Six of us went to this restaurant for a birthday celebration. The food was excellent, staff friendly and helpful. Lots of choice on the menu. Recommend booking, as I couldn’t see any free tables when we were there. Will definitely return!

Overrated food, but worst of all the service. They are keen to make you leave. Despite having booked in advanced, they made is wait for 30 mins for the table. The host was rude and made you feel like you're not welcomed.

I think it closed nearly 10 years ago, but there was a chinese restaurant called "Bamboo Basket" in St James' Park which served awesome chow mein. I think the noodle was freshly prepared onsite with an exquisite sauce which I could not find anywhere else since then - the chow mein by Ken Lo's memories of China in Victoria was the closest but although it was great in its own right it was not qutie the same. I was excited to find that same chow mein again at this restaurnat more than after 10 years' searh - the soft, fresh and delicious noodles with the unique soya sauce! So far I had pork one and seafood one and have been very happy. I would like to try the duck dishes in the future. The serving staff are all very nice and efficient, they supply a small tissue box for each table which you can take home as well, there is a clever equipment with thin bags at the entracne that automatically wrap your wet umbrera when you stick it into it. A very well organised new style Chinese cafe with quality food and service!

Food was fast and not too badly priced for London. Service staff a bit too attentive. 1* for service charges added automatically If you want to add a service charge as standard, please add it on the line, ie.. Mushroom Noodles 10 (+1) 11 Or better yet, pay your staff properly to offer good service and let us choose to add an extra tip if we have received exceptional service. Ironically, one of our party planned to leave a better tip than the service charge.

Second time dining here, a lot shorter queue waiting compared to a few months ago when it just opened. Nice authentic HK style food! Main rice and noodle courses are very big portions. Fried chicken wings are very good!

Although this is a waiter-service joint it felt more like a fast food shop! Ok its good to get speedy service but this was just a bit too quick. Surely you need a bit of time to spend in a restaurant to relax and a bit of time in between courses! The main course, while pretty tasty, was ushered up within minutes. The he tried to give me the bill without asking if I wanted dessert. Needless to say it arrived in double quick time!

We arrived in China Town on a busy Monday evening craving good food. having walked past the gaudy restaurants offering the standard buffet and dross.. we stumbled across The Eight and were warmly welcomed in. Amazingly friendly, fabulous customer service and a hand picked menu chosen for us. Absolutely delicious with fresh, good quality ingredients. We would definitely bypass the masses to return to this hidden gem that doesn't lure you in with all you can eat canteen offerings. Perfect.

This is the second time we visited Eight, which is a new Hong Kong-style cafe in China Town, London. A little like a traditional Hong Kong cafe, but in London. It has a huge menu of traditional Chinese food but you come here for the cafe-style menu. I have not found anywhere else in London doing this. You cannot book and there is always a queue outside and worth the wait. Tables downstairs as well as up - so does not take long. The staff is very friendly and helpful with the menu, which has so many new options compared to your usual china town restaurant. I managed to take a photo of the menu this time and attached it to this review. Recommended Pork Chop Pineapple Bun Beef Brisket curry with Volcano Egg Rice Chicken Wings Coco Toast - Amazing! They don't like you ordering extras later as they want to clear the tables, so make sure you order everything you want at the start. It is a little more expensive, but the quality is there to justify it. It's more aligned to something like Duck and Rice, but I think better.

Highly disappointed with our evening. It is a cold evening and therefore we were wearing big coats and we had to ask staff if there was a cloakroom. Not a great start already! Following this, the food was brought out so quickly and therefore not allowing us to enjoy each dish. In addition, after rushing our starters, mains and dessert, we were told we had to quickly give up the table for the next guests who weren't anywhere to be seen. They couldn't be quick enough to send us on our way! Given the price, you would think service would be on point but it was an utter disappointment. This was a dinner to celebrate a birthday and they did not make it special at all. Shall not be recommending nor shall I ever be going back.

UPDATE: We became regulars here until 2020 and were very sad indeed to dscover that it has closed its doors. A real loss to anyone who enjoys first quality Japanese food! This is one of the best Japanese restaurants in London but it is so authentic that you need a guide. The sushi is good, the usual menu items are very good but if you really want to eat well you need to choose from the blackboard with the day's dishes chalked up in Japanese. Marinated squid guts and tuna cheek are delicious and so genuine: you could be in a very good local restaurant in Japan. These kind of dishes are not found in most London Japanese restaurants and this is why Sakana Tei is special. Grab a Japanese or literate Chinese friend and treat them in return for choosing the delicious surprises you would normally miss!
