Lovely pub with such a varied menu, definitely something for everyone. Even the kids meals are great and a good size. They do the nicest homemade chips! Big portions, even the 'Lighter Lunch' dishes are great size which make them good value. I love their Steak & Ale pie, really yummy! My Dad enjoyed the Vegetarian Lasagne with Garlic Bread (they have a good range of vegetarian meals). Then of course there is the beauty of the location with the beautiful views from Eighton Banks. They have a lovely beer garden at the rear too, which will be lovely to enjoy in the nice weather.

Great food and service as usual. Highly recommend the hot beef baguette.

I would recommend the Engine Rooms we have been quite a few times in the past few months. we came for Sunday lunch today and they must have been having an off day. my wife got a pork dinner and by the time the veg came the dinner had gone cold and she had to ask for a yorkshire pudding. The childs pasta came with Garlic bread and the bread had a thick gray or blond hair embedded in the centre. we asked to see the Manager who was very apologetic but did not like my wife saying hers was "Disgusting " he thought "Disgusting " was to strong a word and told us so. he did refund the 2 meals and we would like to thank him for that. My advice to him is just to listen to the customer's issues and accept there feelings on the meals that the have been presented instead of prolonging the situation in front of other customers. we do not want to put anyone of eating here as it is most part a very nice place to eat and staff ar very polite and friendly. We visited the Engine Room today for lunch. There was five adults our 3 year granddaughter. We’ve been here quite few times. It’s always been nice. However today it was disgusting. Our granddaughter had pasta with a garlic bread, which had a hair in it. I had Sunday lunch with pork. It was cold. Had to ask for Yorkshire pudding. When it came it was stone cold. They said they had no lettuce for prawn cocktail!!! No child’s burger. We didn’t mind this at the time, but once the mains came the hair and the cold lunch wasn’t acceptable. Asked to speak the manager. When I said my lunch was disgusting, he became very defensive. To be honest it could have progressed to an argument as a refused to accept my complaints. All he needed to do was apologise, but he refused to listen. He sent a young waiter with the refund (which I told him I didn’t want). The young waiter was lovely and I felt sorry for him. Does this not speak volumes that he didn’t return to us with the refund of my meal and our granddaughter. There’s lots more I could say regarding his attitude in front of the whole pub. To be honest I don’t think it would make any difference to his behaviour.

Went for Sunday lunch. I ordered a beef dinner and it was lovely. Beef was cooked well and it was thick. Could have done with more veg but overall it was lovely tasting. Beef was £14.99 lamb was £15.99. My wife had the battered haddock with chips and mushy peas and she said it was great. This was £14.99.

Food was tasty and the beer was cold. A nice clean place and the staff are very friendly. A little on the expensive side.

First time we had ever been. Was lovely and cosy and warm. Staff were approachable and friendly. Enjoyed food. Was lovely. Would come back.

Booked tables here for 21 of us last night for my son’s 18th. Food was delicious as ever. Everyone was happy with their choices all varied. Staff were friendly and hardworking. Nothing was any trouble. Will definitely be returning.

Had heard good reports, and got invited by Amy to meet for lunch. Wow what a fantastic meal. Large portions, quick and courteous service. Lots of specials on board, as well as a good selection in the menu. Also sell double maxim on draught. Tastefully decorated for Christmas. Don't know why we have waited so long to visit. Will deffo return.

Had a Sunday lunch for a family of 8 and we all really enjoyed it. They catered no problem to food allergies and the main Sunday Roasts were delicious with mash and roast potatoes as well as a good selection of veg which were served separately. I had the beef, which I got a good portion of and it was falling apart tender. The deserts also spot on and very good size portions. Service was quick and friendly. Will definitely return.

Popped in last minute over Christmas, they were really busy but still managed to fit us in, the food and service was great, friendly northern welcome as usual

A lovely Sunday lunch for a family of 10. We hadn't been here before but will definitely be back. Every one agreed the nicest Sunday lunches we've had. Between us we had chicken, lamb and beef dinners, followed by various puddings. Generous portions of meat and veg with massive Yorkshire. The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. Four of us visited for a birthday. It was yet another amazing visit with fantastic food. Service was a bit on the slow side but that’s to be expected on a busy Saturday in between Xmas and New Year. Atmosphere was great along with the staff.

Food and Drinks Orange cordial and lemonade served in 1/2 pint or possibly a 10oz glass and pint of blackcurrant and tap water at a phenomenal price of £5.05. Clearly charging for tap water. I took back the pint blackcurrant and water back as it tasted disgusting. Bar tender said "I did ask if you wanted ice" I replied "let the tap run it makes a massive difference" He apologised and served another. We ordered food, which we waited around 45mins maybe longer. My food arrived luke warm and on a plate which weren't as clean as it should have been. Underneath the lighten you could see all the water marks and thumb marks off where the plate had been handled. I polished off my own cutlery before using the utensils. Looking around I could see chunks of food on the floor. I watched the waitress clean down the table in a fashion before seating others to eat. Table was still dirty with visable signs of food still on it. I witnessed a blonde female bar staff constantly touching her hair as though she were tying in up for a pony tail only to let go of it to serve drinks without hand washing taking place. After food, I used the toilets. Toilet roll holders where empty paper towels on the floor and an over flowing bin. I don't recommend eating or drinking here. Hygiene standards amongst staff are staggering whilst serving food and beverages. I understand over a busy period like Christmas, things get overlooked but it wasn't really that busy. As staff were standing talking. It takes nothing to keep on top of things. Keeping the dinning area clean, polishing the plates and cutlery etc, it's part of the job. To top everything else off your lemonade was flat 🙄..

Friendly welcome when we arrived .the food was delicious and lots of it .well worth a visit .we will definitely be going again .

It was suggested to go here for our works Christmas meal and wow it did not disappoint 👏 the food was fantastic, lovely restaurant, staff welcoming and friendly. The price was great for a meal and drink. Will definitely be going back. Thank you 😊

Fantastic Sunday lunch and sticky toffee pudding. Seemed all homemade the Yorkshires were massive and scrummy!

Really excellent food with generous portions. Amazing value for money considering portion sizes. I had the panko chicken burger and my partner had a Yorkshire pudding wrap. Both were delicious and both took home leftovers.

Had a quick lunch here and the food was very good. Huge helpings but very tasty. Service was also good.

Do not go. My friend went to this pub on Tuesday and ordered the chicken fajitas and 24 hours later had the most horrible pain from sickness and diarrhoea. I visited with my friend on Wednesday and again both of us were ill all night with sickness and diarrhoea. We all ordered the chicken fajitas which I do not believe to be a coincidence. The food was nice however we waited an hour from ordering and have been violently ill since. I will not be returning to this restaurant and advise others to check their food before eating or avoid the place altogether.

Overall an excellent experience food lovely service good i only marked a three for atmosphere because it was a midday on wednesday so couldn't mark higher

Really nice lunch, which we all enjoyed. Good size portions at reasonable prices, I don't think any of us could completely finish, so there was no room for desserts. Good selection of drinks, including some real ales. The only slight drawback was that there was no ordering of meals with the waiters/waitresses, and you had to order at the bar, unfortunately, due to a number of meals being unavailable I was backwards and forwards a few times untill we got that sorted.

I wish I had the most recent reviews before stepping foot in this pub as our experience was clearly not a one off. The food was really quite repulsive and the service was awful. I left 90% of my meal due to the pork sausages being undercooked, still pink and cold in the middle and the veg was tasteless and overcooked. The server came to clear our plates away and asked if everything was ok with our meal. I mentioned that the sausages were visibly undercooked and she just said oh and walked away. We stayed to finish our drinks and no-one ever came over to apologise. We didn't even get a goodbye or thank you as we left. They really seemed disgruntled that I had the audacity to not want to eat undercooked meat. Very strange.

Picked a random pub on our route to have tea with my family on our way home from a day out. I got lucky, the food was lovely and portions are good value for money. Would recommend

Horrible chips burnt fish was cold and horrible , salad was wilted and horrible , avoid , ive had better at mcdonalds very poor food substandard , should of known by the menu presentation a4 paper holders that are frayed its a thumbs down from me oh and the dust , big shame

Waited an hour for food for it to be very disappointing chips were hard steaks were cold one had to be sent back as freezing not what I expected from here as usually lovely spent £200 on food everyone just about left will not returning

Well don’t like putting a bad review on but I have to! As I couldn’t serve chips like this. Supposed to be home made chips and they were rock hard, I couldn’t even snap one in half. I told the waitress and she apologised and took them back. Other customers heard me and they were saying they are awful too so there went back. Waitress can’t back and said it’s the season of potatoes 🙄 so would I like fries, I said ok. Brought out my same fish ( heated back up) with my frozen chips!! Husband got mixed grill tough as bulls lugs too and that was medium rare - bad experience never again - needs a refurbished too as carpets stinks of foist. NOT GOOD

Experience spoilt as was served pint pepsi and had live ants in it only found this out when drank it and swallowed some !! Took drink back and they just said sorry I'll pour another, the glass is from area where there's ants made me feel sick all day and angry and upset

Waited 1 hour for food, came out freezing and over done. No apology for the wait and the waitress nearly dropped my food on me. Terrible wouldn’t recommend at all. Waste of money and time

Popped in today. The Double Maxim was great and my wife's wine was beautiful. We had the lasagne and steak and ale pie. They were very reasonably priced and excellent quality. Will be back

Friends nite out. Booked table at 6 pm . Lovely food. Generous portions. We had 3 starters 5 mains and 2 puddings. We tried the followingprawns , samfire and scallops,potato skins for starters . Then 2x salmon with asparagus and baby new potatoes with holandaise sauce . Very nice indeed . Also burgers and chips and lasagna . Those that didnt have a starter mansged a scrumptious zsticky toffee puddingcwith ice cream . Delicious. Car park was very full at 6 pm and took time to park.

Really disappointed with the food we ordered. The chips with the meal had obviously been reheated from lunch and were so hard and crisp, well burnt really, that they were inedible! We told the waitress who collected our plates , who said "Sorry about that" and walked off. Doubt we'll be back, sorry!

Had vouchers to use from Christmas, phoned up booked our table, and it was an absolute pleasure dining here We got parked with no problems it was busy in the pub with dinners all over, the atmosphere was lovely with big parties celebrating, smaller table's of 4 and 6 and also cosy tables for couples The menu and blackboard specils were vast and far too many to choose from for you 1 visit here We were greeted with big genuine smiles on faces Asked where we would like to sit, showing to our table ,after deciding on our food, we ordered at the bar, and our food was served in about 15/20 minutes Fresh, hot, and cooked absolutely perfect, the portion was of good size and definitely worth the money. In fact, it was the best mixed grill I have had eating out. The other half's scampi was also delicious, and we both cleared our plates to full for dessert So if you haven't eaten out here before, please give it a try. You definitely won't regret it. It's hard to find a family run , place thats not a big chain pub outlet doing absolutely fantastic fresh, home cooked food at good price and portion sizes that's not bought in frozen and microwaved Well done to all your team

Lovely gastropub with a friendly atmosphere and lovely staff. Excellent drink selection on tap and plenty of tables inside and outside. We ordered chicken fajitas (huge portion!) and mushroom stroganoff, both of which were very tasty! We will be back!

Was in on Saturday evening with friends and family as we always do, have to say it's gone right down hill, was ill off the food in fact the chef couldn't cook a pot noodle, waited 40 minutes to get what was a big disappointment, not good

Ordered at the till, advised of **allegy** to onions TWICE .. We got onions? Next meal, No peas please, we got peas.. Next meal steak, medium please, we got VERY well done?? Ehhhhhh!!!! that's all 3 meals WRONG, and one with an ALLERGY? Simply didn't care .. took away our plates not even a 'sorry'

Enjoyed a nice chilled meal for my daughter finishing her sats. Meals were outstanding... meals we had were parmo, kids spaghetti bol, chicken tikka masala and special from board cajun chicken kebab throughly enjoyed by all.....

Food is consistently of a high quality, as with popular eating places, it can be very busy at times. It may be worth reserving a table especially around bank holidays. The staff as you would expect are friendly and courteous. Regular pub quiz on Thursday, starting after 9

This has become my local now. Sometimes for just a couple of drinks and food. I’m the last few weeks I’ve had a Sunday dinner which was amazing. The Sunday menu caters from all. But tonight has been one of the tastiest. I went for the chicken kebab, definitely recommend this for everyone to try. Big shout out to all the staff always friendly and just a nice place to be. Book a table so your not disappointed.

Came here with my family as I came up from London to see them and to have a nice meal with my family. However, when we arrived we had to wait 20 minutes for our booked table as some other group was still sitting at are table we had booked, the service wasn't good at all as the waitress was very miserable and not giving good customer service. The food, omg we ordered mince and dumping, and it came cold and wasn't cooked right. We left our meals and we won't be coming back unfortunately.

Outstanding food last night. Had specials board pan fried chicken with saute potatoes. It was superbly cooked and presented as was the rest of our meals. Shout out to the chefs best meal I have had in a pub and attention to detail was spot on. Service was excellent too and pub was extremely busy well done everyone.

Had food with a vegan friend a few months back. My hot beef was delicious and his veggie sandwich was also very good I had a taste.

We've eaten here many times and have not been disappointed. However, last night my 'medium' cooked fillet steak arrived almost black on the outside. Inside was well done. Obviously overcooked. Husband didn't want to complain as he was hungry. Steak was edible and tasted ok. Home cooked chips were delicious. Black pudding starter was also delicious. Shame they couldn't get the steak right.

Food was very nice in good sized portions. It's probably best to phone and reserve, we hit lucky with getting a table. Was a decent wait for food, but you have to expect that for proper home cooed grub. Friendly staff and parking out the back.

I have visited many times and never been disappointed but unfortunately I can't say the same for my recent visit ! I took a friend who hadn't been before and was embarrassed by the quality of the food we were served. Chicken parmo was deep fried in fish batter which was very hard, it should be cooked in breadcrumbs.Pork and Leek sausages very were poor quality, needless to say the majority of it was left untouched. We did voice our disappointed and was offered a coffee !! No thanks ! Ended up going to a tea rooms for our coffee and dessert.

Pretty busy on a Sunday but luckily bagged a table for 4 of us. Good selection of Sunday roasts and alternative menu available. Roast came out with meat, roast potatoes, mash, mashed swede Yorkie pud and tonnes of gravy! Side dishes of veg. There was lamb for every mouthful of dinner. The chicken was really delicious and plenty of it too. The pub itself is a little tired but the staff were super friendly and helpful!

Been to the engine room lots of times to eat, but never had Sunday lunch. My husband and I were not disappointed, Craig had mince and dumplings, I had the roast beef dinner. Everything was delicious, I couldn't eat all of mine, so will be having it for my breakfast. It was one of the best Sunday lunches I have had, and the gravy was too die for.
