found it by accident, walked in got good service, nice wine, great food and had a brilliant experience all together . Can't ask for more than that, and the bill was reasonable too.

We have eaten here several times and what impresses is the consistent quality of the food. We try something different each time and everything has been very good. They only miss out on an "Excellent" rating because it's a little pricey.

Sri Thong, slightly hidden down a narrow Medieval lane close to Liverpool Street station, is a simply-designed restaurant much favoured by locals and City workers. (Upmarket) cafe-style in appearance, it offers a pleasing range of traditional Thai dishes using fresh, vibrant, spicy ingredients. Portion sizes are moderate—allowing the greedier amongst us to try out a few starters and dishes—and there is a good choice of wine at under £20. A bit more expensive than the several Vietnamese restaurants...

I've missing the crispy fish in the Tamarind sauce for quite some time so I took the chance when I was near the neigherhood to try it out again. It was as good as I remembered with crispyness outside the seabass and the flesh inside were moist - very tasty with the tamarind sauce to give it a bit of sweet and sour taste to this dish. The ice tea was quite nice although it was a bit too sweet for me to start with until the ice melted in the glass and it tastes just right. It was conveniently located close to Liverpool st station so transport wise, it was not too bad to get to. Service is okay, not fastic but reasonable.

A group of 13 of us came here for a meal after work. The service was very good and the food delicious. I was happy with portion size, but some of my male colleagues felt it could have been bigger! We all had a starter, main, dessert/coffee and 2-3 drinks each and paid about £32 a head - very good for London! Only one complaint is that my colleague ordered a vegetarian starter (pancake rolls) and unfortunately they gave her meat ones. However, this was quickly rectified. I would definitely return and highly recommend it.

Just had dinner with some friends, after theatre. Quite glad to find the kitchen still open at 10:30pm!The owner was very kind, however can't say the same about the waitress (not rude, though. Just not really friendly). The food was good and service quick. 17£ each with drink (no dessert) is a good price, too. I think that the price range here is misleading because I consider the price mid-range and good value for money.

Nice café style restaurant serving a comprehensive Chinese/Thai menu. Don't get put off by the mix, the food is exquisite. The only reason I didn't rate this a 5 is because the service was a little abrupt and the atmosphere died down as it got later. All in all a very good evening.

My wife and I ate here on Friday night. Surprisingly the restaurant wasnt that busy. To start with we had Chilli Squid - nice but only 6 small pieces of squid, . Peppered ribs were just OK. Mains were better - Moo Gratiem was very good, Ped Maow was nicely hot and spicey.Fairly good value but wish the portions had been more genersous.

I went with my fiancee during a weekend away in London. We were torn between this restaurant and an Indian across the road and looking back, am glad we chose here.We were shown to our table in the window and given the menu. We received a bowl of prawn crackers as soon as we sat down (which did end up costing us £1.50 despite not asking for them!!) but they were an nice snack to start with. We also ordered a nice bottle of wine and I managed to do the manly "first taste" trying to look like I knew what I was doing but all the time thinking about the Michael McIntyre sketch about wine tasting which almost made me spit the wine out with laughing! I did succeed however and I think I looked fairly knowledgable! The food cam out in good time and we both really enjoyed it. The lady who served us was very polite and always had a smile on her face. After we had finished we wanted to just finish our wine and have a chat and at no point whatsoever did we feel pushed to hurry up.All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable experience in a restaurant that I would happily visit again.

We went to this place as it was the closest Thai restaurant to our hotel, and it fell short of the mark. The waitress and manager were friendly and the ambiance classy, but when it came to the food, the dishes were either lacking the crucial complexities or just completely overwhelming you with too much. My wife had the pad Thai, and the texture was good and it was sweet, but it was missing the saltiness of a dash of gold mountain sauce. I don't know if they were trying to keep the sodium down, but the result was lackluster pad Thai. I had the sliced ribeye in, well, just about every exotic Thai herb imaginable. It was like a salad of basil, mint and lemon grass, not cooked at all. So the result was, well, I had a mouthful of mint or basil with the texture of steak. It was very contrived. The bottom line is that this place did not hit anywhere the mark for our Thai craving.

Turned up at 9pm on a Friday to a very busy buzzy restaurant only to be shown downstairs where we were the only ones.(ok it did fill up later!) ordered the set menu for just under £19 a head and I have to say it you couldn't go wrong. Mixed starters fine but small portions and the main courses were really much the same but have to say chef went a little OTT with the lemon grass in one of the chicken dishes (I had to explain to my friend it's not always served like that!). Overall 6 out of 10 but another one of those places where you only get for what you pay for.

Went here for lunch, food tasty (but only had a main each). My friend (half Thai) asked for a dish that wasn't on the menu & they made it for her. Bill was £25 for 2 mains, 2 soft drinks & service so great value, service not great but not terrible, in line with other café type places.

I really like this place because it has great Thai food. I love the beef mussaman curry, chicken and cashew nuts, sticky rice, duck in tamarind sauce, prawns in a variety of sauces, great ribs and satay. Reasonably priced drinks too. Really good quick service in a nice basic surrounding. It's tucked away just off Bishopgate a 2 minute walk from Liverpool station. Go to this ace for the food either lunch or dinner.

I went to this restaurant for lunch, got locked in the bathroom, spent a while screaming and banging the door for help Then the manager came, couldn't do anything, got someone to try to destroy the door with a hatch which finally got me outside. When I got out, no one from the staff went to see me right away to find out if I was okay or needed anything although I was near to having a panic attack. The manager came to find out if I was alright much later having serving other tables in a not-so-busy time. I got to eat the food and then received the bill! There was a real lack of empathy and customer care. A real pity.

As a regular at 'the thong' probably a little biased but I just love the home cooked family run feel. Last visit met chef Jack - tattooed, abrubt and no smile and only one love - Thai cooking. I can take the grey face - his smiling staff make up for that....and the food. His food is everything and more you expect from a land that draws together flavours from China and India. I had the green curry - fiery and rich in a traditional roti my sister had a Larb Nua salad - heavily veined Scottish rib eye cooked rare (to our order) with a fragrant, zesty lime and mint salad. Wines are very respectable - we had a £20 Spanish Albarino (managers tip). Desserts are light and simple - Moorish Affogato - hot espresso over vanilla pod ice cream in a tumbler was a pleasing finish.

Eaten in here a few times. Although it is almost like a 'cafe setting' it is good, tasty Thai food and I have only really had 1 slightly dodgey experience in here where my food was completely covered in fish sauce! The other several times I have been have been generally good. The Thai red curry is lovely with a few extra green chillis added to it. Definitely would recommend.

I have eaten in Sri Thong on a number of occasions and always really enjoyed the food there. However last night when we visited, I think the chef mustn't have turned up. The starters were ok but the mains were really poor. I had green chicken curry, which was awful. It was really thin with no hint of coconut milk or spices. My husband had a red duck curry which was really poor with very little meat. The waitress was also miserable and didn't manage a smile once. What a shame this place has gone off.

Not sure the last reviewer went to the right place. I found the food fantastic and great value given the complexity of fresh ingredients. Many UK thai restaurants skip the authentic fresh thai herbs and roots - clearly not sri thong. Would recommend the Goong Pao Panang - giant prawns with a rich red curry and cashew nut topping. My wife had the Ped Makarm - roast duck slices with a tamarind and lemon topping with a zesty sweet & sour flavour. Service was friendly and relaxed - will certainly be back soon

I can honestly say today I’ve had one of the most bland Thai meals ever! Now that is a word I’d never have thought I would have used for Thai food!I really wouldn’t bother! When I go to new Thai restaurants (Thai food being one of my favourites) there are normally key dishes that I will order to rate them on those dishes.I started with tom yam with prawns – I asked for it extra spicy as I like it as the Thais eat and not how they tone it down for foreigners. The prawns were like rubber and all the actual soup tasted of was fish sauce and wasn’t in the least bit spicy – I couldn’t see any chillies in it at all! My dad had chicken satay which was adequate but the satay sauce wasn’t very nice. For mains we ordered a Thai beef salad – again very bland but a nice cut of beef but the strips were far too thick. I asked the waitress for extra chillies – normally you would get this as a Thai condiment but they had to go to the kitchen to get this! We also had a green curry which was the most tasteless thing I’ve ever eaten, there was no chilli heat and the sauce tasted like it had been watered down. We also had weeping tiger that is normally delicious but the steak was in great big chunks and the dipping sauce – which I normally can’t get enough of, was horrible. All in all over priced and possibly one of the worst Thai meals I’ve had

We were only in London for a short time. There’s loads of Chinese food to choose from nearby, but someone recommended Tao Tao Ju. I’d never had dim sum before but was thoroughly impressed. My wife was delighted to find they cheung fun, something we can’t find even find in our home state. I’m saddened that I don’t have more time in London or I would be back tomorrow. Highly recommend.

I used to love to go to this restaurant whenever I stayed at the hotel. So it was my normal place to go for a quick dinner as soon as I arrived. The atmosphere has changed the food did not have great taste The quality was simply not there.
