Based on the others' reviews we had big expectations but unfortunately food and service were both disappointments! I would not recommend to anybody. Clearly overpriced.

really good consistent food. the duck noodles soup (aka siu ngup tong mee) is one of my favorites. nice broth, al dente noodles and tasty duck slices. dont forget the salt & pepper squid - crispy and succulent. great service too.

If this is the place I am remembering, it was a great experience. The food was good and plentiful. We were initially a little put off by ordering a whole meal set (i.e. ordering option 1 with a minimum of four persons that includes a non-substitutable course set). Lucky for me and my guests, all of it was awesome.

UPDATE: We became regulars here until 2020 and were very sad indeed to dscover that it has closed its doors. A real loss to anyone who enjoys first quality Japanese food! This is one of the best Japanese restaurants in London but it is so authentic that you need a guide. The sushi is good, the usual menu items are very good but if you really want to eat well you need to choose from the blackboard with the day's dishes chalked up in Japanese. Marinated squid guts and tuna cheek are delicious and so genuine: you could be in a very good local restaurant in Japan. These kind of dishes are not found in most London Japanese restaurants and this is why Sakana Tei is special. Grab a Japanese or literate Chinese friend and treat them in return for choosing the delicious surprises you would normally miss!

Highly disappointed with our evening. It is a cold evening and therefore we were wearing big coats and we had to ask staff if there was a cloakroom. Not a great start already! Following this, the food was brought out so quickly and therefore not allowing us to enjoy each dish. In addition, after rushing our starters, mains and dessert, we were told we had to quickly give up the table for the next guests who weren't anywhere to be seen. They couldn't be quick enough to send us on our way! Given the price, you would think service would be on point but it was an utter disappointment. This was a dinner to celebrate a birthday and they did not make it special at all. Shall not be recommending nor shall I ever be going back.

Completely adequate Chinese restaurant serving an overly large menu. Everything nice enough, nothing outstanding. Noodles had some wok hei but not memorable.
