New Celtic Restaurant in Ceredigion

Went in on the off chance and didn’t have to book. Staff great and food was lovely and big portions. I had faggots and chips and my daughter’s pizza was huge. Not bad prices too. Will definitely be back.

A prize every time for the seaside chip afficianado. Take away or sit down you will be satisfied with your experience and purchase. Lovely staff, quick service even in peak times and delicious food come rain or shineb all year round. No visit to Aberaeron should be considered complete without a few chips from the Celtic and they'll put as much salt and vinegar on as you like, you just have to ask.

The fish was very poor it is sliced so thin it looked like a steam roller had driven over it. The chips had a lot of black eye's not a patch on what it used to be

Great place to stop for food when traveling north or south. Service is always good, quick and the food is always fresh.

I have given New Celtic chip shop good reviews in the past as the harbour is normally a favourite spot. Very slow service today in the takeaway with mediocre food, soggy chips and very greasy fish.

The fish and chips are always tip top and the skillet of prawns is also a favourite.

Good food at Good prices, great for families

Visited 2/3/25 for a quick takeaway on our way home, have been many times before but this was the last time we will go here. was the worst fish and chips i have ever experienced. the chips for so greasy made me feel sick had lots of black bits of potato which were very hard, fish was cooked fine but the batter was soggy. my partner felt liek she was eating grit and did find a small black stone in the tray of chips.

We popped in around 6pm on a Friday evening for a quick meal. Friendly waiting staff found us a table. Everyone was very helpful and friendly, a nice selection of food and it was popular which is always a good sign! We had wonderful meals, very hearty and flavoursome. My chicken burger was very tasty and my wife’s fish and chips looked delicious and plentiful. We had room for desert and the cheesecakes were lovely. The kids meals were perfect too and for my son, who is a little fussy, had a bowl of custard made up. All in all a 5 out of 5 on service and food for our family meal.

I was so disappointed with my fish and chips lunch. The fish looked large on the plate but when I cut the batter off the fish itself was very thin. I thought the meal was very poor value for money.

I had the Turkey dinner and it was processed meat and microwaved, reheated mashed potatoes. It was absolutely disgusting! When I started to complain I was cut short and told, "Thanks for that. Goodbye". This restaurant has won awards. Why, I don't know. I'll never eat there again. They don't care though because They make all Their money from gullible, hungry tourists. What a let down!!..

Chips were a little underdone but in general not bad. Bit too expensive too

It's quality affordable food. Chips are cooked separately from everything else so they are vegan and gluten free.

We were looking around for a place to eat and settled on this place. The staff were all very friendly and answered any questions we had. Took our order and we didn’t need to wait long for food or drinks. Made a joke with our little boy which was well received. Food is a decent price and plenty of it. I usually stay away from lasagna as it’s never as good as home made but it was brilliant. Everyone enjoyed their food. We had fish and chips , toasted sandwiches and pizza as well. All came out hot, tasty and not much left. Would definitely come back next time we visit. Staff are lovely and the place itself is a lovely looking place. Dogs welcomed outside too which was fine by us. Well done all.

We come here every year during our summer holiday and the fish and chips are always fantastic. We can also recommend the curry with 'half and half' chips and rice. Friendly and efficient staff are always on hand to look after us. Very highly recommended.

Best fish and chips we have had, our grandkids ate everything, which is quite unusual. Very friendly and helpful staff, thoroughly recommend.

My daughter had something in her drink I took it back to get it changed from that moment we were treated differently to everyone else! The food was amazing the attitudes of the two female staff were disgusting we were the only table left with all our finished plates on it and the only table that had to ask for the bill. We always visit Wales we always visit this restaurant we won't be visiting again! Just to add the male member of staff was friendly helpful and very polite!

Aberaeron a bit over blessed with gastropubs on the upper middle of prices So good to find this Chipper with restaurant at the back Good menu with lots of choice priced between £8 to £13 Just had a refurb so a bit more like a Pub than chip shop Also serves Alcohol Would have nice views but the never ending harbour works put paid to that

Went to this restaurant twice while in Wales. A very warm welcome both times, taken to a nice clean table and order taken promptly and delivered within a reasonable waiting time. The food was very good, first time was cod and chips with mushy peas second time my husband had the hunters chicken and I had the bacon steak, very nicely cooked and I got two bacon steaks which I was surprised at, we really enjoyed our experience in a lovely clean restaurant with nice views out the back. I highly recommend this place to eat when in Aberearon.

My husband and I have been stopping off here for our lunch, on the way to Llangrennog, for about 9 years now. The food is always well cooked and the staff are polite. Hubby has cod which he says is always just right...white and flaky..and the chips are always fresh and crispy. I have chips beans and cheese. You can't say much about beans and cheese to be fair, but I love them. There's always plenty of cheese and beans..enough to take some home for tea. Portion sizes are jolly good year after year. Don't ever change and see you again next year.

Ordered the Celtic Burger, and my wife had the southern fried chicken burger £17 for each, the Celtic burger was tasteless and in my opinion was a cheap frozen pattie the so called chips in skins were just cheap frozen chips, no garnish just a burger on your plate and a bucket of cheap fries, the so called southern fried chicken was a frozen piece of processed chicken, £34 for two substandard burgers, I don’t mind paying for a decent meal but this meal was far short of a decent meal, in fact I would call it a rip off, if your going to charge £17 for a burger I expect something better than frozen food get your act together and stop ripping people off.

Standard food. Nothing that was a standout but nothing that was inedible. Tables took a while to be cleaned even though the place wasn’t busy. A positive about this place is they’re pet friendly.

Arrived about 11.30am so opted for the full Celtic breakfast which came with tea or coffee. Good portion size, 2 bacon/2 sausage/1 egg/beans/tomato/mushrooms/fried bread and toast. Very good quality and served promptly. Staff all very polite and friendly. Good value for money, nice and clean so would definitely recommend and return

We grabbed take out of a Saturday night and despite the place being very busy service was super speedy. The food was fresh, piping hot and delicious, we had fish & chips and sausage & chips and both disappeared very quickly!!!

Everything about this place is just incredibly average, the fish and chips were good, and the chicken pie was also okay but the mushy peas weren’t for me. The service wasn’t bad and neither were the prices but nothing was super great.

This is a very busy place close to the harbour, people sitting outside on the day, middle of August. Ordered Fish and Chips, Scampi and the special, I think it was called the fish basket, this wasn't as good as I hoped for but everything else was perfect. Service was really quick and there's plenty of seating inside too. Staff happy to give out plenty of sauce sachets for no extra charge, it is really frustrating when a chip shop charges extra for sauces. While waiting, looking at what other people were eating, the burgers looked very tasty, one to remember next time we're in beautiful Aberaeron, a very special place.

The service was quick but the waitress got the order wrong at first. We both had bacon, egg, chips and beans. The egg and beans were fine, but the bacon was undercooked, pale and very tough. And more than three quarters of the chips were actually just bits, more like the scrapings! We actually left most of our meal as it just really wasn’t that nice.. This is usually a good restaurant and it was really busy. ….But this doesn’t really encourage me to recommend or visit it again after this experience for a sit down meal.

Good food & friendly service - will do grilled cod with no batter - my wife can't eat batter - it makes her feel ill - not many places offer this option ....👍🏻

This restaurant has lots of choices and caters for children, also dogs are welcome outside, lucky as we had 2 children, 2 dogs and 4 adults. All the adults choose all day breakfasts. These were large and came with fried bread, toast and tea or coffee. My vegetarian was so large and although I finished the meal, the toast I passed to the others. Also it was very reasonably priced. Staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. I’d recommend this restaurant highly.

Visited for lunch on a busy Saturday afternoon. Extremely warm welcome on arrival. I had the cod and chips from the specials menu. Beautifully fresh flaky cod in a crispy batter, chips fresh and tasty definitely visit again when next in the area .

Went for breakfast. Tried the Celtic breakfast and it was absolutely superb. Large portion, well presented and extremely tasty. I often visit for their fish and chips, which are equally outstanding. I am a regular visitor to Aberaeron and always try and make a point of calling in.

Overall good, a bit of a wait to get seated but service was quick and efficient. Potions were plentiful and tasty. At the time we went the car park next door was freezing or appeared to be as there were no pay machines or signage anywhere to be seen.

Various menus to choose from, Kindness and pleasant service. I accompanied my meal with a glass of French MALBEC. Excellent !

Great fish and chips, absolutely gorgeous.

We ate outside for a late afternoon dinner. The weather was breezy with some drizzle so they quickly put out the retractable awning to keep us dry. The food was very nice and they were happy to make me a full salad, even though it wasn't on the menu and it was lovely! Prices very reasonable and great service.

Decent food, decent portions and good service. We dined in, was first stop off from Fishguard ferry when touring Wales by motorcycle. We both had cod and chips, despite being on the daily specials was normal price. But did seem to be very freshly cooked; we were waiting a short while and it was piping hot when it came out. Coleslaw was an especially nice addition. Coffee was also piping hot and decent. Dessert was apple/fruit crumble and cheesecake, both also good. Price was a bit on the upper end for my liking but I'd rather pay €20 for something I enjoy than €5 for something I don't. Recommended.

We had fish and chips to take away from the new celtic. The chips and fish were lovely but a large portion of chips was a bit on the small side! It's good that it doesn't come wrapped up in paper but in a cardboard take away box. Very nice fresh fish and chips. New update! We had a sit down meal it was amazing very happy will definitely go back! I had scampi and it was top quality!

Fantastic place. A really extensive menu, great service, and wonderful, freshly cooked food.

While we were walking around Aberaeron, we wanted something to eat. We noticed The New Celtic and went in. What a superb, clean and tidy place. We went past the serving counter into the seating area. We were shown to a table in the far window. On a good day the view would've been of the harbour but, unfortunately, there's a lot of refurbishment going on at the moment. Our order was taken [hunter chicken for me and prawns in garlic sauce for my wife. Both meals were well presented and delicious. The service was very friendly and attentive. The cost was extremely reasonable. We would thoroughly recommend the New Celtic.

Good fish and chips. We ate inside with fast intelligent service. Menu is wider than fish and chips. Good looking cakes. Plus if they are full there is a take away.

Came here yesterday evening (Saturday 20th July) and from the time we entered we were greeted by the most polite and happy staff! 7 of us in total so expected a bit of a wait but no, the food was with us quickly and everyone enjoyed! Delicious food, large portions excellent value for money!! Would highly recommend!!!

we have been stopping here for years for fish and chips. Utterly reliable and anticipated, our stop at Aberaeron has been for years the start of our holiday. Not this time - tiny fish (normally so generous) and chips no seasoning despite being specially requested. The main disappointment however was the size of fish which was really a joke, Stopping at Aberystwyth next time.

Popped into this restaurant a couple of days ago and we were glad we did. We got a lovely table by the window. Good service, fast and polite. We fancied something a bit plain so had sausage egg and chips which was delicious and very reasonably priced. The wine was also very good, Nice place

Really enjoyed the meal,we both had fish and chips with peas my husband had curry sauce, huge portions.it can get really busy on one occasion during the summer we have had to queue and wait a while to get in, which is a good sign. Also it is quite expensive for a fish and chip meal but really very nice.

Ordered three kid's meal where we were told that the curry was curry half and half (chips and rice) or full portion of rice or chips. The two kid's curry came out - one half and half and the other was rice only BUT the rice only was exactly the same size as the half snd half portion (rice and curry) but there was additional chips SO the portions were not equal!! My son ate his curry and rice - 4 mouthfuls for £7.95 but were told that they could only take a milkshake off the order because he had eaten it all!!! Absolutely disgraceful. We're regulars here but they've now lost four customers. Shameful portions and staff attitude poor.

You can't come to the seaside without having fish and chips (and 2 sausages for the dog) and there's no better place than The New Celtic Restaurant. Although the queue was nearly out the door - testament to the excellent freshly cooked food - I only had to queue 5 minutes for our food. Will be back again during the weekend

Busy chip shop, pleasant friendly staff. However, I was so disappointed with my food. I ordered chicken curry and chips. The curry wasn’t your normal chip shop curry it tasted like a masala sauce you get out of jar from Aldis. There’s was only 3 pieces of chicken. The chicken was cubes of meat like the chicken you use from a frozen bag. I would have taken it back, but I didn’t realise this till I got back home to eat this. After a couple of bites I had to throw it in the bin. As this was not to my liking. I’m m such a huge curry lover 😔 sadly disappointing and still hungry

Have visited Aberaeron many times but have not been here. Friendly welcome on arrival, decided on cheese and leek rissole with chips and baked beans for myself and, sausage/egg/chips and beans for my Husband. Very tasty and a good portion size but my rissole was quite cold inside. I can eat food that’s not hot so not really a problem for me but some people might not like it. Lovely cappuccino coffees and very good service so would definitely return.

Best takeaway fish I’ve ever had- fresh and made to order

This is a modern and stylish looking restaurant / fish & chips shop / ice cream shop! It's clean and possibly one of the nicest shops I have visited during my travels in the UK. I purchased 1 large cod & chips that was supplied in a nice box and cost just over £10. Both the cod & chips were ok, however being an honest reviewer I cannot say they were the best fish & chips I have ever had, but they were certainly good. The cod wasn't as chunky or white as some I've had, the chips were a little dried up and varied in size, and the batter was not as crispy as some. But if you are in the area this is a very nice place to eat 😃
