The Fat Badger in Harrogate

We had two courses from the Sunday set menu. The beef roast was amazing with plenty of meat and a giant Yorkshire pudding. Service was fast and friendly. Very happy.

Excellent food and faultless service. We visited during a 2 night stay in York and had a lovely day exploring Harrogate finished with a beautiful meal. Highly recommended.

We had a beef and pork dinner, plenty of meat and just the right amount of veg. Huge Yorkshire pudding were a credit to the chef! Our food was piping hot and service was good.

Enjoyed a wonderful birthday lunch. The food was great - mine a lovely shepherds pie, the nicest I’ve had and my friend buttermilk chicken which looked amazing. Great atmosphere. Great service - Luke you looked after us so well. Thank you Fat Badger we will be back!

Recommended on a dog friendly website so bit disappointed when we got there to see dogs only outside. No problem nice sunny day so took a seat. Had to get my own menu from bar and note my table for the order, all felt a bit a bit ‘spoons” to me.. my be having an off day but guy behind the bar was quite rude. Other staff, waiter and waitress lovely.. we have been staying in a five star hotel outside of Harrogate and food was cheaper there. Food was ok but I think I expected more, maybe my issue.

The food was lovely as was the restaurant. Newly refurbished and full of life. The staff took a bit of time to serve us and weren’t overly attentive however the location, price and decor were exceptional.

Great food at slightly higher than average prices. All service at the bar where they lock away your card and give you a key to retrieve your card to pay the bill. A very large selection of cask beers. Very clean

Great place. Fabulous food and reasonably priced. Thank you! Only suggestion would be to say on the menu that the king prawns are battered as I wouldn’t expect that in a taco and not a fan of battered prawns, so wouldn’t have ordered had I know. But will definitely be back! ☺️

Food good main room was a little dark but if you are stopping over don't stop in room 413 advertised as double Delux but has separate bathroom outside of room also room is getting tiered

Lovely place to sit outside with a drink and food to people watch. Heaters are outside, so you can stay cosy. Great atmosphere and friendly staff!

Fell below expectations after having a great experience at the York Branch. Starters of duck as well as the vegan tacos was nice. The Chateaubriand simply had little flavour. Peppercorn sauce also lacked flavour and was far to runny. Side order of peas were average at best. The mushroom was very nice, as we're the chunky chips. However the deserts were excellent. Service by the young man was attentive and helped make up for the meal falling below my expectations.

There is a great ambience in The Fat Badger with great service and fantastic food. Will definately be visiting again.

Decent food but need to improve the service. Lovely venue and nice atmosphere but the bar man was rude, asked for a fanta or tango, they just didnt do either which was fine, was offered san pelligrino or has he called it “Tory Fanta”, not the smartest comment given where the restaurant is, definitely felt like he had a chip on his shoulder. The food was nice but the service was slow. Asked for extra gravy and condiments and had to go up and ask again as they took that long we’d nearly finished the mains which was disappointing. It felt like they were too busy and couldn’t keep up as we heard the table next to us complain about the wait too. It’s a shame as we’d really looked forward to our visit and had heard great things

I had dinner there with my family, we all loved the food, the service was very good, attentive but not over done. The restaurant decor is a relaxing colonial style which added to the whole experience. Loved it, will go again next time we're in the area.

We visited the bar during our stay at the hotel. Lovely pub. Plenty of seating, great decor and buzzing atmosphere. Great find.

The minute we walked through the door I remembered why we’d stopped dining here. From the Maître d’ we got a surly “Have you booked??” (we had). No ‘good evening’ or ‘hello’. Marched by his young side-kick to the side room which is clearly reserved for people with children - it was like a crèche. We were 4 adults . Tables in this room are very squashed together. We asked if we could switch to one of the other tables for 4. Answer “No, they’re all booked”. (this turned out to be a lie) and then, “this is where we’ve put you”. We were shocked at the rudeness of staff and being treated as second class citizens. We eat regularly in the ‘pub’ of The Fat Badger, which is a great place (albeit very crowded ) but unfortunately one cannot reserve a table there. Having said that, the food was very good and our young German waiter was lovely (he should be running a course on Politeness for the rest of the staff) .

Omg been to stay with friends for a birthday came hear for sunday lunch wow 1 of best dinners ive ever eaten 1 to remember and will defo be coming back next visit

Food is very, reasonable and very good quality for a "pub". Loads of beers, ciders and spirits for any taste.

Love going to The Fat Badger for Sunday lunch. Service and staff were first class felt a little disappointed with the serving of vegetables for 2 people was less than usual.

We ate here Sunday and returned Monday night due to the food being so good Sunday. Sunday, we were on the 3 courses for £30, and all 3 courses were excellent, and we were stuffed. We returned on Monday night for the a la carte menu, and again, the food was delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful. If we're in the area again, we will definitely be back.

The biggest problem was that the chef forgot our order and so did the waiter. After waiting a good hour we brought this to their attention for the second time. The food was good but not exactly as described and we were grateful for the full refund.

Great service, reasonable atmosphere. The food was ok, the menu is fairly limited but there should be something for everyone.

We were a group of 4 and everyone enjoyed their meals, very impressed with the food and service. We arrived at Fat Badger only 5 minutes after opening time so it was very quiet just what we wanted tbh.

We were staying at the hotel and needed something to eat, so popped in for a quick bite. I had the fish sandwich, which was unusual and lovely. A bit more tartar sauce would have made it perfect

Nice vibe and atmosphere but sooooo expensive! No entertainment on so the price wasn't justified.

Went for the Sunday roast. Great value and plenty variety on the menu. Had a great meal in lovely surroundings. Very pleasant evening.

Very average. We had the chateaubriand with chips , slaw and peppercorn sauce. The steak was fresh but tasteless and poorly cooked. Frozen chips are so basic. Peppercorm sauce was watery and tasteless. Slaw was passable along with greek salad. Overall we wont be back for food. Basic basic food. I wonder do they taste it before they put it out? Staff are all 5 years old, nice enough but no experience. Not child friendly, kitchen refused to do a basic mashed potato for our baby. Threes a crowd in Harrogate food is 10x better and they do Chateaubriand properly with lobster.

Sunday lunch is consistently perfect

My first visit to the Fat Badger was welcomed by Kallum, who worked behind the bar. His enthusiasm was equalled at my pleasure of seeing that Tetley bitter was being sold. My wife and I booked a table in the restaurant that evening and the food was exceptional. This is an absolute quality establishment mirrored by the quality of service.

Had a random visit to Harrogate but although we were staying in another hotel we booked a meal here. Food was delicious and the service and staff were brilliant

Great experience at the Fat Badger. Booked for dinner last Saturday night. We had a couple of drinks in the bar before dinner- great atmosphere and very busy. The menu in the restaurant was excellent, the food quality was great and the staff were brilliant, very attentive. Would definitely recommend and will go back next time I'm in Harrogate.

8 people in our party on weekday afternoon. Everyone’s food arrived all at the same time & hot. Freshly prepared generous portions - as are the sides. Good coleslaw the hot sandwiches. are well filled, with handful of crisps and a separate fresh salad not just 70% bread as often the case. Lovely cosy atmosphere on a wet, gloomy afternoon in Harrogate. Our Australian visitors loved the venue & decor.

Boxing Day in Harrogate found many venues closed and we had not intended on visiting this one! We were very pleased that we did! The staff were welcoming and attentive and the drinks and food were very enjoyable. We highly recommend this.

Date of visit: 14/12/2023 Starter: Lightly Curried Smoked Haddock Risotto - delicious flavourful dish, quality ingredients with a perfectly cooked poached egg. Main: Pork Belly - a beautiful piece of pork belly, lovely crisp fat with with lovely soft, juicy meat. The black pudding hash brown and caramelised pair both compliment the pork perfectly. Venue: a lovely old building, beautifully decorated, located in the wonderful Montpellier Quarter of Harrogate.

We had a meal at the Fat Badger 3rd January (we were in Harrogate for a few days from Norfolk). The food was okay, nothing to write home about. The main disappointment was the service. It's hard to comment on the atmosphere as there were only 3 tables being occupied and one was ours. We had a table booked for 7.30, we were a little early and we were rushed through to our table without being offered a drink. When someone came to take our order, we had to ask for a drink and that arrived after our starter. There was no "welcome" or chat with the waiter, no ambiance at all. We were by finished by 8.30 and quite honestly glad to leave. Was it to near to The New Year that staff had just "turned off". It was a shame as we had enjoyed our time in Harrogate and had beautiful meals in various places. I feel that some customer service wouldn't come a miss - possibly some training at The Ivy.....

Fantastic place for food and drinks. Under the White Hart Hotel. Looks beautiful with Christmas lights still up. Just under £50 for food and drinks for 2.

Both the bar and restaurant are excellent places to visit. Good quality food. Vibrant atmosphere without being overbearing.

Beautiful family meal on New Year’s Eve. Service was friendly and efficient and all seven meals were excellent! Would definitely visit again and would recommend to anyone visiting Harrogate

The table was next to a window blowing a draught. They moved us when mentioned. Service was very amateurish. We weren’t asked if everything was ok, assuming given the standards of the food that was why. Starters were ok but main very oily. Both dishes, sea bass and pork were oily and the post was more fat than meat. We couldn’t mention the disappointment because there was no one to say anything to.

Popped in on Boxing Day after making a very late booking. Very attentive staff. As a vegetarian we were surprisingly impressed by the quality of the food. Coconut rice pudding was brilliant. Nice atmosphere. Clean washrooms too

Went to celebrate my 60th Birthday. After ordering our drinks we were bought a glass of complimentary fizz. The service from the staff was excellent, the food was excellent (confit duck Bon Bon’s, mussels in white wine and cream, rib eye steak, buttermilk chicken. A delicious red wine finished by an indulgent chocolate ganache cake. I really had a great meal.

Super Sunday lunch, biggest Yorkshire pudding I have ever had it was amazing. Beef was beautifully cooked as was the pork and chicken. Friendly staff and good service to say they were extremely busy. 2 of our party requested Cranberry Sauce but were told they didn't have any, is it just for Christmas Day?

A very nice lunch in the restaurant. Food was cooked beautifully, the chips were sssooo good. Obviously, the price was a little more than we would pay at home but actually, we still felt it was value for money

Food amazing as ever. I had roast pork and the wife had roast beef. Wine was lovely and the puddings we had were nice too. I had sticky toffee pudding and my wife had apple crumble.

Don't sit near door very drafty everytime someone comes in or goes out But everything else was perfect

Lovely Restaurant and Awesome English Breakfast was served.

Cool place to have a drink and chill, watching the world go by. The tables outside have heating and blankets, great for our November afternoon visit. I was very impressed with the inside of the pub, too. The staff were excellent, as was the beer i had. We didn't eat, so i can't review that.

Last minute Sunday Roast, quite busy but managed to get a table for two and we were not disappointed. Excellent food and service in a fabulous setting. Choice of beers and wines - would definitely recommend if you’re in Harrogate.

We really enjoyed our Sunday dinner at the fat Badger. I had the roast chicken and it was very succulent and tasty. The presentation was nice too. Portion size is very generous, I shared my 2 courses with my daughter and we were both very full from it. Atmosphere is nice and has a warm cosy feel which is perfect during November. Will definitely return for more!

They have a very nice restaurant in addition to the Pub/bar area. Good eats, nice atmosphere and not wildly expensive, so overall a good venue for a nice evening out.

What a brilliant place with a really good atmosphere. Alway stop at the White Hart when in Harrogate and visit the Fat Badger.

I have been here a couple of times. Last time I was at the restaurant part had the specials. I absolutely loved it. Service is spot on. Food quality and quantity are excellent. I have 2 teens who want to eat there all the time. Totally recommend it.

I really enjoyed the buffet breakfast here with a friend, lots of great choices, all perfectly cooked and plenty of everything.

Lovely Sunday lunch in this very busy restaurant. Shame we were not asked if we would like any sauces with our meal and it took an age for the starter plates to be cleared away. Very hectic and more staff would be a good idea . We will definitely be back tho

A well presented and lively restaurant where booking is essential. If you arrive early there is a relaxing bar to get a pre dinner drink. Seating was on time and a nice table for a couple. Service is a little slower than most due it being very busy but if that suited us as we were in rush. Unfortunately the young man serving the wine didn’t open the bottle at the table due to being nervous re how to open it so a little more training required. We both had steak and both cooked perfectly and we finished off with the cheeseboard which was very nice. I thought the food prices were about right for the type of restaurant and the wine selection was varied. Would recommend and we will probably try again when we come back to Harrogate

We have been here several times now. Its our go to place when we come to Harrogate. We came here for a drink around 5pm. We sat outside under the heaters as although it was getting late in the afternoon it was still nice outside. This is so nice to be able to do. Blankets are also available. We ordered a bottle of wine. Which turned into us ordering food - pizza and the special pasta.We shared both. Both were delightful. The pasta was pea and pesto. Not what we would normally choose but it was excellent. (You know it is good when you order two but there is only one left). The pizza was cooked to perfection. As it was busy inside as the night drew on, we ate outside which made it extra special at this time of year. And the one bottle of wine turned into two. Would recommend The Fat Badger as a place to visit.

I never expect much from hotel restaurants, but this place is so good! Highly recommend. I came for dinner and got the sea bass risotto dish and a glass of wine. It was cooked perfectly and was so good. I came back the next day for a Sunday roast lunch. I got the pork roast and then the sticky toffee pudding dessert. Wow. I thought dinner was good, but these two dishes were even better! Delicious!! Definitely will come back if I find myself in Harrogate again.
