Pre booked table for lunch. Friendly greeting from lovey waitress. All COVID secure. Lovely table with sea view. Prices for lunch very reasonable. All six meals excellent, food piping hot. Waitress very efficient and had great sense of humour. Cakes very nice too. Will be going back.

Whilst I have been to the Fairways numerous times over the years, this was my first visit since Lockdown last year and my first experience of the new menu. Both my wife and I chose the paella which was first class. The food we saw going to other tables also looked fantastic. Ian looked after us. He was attentive, helpful and generally wanted to ensure that our experience met all expectations. I recommend to anyone.

Having booked Sunday lunch for 3 we were totally disappointed, in fact the meal itself was disgusting. the roast potatoes over cooked, the rest of the limited amount of veg was not hot and under cooked, the large roast parsnip was virtually raw, the pork and turkey was tasteless and there were no pigs in blankets, stuffing, crackling or buttered potatoes as per the menu. after repeated requests a small dish of burnt crackling was brought out at the end of the meal. in conclusion I would not give this establishment even 1 star and would never, repeat, never go there ever again. No track and trace records kept on the day,

Visited today for lunch. Ordered moules marinieres and traditional fish and chips. The place was very busy and they said food service may be slow. It wasn't and was served in around twenty minutes. They forgot the chef's tartare sauce and garlic bread but realised their mistake and rectified it quickly. Quality and portions were very good. At least four different staff members served us. Each one was friendly and efficient. £34 inc two drinks each was great value. We will visit here again.

We booked Fairways for our Bridgend U3A monthly birthday lunch. The food was pre ordered and there was no waiting , there was water on the table and drinks were ordered. Food was provided promptly and was well presented, delicious and portions generous. Staff couldn’t do more for us even to the extent of moving a plant pot from outside the hotel to facilitate moving my car out and waiting while I did so !!! An excellent experience and well recommended, we will certainly go again

Visited this Sunday for Sunday lunch (first visit) and the experience was very disappointing. The restaurant was quiet with only a few tables occupied which gave a lack of atmosphere (not that the establishment can do much about this factor). The area was very cold and drafty which was quite unpleasant to sit in. Whilst the staff were friendly, one male staff member had a body odor issue which was extremely unpleasant. He served us our drinks and the smell lingered around our table. Not standards you would expect anywhere, yet alone in a food environment. The food itself was awful! I’m sorry to say it was probably the worst Sunday lunch I have ever had. The beef was tough, difficult to chew and cut, Yorkshire puddings were burnt around the edges. The vegetables were over cooked, wet and soggy from the Shaven dishes. The gravy was like watered down bisto granules. Overall the meal lacked taste and quality. Myself and partner won’t be returning I’m afraid. Thanks

Have just left from the Christmas meal... Having paid £80 per head for this meal, I would have expected much better. The service was incredibly slow, and when our mains arrived, none of us received everything we expected. I personally had no stuffing or pigs in blankets, and others in our party had similar issues. If it wasn't for the helpful waiting manager, who offered us a satisfactory credit note for our issues, I would have left a 1-star review. This is not a slur on the waiting staff, they were courteous and friendly, were doing their best and quite obviously upset themselves, but I get the feeling that the chef and overall management had jumped ship, and done a really shoddy job at keeping it all together tonight. Really disappointing dining experience.

Beautiful place overlooking the sea, lovely and clean and excellent service from waitresses. We were a group of 26 (celebrating my mum's birthday) so we had 5 large tables together. We did wait quite a while for our starters but that's to be expected when we didn't our pre order and we were a large group. The lunch was a carvery and the meat was beautiful and plentiful. Lots of lovely veg to choose from too. Excellent value for money. I did think the gravy was slightly tangy though but many thought it was fine. Desserts were also fab. I would definitely go back (that's if they'd have us lol). Lovely place x

I’ve been to The Fairways for food a couple of times the past few months and I’ve been nothing but impressed by the service and the food. I had the lasagne off the Italian menu and it was gorgeous, it was presented beautifully and tasted delicious. It was a great portion size too. The menu had something on it for everyone and not too much for choice which I thought was great. The waitress was very helpful and welcoming. The barman was very friendly and humorous which made our evening much more enjoyable. I will definitely be returning soon.

Having eaten at the Fairways Hotel restaurant some time ago and finding it excellent ( the nut roast was the nicest I’d eaten anywhere) we made a return visit - BIG mistake .The staff are friendly and welcoming . Our waitress Jackie was very accommodating and looked after us very well . The chef likewise. The owner/manager was very attentive asking if everything was satisfactory etc.We had opted for the Carvery which did not disappoint in the wide choice of vegetables available and which proved to be very tasty. However we found some of the vegetables were quite cold and not up to an acceptable temperature. I later found out that my husband’s meat was on the tough side . We had both refrained from complaining as we didn’t want to spoil a special occasion .As there was no vegetarian gravy I made do with having to eat my meal dry but again no real cause for complaint - my fault for being a veggie. On receiving the bill we were surprised to find that no discount had been given for the meatless meal which we politely queried. We thought this a quite fair request and would have been happy with a reduction of £2 or so .The owner/ manager Dave was sent for and by gosh how his attitude had now changed. He could see no reason why he should amend our bill and made us feel that we were acting unreasonably . We were told that he had been up since 4 a.m. preparing the food although we failed to see what this had to do with the situation . As he was becoming belligerent we paid the bill in full and left .I have said my piece - it’s up to Trip Advisor review readers to decide whether they find this helpful. We most definitely will be not returning to this venue .

We called in today to have lunch which we have had here before and it's been great. But today it was a disaster. The weather was great so we sat outside. I ordered the food from the two course menu of three starters and three mains and paid for it. There was about thirty other guests with the bulk at a party luncheon. The waiter came out to explain to us there would be a 30 minute wait for food which was fine to us. When my wife got a second drink as it had been 50 minutes wait at that time a gentle was complaining about his wait off an hour after being told it was only a 20 minute wait for him. At 1 hour and 15 minutes wait with no starters my wife went in to see what was going on. The waitress apologised and said they have been very busy and we're short staffed. To be honest it was not that busy and it was a pathetic excuse. 5 more minutes went by and the waiter who took my order came over to explain that the chefs had lost our order.!!!!!!!!! And then said that we could have the main meals but not the starters as they had turned off all the equipment.????? WHAT. the three starters were cold so only needed a toaster for the bread for two pates and a prawn cocktail????? And if they turned off all the equipment how could they cook 2 burger and chips and a battered cod and chips.????? Well the answer is it was now 3.20 pm and the food stops at 2.30 pm. So if we had starters and then mains they would off had to work on late. Well this was not our fault and we should off been served and how the hell do you know what we ordered if you lost the order.????? . The management needs to get a grip and the head chef. I've been in the hotel and Catering business for over 27 years and been in some really bad situations when under pressure but if you are going to tell lies make them a wee bit believable. TOTAL DISASTER.

It's an odd set up, with a dining room that appears too formal compared to the more beachy outdoor terrace. Views of the sea are nice. Food was good and we'll cooked. Menu is a bit short, and no wine list was available, though the bottle they produced was reasonable in both taste and price. Cheap paper napkins don't match the decor. Woukd happily go again, but perhaps they need to decide whether to be high end, in which case there are improvements needed, or go a bit more casual.

I’ve had Sunday Carvery here a few times and it’s always lovely. On this occasion my daughter had the prawn and calamari burger and I had the cod in rum butter with sweet potato fries and a spicy coconut sauce. Both were faultless. If I had a slight niggle when I went to order the barman took a call in the middle of serving me. He made no apology for this. He then gave me a slightly short measure of drink because he emptied the bottle and apparently couldn’t be asked to open another bottle. Yes ok I should have complained but ok I didn’t. The Chefs are superb. This is a favourite dining venue of mine when visiting Porthcawl. One enjoys sea views and tranquillity as a part of the "food pampering" experience. Wait staff are helpful and pleasant. To sit in cosy-warmth on a chill day, sipping wine and looking over the low cliff top to the sea, knowing that the meal to come will consistently be to a high standard, enhances the experience immeasurably. (When I visited in Summertime, the large French doors were open to the gentle breeze.) Take time to make this a leisurely dining experience, whether midday or evening...you won't be disappointed.

The rooms are very old and half the things in the room are broken. To top it all when we arrived I went to use the toilet only to discover there was urine already in there!!!! Yuk.yes the picture of the view looks blurred because the windows are so dirty (and it didnt open so the room was like a sauna). The wardrobe looked like something they found outside someone's house who is throwing it out.Went down for breakfast admittedly half hour before it finished and there was hardly any food left. Surely they should put on enough food until it finishes at 10am. There were no beans and the black pudding and sausages looked like they had been there for a week and we're rock hard. Venue is in a great location and a perfect place to stop after a nice walk along beach or to sit and watch the splenour of our earth by sitting back and having your evening meal kissed beautiful by the sunset you can capture the amazing sea scape that is all across the dinning area..Enjoing the food is so easy when it could have hailed from a top star restaurant. Totally delicious would go back in a heartbeat. Massive compliments to the chef for such wonderful good. Our whole table was really impressed by the food and would definitely recommend this venue for a meal for any occasion.

It was their lunchtime menu which was £12.95 for 2 courses. I had the walnuts with beetroot and frais. This was delicious and well presented. For the main I ordered the chicken with cous cous and lemon. There was plenty of it and tasted very good. I had a bottle of Australian chardonnay which complimented the meal nicely.

Me and my partner went to the Fairways for a celebratory meal just the two of us. The service was great more than helpful. The food was out of this world my partner still talks about the mixed grill now, the best he has ever had. I had kebab and that was amazing, for the food and drinks the price was more than reasonable.Looking forward to returning soon.

Came here for a quiet weekend only to find a baby shower going on with children running everywhere, so we were forced to go else where to enjoy our day. On our return whilst booking for our QUIET evening meal we we had to put up with cattling people in the same room. I'm up for people having a good time , but maybe a private room for said parties would be a good idea. As for the room. Very basic. Curtains hanging off. Bed hard. Pillows hard. No hairdryer or iron.Would I return. .... NO

This restaurant was a lovely place overlooking the sea - pity the food was terrible! We had Sea Bass and Garlic Mash, with green beans. The beans were obviously frozen tasted of water the garlic mash was grey and tasteless and the fish was overdone. The staff were pleasant but no-one asked us if we enjoyed it - maybe because they knew it was not up to standard. Will not visit again

Visited for Sunday lunch and chose the carvery as before. The staff we all very helpful and attentive but the food was not as good as several previous visits, cold plates, luke warm food, and veg that was either overdone (carrots, yorkshires) or underdone (sprouts). The orangery was full booked and we ate in the restaurant which was fine, just not as well equipped for a carvery. We will eat there again because all our previous visits have beeb so good.

A group of 9 of us, all locals, had our Christmas Party at the Fairways on Friday 2nd. It was one of the best Christmas parties we've ever been to. The food and service was excellent, the Magician, Serge, was unbelievable - if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it. There was also a Casino with Blackjack and Roulette and proper croupiers, and of course a disco. A brilliant night and highly recommended by all of us - Thanks !

Attended friends wedding and reception at this hotel. A fantastically delivered wedding venue and ceremony in a very well presented room with a view, followed by a beautiful afternoon tea in the traditional style. The evening was "hog roast", buffet with many extras and was again a very well delivered standard of cuisine. Did not stay the night as I was a very local resident. On personal experience the whole day was wonderful. Thank you Fairways Hotel you will certainly see me again.

Great venue for a wedding reception right on the Porthcawl seafront. The staff were friendly & helpful & the manager was very attentive making sure everything ran smoothly throughout the day. There was a hog roast / carvery & buffet which was all served very professionally. The atmosphere was great with Porthcawl's legendary DJ the one & only Robbie Owen providing the evening entertainment.

Fabulous position overlooking sea in Porthcawl but rooms are in urgent renovation, stayed in room 15 both opening window latches broken so couldn't open window, paper peeling off walls and ensuite a little grubby.. stair carpet threadbare in places. Breakfast really poor quality for Buffett breakfast would expect a lot more choice, Pastries etc... staff were friendly and helpful but got £110 per night would expect much higher standards in terms of rooms and breakfast choices...Such a shame Hotel could be a real stunner with a bit of work but won't be returning....

My partner and I visited on Sunday for the carvery as it had been recommended to us. We were booked in for the 12pm service and were not disappointed. The venue was very clean, nicely laid out and all the staff that dealt with us were very prompt, friendly and approachable. The drinks were reasonably priced (G&T - Red wine), as was the food. The food was delicious. Everything was cooked well, nothing overdone. There was plenty of choice of veg. We will definitely be going back. I think this is a great place for both couples and families to enjoy a Sunday lunch with a sea view.

My husband and I visited on a Monday Lunchtime there were only 3 or 4 tables full so there weren't very busy, we both ordered from the Lunchtime Specials Menu 2 courses for £12.95 and I paid upfront leaving a tip before the meal, i had the Pate and my husband the Melon, the Pate in itself was good and the orange sauce and onions again ok but the Doughy White Baguette rolls it was served with really let it down, the Melon was ok, Melon is Melon ! I ordered the Chicken Kebab with Chips and Salad the Kebab was a bit overcooked and the meat dry the salad consisted of a bit of Cos lettuce and 2 tiny thin slices of Tomato so more a garnish than a sad which i was really looking forward to. and the chips !!! i had about 4 nice crispy golden chips and about 10 - 12 dark brown soggy chips which had obviously been recooked and warmed up grease was oozing out of them and they were inedible, The so called Garlic Bread was that Doughy Baguette again sliced and had a centre of butter with a sprinkling of parsley not a bit of colour or crispness at all, my husband had the steak which he said was ok but he had the same mixture of fresh and greasy chips, a waitresses came to our table during and the meal and i did comment on the Garlic bread which was all there uneaten and she said it was not acceptable, but we were not offered a refund we sat for 10 minutes after finishing our meal to see if anyone would come but they didn't so we just left very disappointment and vowing not to return,

Visited here for a pre booked birthday party. Not overly impressed at all. Staff were not particularly attentive , childs meals are all served with chips. when asked for potatoes they came with them but no butter no sauce. asked for peas but both came with beans. We weren't even offered the dessert board to look at so we didn't order one. They could have had much more from us. The adults meals were ok. Wouldn't go back simply because if you are paying that much for food I expect service and quality which it lacked.

Called in two weeks ago place was full but managed to get a table in the rear dinning area.It is a carvery lunch with a wide choice of beef, lamb turkey and pork. A wide choice of starter we opted for the pate which came with two slices of warm French bread the pate was in a jar with a berry dressing on the top it was excellent. The carvery was near the kitchen door so the chef doing the carvery was able to get fresh joints quickly .Plenty of vegetables and a good variety of mint sauce etc.Mistake you can make is getting two or more meats on the plate because the chef is generous with the cuttings so there is no room on the plate for the potatoes and veg.Recommend two visits with one meat at a time. Good choice of sweets each came with ice cream . Wine is reasonable at £3.50 per glass, Service was good with staff attentive, only down side a lot of children running around but that is not the hotels faultGood value for money if you like carvery

We booked a table for a family birthday having eaten here many times over the years. When we arrived there was no table booked in our name despite my husband calling in to book a table and the barman writing it down. Fortunately there were several empty tables. Our order was taken, only to be told later that there was no goats cheese or smoked salmon. There was also no printed wine list and when pressed we were given a hastily handwritten list of about six wines. We asked for a jug of water which duly arrived but weren't given any glasses. Our main courses were very substandard: Rabbit with sauté potatoes, vegetables in a red wine sauce - the rabbit was dry and suspiciously pale. It could have been pork or chicken and was inedible. The "vegetables" turned out to be asparagus which I couldn't even cut. The sauce was terribly salty, doesn't the chef taste what he cooks? My daughters Carbonara was mainly mushrooms and little pasta. My husbands's steak was very small for the price. My son's fish combo was served on a long pole, most bizarre, again a paltry portion. The waitress and wait or passed no remark when they removed my full plate. When we sought out the manager he agreed not to charge us for the meal.We have been here many times over the years and were so disappointed that our daughter's birthday meal was so poor. We noticed that the owner arrived whilst we were still at the table but either he wasn't told or couldn't be bothered to apologise. That was really all we wanted, an apology. The waitress returned to the table before we left to ask if we wanted a dessert, we all gave her a resounding "no"

I stayed here for 3 nights on business and was not impressed by the exterior view as I drove around the corner. As the title of this review says I was deceived. This is an old hotel but the place has been tastefully decorated and I had a room with a sea view that was large, very clean with a very clean comfortable bed. Heating was excellent on cold February evenings. Food in the hotel is also excellent with lots of choice either in the bar or restaurant and nothing is too much trouble for the staff, a good find.
