Just wish to thank the manager Richard, Chef and the restaurant team for making such a memorable event for my fiancé and his family. We have 16 of us and when I walked in to the upper floor of the restaurant, I was impressed with the experience. Firstly, the interior is newly renovated, charmingly designed with international standard. Love the modern floral wall paper, bold colour tiles and compliment with subtle soft colours. All tables, wall and chairs are well thought out and every corner of the restaurant is so Instagrammable. We were greeted by delicious starters, perfect temperature alcohol as they have 2 large wine chillers in the corner and any cocktail, beer are also well supported by the bar at the ground floor. Richard has helped arranged a long table that cater for 16, and there are still ample space for pre-dinner cocktail to mingle and enjoy our starter and drinks. Then we were so pampered and spoiled with sumptuous delectable entrée lamb (btw I don't favour lamb but this lamb is exceptional) and side dishes are just simply yummy yum... that we still talk about it until today. Then dinner ended with a delightful different types of Welsh cheeses and crackers that we all burrrp with satisfaction. Thank you Richard and team for the impeccable quality in both services and food. And love your menu card ... Highly recommended for small or large celebration at The Black Lion Hotel... he will never disappoint you.

Called in here during the course of our Llandudno to Tenby charity bike ride. A pub popular with the locals (and rightly so) but nevertheless we felt most welcome. The beer was bang on, and being late on a bank holiday evening, the town's restaurants were shut but the landlord offered to let us eat our takeaways in the bar. The landlord and a couple of the locals gave generous donations to our charity without us even asking. I'd love this to be my local

I walked around town looking for a place that might be showing American football and found the Black Lion with four other people in it. Ordered a beer from the bartender and sat to watch the game. 10 minutes later, without anyone’s request, they switched the game I was clearly watching to football. Someone at the bar muttered “about time,” and looked at me. Message received.

No volveremos.

Thought we might give Frank's, (upstairs in the Black Lion), a visit as we have heard good reports from some of our local friends. What a great meal! We had pate' and cawl for our starters. The pate was standard, and a decent sized portion, but the cawl was superb! Very very good. My wife had a locally sourced Welsh rib eye steak, which was cooked to absolute perfection, and came at less than half the price of the other upmarket, plastic steak and fish establishments in Aberaeron. I had the Steak and Ale pie, proper home made, with a real crust! Again, absolutely excellent. Puddings, at least half were homemade, and the two we had were excellent. What I don't understand TripAdvisor is why restrauntants with less reviews and only the same star rating are appearing higher up the rankings. Come on TripAdvisor, get your act together!!So, if you enjoy good honest homemade food, decent sized portions, served freshly cooked and piping hot, then there is just no downside to this cosy little restaurant.

We called into 'Franks' whilst we were staying in accommodation nearby, this place was recommended to us by the owners of the B & B we were staying at.The eatery is nothing fancy, just simple home cooked food, with everything made from scratch, NO packets, NO microwaving just decent, plentiful, tasty, flavoursome home cooked fayre.Lovely pleasant, well mannered staff, customer service is priority all round and after Frank had finished cooking he came into the dining room to ask if we had enjoyed our meal and to see if we were ok along with other diners.Just make sure you are very hungry before going to eat as you will need a good appetite, give it a try, you don't know what you are missing!!!!I just wish this place was nearer to home.

We chose this pub to eat in based on Tripadvisor reviews, and were not at all disappointed. Its a standard sort of local pub downstairs, so we bought our drinks and took them up. We hadn't booked, even though it was Saturday night, but Frank made us welcome. Its very homely, and Frank was doing it all that night - waiter, cook and bottlewasher! The menu offers a good choice, with a specials board too. A friend chose the meat pie, and there was the usual debate of whether it would be a casserole with a puff pastry topping -not a 'proper pie' at all! Oh no, not here - a real pie with base and crust, clearly home-made and delicious. We enjoyed our meal immensely, and Frank is quite a character. Highly recommended.

The restaurant is very much about home cooking, my friend and I both chose home made pies, cottage and cheese, onion and potato. Both were excellent, the veg that was served with the cottage pie was excellently cooked. These were large portions too, very reasonable prices too! We visited this Inn on a day out whilst staying near New Quay. We decided to have a good lunch and chose this Inn as it was just off the main road and seemed a little quieter. My 20 year old grandson is severely autistic and he can be misunderstood by some and so a crowded place isn't too good a choice. He is also very fussy with his food, he had ham and chips, a really good serving of quality ham and the chips looked perfect...they must have been as he ate everything. The portions are big but everything was far too tasty to leave. My daughter and I chose the fishcakes which were served with two dips, salad, peas and boiled potatoes. My daughter often has fishcakes when dining out and she said they were the best she'd ever tasted. Everything cooked to perfection and served by a very pleasant gentleman. We would definitely recommend.

We were not having a lot if luck finding a quality but reasonable priced place to eat whilst in town.By accident we came across the Black Lion pub situated in the square.Signs outside mentioned Franks Restaurant upstairs and seperate from the pub itself. We were welcomed by a friendly barman who pointed to the stairs.Once we were seated in this clean and airy room we were greeted by a smiling young lady who pointed out the Specials Menu and handed us the mzin menu. Then Frank introduced himself and told us that all produce is cooked fresh and meat for the homemade pies are sourced locally. He is also the chef as well as ownerI picked up on the whitebait starter as a real rarity nowdays and ordered that...my wife picked the homemade vegetable soup.On arrival my plate was full and the soup was overflowing with huge amounts of veg.Superb start. I chose chichen pie as main and carole chose steak and ail pie.Again huge amounts arrived with lots of thick cut brocoli carrots and cauliflower and peas with chips. I could have had boiled or jacket pots or mash.We were full to the brim afterward with Carole telling Frank it was the best ever pie she had ever tasted. With drinkd the whole evening came to £32. Found this place while my girlfriend and I were looking for somewhere to eat. We Have been to Aberaeron many times but I had never been there before. It had an extensive menu and specials board and the prices looked very reasonable compared to the other restaurants in the town. The restaurant is upstairs above the "old-ye world-ye" bar and lounge. The stairs are quite steep and I don't know if they have disabled access. The welcome from the owner and staff was very pleasant and the service was excellent. But the best part is the quality and freshness of the food. Beautifully prepared and cooked and tasted fantastic. A real gem of a find. I highly recommend this restaurant.

My boyfriend & I were travelling back from North Wales to the South yesterday, after a very stressful day at a family funeral. We decided to stop for a meal in Aberaeron, but after visiting a few places and reviewing their menus, nothing took our eye. Then we noticed a sign for the Black Lion Hotel, which was up a side street off the main road. Outside, they had boards with extensive basic menu choice, along with a 'specials' list. We had to go upstairs through the bar, and found a lovely little restaurant above. It wasn't very big, but decorated beautifully. Although most of the tables were already 'reserved', the owner/chef instructed the waitress that we could be seated. My boyfriend had the rib eye steak, which was cooked exactly as he requested, served with onions & mushrooms (which many places don't do any more), and the nicest chips he said he'd had in ages. I ordered the Carmarthen whole lobster off the specials board, which was served with new potatoes and a really tasty & crisp salad. It was absolutely fabulous and the best lobster I'd ever had anywhere. It was cooked & presented perfectly, and was reasonably priced. (I dislike having lobster priced by the weight in places too, as I can never tell how much it's going to be). There was a good choice of desserts too, but I couldn't indulge, as unfortunately I am on a diet. Both the owner & waitress were very chatty and friendly, and both ensured that everything was alright for us. There were a few tables with a couple of 'regulars' seated, as the owner even knew their foody likes and dislikes, which made me smile. It was such a lovely place, friendly with an excellent standard of food. My boyfriends' mother has a chalet in Woodlands, New Quay, which is only a few miles away, so we shall definitely be back, and will be encouraging others to visit the Black Lion too. You won't be disappointed. Thanks again. You cheered us up after what was a very difficult day for us xx

Tried the restaurant after reading trip advisor reviews and booked for a Sunday roast for five of us. my wife and one of our friends had the beef and both said it was tough. Another friend had the chicken which looked awful and, unlike her, she left most of it. I and another friend had the lamb which was okay but not great. The roast potatoes were hard inside and not overly cooked on the outside. On the good side the desserts were pretty decent. The only redeeming factor for me was the very friendly atmosphere because if not for that I'm afraid my review would have been a two and not a three.

Staying in Aberaeron this weekend we checked out tripadvisor for where we were going to eat on Saturday night - liked what was on here about the Black Lion, so strolled over and checked it out..... Looked ok outside ( bit unkempt, but ok) so phoned and booked a table for four. So glad we did and weren't put off by the look of the pub outside. Thru the bar and up the stairs we were greeted in a lovely, homely room. Very old fashioned, and all the better for it. Orders taken rapidly, food served amazingly rapidly and it was absolutely gorgeous. Obviously home made, the Welsh black beef and Welsh ale pie was stunning! Chips and very fresh veg accompanied. 3 of us had it and we were so glad we did, it was beautiful. My youngest son plumped for chicken curry and rice - again, delicious and unless I'm very much mistaken, homemade chutney with the popodoms - if it wasn't, it was the best I've ever tasted ( I had to try a bit! )We all had puddings and again, they were homemade and gorgeous.Everything was perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Frank's. It was a midweek evening and even though we were the only ones to begin with it soon was full! Frank was charming - he took our orders and then went to prepare them in the kitchen next door (adorable). The room felt a bit like sitting in someone's front room to start with, but as it filled up it felt more like a restaurant.First time in a long time that I've had proper British pub food that I've really enjoyed. And when we got the bill we were pleasantly surprised to see the value for money! This restaurant isn't ostentatious or exaggerated; very refreshing.Planning on returning. Having stayed there 16 years ago it has now been transformed into a modern but still homely pub. We had a meal there too. The sharing nachos were delicious, the burger huge and homemade although a little underdone for me as still a little pink in the middle so didn't eat it all. What did strike us was the cost especially for steak which we believed to be overpriced. Maybe it comes from some golden cow?

Food was good and tasty, but what was a birthday meal let down by them having lost our reservation with no appolgy. We had to wait over an hour only to be told we would have eat in the bar. Service erratic and hit and miss. Would not return.

The Falcondale has a good location with stunning views. The waiting staff were all very good, the choice of dinner menu was very limited and not 'a la carte'. Unfortunately the quality of the Welsh breakfast was very poor.

Food was ok but the only vegetarian option available was a fake chicken breast that was hanging around in the freezer. Previous reviews said that booking was essential but we were the only ones eating there at 7.30 on a Friday evening. It was early May so maybe they don’t get busy yet and the full menu wasn’t available. Not really what we were expecting from the previous rave reviews.
