Ordered a decaf coffee. Was shocked to discover there was a £0.50 surcharge. The coffee was lovely but, to my mind, charging £0.50 more for decaf than regular is a rip off. When I asked the server why decaf was so much more expensive - in my case £3.00 rather than £2.50, an increase of 20% - he replied that he didn't have a clue! Full marks for honesty, I guess.

I found the Espresso Room in a state of desperation after having postponed my afternoon coffee for the sake of being able to see the John Soane’s Museum before closing time. I just had an Americano and a sponge cup, but I must point out that this was by far the best coffee I had in six days in London. Quite simply a perfect cup of coffee with the right acidity, with some notes of dark berries to balance it up. The cake was delicious too. The place is rather funny with no seating in the vicinity of the counter, but there is plenty of room to sit elsewhere.

How lucky was I to find a great coffee shop, right outside my holiday apartment. The coffee was good and if I’d been starving longer would have got fat eating the sausage buns for breakfast. There’s healthier options, with a wide choice and a menu board for brunch. Oh yes a tasty choice of cakes - again one of my food weaknesses

This could have been such a positive review, but sadly the River Cafe has some major negatives that i feel obliged to write. First is the crazy system they use to order your coffee. They only have employed one barista who obviously when its busy, will be overwhelmed with orders and be prepared to wait and wait! Then when you finally get your coffee ( yes its quite good) its generally "luke warm" . And now comes the challenge.. You want to sit down and relax and start the day. You need to navigate, carrying your coffee (i only have it in a porcelain cup) down some stairs, then up some stairs, and then find a seat, And the chairs? OMG. They must have been picked up from some throwaway recycle place.. Half a broken, all the rest are like your school chairs, each one impossible to sit on for more than 2 minutes. And then finally, should you be bold enough to try their cakes, dont bother! They are consistently awful. The banana / walnut cake, is soggy and filled with cinnamon to disguise any semblance of tatse. Yup, you can see from this rather longer than required review that I'm not the happiest customer from this place. Time to seek others

I visited a costa coffee store today with my dog just to get some food. As I walked in the "manager" was looking me up and down. I selected some food from their cabinet. I was then walking to pay. The manager says will you be eating here and stared at my dog. I asked why and she carried on looking at the dog. I put the items down and walked towards the door. She said it is our policy and it says so on the door. She then walked me to the door that only had the opening times with no policy. Oh we took it down when the window was cleaned today. I said how was I supposed to know. The way I was treated made me very upset. It is not my fault that there was no sign. Why should I be treated in such a way. Work men with dirty construction clothes can sit in but not me (suited and booted) with an exceptionally well behaved dog on a lead. Their loss and I will be sure that I let people know about how you get treated.
