Impressive. Quaint village pub, very old. Pleasant pint and excellent food. I understand the pub is extremely popular with the locals although when I was there it was late in the lunchtime period but the pub was well attended. Mine hosts very welcoming, it was a hour and a half drive away from my home but I will call in again if I’m in the area. The host and hostess have only been there a year I;understand and I do expect them to be very successful judging from what I’ve seen on my brief visit.

According to their website The Eight Bells is closed throughout the summer. "After three difficult years, we have been forced to make the very difficult decision to shut the pub in the short term to protect its long-term future. We are working very hard to find a practical solution for reopening as soon as possible in the autumn and will keep you updated via our website, social media platforms and through the Crendon Crier."

You feel at home here as soon as you enter. This is a well run, warm and friendly typical village pub. I enjoyed a relaxed lunch here with my two daughters and the landlady was good enough to allow me to order a ‘pensioner portion’ of their very excelled tempura battered haddock and fries - fresh, hot and beautifully crispy batter, washed down by a glass of her recommended Romanian Merlot. Superb. A lovely lunch, a caring hostess, delightful company - one I won’t forget and, I hope, one I will repeat in the none to distant future.

Slight mix-up over our booking, but, all sorted out with aplomb and grace. Sam, the landlady / manager coped extremely well with our complicated order (lots of swaps eg dauphinoise potatoes instead of mash, three starters instead of starter and mains etc). Service impeccable, food utterly delicious. Interesting wines, including a delicious Romanian Merlot. Very subtle piped music. Cannot fault anything!

Visited the pub on Monday, 16th August 2021. Had previously visited the pub regularly before it was taken over by Moogies. Admittedly, the last time we visited was April 2019. Venue was cold, back door open which we continually got up to close then someone opened again. I realise this may be Covid precautions but perhaps move the tables around so they're not in direct breeze from the outside. Service good. Ham, egg & chips good, plenty of ham hock. Burger ok, nothing special. Applewood smoked cheddar Mac & Cheese really disappointing. Had to send it back as it had no taste of cheese whatsoever - usually smoked cheese is quite strong so would have expected some taste. The 'cheese' sauce was also very runny and watery. No argument when we sent it back saying no taste of cheese. Waitress came back saying there was cheddar in it - perhaps they'd forgotten the smoked cheddar?? No argument when I said I wasn't paying for it. Really disappointed as this is a venue we usually enjoy going to when visiting the cemetery just up the road. Do not feel inclined to visit again.

We had a lovely meal here, very friendly staff, and attentive (nice to see that although Covid restrictions have been removed, staff are still wearing masks (no requirement for visitors to), they also still had hand sanitizer available- you felt very safe. Our food was heaven! We had venison kofta and Mac n cheese as starters, very tasty and beautiful texture, I had the red lentil and coconut curry, with chicken, and I’d say one of the best curry’s I’ve ever had, absolutely beautiful! Hubby had loin of venison for main, and he loved it. I didn’t have room for dessert, so had an espresso martini instead which was amazing and hubby had orange and lemon tiramisu, again, lovely! Lovely relaxed atmosphere and professional and clearly with very high standards on their food! We will be going back!

We have visited this pub before and always enjoyed our visits. We both decided to have king prawn linguine, having had it before and enjoyed it. However, on this occasion the prawns were totally ‘shell on’ which completely changed the whole experience. ‘Tail on’ is just about OK but for £14 I don’t expect to have to peel the (4) prawns myself! Having mentioned it to the waiter I was expecting him to take it back to the kitchen to take the shells off. My wife was offered either a medium or large glass of wine and at £7.50 for a glass of Sauvignon it seemed a bit steep. I thought by law, 125 ml glasses should be offered as well? Will go back as we’ve enjoyed eating there before but disappointed this time around

The Eight Bells (nothing to do with the nautical term) is in the old part of Long Crendon village, worth a visit to anyone who likes to see traditional residential buildings. It's also well positioned for the footpath to Chearsley and back (about 4 miles round trip on the Thame Valley Walk). Our lunch was part-subsidised by the Chancellor's "Help out to eat out" scheme: the last day of that scheme was also a bank holiday , so it was unsurprising that the dining area was full. What with that and the assiduous efforts made by the staff to cleanse tables between each patron and to maintain distancing protocols, we can forgive the delays in getting served and in preparing courses. Based on our experience we will definitely go again although at a less hectic time, probably with visitors because Long Crendon is one of the most picturesque villages in the Thame / Aylesbury area. The pub is dog-friendly. The food itself was well-prepared, although the individual dishes were on the small side - neither of us is a big eater but we cleaned our plates and had room for more. (I could do without the food being piled up in a sort of hamburger shape, leaving acres of bare plate round the outside - isn't that rather passe these days?)On the whole a very positive experience and even without the exchequer's discount, not bad value.

Sat in the beautiful garden & ordered lunch at the bar from the very smiley staff. Unfortunately there was a slight slip up in my order meaning I had to eat a bit later than my partner. Forget the over priced, over pretentious Angel - the Eight Bells is far and away the best pub in Long Crendon. It gets the balance between being a classy food venue and a traditional village pub just about right. Internally there are two rooms: a main bar that oozes character with its ancient oak beams and original tiled floor and a smaller snug cum public bar where the local tend to congregate for drinks. There is a nook within the main bar with a single table, dedicated to Crendon Morris Men who use the venue as their base, featuring several photographs of the side at various times during their history. There is also a lovely beer garden. Four handpumps offer the locally brewed XT Four plus other varying ales mostly from smaller breweries. The menu features a wide range of mid-priced dishes that should include something for everyone, with all the usual pub classics, steaks, burgers, pizzas (also available for take-away), lunchtime ciabattas and, best of all, a seasonal selection which changes dialy - the pan fried ling with fresh samphire (£14.95) went down very nicely. Service isn't the quickest here but the staff are very welcoming and friendly.

Set on one of the best looking street in the country the Eight Bells looks like the place that would be a joy to visit. We were surprised to find a rather bland interior in need of a little TLC. It is an old pub and takes pleasure in informing you of its heritage. Staring as the Five Bells in year dot and only becoming the 8 Bells in 1771 when the local church upgraded their bells to the delight of local campanologists.Service good and efficient. The beer - I am reliably informed - is well kept too. A great place to come for a good meal without pretension!

We popped in here for dinner while staying in the village and had a lovely meal with many very friendly locals around. Nothing was too much trouble.

I adore the fresh pizzas here and the skinny chips are hot and lovely. The staff are always on the ball and friendly. The beer garden is a treat and, as well as the pub, is dog friendly - even has a poop bin with free bags.

Overall very good food, service, wine and beer. We asked for poached rather than fried eggs and no problem in doing this. Lovely service. One small issue was standard of chips not at all good. Address this and it would be excellent.

My wife took me here for my birthday and it didn't disappoint. Lovely pub not very large but separate drinking and eating areas. The service was very good and the food was absolutely lovely. I was surprised at the high quality of the food much better than I was expecting and much more than pub food and very good value as well. I had the pancetta and mushroom hash for starter with a perfectly fried egg on top a perfect start to dinner and quite unusual. The rest of our meals were equally as good and we shall certainly return. Also it is not always easy to find somewhere that serves food on a Monday evening.

This was a great recommendation from Trip Advisor! Tucked down the end of the High Street (Not the main street in long crendon as you would imagine from the title of the street) is this 17th century pub. They do have 2 high Steps to enter the property so people with wheel chairs might find it tricky (there is a path to the right of the pub but once inside you are greeted with a pleasant relaxed atmosphere. We where here for lunch so wanted something light. I ordered the shrimp baguette and added the optional fries on for 1.50. My baguette was generously filled with small shrimp and came with a small salad on the side. The chips where not over generous but where well cooked. My friend chose 3 items (you can also choose 5 and 7 items) from the sharing board, she chose the Marinated fresh anchovies, insalata di mare, smoked salmon. She did say one of the fish in the insalata di mare was a little on the rubbery side but over all did enjoy it and said would order it again. Service was friendly and efficient. I liked the idea of the themed evenings they have too but unfortunately will not be around for the next one. All in all a very pleasant lunch at a sensible price, I will be returning here soon!

This pub seemed true to it's heritage, and not like the Americanized pubs in other villages that people kept referring us to because we sounded American. (Not in the vicinity, other parts of England.) A lovely walk around the village just to get there, fill up, and walk home. Food was excellent!

Seeking more traditional pub fare, we skipped the Indian and Thai offerings also available in Long Crendon, and elected to hike down High Street to our B&B host's-recommended Eight Bells. Of note, they also offer car parking via their lane off Chearsley Road, which also shows a #110/111 bus stop at Needlemaker's St.The walk down High Street was an absolute delight of a variety of traditional English homes, from brick to thatched cottages, and the old Court House and a village church, St. Mary's, are only two blocks past them. The staff are most cheerful, welcoming and helpful, including delivering our food and drinks to the garden area, picnic tables set amongst the trees and flowers. The menu offers a wide variety, and we couldn't eat everything we wanted the first night, so returned for another go at it. In addition to a tasty pizza, we found one extraordinary special offering of a wild mushroom and pancetta "hash", complete with a perfect fried egg atop - breakfast for dinner! The steak was superb, cooked exactly to order at "medium", with delicious crusty chips, onion rings, tomatoes, a fat mushroom and peppercorn gravy. The interior is traditional and offers both a small parlour at the bar and a roomy dining room with numerous tables and even a very family-friendly alcove. In back, they have quite a few tables under a tent which would permit outdoor overflow even on a rainy day, or refuge from the garden dining area should water fall unexpectedly from the sky.Even on a very busy Friday evening, with a crammed full house within and a significant head count out in the garden, the staff were unfailingly cheerful and attentive, and the food nevertheless prepared and delivered in fairly quick time. (Booking recommended on weekends and hols)The village and particularly this restaurant are well worthy of a visit, should one find oneself anywhere in the Long Crendon area, conveniently off the A418 between Aylesbury and Oxford.

I visited this pub this week while in the area on business. The staff were very friendly and the customers were welcoming. The food was very good, the usual pub grub with the option of pizza as well, which looked lovely. They had a quiz on the night that I went but didn't have the time to join in :-(.Thoroughly recommend this place

Pub used by many of the locals. Varied menu which changes seasonally, pizzas were very good and they offer a takeaway service too. Well kept beer. Able to sit outside in a pleasant garden.

Our office stopped by here on a visit to nearby Turn End for lunch. The staff were very welcoming, there is a good selection of beers, lagers and ciders on tap at the bar and an extensive pub lunch menu. Very pleasant sun trap of a walled garden and the food was very good across our group of 10. I would not hesitate to eat here again the next time I am in the area.

The pub is just beautifully charming - low beamed ceilings, flagstone floors. The staff couldn't be more helpful. 4 types of real beer (ale) on tap, all well cared for and served at the right temperature (yes I tried them all!). And great food: either traditional quality pub grub, or pizza's, freshly prepared on the premises in a proper pizza oven!Superb garden and patio - really very good indeed! Family friendly.Highly recommended to unwind and enjoy life!

Lovely old village pub with small rooms and a bit of a squeeze for a seat to enjoy a beer or two. Small courtyard style outdoor seating area, which lead on to a car park.

Arriving without booking we were made to feel very welcome. After a glass of wine and chat by the fire we moved to the restaurant for our meal. We asked for a whitebait starter which was not on the menu. The chef kindly performed the miracle for us. We were served extremely well by the polite, cheerful and friendly Rhys. Overall, the food was really good and the relaxing atmosphere just what we needed. We'll be back!
