Beautiful building, excellent service, food, ambience and view from the conservatory. Food very good value for the quality. Staff friendly, no problem for us to turn up in biker gear. Sunday lunch looked excellent and I will be coming back with my wife. Really appreciate quality establishments like this without any snobbishness or pretentiousness from staff. Highly recommended.

Dined here whilst staying over for a long weekend. We had eaten out in Lampeter the night before at the local Chinese but my meal was ruined by having had a heavy lunch earlier that day. So as not to make the same mistake I kept things light with a garlic bread starter and Welsh rarebit main. The food was good and very good service from the young waitress.

We were staying about 25 mins away from Lampeter and decided to head to the town for some dinner with our 5 year old after a full day out. We couldn’t find anywhere open with anything that would cater for us and our different tastes. Fortunately I had seen the hotel sign and figured it would be open! We were delighted to find this beautiful hotel perched on the side of a hill after driving up the driveway to it. The outside reminded me of an Agatha Christie novel and had a historical charm. The welcome was warm and the staff really couldn’t have been more lovely and welcoming, especially with our child. We sat in the conservatory and had some pre dinner drinks and a gorgeous view despite it being a bit of a drizzly day. The food was absolutely delicious and freshly prepared. Our son had fish goujons and they had a beautiful crispy batter. I chose the tuna sashimi to start which was gone in a flash it was so nice, followed by Welsh lamb which was also a winner!! We left with smiles on our faces and we will definitely return here next time we are in the area!

This review is in respect of the restaurant only. We were visiting the area, staying in a local cottage and it was a real struggle to find an upmarket gastro pub or restaurant serving Welsh classic food. The Falcondale seemed to be a hit. Unfortunately, it wasn’t for us. Both of us ordered Welsh Rarebit to start at £8pp. We know it’s cheese on toast, but what we didn’t expect was thin sliced Tesco Value white bread and some Cathedral City on top. I’ve had better Rarebit in England! My Sirloin steak was very generous and cooked well with the peppercorn accompaniment, but the chips were undercooked and hard inside. I think they were cooked from frozen. Sea Bass was what my partner chose and although a nice fillet, it was incredibly salty and the vegetables with had soaked it up too making them inedible. A shame, as the building and grounds are very picturesque and well kept.

Had an excellent afternoon tea at the Falcondale on Easter Monday. Went with family and the two children had the kids afternoon tea which was ample for them - aged 11 and 15. Food was fresh - including excellent sausage rolls and freshly made sandwiches. Scones were very nice and still warm - served with plenty of clotted cream and strawberry jam! Lovely setting and we had the whole restaurant to ourselves as it was very quiet that day. Hope to return again when visiting family in Lampeter.

Friendly staff. Nice decor in bar area. Nice grounds, plenty of parking. Restaurant area lacked personality and as we were the only people in there for most of our lunch there was a distinct lack of ambience. Could do with making this room feel more homely maybe? We used a Buy a gift voucher that we had been gifted for the three course set menu at lunch time. The food was nice but portion sizes very small. Staff should have pointed out that the main of lamb (which was cooked well) only came with a couple of mange tout and small slice of dauphinoise as we would have ordered more vegetables. Starts were also small, thank goodness for the bread roll that arrived. Puddings were good. Drinks expensive. We will return to sample the bar menu which looked very good with other guests.

We've dined at The Falcondale Restaurant a number of times over the years, and again this weekend for two evening meals and an afternoon tea: not to mention the cooked Welsh breakfasts each day.Let's just say I've always been impressed with this restaurant and nothing has changed that view at all. From the perfectly cooked and wonderfully flavoursome Fillet steak to my wife's Salmon and king prawn linguini. The food was beautifully prepared and delicately presented. It's all extremely good fare, and as you would expect from a two AA Rosette restaurant. Honestly, I've had food in Michelin starred restaurants that was not as good as this. The other standout for us was the afternoon tea. You have a choice of sweet or savoury, but either way we had an excellent experience with delicious flavours from start to finish. The little Salted toffee éclair/profiterole is awesome and very moreish. I should also mention the excellent breakfast which clearly uses some lovely ingredients, cooked any way you wish. It's a nice place to eat great food, the service was very good and with two menus to select from (one which is altered daily) you can choose three courses for £34 or mix and match. It's fantastic value, but maybe the afternoon tea at £19 a head is the real bargain. I've had worse in London for £60 a head!Definitely a great destination restaurant and I'd be using this place a lot if it were on my doorstep.

Came for an ‘afternoon tea’, not knowing what to expect as we only moved to the area as Covid started. The tea was a present from my wife’s former colleagues and this was the closest venue. We have been blown away, by the standard of the food. As a chef of many years it’s instantly obvious that the food is made on site and stand out was the scone, which if it wasn’t the best I’ve ever eaten over the years, it’s up there with it!The service was polite, attentive and friendly! Can’t fault anything! We asked for the menus, to see what they offered and we will be back to try an evening meal.

My wife and I have celebrated our wedding anniversary by having Afternoon Tea at The Falcondale for the past six years (excluding last year when it was closed during lockdown). It has always been amazing, and something really special. This year it was a real disappointment. The size and variety of the serving was about half of what we have previously experienced. Frankly, paying £19 for four finger sandwiches on supermarket bread, five very average assorted savouries and a pot of tea is very poor value, even taking into account that this is a 'luxury venue'.We won't be returning.

The fantastic reviews motivated me to book a meal at the Falcondale for my wife's birthday. As we are new to the area and I wanted it to be a special evening the reviews and the fact they have one of the most expensive restaurants in the area convinced me it was going to be very good. But it was far from very good, it was bitterly disappointing! This was our experience. I messaged them in advance to let them know I was booking the table for my wife's birthday. You would think a quality restaurant with great 5* reviews and excellent service reviews would have made a note of my message. Then that message would have motivated them to at least welcome my wife with a good evening happy birthday greeting? No, not even a mention of her birthday or even a warm greeting was given on arrival! In fact the only reply I got from my original message regarding our visit and my wife's birthday was an email confirmation saying: You will be seated in the restaurant. Considering I booked a table in the restaurant you can imagine my surprise! Where did they think I thought we were going to eat dinner? The food was very expensive as expected, but poor quality and cold which was not expected! The dinner menu was totally unimaginative, so we ordered from the main menu which was more like bar food at excessive prices (£30 for a not very nice steak, a few soggy chips, half a tomato and a few small mushrooms)! The dining area has no atmosphere or ambiance at all, with dated furnishings. The restaurant service was far from attentive. I sent my meal back as it was lukewarm actually nearer to cold. My wife's meal was the same but she did not want to make an issue as it was deadly quiet in the restaurant and she was getting embarrassed by the situation. My meal was returned within minutes steaming hot, so must have been microwaved. But the reheat of the food did nothing to improve it. We declined to order a dessert after the meal, I wonder why? Then not so much as a, did you enjoy the meal, is there anything else we can get you, or anything else come to that just silence until I asked if it would be ok to leave the restaurant to return to the lounge to finish our drinks. Answer one word, Yes! To be fair to the barman he was the only person working that we had contact with that was helpful and pleasant.

Booked dinner for a Monday evening. Excellent choices of both starters and mains. We ordered the ham terrine and fish cakes for starters and sirloin steak(+ peppercorn sauce) and duck breast for mains. All the food was excellent, but........everything seemed to be over seasoned. The peppercorn sauce was really salty, which then had to be scraped off the steak, which I might add was cooked to perfection, and the dauphinoise potatoes had way to much rosemary added. Apart from those 2 gripes I would highly recommend The Falcondale both for it's setting and food.

A perfect location to celebrate Santes Dwynwen as we had our wedding reception here over twenty years ago.Eating here is very exclusive and a fantastic place to have a relaxing evening in Lampeter. Therefore, the Steak and Wine Night was a real treat for both of us.Just twenty pounds each for a sirloin steak, hand-cut chips, fried tomato and mushroon with a 175ml glass of wine, and the steak was perfectly cooked. OK, we ordered extras like Peppercorn sauce £2.00 and Seasonal Vegetables £3.50. Desserts were £8.50. Although, a bit expensive it was delicious, freshly made and well presented. Along with drinks before and after the meal. A perfect pint of Tetley’s Smooth £4.10 and Gordons gin and tonic £5.40. Not bad at all for such a nice place.Welsh speaking staff members. My husband and I visited this hotel on the 18th June, 2019, for a pre-booked afternoon tea. Upon arrival, the main entrance to the Hotel was unavailable, due to workmen carrying out work to the driveway. After parking, we followed signs in order to gain access to the Hotel, these signs took us down a hill, through a muddy gateway into the gardens of the Hotel, where we had to walk up a steep grassy slope, in the rain, to gain access. When we entered the Hotel, no apology was given for the disruption and we were shown to an empty dining room at the back of the Hotel, so we would not hear the workmen working. My husband and I are both seniors and quite honestly this event ruined the afternoon tea we had been looking forward to. I really think the staff could have advised us of this situation prior to attendance as to be honest, for us, it was quite unacceptable and to make matters worse, after our tea we had to walk back to the car park via the same steep grassy slope in even heavier rain. For the high standard this Hotel offers, they certainly let themselves down on this occasion!

My main was the duck which was excellent, however the potato portion was 3 x 1 x 1 inches and I had 3 inches of carrot cut in half at a jaunty angle - they were the only vegetables I had!! It's appreciated that overheads for running a large country house will inevitably be reflected in pricing, meaning the cooking really has to deliver to ensure it's still value. So it was a little disappointing to be served with seriously undercooked carrots and that duck breast was oddly matched with a beef flavoured jus.The simple truth is that there are other restaurants serving better, less pricy food. But service was good and friendly and in nice surroundings.

Although lunches were still being served in the restaurant, we were greeted warmly, and given the choice of waiting for tea, or having it sooner, plus the choice of sitting in the restaurant, the lounge or outside. Normally I would choose outside (especially with such stunning views), but it was a boiling hot day, we'd spent a couple of hours in a very hot sports hall for the graduation, so we plumped for the cool of the lounge.

We were taken here for lunch by two friends who visit this establishment on a regular basis. The food was nothing less than excellent, and the service was friendly and efficient too. Would have no hesitation in recommending and would certainly go again if we were ever in the area.

The restaurant is area is large but not too many tables. The food is high quality and the excellent chef is clever enough to let the ingredients speak for themselves. My son and I had the duck and agreed it was the best we'd had in a very long while. Always beautifully presented, by friendly yet knowledgable people with a decent wine list if you want that. We're going for the tasting menu next time!

Good welcome from Meleri at front of house on arrival for lunch. We ordered from the "Light bites/lunch menu" beetroot gravadlax and veg soup as starters, the bread served was certainly not memorable for it's flavour only for its dryness. The mains of duck was acceptable but looked dull and bland, but did have a little flavour. The other main was a seafood platter which was even more disappointing, It was served on a rotating platter which presented a tough and dry piece of monkfish, warm cockles, whitebait and smoked salmon, accompanied with two spoon-fulls of relish and two slices of dry bread. I realise that fish delivery can be hit and miss, but surely the chef can can do much better with his presentation and interpretation of a sea food platter even if he has to resort to the freezer! The dining room service was extremely slow and then a glib comment from the waiter when I complained about the delay. suggested that the chefs had "gone fishing" This particular dish was priced at £17 and the soup was £7.50. Our total bill for two courses was £53 inc. drinks. We have eaten lunch here before and enjoyed the experience, today was a total letdown by the hotel to its customers.

I visited with Clwb 41 Llanbedr Pont Steffan / Lampeter 41 Club for our October Dinner Meeting. We'd booked the restaurant for the evening and had a delicious three course meal accompanied with red and white wines. I enjoyed a filling starter of homemade vegetable soup with fresh rolls and butter. For the main course, I had roast chicken in a mushroom white sauce with a selection of fresh vegetables. Their homemade chocolate brownie with ice cream for dessert was a fitting end to an excellent meal. Diolch yn fawr iawn / Thank you all at the Falcondale again for your warm welcome, excellent service and for another scrumptious dinner. Ardderchog, looking forward to my next visit to this popular hotel and restaurant.

As a family we have twice experienced fine dining at the Falcondale restaurant. Firstly for our sons 21st birthday celebration and secondly for his graduation celebration. On both occasions the food was outstanding and the service excellent. We also particularly enjoyed having pre drinks in the lounge and walking around the garden area. The atmosphere was very conducive to relaxing occasion.

Had a lovely afternoon tea here. Staff were very attentive. Tea was fresh and hot, and the afternoon tea itself was enormous - sandwiches, sausage roll, followed by Panna Cotta and a selection of beautiful cakes, made by the chef.Certainly needed no supper after such a brilliant tea !!!

In the area we called in on the off chance for lunch - decided to pick what we thought would be simple - a couple of sharing platters. There were other diners but honestly not that many. We waited over 40 minutes for our platters to arrive and though generous they were not as we expected, no cheese for instance.Lovely surroundings and staff pleasant.

We stayed the weekend and enjoyed the 7 course taster menu on the first evening. It was excellent, I now have a craving for the Butternut squash risotto, which I simply could not get enough of - even though, I have to say, that I was surprised at the size of the 7 course plates, as they were plentiful.I really enjoyed the food and look forward to a return.

I brought my friend here for a surprise afternoon tea in April. It was absolutely delicious. 100% improved from the previous time I had afternoon tea there in early 2016. The cakes were so yummy. Large round shortbread, crunchy and buttery. Still warm scones with sweet cream and jam. Rich chocolate brownie bite, fresh welsh cakes and bara brith. And a large slice of Victoria sponge. The choice of both tea and coffee. The sandwiches were tasty too... Ham and mustard, beef and horseradish, cheese and pickle and a salmon one. To top it off I also booked her a suprise massage and Gel Polish with Julie in the new beauty room. She had such a fantastic day and experience.

We live locally so didn't stay here but took visiting friends here for a meal. They are London foodies so we wanted to impress - and the Falcondale didn't fail us. The restaurant was not busy for a Saturday night but people here tend not to eat in hotels. The bar man was very helpful, giving a taster of a local gin we were unfamiliar with. The food couldn't be faulted and the staff were quick and efficient. Our only complaint was the table decoration - large and intrusive so we had to move it so we could see each other. Fresh flowers or greenery would be an improvement. It was pricey but worth it.

We booked a meal for the evening of Mothers Day as a treat. We should have picked up the warning when the menu was being reprinted on our arrival. To be fair the front of house staff were lovely and helpful but the meal itself was a let down. Amongst the starters was Crispy pigs head with black pudding. I was fascinated What I got was a hash brown sized bit of pulled pork in a coating with some miniscule sized black pudding cooked to a crisp. The only creature that would have enjoyed it would have been my dog. For the mains I had cod which was good but my daughter had a cut of John Dory which was so small as to struggle to be a starter. My wife asked for medium rare steak which was OK after it had been returned for further cooking but my mother was presented with a cut of lamb that was still undercooked after it had been returned. She could not eat it. We each tried it and all found it to be substandard and containing gristle. I dont mind paying premium rates for special meals but this was insultingly bad It has been a while since I have dined here. It will be a great deal longer before I do it again

We have frequented the Falcondale for Sunday lunch for quite a few years and believed it to be the best in the area for the meal and ambience. It was always busy and our teenage daughters loved the 'sweet table'. When we went a couple of weeks ago we were disappointed in the menu and struggled to choose a starter and main course. The waitress informed us that the owners are aiming for fine dining and had made the changes to the Sunday option. The food and presentation was very good but it had always been very good! It seems that the current food regime is not supported locally as the restaurants was empty with only six diners including ourselves whereas in the past both dining rooms would have been full with satisfied customers enjoying coffee and petit fours in the conservatory and the next 'sitting' relaxing in the bar. Overall a disappointing lunch, not because of a lack of quality but because the owners have aimed for something that the previously happy customers don't support. Are the customers always right? Not sure in this case!

We called for lunch yesterday (Thursday) and were looked after well. We ordered from the daily lunch menu of parsnip and honey soup which was very nice. Our mains consisted of belly pork and another dish of the day brill with curried lentils. Whilst the pork and fish were beautifully cooked the curried lentils were so overpowering that the delicate taste of the fish was totally lost along with my tongue!. I am of the opinion that a small bowl of fresh veg/salad served in addition, could have saved my palate! The panna cotta and coffee certainly saved the day. Perhaps I just chose the wrong dish. The total cost including drinks was £57 (drinks £7.50)

It says a lot that the excellent chef was readily willing to adjust his normally complex creations to accommodate my wife's request for absolutely plain food free of any sauces or dressing. My own food was of such a high quality that it would have been foolish to eat elsewhere......and the accompanying fine wines added to the overall experience.

We were not expecting the quality of the meals but we were very pleasantly surprised The small but high quality menu was a tastebuds sensationThe wines which we had by the glass were both good value for money and a real treat especially the Picpool de pinet which was fantastic with the seafood and sea bassThe aged sirloin and duo of pigeon were also perfectly matched by the cote de rhone and again beautifully cookedAll in all a great find would come back again without hesitation

As guests of the hotel, we decided to stay in and try the restaurant. My husband read that the restaurant had received 2AA rosettes-matching a couple of our local restaurants. Therefore, we expected slightly higher prices but excellent cuisine. The restaurant itself, is set off the main reception within the hotel and offers diners a charming environment that overlooks a valley. Tables weren't on top of one another, but I noted there wasn't any music playing so conversations among diners could be easily overheard. The restaurant appear to be popular with some of the locals, as several diners were not hotel residents. For our main, I decided upon pork and my husband opted for steak, cooked medium rare. To savour the taste of the meal, I always opt for water at the table instead of wine. To my disappointment, every last item on my plate was over-salted and had very little original flavours coming through. I even thought my tastebuds were off but husband checked and confirmed. His steak was also very salty and both our main courses were endured not enjoyed. All in all nothing positive could be said of either dish but the table water came in handy! Dessert was better but you can't really go wrong with cheese & biscuits. A good and ample selection of local cheeses and biscuits. The staff were very attentive, polite and professional and are the sole for this 2 star rating. We're we staying at the hotel again we would drive into Lampeter for a meal elsewhere. Unfortunate this restaurant is over-hyped and over-priced.

We would definitely recommend this hotel and can't wait for our return visit.
