Very disappointing dining experience. The service was slow. We waited an hour before our starter was served. The cheese soufflé tasted pleasant enough but could have had the tiniest of garnish at least. It looked plain and bland on the white plate. The meat and potatoes (pale beige) were lukewarm, the vegetables undercooked and the gravy had congealed skin on the top. The waiting staff seemed to be desperate to go home and never once approached us to ask how the meal was. We decided to forego dessert and left hungry. For an historic establishment so beautiful from the outside and an inevitable magnet for tourists, it was an embarassing example of traditional British food. The 2 stars were for the Yorkshire pudding and horseradish sauce. Never again.

Had a lovely stay at this Pub/Hotel. The Suite was fabulous, very spacious & well thought out. Very quirky & full of character. The breakfast was lovely, very attentive staff & nothing too much trouble. There was a slight issue with the evening meal for 3 of us however the two staff who dealt with it (Grace and sorry didnt get the chaps name) were second to none. Completely rectified the situation so it was absolutely resolved without ruining our evening. Well done them!!! Would definitely stay again and loved Ludlow.

So disappointing - we were visiting for the day and saw this beautiful building with a tea room - after following the instructions to the entrance, we were met with a beige Starbucks. We were expecting an oldy-worldy tea room fitting the image of the stunning building

We intended to have just a cuppa, but the millionaire cheesecake stood out on the counter. It was rather good. A coffee and tea were good, but a tea strainer would have been nice. We really appreciated, in a medieval building having proper British crockery. Royal Kent, made in Staffordshire, with Allen Nelson made in England. Also Paragon, and a Meakin jug. There was something of tradition about the place , which was appreciated.

This wonderful tea room is housed in one of the most iconic buildings in England, which is 400 years old this year. We had a real Devonshire tea, with real, yellow clotted cream on our scones with jam. It was a real experience to be here!

Food was pleasant enough...but several issues including... Although the eight of us were the only people in the tea rooms, it took an absolute age (about half an hour) to provide drinks (four of which were cold drinks), five sandwiches, two cakes, and a scone. Of those, the cheese and red onion marmalade sandwich came without red onion marmalade, which was then provided separately and I had to put into the sandwich myself...the last sandwich to arrive,a cheddar and brie sandwich, came as bacon and brie, which then had to be taken back and replaced with the correct one, meaning my partner was then eating her lunch after everyone else had finished. I dread to think what the service is like when it's busy!

We had booked for afternoon tea which the website led us to believe would be in The Feathers Tea Room. Having now read the reviews for the tea room I am very glad that on arrival we were re-directed next door to the actual hotel. We had a characterful small room to ourselves looking onto the street with mellow jazz in the background. The food was very good and I especially appreciated that 3 tiers of gluten-free sandwiches, scones & cakes was provided (with 24 hours notice) and it didn't feel like the lesser option at all. Open-ended refills of tea were provided. The food took a while to arrive but maybe this ensured it was freshly made. The service was courteous. It was an enjoyable experience and nice way to celebrate a birthday. If booking afternoon tea I would advise checking you will be in the main hotel not the tea rooms judging by previous comments.

Unfortunately myself and my friend will not be returning to this cafe. Nothing to do with the coffee, but everything to do with the chap who served us. He explained that due to a law, passed before Covid, we have to pay the correct money in cash as he wasn't allowed to give change "because of a new law" which he repeated. I have never heard such rubbish and don't appreciate being knowingly lied too.

In the middle of a very good week in Ludlow, with some excellent meals out reviewed elsewhere, our visit to the Feathers was sadly a real low. The menu is on the pricey side and we knew that, so were looking forward to a special experience. Instead the two waitresses serving our area looked like they were having a thoroughly miserable time and did not manage a smile throughout. When the starters arrived my wife's "Camembert bites" turned out to be a bite singular, that wasn't warmed enough through to have melted. My soup was nice but the bread was not accompanied by any butter. When I asked for some I was given two plastic pots of Flora margarine. My main course beetroot and goats cheese risotto followed. No more than four dessert spoonfulls of rice in the middle of an enormous plate, with no discernable goats cheese flavour and neither the toasted walnuts or chives promised in the menu. At this point we did complain. I did not want an alternative dish and, to be fair, the manager offered to deduct the cost of the two of the dishes and our wine from the bill. The explanation we were given was that the variety chefs the hotel used interpreted the menu in different ways. Certainly the disparity between the quality of both food and service, and the prices the hotel charges was enormous. In a town with some good pubs and restaurants I would strongly recommend going elsewhere.

I have wrote a review on here more than once only to be advised it’s the wrong business. Why they keep getting my reviews removed displays once again another example of the shambles image you are led to believe. The food is a disgrace and I have no idea what’s happened everybody has said the same. The coffee i was served is beyond words when I use to love coming in. The staff have changed and are mainly children whom have been replaced and can barely speak up. Don’t order the soup I have never tasted anything so awful. It’s such a shame and no we won’t be back. This is the third time I’ve written a review no doubt it will be removed. The toilets had no toilet paper and were filthy.

We enjoyed a somewhat pricey but outstandingly good dinner here whilst staying at the Feathers Hotel. The service was attentive yet unobtrusive, the ambience relaxed yet pleasantly lively and the food was superb, apparently using good quality ingredients and very skilfully cooked and presented. My only - very small - niggle would be that providing butter in prepacked individual portions does not do Justine to the otherwise upscale nature of the restaurant. A table-sized butter dish would be more appropriate.

On a recent visit to Ludlow we popped into the Feathers Hotel tearoom hoping to get a quick coffee and maybe some cake. There were just 2 tables occupied but we were told by a rather grumpy member of staff that they were fully booked except for one table at the back. We got the impression that they really didn’t want to serve us. However we decided to stay in the hope of getting a coffee ( cake selection was non- existent) …….we waited and waited but no one came to take our order. We decided to relocate to the hotel bar where we were eventually served with luke warm coffee. Dreadful! Certainly won’t be going here again.

First time visiting the feathers hotel and we were very impressed. We were gifted a voucher for Christmas for their afternoon tea and it didn’t disappoint. Plenty of sandwiches to enjoy, lovely quiche and a good selection of cakes, scones and other treats. We took our toddler with us and the chef kindly made up a ham sandwich for her free of charge. Staff service was also very good, we will definitely return if we are in the area again.

A poor experience. Slow service, asked for our order before we had been given a menu , was served black coffee when I asked for coffee with hot milk. My wife's order of hot food took ages to arrive and was not as described on the menu. Really disappointing as on a previous visit we had excellent service and a delicious afternoon tea. Not likely to return in the future after this poor experience.

Because of Covid we had to walk back to order, pay in advance, walk back to collect with no trays (because of Covid - excuse). The sandwiches which offered 'side salad' actually came with mixed lettuce, most of which was in a state of rotting (pictures attached). On reporting to the gentleman on the till, he abruptly answered it was delivered fresh today, no apology or offer of refund. Will not be returning here ever and advise all others to use the more suitable tea rooms offering better service, cleaner food, at more affordable prices, as we paid £17.00 for 2 sandwiches a coffee and a pop in a can.Avoid, avoid, avoid!!

We stayed overnight at the hotel and decided to eat there as we couldn't get a booking at the restaurant we wanted. I have to say I had misgivings about eating a Valentine's Day special menu, or indeed any set menu as I like to have plenty of choice. On to the food - our starters were French onion soup for him, goats cheese and beetroot for me.Himself's soup was lovely - not too caramelized, very rich deep flavours in the stock and tasty gruyere croutons on top. Mine was delicious, the goats cheese had been breadcrumbed and fried and served with beetroot which has been variously, picked, pureed, crisped. Very interesting tastes and textures, beautifully presented. Then the mains: I had the beef fillet which was one of the best I've ever eaten - the meat was superb quality and cooked to perfection. It usually came with a celeriac puree, one of the few foods I can't digest, when I mentioned this, it was substituted with a generous bowl of mixed vegetables. His sea bass was very fine - very fresh, on a bed of creamed leeks, with saffron potatoes. The accompanying creamy sauce with cockles and clams was delicious. Puddings were a light and lovely lemon cream brulee, and decadent warm chocolate pudding with salt toffee ice cream. The presentation and service were excellent throughout.A lovely meal all round, excellent ingredients, cooked with flair and imagination. Also to be praised for sourcing and buying most of their food from small local suppliers.

In its favour the menu was good - you could go for a soup or sandwich or something larger or swisher - plus you could have booze if you wanted unlike a tea rooms . I got the impression that we all thought it was a solid player but not outstanding - there are afterall a plethora of enticing tea rooms in Ludlow. Although the bar area is not unattractive it is naturally pretty dark and I thought slightly chilly.
