. But don’t be suprised if your doctor marten boots are labeled as “trainers” by the bouncers before management let you in if you’re lucky enough to be part of a booking. Try not to get spat on on the way out. Wear a body camera on arrival to show bouncer attitudes to police. 🤮

Haven't been to George Vaults in a long time, was kindly escorted to a lovely seat in the marquis where our lovely server brought us the two for twelve pounds cocktails, Ryan, our server provided 10/10 service, the drinks were delightful and hit the spot and Ryan was very attentive and ensured we were well looked after, can't wait to go back for amazing cocktails and service.

Ryan thoroughly looked after us! Absolute king =] Shannon was amazing behind the bar as well! Was exactly what we needed after a busy term!

Hugely disappointed. Day before our visit I e mailed them to ask for something special for my partner….IGNORED! We arrived and were put on a table with 6-8 incredibly noisy and selfish boorish males standing very close to our table, making deafening conversation, as I was about to ask for us to be moved, about 5 minutes after we arrived they were moved to their table. We ordered our Sunday roasts, both asked for lamb. When the food arrived, my lamb had a significant serving of cartilage and a bit of fat. Some of the meat was nicely cooked, mixed in with some grey dry meat. The potatoes and carrots were very nice, the other vegetables were a mix of very dark very bitter leaves and some “normal” and ok cabbage. It was the very first time I have ever experienced a Yorkshire that was so crisp it was crumbly! We looked at the dessert menu and were a bit uninspired we were weighing up our decision when we heard the tie less man who appeared to be in charge talking loudly near our table, we could her every word he was saying, he was talking to a female about his sinus problems and gave a very detailed, blow by blow description of his technique for sinus washouts, in details that we REALLY didn’t need to hear during our meal. The one event alone encouraged us to go elsewhere for dessert. Not a pleasant nor satisfying experience.

Excellent quality ingredients and amazing service. Breakfast in Rochester doesn’t get much better than this! Don’t miss out!!

I’m a regular customer and today I popped in with my dad and brother to celebrate my belated mother on Mother’s Day. I got to the front of house (gentleman) to say all tables were booked which is fine but I said we can get a drink at the bar as we had a meal in 20mins for him to say “does your restaurant not have bar?” Extremely rude and dismissive. Think before to speak. Customer service is key as this day can be delicate for some. I felt my money wasn’t good enough if I hadn’t booked a meal.

Went in at random, as had never been to Rochester before. It was a wet and cold (mother's) sunday and I really fancied a roast. Arrived at a busy time, with no booking. They found me a table and the roast was top-notch. So much so, I ordered more potatoes, they were superb. I have vegan thoughts, but they go with roast beef and gravy that good!

Lovely busy wine bar with plenty of beer choices. Nice atmosphere clean and plush.

I didn't eat there this time so cannot rate that today but it's always very good there

After hearing so many good reviews about the food at The George Vaults, I can only think, as the 6 of us were shown to our table in the marquee/garden area, that they had escorted us to a different venue. £17 for chicken scewer, with 3 very small pieces of 'chicken' was shocking! The service was good but after checking if we could continue ordering drinks and stay at the table (by now, 4 more friends had joined us, so we were spending plenty of money) we were informed we could. Within 20 minutes we were informed we needed to vacate. We didn't ask for the manager but he spoke to us, chewing gum, and he had an attitude. No customer service from him. Be interesting to know what manager training he's had 😂 but he's definitely not doing The George Vaults any favours. AVOID this place if you like good quality food!

Shocking service and attitude from Manager. 6 of us for dinner then 3 more joined for cocktails/drinks. Was told we had last table then after spending a lot of money asked to vacate the table! Manager said he wasn’t bothered about a bad review ‘I don’t care’ were he’s words.. undercooked chicken ‘all of 1 skewer’. prawns served with alternative bread, shocking attitudes. Won’t be visiting, recommending to anyone. Shame obviously been taken over as previous visit 2 years ago was splendid

I recently visited with friends for a special birthday. We were seated in the garden/tent area. Most of the party ordered the chicken skewer. Very expensive for three pieces of chicken on a skewer. Chips were £3 extra. In all we just have spent well over £400. At around 7pm we were told that we needed to leave as the table was booked out, even though we had asked if it was booked out 20mins before. We were very happy sat there spending money and felt much aggrieved to be thrown out. The manager was extremely rude to our party, not sure how he has remained in that position. We won’t be returning!

Three course hen do meal. Beautiful surroundings, however… Soup was under seasoned, the ravioli main was chewy and undercooked and the filling was tasteless. Others agreed. I had the veggie options but there’s no reason to skimp on taste just because you’re not having meat. Very lazy cooking and disappointing for the price. There’s so many easy ways to make a simple dish interesting. Not at the Vaults sadly.

I dont really enjoy going out for sunday lunch having been disappointed a few times but omg i cant recommend this place high enough absolutely gorgeous and plenty on the plate for the price

Nice atmosphere and very friendly attentive staff,nice cosy place , comfortable seats, I wasn't that keen on my meal but that's probably a personal thing ,if I had ordered something different then I may of liked it more ,had a good experience overall.

If I could leave a 0 I would There seems to be A LOT of similar reviews on here about the security so seriously think twice about booking here. I attended an engagement party last night and I must say the security are the worst I've ever seen. They didn't leave us alone. I went out the front to make a call and was then told I cannot come back in because I had trainers on even though they were shoes and I had been inside all night Even when we got there at 645 we were told we couldn't go downstairs to the event because it wasn't ready yet even though we were the ones setting up and someone's mum was already down there setting up! Seriously need to get rid of them they were absolutely awful. I did like the venue and was actively looking for a venue for my engagement party and thought when we got there I would use it but because of the ignorant selfish busy body security I will definitely never be coming here again

Disgusting management. How they speak to people who have paid a lot of money to have an event here is absolutely disgusting. The bouncers unnecessarily manhandle customers after they’ve complained to management because management are incapable of taking criticism. Won’t be going back to this place. Absolute joke.

Had a fantastic night for New Year's eve but cannot understand how you can make 1 rule for 1 person and a different rule for everyone else! Rang up before arrival and told no trainers to are allowed and it had to be smart casual so I wore some smart but uncomfortable shoes and when we arrived there, there were people wearing trainers so I can't understand how you can tell people it's a rule and then people abide by it but your still letting people break the rules and wear trainers anyway! It's an absolute joke!!! Wish I'd had worn my trainers now because they are the only shoes that are comfortable for me and I like to wear and now I have extremely sore feet! Not happy! 😞😞😞

Walked in, waited 10 minutes for a table (not overly busy) and was barely acknowledged - thought we were about to be seen to but staff member starting having a conversation with a group of people who walked in after us. Quills across the road it is!

Had smart black trainers on and was rejected. Won't be returning.

Popped in here for a quick pint while I waited for a cab. Quick service and quiet about 19:00 on a Wednesday.

Avoid at all costs, I came in with a disabled person and they turned us away. We went to the Christmas market and just wanted light bites and a warm drink.

Unwelcoming staff blonde woman who seats you very aggressive her customers service skills 0 staff all moody waited 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive. They seem more friendly to posh clientele.

Eat here regularly when we are away working! Love this place, never been disappointed. Always a great atmosphere and the staff are lovely.

Visited when in Rochester for the Castle Christmas Markets - the perfect location to warm up and have some food! The chips are delicious, and I would recommend the Dragons kiss cocktail! Staff were super friendly also!

Reasonable price drinks staff was fantastic and great atmosphere.

Particularly, we wanted to say thank you to one of the managers Gaye at George Vaults. She was friendly and attentive to our large group of 8, although the venue was extremely busy. She never came across stressed and ensured we had the table that we wanted when it became available. Thank you, Gaye! We will be back when we next visit Rochester.

Very funky and cool decor, very busy. Didn't feel overly welcomed, even though we were only stopping for a quick drink whilst waiting for some of our party to change in their hotels before we head off to another venue. We were immediately told there was no room for us, we couldn't go in the garden. We were allowed to order at the bar when we explained the situation. But when going to use the rest room a staff member intercepted us and quickly told us once again there was no room in the garden so don't go out there. I would have liked to have see the rest of the bar and garden, even if it was just to lay eyes on it. But we drank our drinks and left as soon as we had finished. I have still given a 4 star review as I understand Saturday nights will be busy. But if you wish to enjoy this night out I assume they do reservations? Or at least I hope they do.

I visited with a friend for lunch and we were disappointed. I booked a table and on arrival was shown where our table was. There didn't seem to be any service so I went to the bar to order a drink where I was told they would take our order at our table. Service was slow and we had to keep going up to the bar or catching a member of staff as they walked past or we wouldn't have had any drinks. 4 cocktails each and they charged over £11 service. 2 cocktails were only 3/4 of the glass full. The staff all seemed preoccupied with "friends" they knew who were in the bar. The bar man was what appeared to be flirting with a young women at a table near us. It was all very awkward and uncomfortable. It's a nice bar but we won't be giving back.

We popped in for a couple of birthday cocktails after going out for dinner. Lovely place to relax and chat with friends and great selection of cocktails.

Appalling behaviour at the door by the 2 guys. Let the girls in but boys apparently couldn't go as they had trainers on. They literally didn't even want to have a bloody conversation while many people kept coming out the door WITH TRAINERS ON! CLEARLY ITS ABOUT MORE THAN THE SHOES. then 2 other guys came and i pointed out he had trainers..one of the security guy told him to "GO TAKE A WALK AND COME BACK" as our group was still there!!!!!!.WANT TO HAVE A GOOD NIGHT? DONT COME HERE!

All I can say is just wow, what a hidden gem A real cross between a lively high street bar and an up town classy restaurant Love the idea of a beer garden with outside serving stations and function venue to hire out Food was out of this world, smelt great, tasted amazing and the service was on point Honestly, for my first visit I could not have been more impressed An absolute must go to location and somewhere I will be returning to

The staff were friendly & kept checking on us. I really don’t get the hype of the outside area (cold / damp), however this was my own fault for not booking so this was all that was available. Food was nice a bit cold & I think for the price i would have expected slightly bigger portions (Sunday roast). I would go again but wouldn’t rush!

Venue itself could use a little TLC, however we sat in the Garden which was a good size, and the musician maybe for a relaxed atmosphere. Sunday Roast Beef was delicious, well cooked and flavour packed. BE AWARE: our waitress failed to check and missed one main dish so I had to wait sometime whilst they served other guests their food. This also seemed to amuse the waitress whilst standing at the bar checking her tablet with a colleague. Still charged for service… shameful!

Came here on a Saturday night as part of a group of 15. We were told no trainers allowed however the doorman let 2 of the group off and allowed them in. Another three joined and were refused entry at the door for trainers , three females even though just before that another male was allowed in wearing trainers. The rules are not consistent and it’s if the face fits …… I saw a female at the bar in converse . One door staff was very rude and shut the door in my face when I was trying to make a valid point that the males in our group in trainers were allowed in and the females were not ….. made no sense

Absolutely superb. We were given a very warm welcome and were shown to a table outside in the garden area which was delightful. We were looked after very courteously indeed and look forward to our next visit when visiting Rochester. We are so pleased we chose The George Vaults having walked the length of the High Street.

Service was prompt but not rushed. Staff were helpful and cheerful. We visited the vaults briefly as there was a wedding party expected. Food was tasty and menu had a reasonable choice.

Pleasant enough place with singer in garden on a Sunday afternoon. Not great Guinness pouring skills but were happy to top up.

I would NEVER recommend the George Vaults to ANYONE. I attended a wedding in august and it was despicable. The whole place was a shambles, poor bride and groom had their day ruined by the vaults!! The buffet came out, and half of it was missing! As promised to the bride and groom, half of the section of the garden would be sectioned off for the party however they decided to back track on the day and claim it was only up until 6pm to which a friend also enquired about and got told the same thing that the garden would come in with the wedding package for the whole evening. They are misleading and mis-selling their venue to customers which is out of order. They are also now throwing accusations around about family members within the immediate family of the bride and groom, accusing people of being a drug dealer which has caused issues within the family!! They’re also accusing other members of the party being rowdy and aggressive however it was the staff who were being rowdy and aggressive with the bride and groom. They also did not let two of the closest friends to the bride and groom eat the buffet food outside (which is what the bride and groom have paid for) whereas their were other people eating chicken wings outside!! The two closest friends got kicked out for absolute no reason at all and this resulted in the whole party being thrown out after sometime. George Vaults you are disgraceful, and you ruined what was meant to be the best day for the bride and groom. The Bride and Groom have heard no more from the vaults despite putting across their issues and concerns, they’ve been completely blanked. Vaults I hope you’re happy, but hey every penny matters right?

Unwelcoming staff and not one of them managed a smile the whole time. Some clientele were more friendly. Drink ok but can't really go wrong from a bottle. At least glass was clean. Had drink and left going elsewhere.

Buzzing atmosphere. First time there but was with people who have been and they say it’s always been pretty good there so happy all round!

In the evening there is violence, bad crowds, often there are fights, there is usually an ambulance or police attending the bar whenever I have been there. Not very good music and too loud, food is not bad. Would not recommend.

Surprised there was a service charge when it wasn't mentioned anywhere and no one told us. Booked a table for dinner to eat food at 4:45 we came early and was told our table was not ready yet for when we did get to sit down to order food and were told that we had to hurry because the kitchen was closing at 5 When on the website you can book for food past this time. The halloumi skewer not skewers are not worth 17.50. Food and drinks were overpriced for what we got. The only thing good about our experience was the waitress who was serving us.

On a warm summer Bank Holiday Sunday eve, we had a few drinks and sat out in the garden area. DJ playing tunes, and everyone was having a lovely time. What more could you want?

This place has gone drastically downhill. From being a regular to recommending people not to go. Service has been getting worse and the staff just don’t care. Not to mention the food, it used to be one of the best places in Rochester but now it’s one of the worst. My last experience on Saturday, I got food poisoning! Go elsewhere.

It's a lovely place to go and have a drink never eaten in here, the atmosphere is great its a great place to come and socialise.

My wife and I stayed in Rochester for 5 days, eating out every night. This restaurant was our final night's meal - and we wished we had found it before. The food and service was far and away so much better than the other four places and we were very impressed by the menu and the service. Great ambiance - soft music, respectful clientele and great decor. We could thoroughly recommend this restaurant

What a lovely time we had yesterday at your Restaurant.We sat in the outside area which is very well designed.The food was excellent and we sampled the Cocktails. Our Waiter Ryan was so helpful spending the time to recommend different Cocktails and advising us on certain snacks we could enjoy with the Cocktails. Very funny,friendly and made the Dining experience great.We were never rushed being three Women we couldn't decide what to have and was quite happy to leave us to making our decisions! Had a wonderful Sunday Roast with drinks and desserts, with the family, in the stunning Vaults. Great ambience and exceptional service from Sam. Highly recommend and will definitely be back soon.

Attended a wedding in the vault , there was nothing sectioned off in the garden when we arrived so no where to sit , we asked the manager if we could have a table reserved as it was raining and he was the rudest person I have ever come across , he said no tables can be reserved after 6pm for the wedding party and why would he want to lose money , I will never go back to George vaults again due to the manager which is a shame as I've always liked it there before dealing with him .

Great pub with a good atmosphere on a Saturday afternoon, especially the large garden out back. The service however is poor, they do table service but never come around despite the many staff. Booking a table is recommended.

Excellent Sunday roast in a lovely atmosphere! My experience at the George Vaults is something that I want to suggest to those who decide to spend a day in this lovely town not far from London. I ordered the Sunday roast Tris to taste all types of roasts available with the option of dairy-free! The dish was well-presented and delicious!

The food and serving was exceptional, kids menu was wonderful unique, the garden is absolutely gorgeous and it had an amazing, homy, atmosphere. Would 100% recommend to go and enjoy yourself, your friends and family together. This place deserves a much higher rating.

Never had an issue with George vaults before last night Door men were pretty grumpy on entry...not abnormal but not overly inviting. As a group of young girls there a member of management snatched personal belongings off a member of the group and refused to give it back. Very threatening and disrespectful behaviour. Following this he would not look at our group and acted as if we were dirt on his shoe. When asked who we can complain to and how...they were clueless. Disgusting customer service.

Went here in the evening for a drink and a dance. Busy but not uncomfortably busy. All ages there which was nice to see. Not my scene at all but the garden area was lovely. Loads of nice seats, heaters above you when it's cold, personal DJ and table service. Very friendly staff..would visit it in the day to see more of what it has to offer.

Well what a difference the night you choose to go to this place makes. On a Saturday night the door staff become a cunch of bunts. I was keen to repeat my experience of a previous visit and was excited to bring some new friends to have a few drinks. Well what a let down! We didn't get past the door man. I was told you can't come in wearing them! What you mean the same shoes I was wearing in here last week? Yes mate! Oh and he can't wearing those and she can't wearing them pointing to my friends leather sandals. Obviously our faces didn't fit the image of George Vaults Saturday night crowd. Oh well I shan't be ever spending another penny in this place again!

Last year I had lovely chicken kebab and thought I'd get that again. It was lovely hanging served with chips and nice bread. Yesterday it arrived laying on peices of thin bread which made the bread soggy. No chips. It was very disappointing. Adding photo from last year and one from yesterday to show the disappointing difference.

I didn't eat, so I couldn't comment about that, and they got my drinks order wrong, and after waiting over 30 minutes, the missing drink still didn't arrive. Generally, it's really good here, though, and the DJ was great

Popped in for breakfast on a Friday morning. Staff are very friendly and helpful also adapted the breakfast menu for me - a big thank you!!! Everything was beautifully cooked and coffee was great. Overall lovely atmosphere and pleasant.
