Stayed for one night due to the stormy weather. Room was spacious, modern and clean. Great bathroom with shower. Lovely warm and friendly welcome from Kelly and was super friendly. Enjoyed the pool night. Customers were very friendly and good beer and prices. Kelly arranged for a breakfast bab to go at 07:00 and lady (sorry do not know her name) that was sorting out breakfast was warm and friendly. So overall 5* and would highly recommend it.

We stayed here one night Thursday, May 25, 2023. There is some confusion by a few others writing reviews here.... this is not Edinburgh Castle in Scotland, rather a seedy and tiny little bar with tiny hotel rooms on the 2nd floor. They do serve breakfast free with a room. They may serve lunch as well, but no food at all for dinner. We were arriving on the Stena Line Ferry at Holyhead, but by the time we arrived the car rental place was closed. Hence, stayed overnight here to get the car in the morning. We checked into our room on the 2nd floor - super tiny room (reminded me of a $25 hotel room we had in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania). $85 USD includes breakfast. No AC or ventilation fan in the room, so had to leave the window open all night. Noisy big trucks until midnight and then again at 5 AM. We were told to go 5 minutes away for diner at a Chinese place, but it was cash only and we had no British pounds. Staff here is friendly, but the teeny bar with billiard table is a hangout for seemingly lowlife bar flies. Easy walk to the terminal and car rental though.

We chose to stay here because it was so near the ferry terminal and train station and we had a very early start. I was very apprehensive when I got to the place and thought about changing. One of our party had had a fall in Dublin and was ibn a lot of pain. The night we were there the restaurant was closed but the ladies in the bar got us a take-out menu and ordered a Chinese for us. They set us up in the dining room and everything was great. In all my reviews I realize that it is people who make the place. The Edinburgh Castle has the kindest, most caring staff, they wrapped us in cotton wool and really took care of us.

Took the train from Crewe on our way to Ireland, overnight here at Holyhead. We gathered our bags and headed to our hotel for the night - 'The 'Edinburgh Castle Hotel' which is almost right across the road from the Station. It wasn't a direct route, we could see the hotel, but we had to negotiate a lot of lanes of cars coming and going to the port and ferries. The hotel is actually a small pub, it wasn't easy to find the entrance but we eventually found it through the car park (which was all dug up for new construction). Inside the pub, it was quite dark and there were a number of locals already into their pints. We were in Room 1, up a steep staircase, it was right above the front of the pub overlooking the port, she arranged for us to have an early breakfast tomorrow at 7am as we want to be over at the port at about 7:30am as 'check-in' starts at 7:45. Room 1 is a small room with 2 single beds and a small 'en suite' with a sink, toilet and shower. It is cosy and clean (we had no cat to swing to check the room size, but it is quite small). Only real issue was, while the bathroom had all shiny chrome tapware, the knobs themselves were all cheap plastic that sounded and felt like they would break whenever you used them.

the Edinburgh Castle has a certain charm to it that is hard to describe--The rooms are located up a steep staircase but the owners were very helpful in getting our bags up to our room. Although small in size, the room was nicely appointed and very clean. Downstairs is a small bar and a breakfast area where guests can order eggs...The owners were very friendly and helpful. We chose this hotel due to its location (walking distance from train/ferry terminal) as we were continuing our journey by train the next day. A nice place for a short stay for travelers who need overnight accommodations.

We stopped in for lunch since we had some time to kill before our ferry to Dublin. Bad decision. The place looks like a down-market transport cafe, with various bits of detritus from other events lying around. Kirsty who served us was willing enough, but was unable to cope single-handed with serving beers in the public bar and meals in the lounge. One of our group ordered a steak baguette, another asked for chicken goujons. They had no goujons, and no baguettes. The overall quality of the food was very poor (Kirsty explained that the chef as new!). Avoid.

Could not figure out the 4.5-star rating, but it seems that some people seem to be mixing it up with the real Edinburgh Castle! This is one of the most unusual dining experiences I have ever had we were just waiting for the ferry back to Dublin and wanted to grab a bite, but Holyhead it not a very lively spot on a Sunday afternoon apparently. When we got to the door the dining room had a sign saying it had a private function and when we looked in the bar it had midday drinkers in it and no sign of food so we decided to try elsewhere and after walking around for a little and speaking to locals it became apparent that we had no choice, so we returned. We went into the dining room/lounge. The staff was very friendly and we had a carvery lunch from a small unit in the corner of the room. It was soggy and over cooked but not very expensive so I guess you get what you pay for. Would definitely eat before Holyhead next time but if I wanted a drink in a dive bar this is where I would go.

This place does a fantastic Carvery on a Sunday from 12.00 to 17.00pm. A choice of 5 meats but you may only have 3 out of the five which I think is fair enough. The gravy is something else! It is real gravy and finishes off the food - like mum used to make all those years ago. Well worth a visit. It is a VERY busy place as it is close to the sea port (gateway to Ireland). Having been through Holyhead port several times over the last few months. I have seen this venue several times and final called in for evening meal. The outside is really in need of TLC and would suggest if done would increase the visitors. The sign outside said Carvery from 12 to 4. I arrived at 4.30 and went to see if food was still available. I was told they would ask the chef if she was still doing food. I was able to order and decided to go for the mixed grill. Fresh Chips, fresh cooked and plenty of it. There is a large space between the Lunchtime and the evening sailing and many people are waiting around if food was available later they may do the trade. Will try to call in again when in the area. Was very reasonable and would have paid more for what was on the plate if asked.

We visited here over summer, but I've only just noticed that I forgot to leave feedback on , whilst I was wondering when to fit in another visit! We were both delighted and amazed at the quality of the food here, and the portion sizes were very generous indeed!I think this is one of the only plaes that we have been to where the chef has personally come out of the kitchen to ask if everything is as it should be.. we thought that was very impressive! We spent a while talking to the landlady, who was lovely, and we were asking about the wall panellings inside the dining room, as we thought they looked fab, and she was explaining about it being family run.. and you can see the love and commitment that has been personally put in here! We were also told by friends that the roast dinner here is fantastic, but we haven't tried that yet as we bought off the menu. They even accomodated our fussy daughter with her food! Going on the strength of other reviews, we booked a table in the dog friendly area of The Crown. Having had and a 2 hour walk beforehand, a well deserved refuelling stop. Quite chilly in that area of the pub. Cheap lunch menu. Specials board more expensive. We had Scampi & fries, small battered cod & chips. Both came with peas. I had much higher expectations and was disappointed in the portion size(5 scampi pieces). Would consider giving it another try sometime, go in the evening and dine in the restaurant area. Pay the more expensive dinner prices, in the hope that the food would not be cooked from frozen and the portion sizes would be satisfying.
