A local village pub. Very friendly and it needs to be supported or the village will lose it. Good food and friendly service, worth a visit 😁

We’ve been in the Eight Bells for lunch a couple of times in the last month and the food was great and very good value for money. The owners are really welcoming and the service was great, the meals were always served for all of us at the same time. And they are also dog-friendly. We will definitely go back there.

Part of a large group booking. Bar service was quick & efficient despite us being a large group. Food was mixed. I had the burger & for £17 I was disappointed. The meat patty was dry, the bun was burnt and it was not great at all. The French fries were fine but literally a pot of fries & a burger for £17 is rather pricey in my experience! Others in the group had other items and seemed happy so perhaps I chose the wrong thing. Waiting staff were pleasant.

We have often wondered what this pub was like as we drove by, but the entrance is quite difficult to see until you are passing. Make the effort as we did though! The building is interesting with interesting nooks and the staff are welcoming and helpful. The menu gives good variety without being overwhelming. Our choices were well served and perfectly cooked and presented. Beer is excellent. The atmosphere is friendly and enhances the meal. The toilets are modern, well maintained and spotlessly clean. Visited with friends last night. Service was very slow especially considering the restaurant was quiet. The restaurant prides itself on being enviromentally friendly and to cut down on waste has a QR code on the table to access there menus online this clearly states it is updated every day but when 2 of our party tried to order the steak was told this was not actually on the menu. So they ordered the wild venison steak at £18 from the menu instead. you can imagine our surprise when the bill was presented to us at £20 more than was expected. On Querying this was told that the online menu we had ordered from was only a sample menu and was then shown a paper menu with the veal prices at £28 not £18 obviously refused to pay this inflated price (I have checked again this morning and this price is still listed) would recommend if you are going to eat here you carefully check your bill before paying

Stopping by at this pub en route to my airbnb just outside of the village. It’s a nice and cosy pub and the proprietor (?) was very polite and accomodating, he enquired in the kitchen about whether a meal was vegan. Also gave me their wifi code as the reception was pretty bad. The meal (I had their vegan burger with fries) was great and their own ale was good, too. Will definitely come back during my stay.

Such a lovely, friendly, well kept pub. The food is incredible, well judged prone and all round satisfying, and reasonably priced, especially for the area. The beer selection has really been thought about, there's something for everyone, but not just the usual lineup. This 17th century inn was originally called the five bells untill the church added 3 more bells in the tower so changed its name to its current 8 bells in 1771. Entrance to the front of the pub is a challenge for the less able but you can access the pub and carpark from chearsley road. Where there are just 2 smaller steps down to the bar inside the pub. We received a warm welcome and ordered the scampi and fish and chips from the comprehensive menu. They did give an option for half portions which was a nice touch as you don't always want a large meal in the middle of the day. Needless to say we went for the full portions! When the food first arrived I thought the scampi portion was a little on the small size imo however everything was well cooked including the chips which where nice and crisp. Peas also tasted nice and fresh and not over cooked. See pic The person I was with had the fish and chips, a decent portion which had nice crisp thin batter and crisp chips. She had opted to go for the peas rather than mushy peas which they where happy to substitute. See pic A minor thing, but I appreciated the fact that you actually get a ketchup bottle rather than a tiny thimble of condiment, so commonly given out now in quite a few pubs I visit! Over all I would highly recommend this pub. Lovely old building full of character a warm welcome and great pub food! There is also a pub garden at the rear for Al fresco dining.

Good atmosphere, and locally brewed beer. The building is Elisabethan, but even though the ceiling is low, it is still high enough for a six-footer. Being as the pub was built 400 years before the public access laws it means no easy access for wheelchairs and assistance is required. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the village. I would recommend this pub, but I have taken a star away because of the access issues. I think the rear entrance might be easier, although I never tried it.

Website menu vastly different to what’s being offered in pub, had tempura prawns which was around the £7 mark for a starter, 3 prawns in a standard batter, definitely not tempura by any stretch of the imagination. We had the steak and asked for medium rare, mine was rare and not to my liking, I returned the steak to the bar and informed them it was underdone. My plate was taken away and returned to me with my recooked steak, little attention was paid to the fact I had peppercorn sauce on said steak, so that had also been cooked on to the steak. Maybe they were having a bad day, but they’ve now lost my custom which is a shame.

Notice on there website offering free pizza for all customers if England win and they did! BOUNS! Tho we did order food which was lovely. However, never got any pizza and felt we we left out. Could be cos we were not locals. Ask about it they said we had it all on the bar. But weren't told. Tho a group in front of us were given pizza's and few were give to in the garden. Had a take away and wasn't impressed. Went a few days ago with friends thinking eating in would be fresher than eating out of plastic tubs. Shared a vegetarian platter with my wife. Thought it was a bit flavourless. Ordered the Chicken in a sweet and sour sauce. Thought the sauce was very watery and the chicken tasted off,the pinapple also lack flavour. Didn't eat any of it. Very disappointed and won't be going back anytime soon. It's a shame as it's very local and convenient. Staff are friendly but food let's it down Didn't say anything on the day. But I'm saying it now. I have seen one similar review to this and I believe that to be correct too. They need to up their game.
