Fantastic local pub. Food was amazing both times we went. Really friendly staff and locals!! Highly recommended!!

So sad. Once we found the opening times for the pub, we arranged our day around getting there for opening (4pm). A meal if food being served, and an evening of beers on the cards whilst camping in the village. Went for a nice long walk, checked at the shop and were told yes, Red Lion opens every day at 4pm. Rang the pub several times to also check, and got the answer phone, but that said ring back after 4pm. Arrived at 10 past 4 to a closed pub. Came back bit later, still closed. In that time saw two sets of cyclists also look, and move on disappointed. Rang pub again, still no answer. Such a disappointment. Went to the shop instead (lovely!) and bought supplies of beers and food. Rule number one in business, make your opening hours clear everywhere. Rule number two in business - stick to published opening times. Rule number three in business - if you have an emergency and can't open, at least try and find a way to communicate that to your customers.

Had the pleasure of staying here for a week while attending the Strata Florida Archaeology Field School. The room was large and clean, with a lovely view of the Cambrian mountains. Trevor and company were very friendly. The pub is the only one in town and became a go-to place for drinks.

Nice hotel and good value for money.

The food and drink were both excellent.

We (4 of us) turned up at this hotel without reservations for Sunday Lunch and OMG how lucky were we! Our lunch was the Best Sunday Dinner we ever had! If we lived closer we would come here to eat every week without a doubt! Thank you

Fantastic village pub. Myself and 2 friends stayed after a motorcycle tour. The food was really good. The breakfast in the morning was also. The pub is in the centre of the village around 14 miles inland from Aberystwyth. Busy little bar with a great selection of beers on draught. The rooms are really nice. Comfortable beds with en suite bathrooms. The couple who run the pub / restaurant are very friendly. Motorcycles were parked in carpark opposite but had cctv camera facing them so no issues. Highly recommended 👌 👍

We stayed the night at the Red Lion! Had dinner and breakfast prepared by Trev! Everything was delicious. Room was comfy and very accommodating to our dog Linus.

9 of us booked in for tea, fantastic food, highly recommend the full rack of ribs. Good live music fantastic atmosphere. Staff kept the beer flowing, jokingly spoke to the chef about an apple free crumble, lo and behold one turned up much to our amusement. Will definitely call in again.

Brilliant service vary friendly

A perfect location to explore the Welsh western coast and the Cambrian mountains. I stayed here for 3 nights. The room was very comfortable and quiet. The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. All were bi-lingual as were the locals I met. They were more than happy to help me learn how to pronounce some Welsh words and phrases. That was fun! The food is awesome! I recommend the Welsh lamb burger. Everything is freshly home-made by the owner. With a log fire, this is a classic olde-world pub - and is perfect! The fact that the locals frequent it and eat/drink there says a lot! I will return!! Thanks guys! Rob W

Called in for a drink on Christmas day. Great atmosphere.

UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT since Sept 2023. We stayed here during a multi day cycle. First impressions seemed good. But it went down hill from then. The pub had booked a live band. Played till 22:30, no point was this mentioned to us, in fact they put us in the room directly above the live band! I went to ask when they were stopping. I was told we can move you to the top floor. This helped a little but not much. The band stopped playing, the music continued via a loud jukebox. The shouting from inside the pub and outside continues till late keeping us awake. It was one of them nights I just wanted to get out of there. It was horrible. The pub is open until 2am I believe, so I suspect the jukebox will keep you awake! I have attached a video as evidence. The pub needs to decide if it wants to do accommodation or be a bar. It cannot do both. You have been warned!

Had a lovely meal for a birthday, food was excellent and really friendly welcoming staff.

A large group of us had Sunday lunch at the Red Lion yesterday and we were very pleasantly surprised! The new owners have not been there long and yet they seem to have nailed it! Good quality food, really well cooked, and great desert options too. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back again

Liv and Niel (the new owners) were lovely hosts, making our stay very enjoyable. It has a wide variety of customers, from visitors to the area, to very friendly locals. The room we stayed in was large and warm with a very comfortable super king size bed. The pub is a great venue with open fires and a good value menu. We would highly recommend this hotel/pub with easy access to Strata Florida and the surrounding sites

As well as being a fabulous pub that is back on track with excellent land lord and landlady, Neil and Liv . A lively vibrant happy place where you can get a great meal , atmosphere, and a warm welcome awaits. We were there last night for entertainment and then for Sunday lunch today . Large portions , fresh local produce cooked well and presented with attention to detail . Wide choice of courses and quality impressive . Went to the Red Lion pub to watch live music. The Bohemians were fantastic, local people who had the place rocking... Will definitely be there next time 💃Liv and Neil again put on a great show ❤️ xx

This is a lovely pub to visit can't say enough highly recommend the food is spectacular. Neil and liv are extremely friendly and Neil is a fantastic chef. It is a lovely small pub. If you're ever in the area book there for a meal. You'll find them on Facebook.

We went here for a drink (which turned into many) after dinner elsewhere as we were staying at the Black Lion (no longer a pub). The barman was super friendly, as were the lovely locals and we had a very entertaining evening! This pub is a proper old style locals pub so if you’re after a gastropub, go elsewhere. But if you want a bit of chat and a friendly night out, you’ll be right at home 😁 Not sure if they serve food….

We visited on a busy Eisteddfod Bont weekend. We were told that it was under new management. The bar service was good and I enjoyed a great pint of Creamflow. Diolch.

Excellent home cooked food! Booked a table for 7 with no issues. Staff were attentive…….large selection on the menu and all reasonable prices. Food arrived promptly and portion sizes were large. Food tasty and obviously home cooked. Didn’t have room for desert but I’ll have one on my next visit 👍

Good and quiet place to stay. Easy to check in/out. Room is small for 2 people as we stayed in an attic but essential things were there and its clean.

Super friendly people and nice clean rooms. Veggie food is great as well! Would visit again.

Gepflegtes und sauberes Hotel mit großzügigem Zimmer. Wir waren drei Tage dort und genossen die Gastfreundschaft eines sehr freundlichen und engagierten Personal, was trotz hohem Krankenstand rund um die Uhr für uns da war. Bravo und vielen lieben Dank!!! Trotzdem möchte ich einen Punkt für den fehlenden Fön und den defekten Fernseher abziehen.

Only popped in for a drink and to watch the football on TV.... very friendly and had a great time.

The full breakfast is a joke. Looks very tired in the bedrooms. Mattresses are very uncomfortable

Room was lovely and clean. Checking in was smooth even though we checked in at 9.30 pm. Good value for money.

Just had a good carvery, all the meat melted in the mouth and tasty, roast spuds a bit hard on the outside but tasty, Carling good and tanggey, bit nippey so food can go cold quick,🍦

this is a lovely pub lots of seating,friendly staff that make you feel comfortable,we went on a Sunday for the carvery,very tasty,locals are friendly also,well worth a visit.

We had a room with exposed beams,a very comfortable bed in a pub with a convivial atmosphere. The staff are friendly and helpful. Our breakfasts were very good. I recommend the Red Lion if you need to stop in this area.

Evening meal n breakfast great...staff good.. Single room was tired..dangerous smashed floor tiles in bathroom..weird shower curtain arrangement..dark bathroom..velux window above bed with no blind.. E mailed pub for check in details ..never had a reply.

Food was excellent, staff were very friendly only thing is that the beer garden in the back was a little bit dangerous with old cans on the grass and no fence to the river next to it.

Love to go back and stay again.

Very reasonable rates, nice food and good range of beers.

Ffion was an absolute gem couldn't do enough for us. It was pizza night and we ordered cajun chicken and couldn't feel out face for 10 minutes bed was comfy.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Lovely quiet location and the staff are all lovely, too.

This is my second visit to this establishment. The evening meal was really nice (I had Lasagne) and recommend it. The breakfast was very nice (I had the Full Welsh). The staff are extremely pleasant and helpful. Definitely recommend The Red Lion.

Warm and friendly interactions right from the call I made on route to say I'd be arriving later than expected and could I reserve a table for dinner? The room was modern, spacious, very comfortable and with good views. The dinner was excellent value, very tasty and with sensible portion sizes so there's room for dessert and no need for waste. We were just passing through but would like to return to explore the area more; we'll certainly try to stay here when we return.

Couldn't stay here as our car broke down a few hours away. The hotel was so good that even though it was on the same day they gave us a full refund. 5" customer service thanks so much!!

Ordered bbq ribs and after 20 minutes waitress came back saying they have none left also our drinks came ofter 30 minutes and was also wrong one as as I wanted cider and been given lager. 5start for food and 1 star for service

Very disappointed today. We visited the Red Lion but an hour and a half wait for food, we weren’t warned of this and got there at 5pm! So unexpected, dinner wasn’t great very bland and lacking in any flavour, we were really pleased with the variety though and choice of vegetarian! Staff were friendly when we could speak to them but were also in ‘normal clothing’ no different from customers so was hard to see who the staff were, the place is nice and a lovely setting but needs some work. Expensive for the quality of the meals and unacceptable wait times. It would also be nice that if someone passed out in the middle of the beer garden they were asked to leave? No water for the dog on a hot day even though we had asked. Disappointing overall but a nice setting and staff were friendly when you could find them, good variety of meals.

No breakfast on time gas finish on night cold room

Gutted! Turned away tonight after booking a table two days before. The table they offered was not accessible. My husband is disabled and could not sit at either table offered

No social distancing and the music from the bar went on till 3am. So no sleep. Other guests said they were cold in the top floor rooms. Breakfast was a poor meal.

Wales has a tradition of a Sunday carvery and we couldn't find anywhere else to go in this remote part of the country so we were glad that we were welcomed here, even though we had the unusual accent! Really enjoyed the carvery on our walk over to Strata Florida and it was great value for money too!

Albergo, ristorante, pub a Stata Florida nel Galles. Gradevole e rinnovata negli arredi la stanza, peccato che materasso e cuscino fossero vecchi e sfondati. Nel Pub sottostante si può cenare e sabato sera era animato da una ricca comunità locale. Ottimo come punto di appoggio per visitare l'interno del Galles

We spent a lovely weekend here in March 19 with our son & 1 yr old puppy. The landlord & regulars alike were very friendly chatty & helpful. We never took our puppy into the bar because she likes to much attention it we kept getting told we could. The food was fresh & good size portions & they offered a lovely breakfast also which set you up for a day of walking around wales & was very good value for money(the breakfast was included). We had 2 single beds & a double bed in a good sized room with tea, coffee & hot chocolate to drink. The location was just perfect for what we wanted to do & now we have another puppy we will definitely be taking her to wales soon & staying here again

We stayed here on the 26th and when we got up for breakfast on the 27th the whole pub area was locked and there were no staff around. We waited half an hour and it was clear we were not getting the breakfast we had paid for and there wasn't anyone around so we left. I have called and no one answers the phone and they have not responded to any of my messages. Do not stay here if you don't want to be ripped off!!

Stayed for one night on 8th Dec, we received a warm welcome and good check in. Room was very good value and our evening meal was good pub food, the locals made us feel very welcome and the breakfast was excellent. Would not hesitate to stay again.

We went to Wales for 2 nights and we visited the Red Lion pub for food. They had a great menu and the burgers were lovely. It was so cold but they had a fire on the go and we warmed up quickly. We will definitely return when we visit Wales again
