What a fab evening we all had on Friday. We took over the top floor, Finn was fantastic at looking after us, keeping the 2 x £10 cocktails going and generally making sure we were all well fed. Thank you!! We were very well fed, and the portions are huge 🤣! Great space to party in if you're a large group 😊

Fantastic meal and so much to choose from on the menu. Excellent service from the staff. Had the best Steak & Ale pie I’ve ever tasted. Will certainly be going back again soon.

A large party visited last night for a dear colleagues retirement party, we were seated in the upstairs private dining area. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff or Manager, and the 2 cocktails for a tenner were a big hit. Special thanks to young Finn who looked after us all evening. We will be back.

Always been a fan of The Fat Boar, but on this particular occassion we had the BEST time! We came for the Prosecco, Pornstar and Platter afternoon. We had the AMAZING Finn (double N!) serving us all avo/evening and he was just the best! Big personality and an absolute credit to the Boar. He helped in making our time enjoyable, a giggle a minute. Makes a huge difference when you have someone with great customer interaction. The platter was delicious. Cocktails were lush. We did have a bad batch of pornstars, mentioned it to the manager and he remade us a fresh batch. All round WONDERFUL afternoon and fantastic service!! Well done Team Boar 🐗 👏

Fillet steaks were very chewy, took them home for the dog, pepper sauce tasteless. Sticky table ! Still waiting for dessert. Will not be rushing back .

Food was lovely, had a sharing platter and cocktails with friends. Finn was excellent today. He was friendly and knew about all of the cocktails and offers. Jak also sorted us a table once our booking was over. Will visit again!

Wow! Visited for a Pre-theatre dinner, after a 7hour drive from Cornwall. Warm and cheerful greeting, main menu and the pre theatre menu to choose from. What incredible value, so tasty, and the portion sizes did not disappoint . Service was friendly and speedy too. Would highly highly recommend.

This review comes very much in two halves. First off, the food was excellent. The dishes were well thought out, well presented and very tasty. They were also served hot. No complaints at all on the food. On that basis alone we would eat here again. However….. We were told during the call to book a table, that they were quite busy but would be able to give us a table in the ‘conservatory’. Having never been there before, we thought that sounded like it would be an ok experience. Sadly the opposite was the case. The ‘conservatory’ was a dark room out of the back of the pub that had a sliding glass wall to one side. Not too bad on the face of it, but this room had a large tv in it, showing at the time, a rugby match. It also had a sliding door to the beer garden, and during our visit on a cool, rainy night this was constantly being left open by the passing throng which endlessly passed by. Most people had their coats on. The roof was like that of a caravan, with the sound of the rain being extremely loud. Just to complement this, there was at the time a group of men watching the rugby, and their language was to say the least coarse. We are not prudes by any stretch but we heard the expression ‘fu*king retard’ about 20 times during the meal. As an extra bonus as we were in the ‘conservatory’, our order wasn’t taken at the table, we had to, unlike other diners, go to the bar to order the food. The management need to make a decision here. Either they are running a restaurant type pub, or they are running a sports bar. The prices were restaurant standard. They should not be using this ‘conservatory’ for dining, as the experience is not the same as the rest of the pub, but the prices are. So to sum up, our experience was that of eating quality food, in the cold, listening to swearing of a high standard, with service being an afterthought.

We have just come home from a fantastic meal! We booked a table for 7 people at 2:00pm on 01/04/24. Customer service was outstanding we unfortunately were running late and called asking to move the table to 2:30pm they were VERY accommodating as I know it’s not easy with such a large table. Once we arrived we were greeted with a warm welcome. They advised us on the menu and drinks and the best deals! The food came and NOT ONE person was disappointed! Very generous portions good quality ingredients and amazing service. As a family we were over the moon! What a great bank holiday treat! We are already in talks about when we can get together and go back! Thank you to all the staff and chefs for amazing service! You guys have really come back stronger than ever hats off to you!

My wife and I enjoyed dinner there on a Thursday night. What a fantastic experience, plenty of choices of drinks and food. The staff were pleasant and the venue was very good. The food was excellent and plenty of it. Considering the amount we ordered between us, the final bill was real value for money. We will return in the near future Thanks to all who made our evening

A late visit on a dreary February Sunday, nothing as too much. Great atmosphere, food and staff were attentive - one of the best Sunday Dinners I’ve had in while!

Turned up as a walk in for a table of 3, was told there was nothing available for another 4 hours so went elsewhere, but checked online after we’d left and we could book a table for 25 mins time. I would understand if it was busy inside but it wasn’t. Slightly confusing but took our custom elsewhere and had a lovely meal.

We had a table booked for 10 people at 6.30 , tables were dirty, had to ask waitress to clean , not enough forks on table ,she said would do look for some ,she brought some 20 mins later , drinks order wasn't taken untill 7pm and then missed out x2 people ,had to go back and ask waiter to come back which he did. Food order was taken at 7.05 ,great At 8.10 still no food or update from staff .we asked for the deposit back which reserved the table . It's seems lacks a experienced leader front of house . Perhaps should revert to just been a pub We won't be returning

A disappointing day where we were forgotten about by staff, food wasn't great and tables left uncleared for hours so we cleared our own. We are still waiting for the cocktail menu we were promised even now, so again we went looking for ourselves. Cocktails were lovely, although missing refresher sweets as they didn't have any! The food was OK, just not what we expected, and didn't meet the standards that it used to be. Our group was here for 5 hours, and between us, we spent over £350 and watched the disorganised chaos go on around us. Don't think we will be rushing back, which is a shame as we have loved this place over the years.

Went in today for lunch and the service, atmosphere, food were all amazing. Staff were attentive, friendly and professional. Super impressed that our server didn’t need to write our orders down and got them all correct when brought out to us. Hair straighteners in the ladies and any products that you could need too was an additional nice touch. I’d highly recommend. ❤️

Wetherspoons quality food at 3x the price. Service was okay, but the non-existent “refurb” doesn’t seem to have changed anything. Such a shame as this used to be the best around. Burgers were not handmade, microwaved bacon and a dry curry with frozen (definitely not fresh) veg. The cocktails are decent but the food has gone so bad over the years.

We have been to the fat boar a number of times over the years, I think its fair to say 2023 wasn't great, we experienced good and bad. We visited again over Christmas for a few drinks, service was good drinks were good so we booked in for food and drinks last night, from the moment we walked in josh was amazing, we felt welcome he sorted drinks out, service through out the night was spot on and the food was also spot on, we had a great night. Food was mostly nice, lovely steak and Mac and cheese. Chips over cooked and not thick chips as advertised and very greasy onion rings. Some issues with what deals were on we weren’t the only table having issues. No snickers for the snickertini disappointing and not as nice as usual. Manager didn’t seem bothered. Then mix up with bill at the end but the waitress who was lovely and had been all evening quickly rectified it. Gutted it wasn’t as good as we thought as we were so excited about it reopening.

Had a roast dinner here today and it was absolutely amazing! All the veg was fresh and really tasty. Absolutely piles of meat. So much that I had to bring some home, because I wasn’t wasting it! Only criticism was the cauliflower was a little bit too al dente , but not too al dente to eat. I’d give it a 9.5/10. Fantastic food and service. We both had the steak platter offer and it was the best steak we’ve tasted in ages. Cooked to perfection and such good value for money as it came with a free drink included. Excellent service from the waiting on staff too. Definitely be back again soon.

We visited tonight 23.11.23 just for drinks after Christmas shopping. As I was ordering a drink at the bar I looked through to the open kitchen to see a chef blow his nose on paper towel then discard it. Without washing his gloved hands then proceeded to chop up food throwing it into a pan. Considering the recent 0 hygiene rating we thought things might have improved. I went to the fat boar recently after I heard the rumour of rats just to check it out, and my word the rumours are true it was absolutely outrageous the size of the rat seen and the absolute stench from it was unbelievable. I would never go back even after renovations as the rat wee stains on the floor look like they will never come off. Also heard that the people who run the place are not very nice with their employees….authorities should really check that out….not nice of them to not pay them after all of that hard work. The staff was really kind there . They have a nice smile even though their day might have not been the best :(

Please do not be fooled by the ridiculous high priced food. It is awful. We went on the 24th September and the food was shocking. Wish I went to Wetherspoons. We sat downstairs 5 tables and every table complained. I did not eat or pay for the food as it was that bad I would not give a single star to this restaurant

Just poor all round, this is the third and last issue we have had, stay away.

I went with 3 friends. We all had the pre theater menu. It was all delicious. Well recommended.

I tried placing an order the other evening, and it repeatedly took me to the PayPal page, but it then wasn’t confirming the delivery. I called the restaurant and spoke to the most rude, snotty person ever. Explained the issue multiple times and he didn’t have a clue what to advise, just kept saying it’s not showing on the system yet - useful! Obviously no customer wants to place countless orders, as I only wanted one order for delivery. His attitude stank, so I asked to speak with a Manager. He said he was the Manager (I mean, really?!) and when quizzed, he then demoted himself to “Assistant Manager”. Asked to speak with the actual Manager, and apparently, this person was unavailable. He further wasted my time by taking my details and advising the ACTUAL Manager would call me back, however, obviously this never happened, and I was promised a callback 8 days ago. Shocking service, disgusting approach, zero customer service, nor regard for consumers - definitely wouldn’t recommend. I went to the Hungry Cow, just across the road, instead! 😊

Liked making them at the table with the cooked ingredients on a platter. Street parking 5 mins away on parallel road behind the Fat Boar. Great for couples and family. Outside seating available for sunny days and covered seating for wetter days....it is Wales you know! 😉
