The Farmhouse at Mackworth in Derby

Me and my partner came recently on a Sunday. I think we came over a cross over time as we were seen by a couple of staff though all equally as friendly and welcoming! Atmosphere was good and well filled out, though service seemed quick! Food was really amazing and we will definitely be returning!

Well.. if you want an evening of chasing your own drinks, cutlery, glasses, food ( for it to arrive burnt) .. come to The Farmhouse at Mackworth... the server did not have a clue and was not changed to another colleague when asked... no glasses for drinks, incorrect orders, warm wine, had to ask for wine cooler, over an hour for food to arrive as the server despite being told x3 that it was x2 meals the same forgot and only ordered one, drinks when they did arrive were wrong ... terrible serving experience.. food wasn't anything to write home about.. my companions food was burnt and inedible, my other companions pasta was dry!

Large group of 15 guests, flawless service and all food came out correctly, quickly and nothing but positive feedback from everyone in the group!

We had our wedding in August 2024, planned by Paige & coordinator Britt who made this the most special day we could have ever asked for. The planning stages were so well organised, thoughtful & nothing was ever too much trouble. Both coordinators are so passionate & it shows in their work. Our wedding day was faultless, beautiful; better than we could have ever imagined. All the staff on the day were brilliant, friendly & professional. All our guests kept giving compliments on the day as a whole, including how amazing the food was. We visit the Farmhouse on numerous occasions; great food & atmosphere every time. We can't speak highly enough of the Folly for a wedding.

We visited the farmhouse for a wake. Food was lovely however, the service provided on the front desk was not well received. The lady came across quite rude, not helpful and very “stand offish”. Such a shame as the young girl behind the bar was extremely helpful.

Stayed for a night for a work trip and it honestly felt more like a casual one. Ben and his team were absolutely fantastic and couldn't do enough. They were super busy with a Sunday lunch/dinner rush and yet they were still amazingly attentive and made sure I had everything I needed. The food was excellent, both dinner and breakfast and ive even stuck around for lunch the next day as its such a comfortable place to work from. The room was spacious, clean and the bed offered a great nights sleep. Would highly recommend a trip to The Farmhouse, great all rounder!

After a rather disapointing experience a few weeks ago, thanks to Samantha we were offered a discounted meal. the starters of Haddock fish cakes and Cauliflower wings were both excellent. For our mains we both went for the pan fried chicken wrapped in bacon with chorizo veg and small roasties. It was absolutley delicious. The only criticism I can still make was the Garlic bread was still very dry as on the previous visit. Verity our server was great, very bubbly, polite and helpfull. All in all a very good evening, thank you.

George was really great and went the extra mile, food was great and so was the service. Would definitely recommend!!!!!

We had an outstanding dining experience, thanks to our waiter, Jake. From the moment we sat down, he was attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. Jake went above and beyond to ensure that our meal was perfect, offering great recommendations and checking in at just the right times. His warm personality made our evening even more enjoyable. We will definitely be coming back, and we hope to have Jake as our server again. Highly recommend!

We visited for a family meal at lunchtime. The service from George was great. The food was brought out quickly and was tasty. The fish and chips was a very generous portion too. It was a quiet lunchtime so we got a nice table with plenty of room. The car park is spacious with EV charging points if needed too.

This was our first visit and we experienced fantastic service from start to finish. We went for a family meal for my son's birthday. The food was great quality and cooked perfectly. Went for a meal for a belated birthday and found that the staff couldn't do enough for us, from arriving until departing, been a lovely experience.

I booked and paid for a family suite. The room I got was not a family suite .. it was damp , cold, with no way of adjusting the temperature. The room was dusty and the bathroom was dirty. The general repair of all the woodwork and ceilings was disgusting. There were not enough staff around to complain on checkout so I contacted the manager as soon as I got home . They refused to accept any liability for my complaints even though I took photographs. I can't believe I paid for such a dump & didn't even get the room that I booked . My family also booked 3 other rooms on the same day & non of the rooms were ready til an hour and a half after the check on time either. Very overpriced, avoid at all costs .

A warm welcome from Rhys, pleased to have the room from 2.00pm and not have to vacate until 11.00. The room was super and well equipped. We later enjoyed a very tasty nice meal in the restaurant which was busy and buzzing - with brilliant service by our waitress Mollie. Next morning we enjoyed a late breakfast severed by George who was charming and pleased to know we’d enjoyed our stay. We have family locally so we definitely coming back.

Went for a club meeting in the Library, good venue, staff very helpful….. BUT how can Marstons charge £14 for a glass of very ordinary Sauvignon Blanc (New Zealand) wine & £10 for Chilean ? Beware 2 glasses of wine will cost you £36 and it’s just ordinary and I wasn’t the only person from our group who exclaimed when given their drink !! Drink water with your meal !

Had dinner on a Sunday teatime with family while visiting the area . Food was good and the atmosphere also good . Large car park and as I’ve been before I know they have a nice garden for the summer months .

My friend had an offer, which we were pleased to take up. We went for lunch and were very pleased with the outcome. We were met with a smile and were shown to our table, straight away. All the staff, were pleasant and keen to serve. My friend ordered steak pie and I had fish and chips.Both of us enjoyed our meals, which were tasty and piping hot. The efficiency of the staff was impressive and the kitchen deserves a mention for the quality of the food and the presentation. We were served mainly by Jake, who was on top of his game, but all staff were brilliant.

Six of us came today, we all chose the three course lunchtime menu, which was served quickly and was quite acceptable. our servers were friendly , helpful and efficient.Everyday dining .

This place used to be fabulous with all home-cooked food. Unfortunately it has now gone all Marston's branded, with food presumably bought in and heated up on-site. I'm sure that makes a higher profit margin per plate for Marstons but its not what I want - I try really hard to avoid ultra-processed food, I cook from scratch at home, and I expect restaurants to do the same. The food has changed from fabulous to average and I won't be back in a hurry.

Still on cloud 9 after a wonderful long birthday weekend with my hubby at this lovely hotel. We booked here as a base to explore the Peak District and celebrate my birthday and it definitely exceeded our expectations! We booked to stay in the Napoleon suite and were both honestly blown away with how impressive it is not just in size but all the facilities and little touches that have been added just helped to make it extra special. The cookies were delicious and having these replenished and the bottled water plus a coffee machine and a DAB radio were an added bonus. Plus having two TVs meant we could both watch something from the bed and from the bath which was just heavenly…. The room itself is stunning and beautifully decorated with a large roll top bath, waterfall shower and king size bed which was super comfortable. The wardrobe is a great size with bathrobes in which is another nice addition though we sadly didn’t get a chance to make use of these. My one complaint about the room is that it wasn’t as clean as it should have been especially on the tables and side tables plus a few marks on the wall and big stains on curtain and the dust and damage to some items need addressing and updating as it’s looking a tad tired and tatty in some areas. All this could be rectified very easily with a touch of paint and items replacement to ensure the room lives up to its high standard wow factor upon first appearance. We dined downstairs in the restaurant on the Friday evening and the drinks we had in the bar prior to the meal and our dinner and wine that we consumed were excellent and great value for money. Jacob the waiter was superb with his attentiveness and level of customer service and attention to detail. The layout and decor of the bar/restaurant is really warm and inviting and has a cool quirky vibe that makes you want to immerse yourself in the surroundings completely and experience it to the full which we definitely did. Overall we throughly enjoyed our stay here and have not only recommended to friends but very much look forward to returning in the near future! :-)

Entrance crowded with smokers, so a cloud of tobacco to walk through to get in.. then met disintersted bar staff, who serve 'extra cold' Guinness at room temperature and really do not care when told about it, same as the restaurant staff who were so uninterested when told the seats were dirty and should be cleaned.. almost like they were above speaking to the public. A venue with great potential, but sadly the staff need re training or replacing.

They didn’t seem to have enough staff on our visit. It took 20 mins for drinks to arrive, the child’s dinner was cold as was mine. In their favour they replaced both and the team were very apologetic but we won’t visit again before 5 on a Sunday.

Had lunch & a one night stay. The sandwich was entirely forgettable & the chips stuck together in clumps. The room had a bathroom with peeling paint on the walls & and a bath towel wedged along its window opening, in a vain attempt to stop the cold from coming in. Won’t be going again, nor recommending others to do so.

I wrote about not being able to eat dairy when I booked but there was no information readily available about this. When I asked the waiter he advised to look at the app which showed very limited dishes (I asked which of the roast items I’d be able to eat, as it’s likely that the roast didn’t appear on the menu as the Yorkshire puddings usually have diary in). It took the manager getting involved to get an answer. It’s a shame as it delayed our order and made it disappointing. The food and service were great.

The venue has a lovely ambience and a nice style and design to it. It would be nice on a special occasion. The food was expensive for what it was, for the prices, I’d have expected something a bit special like local ingredients. The desserts in particular were a total rip off!

We booked a meal for 7 on a Thursday night which is also steak night with 30% off. We sat on a table with ample space for all 7 of us. The waiter was great, being there for anything that we needed including extra sauces and drinks. The food was freshly cooked and tasted great. The steaks were perfectly cooked to what was requested. We hired the Library Room at The Farmhouse for my late father's 'Celebration of Life' gathering following his funeral. This proved to be just the right sized venue for approximately 45 - 50 guests. We wanted to decorate the room with family photos and flowers the night before and this wasn't an issue. I would definitely recommend paying a bit extra in order to have the white table linen option, this brightened the room significantly. The food was lovely and we were allowed to make a couple of tweaks to things such the sandwich fillings/quantities beforehand - we wanted lots of egg mayo, my Dad's favourite and this wasn't a problem. We also requested an alternative veggie sausage roll option as the butternut squash option wasn't to our taste. Again, this wasn't an issue to amend. Many thanks to Paige who oversaw our booking. Her communication and professionalism throughout the organisation of this event was much appreciated. We have since had many compliments regarding the venue, relaxed atmosphere and the food. I would definitely recommend The Farmhouse to anyone looking to host a similar event.

Excellent Sunday lunch. Not somewhere we would normally go as the wine is too expensive. But I’m glad it didn’t put us off because our food really was amazing. We have started to go out every Sunday to different restaurants to compare the Sunday lunch and can honestly say this is by far the best, better than a local Michelin star restaurant.

WOW, but not in a good way. Friday night we popped in for a drink and a meal, the place is deserted and I can see why. £35 for a ribeye steak and peppercorn sauce, a bottle of Prosecco £35 (favola £9.99 Tesco). We have decided to leave and pop across the road to the Mundy Arms, review for follow.

The food was excellent, all clearly homemade rather than the ultra-processed rubbish you find in many pubs and restaurants. Particularly loved the bruschetta and the cheesecake but it was all really very good indeed. Experience was slightly marred by the service. We were shown to our table and then waited 15 minutes to receive menus - which we only got by flagging down a passing waitress. Again after we had eaten our main course the table wasn’t cleared for a good 20 minutes and we had to flag another waitress (not ours) to order dessert. The restaurant was very busy, but maybe you need more staff? Or a bit more training? I certainly don’t like being rushed in a restaurant but this was a whole other level - it felt like we were wearing invisibility cloaks! However, the food was great so we will definitely be back!
