Sunday roast, what a let down anaemic roast potatoes and watery gravy, it's gone down hill, was edible but that's about it

Excellent sunday lunchtime experience here. Walked in with no booking at 1.30ish and was lucky enough to nab the last available table. From the outside we were expecting a pub atmosphere, but it actually has more of an up-market restaurant feel inside, even though it had a tv screen with sport on and indie rock music - a nice balance with the best of pub and restaurant. Service was generally fast and friendly. The duck bonbons starter was absolutely amazing! For main I got the chicken burger - very generous portion with two patties, the chicken tasted good quality and the fries were delicious, perhaps homemade. My husband got the lamb shank and he has pretty high standards when it comes to meat quality so we werent sure what to expect but he said it was absolutely delicious. Will definitely be coming back and recommending to people.

Brilliant Service, polite, swift and wanted to be there to help. Food was excellent, The Hunters Chop, Beef Strogarnoff and the Chicken Burger are highly recomended.we will be coming back!

Great boozey brunch, staff, are very friendly the atmosphere was great, live music down stairs. It's one of our favourite places in Wrexham to get together with friends. ❤️

Went with a group of friends for a meal before the match and I was pleasantly surprised with the vegetarian option. Great for sitting indoors or out. Reservations might be a good call for busier days.

I came out with my family on Mother’s Day and we had a three course meal. We had our starters and they was bland and no taste of anything. Then we moved on to our mains which we all had a Sunday dinner. When the food arrived we started eating and we noticed Mouldy parsnips and carrots and a few other stuff. No one in my family was enjoying and no waiters came to check if the food was ok. We stop eating a put the knife’s and forks down and when waiting we told the waiter that we didn’t enjoy the mains and they responded with attitude saying everyone else is enjoying the food making us feel like we was the problem and then the dessert and after all that it was probably the worst for last. We told them we didn’t want to pay for the mains because we only eaten only a small amount but they refused to taken away the mains and made us . Will not be coming again worst Sunday dinner of my life.

Booked in for Tuesdays steak night. Was not disappointed, both steaks cooked as per request, one rare one medium rare. A great value meal in a really nice setting with lonely staff to greet and serve.

My wife and I went in on impulse and so glad we did. Food and drinks choice very impressive. 8oz ribeye steak on the lunchtime menu was delicious. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Would gladly go back.

My wife and I were very disappointed in the quality of food here. The Fat Boar was recommended by a friend and we got the burger and steak. Steak was tasteless and chewy and the Burger looked and tasted like a frozen pattie, very mushy and gross.

Great food,lovely staff and very good value, would go here again.

Saturday 10th February 2024 This pub is a good pub it served today 2 pale hand pumped ales from the BIG HAND BREWERY Peacfull easy going atmospheric pub that was well staffed

Visited on a weekday lunchtime so not busy and therefore lacking a bit of atmosphere but the food and service were spot on. Loved the ribs!

Disappointing! Ordered the house burger as never had it before, sounded good but that wasn't the case. The burger was dry when it was supposed to have a sauce on it, they brought out the sauce in a little pot as it was indeed supposed to be on the burger. The burger tasted like a very cheap frozen burger you would throw on a BBQ. Service was slow considering there was not many people there. We were not offered any water and one of our glasses had a huge crack in it! I ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir before we were given our mains... Mains came.. still no wine. Once the wine finally came we were already finished and was brought a pinot grigio... When we said we ordered noir the waitress then confirmed but the bottle was a white wine.. with it being such a long wait we didn't accept it. Really disappointing evening for all.

Ordered off the set lunch menu which is very good value. Fish and chips good as was the steak sandwich. However, there were very few veggie options and very uninspiring. Deserts were average. Service was OK although the staff hovered waiting to clear plates. The whole place lacked atmosphere. This was a Friday lunchtime!

Had the burger from here today and it was terrible. It was so bland and dry. The staff were lovely, however the food was so disappointing will not be going back unfortunately.

We have had a takeaway on New year eve. We ordered the special box x 2 for 5 of us. There was plenty of food for us. It was amazing. It arrived on time too. I have only good prase for all the staff at the fat bore. You do a amazing job. Happy New Year to you all. X x x 😍

Visited Monday the 18th of December found the service very slow although the place was quite empty, failed to get the drinks right, the food was nice to be fair, one thing annoyed me is they charged me just under £11 service charge on the bill, the bill wasn’t given to me until I paid too late to remove the service charge and it should of been mentioned to me before payment for me to choose if I wanted to tip that much which I didn’t as I felt the service wasn’t great. Be warned ask about the service charge when paying as they all seem to be doing this now and don’t mention it.

Came here on a Sunday night party of 9 people for 5-30 nobody else eating , in the pub , waited nearly an hour for food it was all prebooked !! The turkey dinners were cold , sent 2 back , they redid the dinners , everyone then had finished eating,when the dinners returned , the deserts finally came , just 4 cheesecakes , and nobody else’s after nearly half an hour had to go and ask were the rest were !!! Asked for the bill , I had prebooked from menu on internet which says £20 for 2 courses , but the bill said £21 , they did charge me £20 a head in the end . Will not be going back there , nobody in the party enjoyed the food and service .

We went for the Christmas cocktail night, the food and drinks were lovely. Just a heads up for someone who is going for the first time, it was super loud, I thought it would be like a restaurant environment but there were loads of people just standing up by our table. I went with my partner and we couldn’t even hear each other. It’s not a problem but I’d like to know that before booking a meal out.

Had an 'all girls' lunch in the middle of the week so not as busy as I was expecting. We'd pre-booked our table for which we were asked for a £5 per head deposit, very reasonable, especially when you read of places where tables have been booked but then no-one shows up on the day. This is a very clean establishment with an excellent reputation and the staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. We were shown to our table, on the upper floor, very quickly and given menus on which were a goodly number of dishes to suit most tastes. Our drinks order was taken and the said drinks appeared quickly, ditto the food which was well cooked, plentiful and hot, also very delicious. The prices are extremely reasonable. There is no on-site parking but there are car parks within walking distance and on-street parking just across the road but spaces are very limited and popular and you are very, very lucky if you manage to procure one! I can thoroughly recommend The Fat Boar and will be returning again very soon.

Always enjoy the food here, great for a special occasion. There was a cocktail night the night we were there - 5 course taster menu - with vegetarian option - paired with 5 different cocktails 😊

The food is fantastic and has a nice atmosphere and decor inside. The Fat Boar have got this setup spot on 👌the staff was extremely helpful in accommodating us with our baby and pram during our visit. Highly recommended and not to be missed.

I ordered ribeye steak, the plate look great on arrival but the steak was bland and pretty tasteless, it was greasy and no taste. Pretty poor at £24. Won't be going again.

Waited 20 minutes with order pending to be spoken to like an inconvenience for asking if it would be accepted, We then waited 2 and a half hours and phoned for an update to be told it will arrive some time soon. What arrived was squashed, cold, sweaty and not even right. What was charged for the festive wrap and what arrived made no sense. We have had great experiences in the past at the restaurant but if you can't cope maybe you shouldn't be offering delivery if the standard drops that harshly.

Was looking forward to this as it was our first visit. Disappointed as the steak was very thin and was tough. We wish we had ordered the Sunday dinners after, as they looked much better. Personally next time i want a steak i will use a steakhouse.

Over rated imo, its just really overpriced pub food. Staff all over the place, we had 3 different servers at our table, all just asking if we wanted more drinks all the time when we hadn't even finished the first one. Wouldn't go again for the money.

Overall disappointed albeit a decent spot in town. It feels like the chef has changed in the last 6 months and things have gone downhill since then. The spring rolls are dense and not as fresh and light as they used to be, the sole vegan main course option (penang curry) was served to me in about half a pint of water which I asked to be drained instead of replacing and was flavourless, the sauce had split and it had no texture. The vegan option dessert wasn't on the menu but there are two and the one I had was OK. We were also asked to leave half an hour before our table was due to be given up because of a cocktail party which I felt was rude and inconsiderate given we were celebrating my mum's 65th birthday. We asked if we had to leave even though our email said we had the table for another half an hour and we were told we did. In general, the service is good, the food is good, but our experience this time was poor. It hasn't completely put me off but the next time I go will definitely be a decider for me. A shame because this has been a stalwart in Wrexham for years.

Not the best, but not the worse for a fast meal

We were recommended the Fat Boar by a friend but found it to be a relatively average experience. Food was OK, the dirty fries stood out with the cheese and beer sauce. Average prices for pub grub. Waitress was busy, again 'standard'. Noisy atmosphere, would not recommend for a nice meal but a good pit stop if you're out getting drunk on the town.

Really enjoyed the food and atmosphere was buzzing a little louder than expected but it was a weekend. Staff were very attentive and busy. Would definitely recommend to friends and family and would come again aswell 😊

Came from South Wales to visit my son and daughter-in-law in Buckley. She is a coeliac and my husband is type 1 diabetic . Staff were brilliant and very helpful .

Had a family birthday celebration and everyone enjoyed their time at the Fat Boar. Service was efficient and friendly throughout, food delicious with good size portions, atmosphere good and didn't feel having children was a problem. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the experience and we will certainly be back very soon.

Arrived and told to find ourself a seat, first table we fancied was waiting to be cleaned so we chose a different table. The second table was as sticky as the first. We ordered out drinks and had a look at the menu. We really wanted the fajita deal, advertised from 12-9, however we were told it wasn’t available until 4pm. We decided we would just finish our drinks and leave, until I noticed lipstick on my husbands coffee glass. At that point we left, hungry and disappointed. Don’t advertise what you are not selling and clean your dishes and tables properly. We won’t be back.

Service here is 10/10 and food a generous 8/10, so well worth a visit if you are in the area!

Great place, cosy, sat at the bar enjoying the ambiance and a good choice of beers. Revisit for food not so good burger tasting sweet with processed sugar, Fajitas with poorly prepared meats and oversized wraps impossible to use . Only going in for a beer in the future. 😟

Pre football match food and drinks. Special match day deal of choice of 3 main courses and a drink. Plenty of food, good value for money at 13.50. Attentive staff, lots of people eating in after shopping or before the match. Nice alternative to eat pre match

Hen night which we had previously booked and paid a deposit. Very disappointed. Tables not ready. Only one server so waited hours for drinks, in fact we eventually went to the bar ourselves. Food at least 4 meals had to be returned as cold, meat so tough it was unchewable. Rather than upset the b2b we kept quiet but not recommended on this occasion

Popped in late afternoon for a drink and light snack. The Bang Bang Chicken was truly banging and the Posh Kebab delicious. Add the great decor and charming staff and you have a winner. Thanks Fat Boar!

The boar is a well decorated pub-style restaurant. The menu caters to many dietry requirements. Service was very slow and we constantly had to grab the waiters attention. Food was very average on the whole with semi-raw chips and overcooked meat - although the sticky sausages starter was excellent. We were also given the wrong dessert twice without apology and felt more of a hinderence than valued customers. Not offensively bad however it doesn't live up to the hype I'm affraid.

Had my first ever bottomless brunch here. The food was delicious, staff friendly, great service and lots of cocktails (8 each within the allotted time). Dirty fries and sticky sausages were highlights on the food. Definitely recommend!

Share platter ordered, asked to change sauce, waited while they checked with chef. Then when it came out it hadnt been changed! Asked a staff member who said she would check but never returned with an answer. The food was luke warm and the garlic bread was cold and dry. Staff would rather stand and chat at pizza oven than interact with guests. There was no atmosphere, no music and foul mouthed customers swearing and shouting across tables. NOT MY IDEA OF A NIGHT OUT.. 10% SERVICE CHARGE WITH NO SERVICE ..... Will not be returning.

ordered a salt and pepper chicken burger with fries this evening, burger was fine and lovely, but they sent me the complete wrong fries which kind of just ruins the whole meal.

Beautiful cocktails in the sunshine and friendly staff with great atmosphere

2019.. Saw the decking from the "bridge" and thought we'd give it a try. So glad we did, great beer, amazing food, really top quality and generous portions. The staff were welcoming and friendly throughout. We had a lovely couple of hours outside in the sunshine and plan to return on Wednesday evening with friends. 2023 still returning and having the same excellent food and service along with a couple of pints of Wrexham.

Service was excellent and food was delicious. The place is clean, tidy, modern, a small but well thought out menu and has a great beer 'garden' for those sunny afternoons or evenings. We did have to send a glass of Malbec back because it had an odd taste - a replacement arrived quickly but was only slightly better and was warm (almost mulled wine warm not just room temperature) so suggest maybe better care of opened bottles? I'm unsure about the deposit being per person rather than per booking but understand the reasons why. Other than those minor quibbles everything was great, and definitely recommend - one of my favourite places to eat in Wrexham.

VERY disappointed when eating here on Saturday afternoon. Been here few times before, and never had an issue. However, when first two mains were brought to table, one was correct but one was a dish that nobody had ordered. We then waited another 10 minutes for the rest to be served to the table (assuming they’d messed up the whole order in the kitchen). I’d ordered the Thai Red Curry (as did another person in our group), which definitely wasn’t what we were served. I did complain, and the waitress went to ask the kitchen. Came back and said the chef confirmed it definitely was Red Thai Curry (first time I’d had it tasting like Teryaki and served with mango chutney and naan bread!). I know what a Red Thai Curry is, and this wasn’t one. When she asked the chef a second time, I was told he replied this was how he always made it (!?) They’ve obviously messed up the order and we were being fobbed-off hoping we wouldn’t notice. Somebody had also ordered a chicken burger, which they said tasted disgusting, and could hardly bite through it as it was so tough. This was sent back, and another chicken burger was served which didn’t taste much better. Always want to support local restaurants and businesses, and Fat Boar supposed to be one of the best in Wrexham. Unfortunately, this experience has really put me off returning for food anytime soon. We were given 3 of the meals for free in the end, which only shows they know there was a mistake with the order, but I’d rather have been told that than being lied to and fobbed off with a meal that I hadn’t ordered

This place has gone downhill. Food is ok but mediocre. Service is lacking these days. Disappointing.

Had daughter in laws 2nd hen, boozy brunch😜 food was good and plentiful as were the cocktails. staff worked extremely hard to keep the drinks flowing and nothing was too much trouble. Even the horrendous thunderstorm as we were in outdoor area didn't stop us once again staff were on hand making sure we were not getting wet well done fatboar you made our celebration special 👏

Only had tables outside,which was great on a warm evening. Would have been nice to have set area For eating as had a rowdy bunch next to us. Fish and chips were great. Lime and strawberry cheese cake was to die for.

Ordered a take away from this restaurant. Given a time for delivery. This hasn't happened. Tried to contact several times but no reply on every try. Taken the money and no delivery and no way to contact as not answering the phone. Disgraceful and very disappointing. No doubt the Fat Boar will ignore this comment and complaint. Do not promise what you cannot deliver and be honest when the costumer is trying to resolve the problem. Definitely do not recommend this restaurant for delivery

I thought Fat Boar Mold was good but I had my first visit to Fat Boar Wrexham yesterday and it was excellent Staff, food and service all spot on Thank you - we'll be back again soon

Great Atmosphere Here 🤩 My latest visit was great , lovely food ,the rack of ribs was so tender the meat forked off the bones so no sticky fingers ,the coleslaw was amazing too ,friendly staff, our waitress Abby was so helpful , a great place for quality food and and a great atmosphere,great sun garden too ! ☀️

I haven't been in Fat Boar since pandemic, and thought I would give it a go again for a nice family sunday meal, the experience wasn't great tbh, food was good can't complain on that, but service on the other hand, well there was none and they charged 10% for that. when we entered the restaurant we chose the table outside, we've been given the menu cards and off you go. I was waiting about 15 min and none of the waitress came to the table, I went to the bar and they told me we need to order the food at the bar, a bit strange for a restaurant especially that it wasn't too busy. I've ordered the food and 4 drinks, the lady didn't even offer to help me to take the drinks to the table outside so i had to go twice, the food was served initially without the cutlery but the waitress brought some when she served more food, my son got less fries then my daughter on their plate but other than that the food was good. After we finished we were waiting quite a long time for someone to come in clean the table and serve the deserts or even ask if we want something else to drink, but in the end we decided to go home and take desserts home as we were getting annoyed, they gave us waffles without the ice-cream but only realised later. I'm normally happy to leave the tip for a good service but they decided to add 10% service charge to the bill without even asking, so it cost me 10% for the waitress to bring my food to the table and nothing beyond that. Very poor defo not going back, had a much different experience in their competitors 200 yards away.

Evening meal with friends. Small selection on the menu as one of our party is gluten free and vegan, so just a couple of options for her. Nice meal. A deposit was asked for when booking.

We eat here quite regularly, but I haven't had a roast here for quite some time. We dined yesterday, 2 of us ordered the roast and the quality has unfortunately declined. The roast potatoes were poor, in fact nothing actually looked 'roasted'. We have previously been brought fresh veg in serving bowls, gravy boat, cauliflower cheese, but not on this occasion. Staff great as always but the meal just seemed microwaved. Disappointed as I took my mum for lunch and told her how great Sunday lunch is.
