Stopped for the night before the lock and decided to have dinner here. You can get bar food as a walk in for lunch and dinner but if you would like a meal you must preorder. Hubs and I had the lamb shank braised in red wine that was Devine- it came with an extra large family size portion of boiled new potatoes, green beans, carrots, and of course while in Scotland Peas. The veg was un- sauced and cooked to tooth🥰. Sister had the vegetarian haggis neeps and tatties…. She enjoyed it said the neeps were delicious. Small and tasty selection of drafts and a bar. The ambiance however is just super with a coal burning stove and the owner a pleasure- she had to leave for a bit to take the dogs out for their business. In the good weather you can sit topside or just off the barge- we were here in October so loved the cozy interior of the barge.

We have been visiting this floating bar restaurant over the last few years, we live local and often take visitors there because it is so very quirky in a great location. We have normally opted for the bar 'in basket' food but every now and again we pre order. It has been a couple of years since we did this and were exceptionally disappointed. For the price, which is considerable more expensive than our other local favourites, the food is more like a kids first efforts at grown up food. I had balmoral chicken which had a splodge of oily sweet gunge that also accompanied the haggis meal which neither of us ate. The rest of the food was unremarkable and lacked any seasoning served with a good selection of bland veg. The curry another member of our party had was a jar of sauce, he thought, with extra hot spice added. Too much spice, he ordered hot, not atomic, but was sweating as he ate. But our biggest shock was the bill with an average price of over £15 a head for a main there is much better food for the spend elsewhere in the area. Why did we not complain at the time? we are British - there was a pub quiz on and the place is just too small to say anything without interrupting it.Our advice - yes visit but take lots of cash and stick to the beer!

This quaint little pub/restaurant is a great place to stop along the Great Glen as you make your way between Ft. Williams and Inverness. The dining area in the cabin is small with only 4 tables as I remember, but if the weather cooperates there are additional tables on the open deck. Our meals were good, tasty pub-style fare, nothing special, but we weren't expecting fancy, just decent food and we got it. A good selection of beers, wine, liquor in the bar. Well worth a visit!

A lovely couple run this floating pub. It is moored near the locks in Laggan. You ring or text to book by 3pm. They will ring or text you back with dinner choices. All locally sourced. No starters as mains and puds are so big. We had haggis stuffed chicken breasts. Delicious. Came with a free dram too. They do a mean curry choice too. They also do a very hot curry challenge. You have to sign a waiver before you eat it!! Toilets simple but clean. Log fire. Dogs welcome. Not a massive choice behind the bar but enough to keep you going. They have everything from playing cards and books to light Sabres to play with for entertainment. Thoroughly recommend for a unique night.

We turned up here today for lunch, having emailed to ask if they were open as we'd be cycling, and it's long way from anywhere else to eat. Only to find a rather snarky young woman who said, oh, they weren't doing food today. We were starving! And I had emailed! But she just shrugged and said, well, we're open, aren't we?When I emailed to complain, the manager said that my original email hadn't asked about food, "so the error lays with you".I didn't ask if you had bubonic plague, either, but I'd expect you to mention it.If you go here, email beforehand and ask if they have food, if the lights work, if the loo flushes and if the boat has sunk. Otherwise, the error "lays" with you.

We have just returned home after three nights in the Great Glen, we ate on the Eagle Barge on two occasions, you have to book for a restaurant meal but you can pop in for a bar meal, on the Sarurday night we had ordered chicken with Peopercorn sauce, my other half said it was the best peppercorn sauce he has ever had! I had haggis neeps and tattles with a yummy Whiskey sauce, also we both had cheesecake, which just pushed me over the limits of fullness, we ate there on Monday night too, we phoned to book and we were sent a text with the menu so we could choose what we wanted that night, other half had the chicken with peppercorn sauce AGAIN, and I had chicken Tikka Massala, very very tasty, the other thing we liked about the Eagle Barge was the friendliness of the couple who run it,and also the Irish lass who served us on Monday night, AND the choice of real ale that was on offer. We actually were on the barge every day of our stay, so nice to meet so many lovely people in one place. We would recommend the Eagle Barge to anyone in the vicinity.Thank you

We stopped here for end of walking day beers and it was fabulous. Had read about the barge before we visited but still didn't really know what to expect. It really is like a cosy little bar when you get inside - a small bar, tables at one end and a lounge area at the other. Not the most luxurious of settings but a lot of fun.We didn't eat here but we did witness a young man successfully attempting to consume the "world's hottest chilli" to have his picture enshrined on the Wall of Flame. It was interesting watching Michael undertaking the challenge closely supervised by the bar staff and chef to ensure no liquids were consumed during the attempt and for a set period after. Several of us like chilli but watching Michael's discomfort was enough to put us off a similar attempt and spicy food in general for several days.If you are passing nearby definitely take the time to drop in for something quite different.

Visited The Eagle a long time ago when it was owned by a rather eccentric Scotsman who basically told you what you were having. We had a great couple of fun nights there and it was like sitting in someone's living room rather than a bar/restaurant.We knew it had changed hands so as we were on the canal decided to take another look. Alas, it was closed however and we missed it. One point however that I think the owner must address. It looked really scruffy!! It would cost nothing to tidy it all up a bit. Dead plants in the pots and a general air of dilapidation. When Gordon had it there were flowers all over the barge and it looked like a place you wanted to go to in fact it was fully booked days ahead.I hope the current owners up their game and restore the barge to its former glory.

We booked an evening meal (which involved specifying what basic items we wanted to eat so that it could be ordered in - fair enough). On arrival we had difficulty getting the (slightly dippy) bar girl / waitress to serve us some drinks but eventually got them and sat at our table. We were then somewhat surprised when the chef then came straight out of the kitchen with our meals already plated up. No discussion about how we wanted it cooked, no offer of a starter, no offer of wine, no time to relax and finish our beers. The food was OK - we've had better, had worse. However, the bill when it came was a bit of a surprise - pretty expensive for what we'd had. We won't be back.

The Eagle is a Dutch barge floating in the Caledonian Canal, and now serving as a restaurant and pub. It's easily accessed by boat (!), road, or on foot from the Great Glen Way. As you might expect, it is full of atmosphere, full of maritime artifacts, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. The sit-down restaurant is quite small - there were 13 places set the evening we called - and you need to ring up to reserve a table and also choose your meal. It's a good idea to check prices at the same time as you need to pay cash - they don't take plastic. There's no starters - just main course, pudding, and teas/coffees.The meals are simple food, simply cooked, and quite delicious. If you're serving a whole trout full of flavour, why drown it in fancy sauces? The puddings looked bought in rather than made on board, but enjoyable all the same.At just under £50 for the two us us including drinks and teas/coffees, it was good value. And yes, it does have a duplicate entry at http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g635692-d2089645-Reviews-Eagle_Barge_Inn-Spean_Bridge_Scottish_Highlands_Scotland.html

With the night and weather drawing-in, I was pleasantly surprised to find the pub open in off-season and ducked-in for 'a drink'. The warm and friendly welcome from the staff (Will and Victoria) and locals; combined with high-quality banter made for a memorable visit (and a few more drinks than originally anticipated). Will even gave me a lift back to the hostel. The Bar has a good selection of local ales, with a cosy layout and oodles of character and atmosphere.Next time I'm in the area I'll definitely ensure I stop by for another pint and some of their fare.

Very welcoming with a fine selection of Scottish ales and malts, friendly staff and cool decor. The barge is a great place to chill after a walk.

A Dutch Barge that has been converted into a bar and restaurant. Found this place several years ago, now we never pass without dropping in, always a warm welcome from Jan and Paul, who are now starting to enjoy a semi retirement, they still do a couple of days a week, don't worry though son Will with loads of help from Victoria will look after you. Food is excellent, local ales can always be found there. If you need help with what Whisky you may like, just ask, Jan will help you. They have some great music nights if you are a musician or a singer you will be able to join in.

We stopped off on our Caledonian Canal boat trip and the food was great, beer was great... all round a good experience. We've been meaning to call in for years! Glad we did.We called in in the afternoon, and returned in the evening. Very busy in the evening and its not the largest pub! So definately book in advance if you want food.

Visited for a meal whilst walking the Great Glen Way, if you are in the area you must visit, excellent experence, the food is very good especially the seafood platter. The chef didn't hesitate to provide advice on how to tackle the large dish of lobster, crab and other shell fish. One end of the barge is the eating area consising of three tables , the other is the bar area with sofa, confortable chairs, and wood burner. The chef even drove us back to our guest house after the meal. My only negative comment would be regarding price, it's a bit expensive, otherwise very good. Tip.. make a reservation.

On our boating holiday on the Caledonian Canal we stopped at this place for a light lunch and found it surprisingly spacious and friendly. We were intrigued enough to go again in the evening but make sure you book in advance if you want the better things on the menu as otherwise it will be bar snacks only. The meals are not fancy but are well cooked and presented and is good solid fare. Guests are invited to play music/sing/entertain if they want to. Thought the prices were a little on the expensive side but the cheeseboard for 3 was massive - ate what we could and we took the rest home.

On a recent trip up to the Great Glen we stopped in for a few drinks on our way from Fort William back to our lodge at the Great Glen Water Park, we enjoyed the atmosphere so much that we went to back for tea later that week. Even though we were a party of 9 they filled all of us with excellent currys ranging from mild to the extreme! Also the cook is an amazing magician with cards! All in all it was an excellent experience and I urge anyone you is passing to go in for a drink or some food! You will be amazed! Thanks again for an fantastic experience and atmosphere!

Vi kom en kald og våt dag for å se på slusene. Slusene var bare greie sluser, men opplevelsen ble den flytende puben som vi fant! Det var lite folk denne dagen, og det var sikkert heldig for oss. Vi koste oss i denne spesielle puben!

The exterior of this place is a mess and dosent look very appealing. However, venture downstairs and its very different. A decent selection of beer and whiskey. The basket meals are a bit basic but nice all the same. Our advice is to book a table or you will end up dissapointed like us. Service is a bit haphazard.

Best night out in ages, the food was beautiful in taste and presentation. We were warned of the land lord's "off days" but being cheeky was good fun. Our party laughed the whole time and it had a real family feel. The chef/bar man/waiter/magician/taxi driver was a great part of this family business, I wish that this was a place I could easily get to, but then this is part of the charm. Dont miss out, book early and stay late to experience this charming treasure.

4 of us stopped here for dinner and had a fantastic evening. Our dishes ranged from a Chicken Jalfrazi, Haggis neeps and tatties and a cold seafood platter, everything was presented and tasted wonderful. The after dinner-show was a plus, the young chef does magic and card tricks and up close you still can't tell how he does them. The Eagle Barge is not big so book in advance and enjoy good food and a fun evening.

You will be sure to get a great welcome aboard The Eagle. It is a unique experience. I had the hot sea food platter. It was wonderful and excellent value. Do not miss the "Barge Mess" desert of chocolate brownie base caramel fudge pieces cream. Yummy. The have a good selection of well kept real ales and scotches. The Barge encourages people to bring musical instruments and give a tune and the landlord may join in on his squeeze box. We had an unforgettable evening of good food, beer and live music in the most friendly of atmospheres. Be sure to phone ahead to check opening times and book a table.

Kayaking the Great Glen this very wet early May we came across The Eagle Barge, not sure about what to expect, we entered and found the best part of our journey. The welcome we received was genuine and warm, the beer was fantastic, the food wholesome and filling, the woodburner roaring. We actually stayed an extra night in order to further sample the superb hospitality of the proprietor Paul, his chef, and of course Beau the friendly German Shepherd. We are already planning our return to Laggan!

This is the only real place to get something to eat at this part of the Great Glen Way. Literally and metaphorically. And that's no shame because it is fantastic. The meals are hearty, healthy and great value. The selection of drinks is grand too. The folk who run this eclectically decorated barge on the Caledonian Canal are welcoming, friendly and funny. Welcomes kids, dogs, wet and dripping hikers. Not to be missed.

So pleased to find this welcome retreat in a beautiful rural setting. Made to feel really welcome, children friendly, food lovely, service swift, very interesting boat. Only wish we had musical talent in our party to play the guitar would not wish to burden the clientele with acoustic singing from teenage would b girl band members! Looking forward to our return

We booked an evening meal here to round off our Caledonian Canal cruise on a yacht hired from West Highland Sailing at Laggan Locks. It's necessary to inform the Barge owners of your menu choice in advance as the food is cooked to order from fresh ingredients, sourced locally. This shows in the quality of the dishes, which are very well cooked and presented. The bar is comprehensively stocked with real ales and a fine selection of malts. Our final bill was very reasonable, given the quality of the food and service. The ambience of the Barge is warm and welcoming, and provided a memorable end to our holiday.

Stayed at Laggan for a week in July with daughter and son-in-law. Went to the Eagle on the first night for a bar meal; it was so good we went back on four further nights either for food or just a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable evening. This is one of the friendliest and most enjoyable places I have visited in many years of travelling. A word of warning though, if you intend sampling a lot of the inns and pubs in the area don't start with the Eagle because if you do you probably won't bother to see the rest, it really is that good! Thanks for a great week, good atmosphere, good food, good drink, live music and magic at the bar; what more could you ask for?

We visit the Larder each summer on our west coast trips. We opted for two savoury and two sweet pies to takeaway. One smoked haddock and cheese sauce, one chicken and haggis with sauce, one peach and apricot and one apple and blackcurrant. The smoked haddock pie was amazing, the best ever. The pastry was lovely too. I’ll definitely keep my eye out for this tasty pie on future visits. The chicken and haggis pie was lovely too, both pies moist and packed with filling, great sauces in them. I’m not keen on sweet pies but we enjoyed them too. The peach and apricot pie was perfect for me. Price wise the savoury pies are about right for the weight. No shortage of fish and meat in them.

A star on the north coast and a must visit. Gorgeous views over the Kyle from the outside seating. Family run with great service and great chat, the food was fantastic. We had lunch and had to add the sundae to celebrate the sunny day.

We know the Tongue area very well, and like to eat locally, so it was obvious we would decide to eat at the Craggan, and i'm happy we did! The restaurant area is welcoming and clean, staff friendly, and the car park was easy even with a big van. The only problem was choosing from the menu! So many tasty things - i wish we had more time to visit again.. All three of us enjoyed our food, and we shared everything so i know it was all delicious. Thank you for making a rather wet evening so special..

Dirty tables. Dirty menus. My daughter was served a mouldy panini. Cheese in panini was plastic. Very dry tasteless cheese scone. Drinks not too bad.

It was such a pleasure to visit this cafe and a welcome contrast to the pre-paid accommodation ran by some racketeer at Ivy Cottage. We took one look at what was on offer and fled to next ferry to Mallaig. I went to school in Inverie in 1948- 49. when the priest had an affair with our teacher. He wnt on to become bishop of the Westrn Isles while she became an un-married mother
