Not been here for ten years won't be going back for a other ten Nice little country pub, food is not great

Once a month there is a Sunday Afternoon ‘Jazz Lunch’ here which we attended for the first time. For £25 pp we were entertained by John Hallam who plays Saxophone and clarinet with a different group/trio every month from 1pm - 3:30pm. We really enjoyed his music, and that of the drummer, Keyboard player and Cellist. I think they were called the Andrzej Trio! ( I’m sure I’ll be corrected if I’m wrong!) They were amazing on their own. We were able to choose anytime to eat, we both opted for the roast beef dinner which was a delicious and a plentiful meal, so much so that we could not face one of the delightful desserts for £4.00. There is a good selection of beers wine and spirits all reasonably priced from a bar in the room which is separate from the main pub. Booking is essential because there appears to be a following that attend this event every month , we were lucky to book a table for two, several days beforehand. Payment for the Sunday lunch is also required in advance and there are several meal choices which cater all. The serving staff were very helpful and polite, weaving in between the tables and chairs as quickly as possible to serve meals. They also have a raffle and I was lucky enough to win a nice bottle of wine. Brilliant entertainment and food at a great price, will definitely be back to listen to more Sunday Jazz

Took my son for a late birthday meal and was not disappointed. The Lasagne was absolutely delicious, piping hot and full of flavour. My son loved his cajun burger and REAL home cooked chips. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit.

We booked a table as we have been here many times in the past and it's a nice drive out. Was very disappointing to be honest. Food had no flavour and was poor quality. The staff were nice enough but won't be calling here again sorry

Starters was crispy chicken,it was so dry, barely any chicken in the coating. Mains was a carbonara with bacon - 1 tiny piece of bacon & the rest just pasta, the other was chicken with peppercorn sauce, barely any chicken, and the bit there was like what you can get for a cheap sandwich filler, sauce was as runny as water, veg when it arrived was undercooked. Didn't bother with dessert just wanted to leave. No atmosphere anymore either, very sad as used to be lovely. The waitress was nice but sadly will not be visiting unless things improve.

Great meal here. First time for us. Some renovation - place a bit tired but good great.

We visited this pub twice recently. First time the food was so good that we decided to come back the week after. We had the 2 course meal made of pie and freshly cut chips and a really sublime lemon cheesecake and a parsnip soup with toasted ciabatta for the first time . The second time partner had a burger which was thick, juicy and well cooked with a starter of mushrooms in creamy sauce, I had the salt and pepper squids with cauliflower soup that was super delicious and we had ,to conclude, again taken the cheesecake as we couldn’t stop thinking about it for the whole week 🤭. To sum um: food is lovely, portions are massive and it seems to be fresh from farmers and butchers, atmosphere is great not too busy and very friendly staff, pub is very clean and gives out a relaxing old fashioned farmhouse atmosphere. I’m not too sure why the bad reviews but we will definitely visit again.

Me, my husband & daughter visited at the weekend. On first appearances was expecting great things….Service was ok but the food wasn’t great. I had soup which was vegetable but resembled baby food & was very bland. Main was steak pie served with 9 chips which tasted of old chip oil, homemade mushy peas which I think was just squashed garden peas with added water. My daughter’s meal was inedible, she had a burger which was burnt & mash that could’ve hung wallpaper. Hubby said his was ok but he was hungover so would’ve eaten anything 🫣 wasn’t cheap either, we wouldn’t go back

Called for lunch today, 31/1/24.My wife ordered a cheese toast on a baton, arrived with chips and salad. She took one bite and the "toasted" baton was and contents were cold, chips overcooked, total meal returned . I had the fish and chips lunch time menu, chips warm, fish the size o a fish finger, appalling. Cancelled the dessert order. The manager/ chef, I use that term loosely, never even came to apologies. Front of house were no better. One to avoid John Newton le Willows

Visited this venue last Sunday. 7 persons all eating from the 2 course Sunday menu. 6 members of our group were OK with what they had, I on the other hand, was not pleased with the main course of battered fish etc. The batter on the fish was inedible and I pointed this out to the waitress. The cost was deducted from the bill but there was no apology at all. On our way out we had to pass a lady whom I took to be the owner or manager and had she made some comment regarding the dish not being satisfactory I would not be making these comments. Would be reluctant to visit this establishment again.

Excellent service and very nice atmosphere. Not a lot of flavour in my beef stroganoff. Bread & butter pudding slightly overcooked and heavy.

Great local pub with cask beers and good traditional pub food. Has a real fire and is a good location for local walks up harrock Hill.

Teenagers appeared to be in charge on their own. Ordered drinks without ice - came with ice - twice. 4 of us ordered dishes which had egg and Hollandaise on top. Mine (fishcake) had a drizzle of tartare sauce on plate, but NO egg or Hollandaise. I returned it and received no apology. When I received it back, the salad and fishcake had been transferred to a new plate (the salad still had tartare sauce on) - but at least I had egg and Hollandaise. Still no apology. However, all 4 dishes had barely a teaspoon of hollandaise on. Extremely disappointing. Several of us ordered beef stroganoff for our main course - it was ok, but definitely NOT stroganoff 😞 Very very disappointing. Baffled at other people’s reviews - however they do appear to be mainly from 1+ year ago. We live locally and will not be returning in a hurry.

It’s a long time since we’ve been here & have always enjoyed our food. Although it was Sunday lunch time we hadn’t booked but we were quickly offered a table for two & offered the menu. We decided to go for the cannon of lamb in a mint jus with sides of seasonal vegetables & boiled & roast potatoes (in Rosemary & garlic) & a Yorkshire pudding. Our only complaint was the size of the portions (the cannon was actually a lamb shank). The Yorkshire pudding was massive. The jus/gravy wasn’t really enough though (could have asked for more) to cover the lamb or fill the pudding. Am glad we didn’t have a starter or a sweet as we couldn’t finish our meal as we felt ‘stuffed’ ! The staff were attentive & pleasant & despite being busy we didn’t have long to wait for our meal. I was surprised at the change in decor (though toilets were unchanged)! The level of cleanliness wasn’t brilliant (our table was quite sticky & I do think it’s become a bit scruffy looking

Been many times but our recent visit left us very disappointed. Service was very slow and the food was not up to the usual standard.

Visited this place with friends for lunch not very happy with the service, food not the best ( POOR). Had to wait for every course so won't be going back anytime soon.

We called in at lunchtime. Not many people in. Had to wait ages to order our food and then had to wait ages for the food to be served. When the food came it was terrible, soup with a skin an inch thick which was sent back, half cooked children’s pizza which was basically crusty bread with cheese dolloped on it and a vegetarian lasagna that was sloppy and burnt about an inch wide and 3 inches long in the centre of the dish, swimming in burnt cheese. This place has really gone downhill and we won’t be going back again.

Really baffled how this place has so many five stars. Decided to visit as we live local and have read the good reviews. Booked a Friday night on a hot day. Outside looking very tired, full of serious drinkers in beer garden. Inside absolutely stank of chemicals and bleach, very of putting when coming for a meal. Inside has zero atmosphere, everything looking like it's falling to bits. Menus dirty and sticky, ridiculous sized menu always a bad sign. Food that was coming out looked average at best .. decided not to waste our evening in this dump and luckily managed to get a reservation in another place not far away.. definitely will not be returning

Excellent lunch time menu to suit all. Traditional Sunday lunch served on Sundays. Have been here several times. Most covid precautions still in place as at Sept.2021, well ventilated and notcrowded. Good for families, can also eat outside. Childrens play area too. Fathers Day 2023, excellent lunch, the perfect place to be.💕

I’ve never had such awful food, chef was obviously miffed we arrived 10 mins before last orders. 3 out the four of us have had upset stomach yet all meals different . My food was cold ( not their fault my late arrival) I had to get attention of waitress and ask could they heat up, told kitchen closed ( before 8pm) just awful ! I had a steak that although was pink inside the outer area burnt to leather, not the most difficult of dishes. Really really bad, so sad as is my local , we were hoping to make it a regular Friday treat. Cost £85 for 3 soft drinks 1 beer and 4 main meals. Fair had the food been edible, cats enjoyed.

On Sunday 14th May (after originally being planned for Feb then postponed at the last minute following the Birthday Girl being involved in a horrific car accident) we held my Mums 80th Birthday party in the function room at The Farmers Arms. Nicola and her team provided a warm welcome and went above and beyond in helping us celebrate mum's 80th. A hot buffet lunch (all gluten free at our request) for almost 50 people was served and everyone had their fill - some of our 'younger' guests visiting the buffet 2 and 3 times! - the bar service was prompt and professional. Plates and a knife provided for us to cut and serve the cake and a pleasant garden/ outside area was enjoyed by the youngest guests. We held Mum's 60th birthday party in the same location 20 years ago and that was similarly succesful so despite changes of management/ ownership since then The Farmers was a great choice again. Highly recommended.

Nice place and the food was good

Called in for a meal my partner had 8oz gammon I had steak and chicken in a pepper sauce with chips. Gammon was very small for the price, my meal was only ok chicken was soft but rump strips were like shoe leather very chewy only about 10 chips with a surcharge of £5 I think it's not value for money, very disappointed with the cleanliness of the gents toilets it needs a deep clean seems it's not been cleaned for a while, very sad as it could be a good pub with a lot of attention to detail

Wonderful pub. Great service. Great food. We stumbled upon this little gem a few months ago after a weekend drive and we’ve been back a few times since despite it being quite a distance away. It’s very traditional and doesn’t have booming music, you can actually hear pub conversations taking place which is refreshing. Very clean and the food arrives hot and is really tasty. Very good value for money.

This place never fails! Traditional and welcoming friendly pub. The value for money and the food they produce is simply exceptional! Would highly recommend this place for anyone who wants a lovely meal with family or friends!

Friendly, helpful staff, lovely food :) Went here again on the 05.11.22 with a friend and we both had the salt and pepper chicken on a baguette, shared a bowl of chips. It was delicious. Would highly recommend 👌

The Function Room which we visited for a funeral reception was very nice and the food was excellent. They served a lovely buffet including 2 hot meals. I can't speak for the pub side of the business.

Had 3 courses for 20 pounds ...wasn't expecting too much and I'm very happy to say I was wrong ....food was excellent well cooked and well presented and good portion sizes too,service was excellent . All staff were very friendly and chatty . Lovely pub that has kept some if it's old world charm. We will certainly be back .

I walked into the bar to ask for a menu and ask for a couple of shandies. The Very slow and inefficient barmaid spent her time producing drinks for two obviously regulars. They continually ordered extra drinks and shots and I was ignored. Then another customer came in and was told to wait while the slomo barperson went to tye another end of the bar to serve somebody else after waiting for between 10 and 15 minutes and being totally ignored I left and we drove home. I used to like this place but now I will never return

Well organised trail run from the farmers Arms and staff handled the large numbers well.

11 family members aged between almost 4 and 76 no complaints from anyone, wonderful. Terrific service from Nicky and her quick and pleasant front of house staff. Food arrived quickly and thumbs up for Jen and her kitchen staff in the quality and presentation of food for a larger number of customers in one hit. Ps. Good beer as well!

We have been here a few times the pub it’s self is beautifully maintained inside and out the food on the last few occasions hasn’t really been anything special I feel there is better quality and within the area quite pricey to be fair we went a few days ago for our last time had fish and chips very greasy chips had been warm ups and mushy peas dried out we did complain to the old waitress but yet she never returned to our table try it for yourself but not for us.

Portion sizes were reasonable, but I found my chicken and mushroom stroganoff to be rather bland, even after adding salt. Enjoyed the bread and butter pudding though, not too sweet, so just the way I like it.

Meal was ok-ish. Standard menu for the xmas period. Was more interested in seeing that it was a dog friendly pub. That....I loved!

Excellent lunchtime sandwiches, great value for money and brilliant service. It's off the beaten track a little bit but well worth seeking out. We followed the heritage sign from the main road on a whim - very pleased we did so. Wish we lived nearer.

I arrived at 3pm. I asked if there was any availability for 5 people. The owner kindly put 2 tables together for me for our party of 5. We had a half an hour wait for food as it was busy but it was well worth the wait. The food arrived piping hot and presented very well on the plate. The owner made us feel welcome and asked us if we had enjoyed our meals. The food was amazing we couldn't fault it. The owner and bar staff were friendly and accommodating. We will definitely visit again.

Dropped in for a pint and a half with hubby on our way back home from the marina. Nice atmosphere, reasonable beer. Menu looked Ace for Christmas, planning on stopping over there again, this time for a meal as well.

Excellent Jazz Lunch once again. Food was fantastic and perfectly cooked, service was great and the music outstanding. Would definitely recommend, but booking is required as it gets quickly booked up.

I ordered a Chicken curry that arrived as a vegetable one and tasted of nothing but tomatoes , Informed the waitress who went to speak with the chef and informed me he would cook me some Chicken curry .... This arrived on it's own and tasted of nothing but tomatoes and Charcoal . I left this and told the waitress it was the worst curry i have ever had and it was too tomato based with no curry flavour. The waitress said Oh , ok and took the dishes away . When i went to pay there was no apology and charged full price .... Terrible service , food and manners .... Will not be going back !!!!!

This is a welcoming pub with excellent service, food and drinks at heart. The food is incredible and the service is second to none. A family of 10+ had incredible company, meals, drinks and most importantly outstanding service!

I tried to make a booking at the restaurant several times during one day. My calls were neither answered nor returned and so we went elsewhere!

Very disappointed they stopped serving food at 2pm, travelled over 20 miles to be told at 2.15 there was no food, i have been many times, now it must be new owners very disappointed

Called in for an evening meal as we were in the area. Pub doesn't look much from the outside but makes up for it on the food side. Everything about our food was quality and fresh with large portion sizes. Really can't fault anything and the service was exceptional. Will be back again soon thats for sure!

Found this pub on the way home fro Lytham Omg food is absolutely beautiful And a great price Lovely calm ambience Well worth coming again We live 50 minutes away from here and would definitely travel back here for a meal Lovely staff Very clean toilets too

The food was great and the staff made us feel welcome. They do have a good range of food and drinks for sale. They also do live music afternoons and nights at a good price.

We stopped here for lunch on way to Wrightingtin Hospital. First of all - wonderful rural location, with plenty of outdoor seating.Really friendly and warm greeting, and we we really well looked after by our server. The food was great - I had a burger and chips which was great and had tons of chips which even defeated me. The homemade soup was excellent, as were the steak sandwiches.The whole experience was so good, and we'd definitely have lunch here again next time we're in the area.

We had such a fantastic day! We’d been waiting for a family get together for nearly two years and The Farmer’s Arms certainly provided the perfect atmosphere. Every single person complimented the food. We had a warm selection of food which was really tasty and freshly prepared. Also, the portion size was ample. To finish the meal, we ordered desserts which went down a treat! The function room is beautiful and the staff really can’t do enough for you.I would definitely recommend this venue for a special family day. Thank you to everyone who contributed to my little boy’s special day xx

Hannah is a super star manager who made us feel extremely welcome. We brought a couple of four legged friends after an amazing walking around Fairy Glen and the food was amazing. The service was top notch - a really cracking dog friendly pub. We hope to return soon!

Great location shame last food order at 2000hrs great motorhome stop

Staff are moody, unpleasant, only care about taking your money and dont care about the quality of your food. I got shouted at because i asked to take my food home in a take out box, also got abuse for saying the chicken was uncooked. Prices are also through the roof, i payed £8 for 4 chicken strips that were uncooked.

Large pub with outside seating area + kids play area. Pleasant interior + dining area. Friendly staff very helpful 🙂. Me and my husband had a great meal + drinks. Would definitely recommend
