It’s funny what can happen on a Thursday travelling down the London road in St Albans you stop at the Farmers Boys in St. Albans see a sea of people baby boomers and Gen X, bobbing bald heads of gentlemen being reminded of a time of love and camaraderie thought lost. No challenges , no issues here just a great group of people enjoying what can only be described as music at its best no technology fine tuning , raw musicality and talent excellence to the ears! These guys have travelled the world and played for legends Elton John wedding , Lulu’s 60th , Ringo Starr ‘s 70th

Been there many times and enjoy my each visit. Love this place. Nice atmosphere, great staff, good service. What else you need. Oh yeah great craft beers on tap, serving in cask & keg. Amazing variety. Plenty of seatings as well as lovely beer garden at the back. Live music at weekend in beer garden with super cool atmosphere. All the staff at bar friendly and helpful. Had spent quality time there and enjoyed my drinks. Thanks to the staff team. Highly recommended for great choice of craft beers

My daughter shared a picture of the sunday roast which looked amazing. We booked for 3 last sunday, when we arrived nobody except the barmaid was in. It looked a little bit chaotic to start but we had a very good experience. Homemade hummus as an appetizer and the sunday roast was unsual but very nice looking and tasting. The chef is french and you can tell everything is homemade and made with love. I can hardly recommend this restaurant. 2 courses for 18 pounds!!!!!

A very impressive outdoor bar beer selection in this wonderful, all weather beer garden. Wonderful to be sat in the sun drinking 2/3rd of a pint pours (all other legal pours available). Such a welcome improvement, making this the best craft beer pub in St Albans and surrounding area, by a very long distance! We done and congrats.

Typical English pub inside - usual decor etc. but the music balance is pretty good. Having said that, I had a delicious porter and a pretty good red beer... but it came to over £11 ???

My colleague and I visited this bar this evening. There was appalling service from the onset. My colleague offered a £50 pound note to pay for drinks and was immediately quizzed as to whether her currency was genuine when clearly no one else was being asked. Apparently the barmaid had mislaid her note checker and the inference was made to my highly embarrassed colleague that she was dishonest and trying to pawn off counterfeit cash. The barman who refused to give his name was also party to this conversation. He came to the table, reeking of cigarettes and made a half hearted effort to apologise saying that the barmaid was not rude, when in fact she was. I went then to the bar and she refused to serve me, stating that it was past closing time. I returned to my seat only to watch her serve another customer immediately. I challenged her on this and she said she was replacing a drink the customer had spilt. That was a lie. She was challenged on this and immediately started shouting the odds, that we had been drinking, were rude and she would throw us out. It is my belief she heard an accent different to what she’d been used to and treated us differently accordingly. This on top of the fact that on each of the two occasions we went to the bar, the tariff was different for exactly the same drinks. Even fellow punters agreed that while it is commonplace to check currencies, there is a proper way of doing so and certainly without embarrassing the customer. Both staff members on duty could only be described as inept, a word I feel confident that will need to be referenced in a dictionary for either one to understand. Absolutely disgusting behaviour was displayed by both staff members and neither I nor my colleague will return. Furthermore, given the threat of being shown up as drunk on cctv by the barmaid, I’m going to make a point of making an official complaint to the proprietor. 1 star rating is too much.

Been going to this pub for a couple of years as it does host great live music. Big downside are the bar staff. They never show any sign of recognition and you’re lucky if you get a nod (their version of good evening what can I get you) when they serve you, let alone a smile. Just odd and poor for a pub which promotes itself as family run.

Located right by a set of traffic lights, so no parking although there are local car parks nearby. A good selection of unusual real ales, craft lagers and ciders. Has regular music nights as well as a sports following. The night we went in it was pretty quiet though, even close to Christmas - it seemed a bit too quiet but perhaps all the locals were partied out already? We did not eat, only had drinks, so cannot comment on the food quality.Seemed like a reasonable place and if you're a real ale hound, there's a good selection.

Worst pub I visited in st albans. The barman will take your beer and dispose of it. Only advice if you venture this public house is do not let your pint out of your site.

One of my favourite pubs for an impromptu pint of ale- particularly if the rugby is on.regular change of ales on the pumps, a good couple of trad ciders, and a tempting pub food menu, all delivered by friendly staff in a true community atmosphere.

This freehouse pub always has a grest beer selection on and it's a travesty that it never gets into the CAR Good Beer Guide. Not only do they get in some iterating beers, that they happily give you a taste of before you buy, the beers are well priced and we'll kept!Friendly, efficient staff, it stays open late at weekends. Nice beer garden. They serve good honest homemade pub food.It is also a great music venue, featuring the best local bands! If you like good beer, cask or keg, and your in St Albans, give it a visit!

This is a tiny pub but you feel very welcome, we came to watch The Regulators ska band this Saturday and had an awesome time, we tried their burgers and they were delicious, all home made and their chips were like you used to have as a child, brown and tasty not white rock hard ones that are common place these days. Well worth popping in if you're passing. We couldn't buy a burger from their van in the garden as they were selling mixed grills, a bit odd I thought.

This pub hits the extremes- often! Some good music played here, with varying audiences. Good beer garden which hosts music and beer festivals. A varying selection of beers, including some brewed on the premises, High Five is exceptional, but generally quality can vary, taste first. Good staff. Seems to be quiet Saturday evening and gets busy after 12.30!

Not a bad pub, and there were a couple of interesting beers available which went down well. The music (which wasnt great) was really loud, which meant we couldnt really talk properly which was a shame, and had we been staying for longer, would have been an issue.

Nice pub, but got loads of hassle to finish our (expensive) drinks from the staff at the end of the evening - which was unnecessary and spoilt the end of the evening. The Great Northern further down the road has nicer staff, better food and drinks and nicer atmosphere!

Thought I would enjoy a quiet pint of mild from the on site microbrewery. Unfortunately it was ruined by the barman allowing a pi$$ed up loud mouth Romanian spout his sweary drivel about the Russian Mafia.Charming. I'd have chucked him out. Well, maybe got a few friends to help me.Really spoiled my evening's beer related plans.

The beer in this pub is very good, good selection, good quality. It's not a restaurant as the description seems to indicate. It's a pub but the food is good. If I wanted a nice well priced lunch and a couple of pints of good ale, I'd go here anytime. The staff are very friendly and the prices are on a par with other pubs. If you like real ale this is a place to visit in my opinion. I've never been in the evening but I wouldn't hesitate to pop in. I'd have have given it a four if it wasn't described as restaurant. I'm going back.

Me and my fiancé heard good things about the food here and we eventually tried it out last week. I had pie and my bf had the steak. The steak pie was amazing, huge chunks of tender beef cooked to perfection, the portion was massive. My fiances steak was perfectly cooked and also a big portion. Would definately recommend this pub for food, the prices are extremely cheap and the food is good home made stuff, we will definately be back again!

Booked 10 people in for lunchtime from work but despite me asking if they needed us to pre-order and them saying no they took forever to deliver basic sandwiches, soup etc. The 'nachos' were very odd and not what would be expected. They obviously aren't prepared for tables bigger than 4 people. Shame as it's a nice little pub in the evenings but certainly not one for lunchtimes.

Over 50 pubs close a month because of a lack of customers/punters. You rarely get traditional pubs with a pool table good music and good vibes but the hollybush backs the trend. The land lady Alice and her partner Pete are truly incredible. Traditions of a pub originate to community, socialising and gathering. Guys keep up the good work

Absolutely beautiful gem of a place you won't be disappointed. Friendly professional and staff who are simply wonderful. Just had a delicious cheese and tomato sandwich with side salad. That was perfect. They have a good and varied menu but pleased they have traditional snacks as well. The garden area is beautiful and so peaceful too. Friendly locals and huge car park.
