The best fish & chips in the area, and we have tried most of the options around Bath. The portions are on the larger size, but the fish always has a crispy but not too thick batter and the fish is not overcooked. The chips are always good and there are a number of options on the large menu. You can eat in or take away.

The best grilled fish in Bath! Grilled sea bass, baby potatoes and salad with extra virgin olive oil. I don't eat fish and chips but my family have safely said, the best in town. Don't miss stopping off at Robbie's Plaice! And friendly service to top it all. Above all, consistent. Never a bad meal over the years. Excellent value for money.

We ate the freshly cooked fish and chips in the adjoining car park but we did nor enjoy the meal. The chips were soggy and inedible, the fish only ok-ish and no salt and vinegar although requested Not cheap - we will not return

With out fear one of the best Fully English breakfast in and arounf Bath, when ever we are in the UK myself and the lads always head down to this place, their full monty Breakfast is Brillant and cheap compared to whats being asked for in Bath itsself, Danny the owners son is always there and Happy to have a chat and serve, always good and well worth a visit for Breakfast.

4 of us went to Robbie's a couple of weeks ago, 1 coeliac, 2 vegan + coeliac and one normal eater. All catered for, nothing was too much trouble. I was told the fish was devine, although I didn't have any as I don't eat fish. Really welcoming staff.

Ordered a takeaway over the phone. Good response and advised ready in 15 mins.Collected takeaway -pleasant staff at counter. Paid and returned to my accommodation. That is as good as it gets.The plaice was old, smelt excruciatingly bad and inedible. I could only manage 5%.Chips were a mixture of soggy and uncooked chips - again couldn't eat. Mushy Peas were passable.I would advise not indulging n a takeaway - maybe the restaurant is better. As I was staying on the other side of Bath I couldn't be bothered to return and complain otherwise would have asked for my money back. I've come to the conclusion from talking to friends and relatives that there aren't any decent fish and chip shops in Bath anymore. Oh for the days of fishy Evans, top of Avondale Road and Leakeys...

Llamé un lunes por la noche y fue servido rápidamente. Estábamos perdidos en nuestra reciente visita a Bath ya que los restaurantes locales estaban completamente llenos, así que, por sugerencia de nuestro anfitrión, tuvimos una cena para llevar de bacalao y patatas fritas. La calidad del pescado era excelente y las patatas fritas estaban cocinadas a la perfección y muy sabrosas. Always fantastic fresh fish and chips, have used this restaurant many times and have never been disappointed. The service is exelent , very quick and efficient, have totally got the order, pay, collect social distancing thing sorted.

Hi there I just wanted to say thanks for the best food I have had in a long time from a takeaway restaurant. The staff was very busy but there made sure as a family we was looked after,also I meant a lovely young lady who was new called Andrea she was full of smiles and a good for the company. We ordered over the phone at half 6, ordering 2 cod and chips and another bag of chips, and we was told that it would be a 45 minute wait and to arrive at 7:15, but reassured that phone orders would be prioritised.I arrived at 7:15 and due to social distancing measures, I was told to wait out in the car park and my food would be brought to me shortly.I ended up waiting for 45 minutes while walk in orders were quickly served before me. Not only did they forget my order, several other customers were also waiting just as long as me. I had to prompt the man bringing out the orders twice as they had clearly forgotten me again and weren’t prioritising my order as I was promised and when I spoke the them several times they didn’t apologise at all for keeping waiting.I understand that this is a difficult time and the business has had to adapt to adhere to social distancing measures and I’ll admit that there measures were well done. However these measures have been in place for a few weeks now and these issues should of been ironed out.It was a shame as I have heard good things about this place and now my first visit will always be tainted by the memory of this wait.

Robbie, Anna and Danny have rearranged the restaurant furniture, to create a one-way socially distanced route to the counter. Place your order from a distance, pay by contactless, and then wait at the back of the premises, and your order will be brought to you. Robbie's Plaice is open!Despite last night's announcement, that restaurants are to close immediately, for Covid 19, Robbie's is open for take-away business.I spoke to Danny, one of the managers, and he said that next week (from 23rd March), they will be delivering food, for a minimum order of £15.This is great news, and we all need to do our bit to support local businesses. We were greeted by Danny, and he talked us through today's special, which were Piri Piri Chicken, and Grilled Salmon; both served with chips and salad. Our third dish was cod and chips with gravy.We ordered two Americanos and a cup of tea. Danny listened carefully to our orders, and made some adjustments. The food arrived probably ten minutes, or so later. The chicken was excellent, and exceeded my expectations; the salmon was also well received. The cod and chips is always good.We paid at the end, and the bill was £37. We were given complimentary Elizabeth Shaw mints, for later.Well done, Dan, you're a credit to the business.Chris, Susan and Rose.

Have been here a few times for lunch - excellent every time. By far the best chippy in Bath, and realistically priced.

For many years this eatery has been called the ‘Fat Fryer’ but it has undergone a substantial make-over. It is now quite a smart café with a good alternative menu to the standard fish & chips menu that used to be offered. The rather dowdy and small food order counter in the dining area has gone and replaced by a proper counter. Gone too is the awful neon sign in the window, with its trailing wires to the nearest electrical socket. The seating is less crowded and the ambience, music and décor is vastly improved. The takeaway food bar is still there but that has been smartened-up too.All these improvements have not been reflected in the pricing, which remains very good value. The quality too is excellent: I had the battered haddock and chips which was excellent. Everything was piping hot, the batter on the fish was light, the fish was fresh, nice ‘n juicy and flaked well under the weight of my knife. The chips? Well not too many which was good for me, but again the quality was there, they were freshly cooked and substantial with just the right degree of firmness.The table was adorned with all the usual accompaniments. The meal was served with a small pot of tartare sauce, this wasn’t to my liking: I like this particular sauce to be acidic and this wasn’t. I was able to help myself to water from one of the two water dispensers on the serving counter, one offered plain iced water, and the other (which I chose) was water with several quarters of fresh lemon.My meal took just over 10 minutes to arrive, but that is fine as I prefer to wait for freshly cooked food, and especially so with fish. This was an excellent lunch in very pleasant surroundings.

The breakfast brunch is an amazing price and the food is outstanding. Highly recommended. Take away or eat in.

Consistently good, plump, fresh fish, light crisp batter and ridiculously large portions of chips (1 large is too much for 3 of us). I'm sorry to see reviewers marking the place down because they got a parking fine in the car park behind, which has nothing to do with Robbie's. There's a small free car park a stone's throw across the road, and some on street parking outside. Otherwise, get your 20p at the ready and don't blame the chippy for the parking issues. TripAdvisor should really take those unfair reviews down...

Our 2nd visit and couldn't wait to eat here again.The family that run this restaurant certainly know how to make happy customers.Son Danny had instant rappore and we enjoyed some friendly banter..he really cares about his food.Tried the Passionfruit desert...lovely creamy consistancy and delicate flavour and the "strawberry" icecream went very well with the chocolate sponge.The "special" was Fish Pie...full of flavour and big juicey prawns.Absolutely love the big Portuguese rolls and finished off with lovely hot coffee and a mint choc.What more could you ask for in a fish and Chip supper OAP £8.50.

My wife and I dined there yesterday afternoon. Yes, it was our first visit but it will not be our last !!!

We were staying local fo a few days and our host recommended Robbies, well he was right it is an excellent fish and chip shop restaurant and also licensed. With all the travelling we've done this year I can honestly say this was an excellent place to eat, fish, chips, mushy peas and a pint, great stuff, good luck guys and dony lose focus.

Had take out and it’s seriously the best fish around! Classic chip shop chips too....a lovely treat!

Even though you may pay £50 + for meals still need to pay to park, not worth going to have to pay a parking charge.

Used to regularly buy from Fat Friar so thought we would try refurbished Robbies Plaice. Service and takeaway perfectly acceptable but not exceptional. However will not be returning to support local shops at Batheaston having received £60 parking fine to park 13 minutes (completely missed sign advising 20p parking charge at car park entrance)

visited Robbies Plaice yesturday and had a great meal I had the Seniors meal Cod Chips mushy Peas bread/butter and tea best value i have had,my wife had Rock Salmon Chips and Salad again first class, also the the Restaurant refurbished to a very high standard and the staff very friendly and helpful a place to visit if you are ever in the area you will not be disappointed.

This was a return visit after a busy day out. We knew it had recently been refurbished and how nice and clean it was. The staff were most attentive and the choices on the menu were amazing. Too much to choose from really. We both settled for the seniors fish meal and it could not be faulted. Well done. We wont wait so long before our next visit. Keep up the good work.

Really love this fantastic fish and chip shop. We have ordered fish and chips a number of times and the quality and quantity are always excellent. The portions are huge so be warned but the cod is some of the tastiest I have tried. We eat at Rockfish (Mitch Tonks) in Dartmouth regularly and it easily rivals that.

I have been visiting this fish and chip shop regularly for many years as a loyal customer. Up until recently it was known as The Fat Frier who consistently served wonderful fish and chips, so much so that I would recommend them to friends and family as being the best fish and chips you could buy. Quite an accolade from someone who has eaten fish and chips in numerous locations throughout Britain.

I arrived exhausted after a long drive on two wheels. Friendly and welcoming without being overbearing. They were quite happy for me to charge my phone and the food was spot on. The best deep fried king prawns I've had in years and the fish and chips was delightful. Clean,tidy and so friendly and polite the food cost what I would expect from an eat in fish and chip shop, and well worth it.... only complaint is it is 200 miles away from my house.

The restaurant is much nicer after a renovation but the food is still the same standard stuff. For take away this or cheap and cheerful this is alright. If you are looking for a cafe for brunch, breakfast or lunch better to try Gather.

Als voorgerecht hadden wij de " Onionrings " en de " Spicy chickenbites " genomen. Deze waren heel lekker en een aangename portie. Mainmenu waren de voortreffelijke " Fish & chips " Ook de witte huiswijn was van goede kwaliteit. Dit alles werd geserveerd door een aangenaam vriendelijk personeelslid . Sober maar mooi en kraaknet interieur. Aanrader !!!

First time visit to this establishment, but certainly not the last. Had an excellent seniors lunch special, a choice of fish, chips, choice of peas, tea or coffee and a nice ciabatta roll. Everything was cooked to perfection. Amazingly they had Lady Grey tea as a choice ! This is one of the few restaurants we have ever been to that have had this as a choice. Will certainly be back to eat again, hopefully without the noisy couple at the next table.

Brilliant fish and chip shop , great quality food , such a shame when I went in tonight , they only do ‘take away pensioners fish and chips ‘ before 5pm now , that’s an hour to early for the couple I buy for each week , so ended up having to buy , enormous piece of fish each , would have had enough chips to feed 4 ( that’s a small portion ) ,so asked for just a few chips in each box .... although paid same price , shame as I expect a lot got thrown away as too big a portion now , before it was perfect and great to be able to buy a smaller portion ...also cost quite a lot more ...

The Fat Friar Chip Shop has just been refurbished into a Cafe and Chip Shop. And now trades under the name of Robbie's Plaice. The food here is all cooked from Fresh and the Service is EXCELLENT. They go to great lengths to look after the elderly. Fish Chips Mushy peas bread and butter withe a Cup of tea £8.50 for a Old age Pensioner.

This is just a great place when you just want a big helping of the real thing! The only other place I ever rated was the Sea Shell in Lisson Grove, London, years ago. Staff are lovely and it's good value.

At the top of our week-long stay in Batheaston, we visited The Fat Friar on the recommendation of our driver. We were very happy with our freshly breaded fish and chunky chips. Service was very good and we will definitely return.

Todos vamos en familia a este restaurante de pescado y papas fritas, normalmente somos un mínimo de 12, la comida siempre está caliente, es sabrosa y muy abundante. Iremos en noviembre para otra visita de cumpleaños, el personal es muy amable y servicial y siempre nos reímos con ellos.

While staying in Bath for a function and being a bit early to book in to our hotel we along with friends stopped at this Chip shop we were pleasantly surprised to discover you could eat in which due to the poor weather was an added bonus, The Food was exceptional and great value the staff very helpful and when we went to order Drinks delighted to find it had a selection including Wine, bottled Lager and Cider all in all a terrific experience and obviously the locals think so as although we were seated immediately and eating in a couple of minutes it was busy we will be back excellent value

This place is a little gem . Polite ,friendly helpful staff made us feel welcome. Portion size was fantastic. A nice selection of wines and beers available to accompany the meal. Tasty traditional British fish and chips

We each bought a regular size lamb kebab which included salad. We considered getting the large size and thank heavens we didn’t! How huge was the regular kebab! It was the size of a dinner plate folded in half and literally stuffed full of meat and salad. There was no way we could eat it all in one sitting! We saw other meals going out as well and the battered cod was huge and looked amazing! Very friendly and super efficient staff and a great menu to dine in or take away.

After walking 26 miles of the Cotswold Way I needed a fast food shop that would feed us all and The Fat Friar did exactly that. I pre ordered with Anna,specified a time and the meals were hot and ready for us. Some of the group hadn’t pre ordered but Anna was still able to cater for them. The portions of chips were huge and the fish tasty. I had many of my walkers say the same. Well done all the staff. It was a very busy Saturday night but you exceeded expectations. Thank you.

Recommended by a friend, I was glad it was, as this Pub/Restaurant provides excellent meals. Sunday Roast, or Fresh Tasty Burgers! Plus of course, the Bi-Fold Doors look out on a stunning vista. You need to Book a table, as this is a very popular eatery!

This is our closest take away, about 4 miles to get to it but it’s worth the trip. It has a huge menu and caters for any size appetite. The children enjoy the box meals. They get a drink and a lollipop. As OAPs the smaller size portions of fish and chips are just right especially as they are in a box with mushy peas. The food is always piping hot and freshly prepared.

Called on speck and ordered 2 x pensioners meals to eat in - £7.10 each. Haddock (or cod) chips, peas, slice of bread and spread (menu says buttered roll) and tea or coffee.

Don't live in Bath but come down to this chippy very often, the pensioners fish chip mushy peas bread and butter and hot drink is a bargain as well as other foods on the menu boards the chips are what I would call proper chips not the frozen type, always come away from here full up. They also do gluten free battered fish on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Its Changed used to take our Order from the table as we had sat down now we need to go to the Till Place and Pay which is very odd for a Restaurant its like after the War Quinn at a Food Hall with tray Dozens of us or a Canteen so we would like to sit at a table and let them take our order then bring our Meal with the Bill afterwards still I hope Danny is back next time he is the Star.

Estuvimos alojados en un hotel de la carretera que no pudimos registrarnos en pero pensamos que habría un desayuno tardío. Fuimos por la calle y tropezamos con la grasa Fray. Fue una agradable sorpresa, un papeo y adecuada en precio razonable. Lo recomendaría!

Traditional Fish and chip shop with a sit down restaurant as well as takeaway. Usefully open all day and sells all the usual fish and chip shop fare plus in the restaurant the option of a cocked breakfast. With generous potions all the food is good value. Everything seems clean and well run so I firmly recommend this chip shop.

The best fish and chips! Food is so fresh and not greasy. They have a great menu with lots of choice. Even have gluten free menu on a Monday and Tuesday.

So the outside is pretty modest looking, and the Fat Friar is best for takeouts (takeaway). We bought the fish and chips, burgers, and chicken kebabs and thought it was pretty good for the price. The chips are great! This was quite close to the cottage that we were renting for vacation, so it was perfect for a quick meal to take back home.

Visited recently and had fabulous cod and chips at a reasonable price. Highly recommended. Also do kebabs which looked very tasty too.

We wanted to use the restaurant facility, however this was unclear as to where to wait for a table or indeed if you just sat down at whichever one you wanted. We decided we should go the main counter which was busy with take out orders, after a little wait the staff told us we had to go to the smaller counter around the corner. We waited again for someone to arrive. By the time they did we already knew what we wanted. So we ordered, little to our knowledge at this point the server went home. After waiting 45mins (with a child)..... (For fish and chips) my husband decided to enquirer about the whereabouts of our meals. The server was most apologetic and within 5mins our dinner was on the table. (I'll add at this point I would have given them a 1 if not for this man.) The food was overcooked, which was a disappointments after the enormous buildup. All in all a pretty poor experience, although I am reliably informed by the locals and by the amount of people getting take out, they do a pretty decent trade.

I used to love a spring roll and chips but the fat in the air is so intense.I don't know how the staff deal with it since I felt I couldn't breath from the fat in the air.

This is a great local takeaway, beautiful fish & chips! The tray specials are also really good value. Always fresh with great chips. Staff here are lovely, always cheerful with a smile, haven't eaten in yet but so convenient as a takeaway.

went and checked this place out on the recommendation of a builder doing some work for me, I had the Big Breakfast and as much as i tried i couldn't finish it, quality of the food was great and the service was awesome as well, had to go back again 7 days later and its just as good. Brilliant, oh and theres parking around the back as well. all in all 10 out of 10
