The pub where the discovery of DNA was announced and where the RAF used to drink in WW2 - what more could you want? However this gem offers even more - beautiful wood panelling, great choice of ales and one of the best steak pies I’ve ever had . Very busy but a must do visit .

Read some of the other reviews and was very surprised at the low score. Went on a busy Sunday and it was very good. The staff were brilliant and very welcoming and the food was very nice. The peas were cold and it was a bit expensive in comparison to other local pubs, but it’s famous and in the centre of Cambridge, so what you can expect. I would recommend you go and try the food for yourself.

En hyggelig pub i Cambridge. Deres lokaltbryggede øl var lidt for tynd til min smag, men maden kom hurtigt og var velsmagende. Priserne var i den høje ende, men stedet har en god atmosfære

Been here many times before. Menu today was exactly the same as every other Greene King pub sadly. The food we were served was basic. I had one noticeable piece of beef in my steak & ale pie. Chips were soggy & slapped on the plate. My husband’s fish & chips were also slapped on a plate & his fish was tasteless & insipid. I had a glass of bog standard rose wine, he had a pint. £47 for my birthday lunch & left us feeling we’d been robbed! Our dogs didn’t enjoy it either! No dog water out in a dog friendly pub!

The pub has a nice historic vibe and the bar staff were pleasant and welcoming. However, the food was awful. First, the Chicken Kiev wasn't available, well fine that happens. We then opted for two steak and ale pies. They consisted solely of pastry and gravy. Neither of us found a single piece of meat in our pies. A really poor meal which impacted on our visit to Cambridge. A pub trading on its history and catering to tourists, here today gone tomorrow?

Curiously the people adjacent to us heard us giving feedback requested by the waitress and subsequently told us that they had eaten there once before but it had been so awful they had never eaten there again. My husband stumbled across The Eagle when looking for recommended places to eat in Cambridge. It is definitely worth a visit. It's located in the city centre and seems popular with both locals and tourists. There is a lot of history attached to this place. Make sure you go and see the RAF bar where the ceiling is covered in the graffiti of WWII pilots. I also like the fact that there are leaflets telling you more about the history of the pub, should you wish to know more. In terms of the food, the menu is not the biggest you'll ever see. They have a few vegan and vegetarian options and a separate gluten-free menu. The mains are around £12-£20. We went for a burger and fish and chips. Hubby said the burger was really good, but the chips with my fish were nicer than the fries he got with the burger. The only negative with mine was the tartare sauce, which was some of the worst tartare sauce I've had. They have a small selection of desserts which are £5.95. We enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding and the chocolate and caramel torte. Whereas the food is reasonably priced, the drinks were really expensive, but we soon learnt that this could be said for much of Cambridge.

The Eagle is one of Cambridge’s oldest inns, it was built around 14th century and has lots of cool stories. DNA discovery, ghost stories and many more. The pub had very good selection of drinks and food. And there is lot of space for sitting inside and there is also garden area with tables outside. The worst 4 plates of food I have ever experienced. The chef should feel ashamed. The fish was so burnt that it had been turned over to hide the damage, as were the potatoes. Sent back and a 5/10 burger replaced it. The Chicken Kiev had been fried so much that any juice had dried out and the breadcrumbs were solid and couldn’t be eaten. Two safe options of the Christmas dinner were also 5/10 with dried out potatoes, rubbery vegetables and gravy that hadn’t dissolved. The manager did her best to placate us but no self respecting chef should have let such a bad meal out of the kitchen. A real shocker.

A well known historic and nostalgic pub worth a visit for a drink but the FOOD IS TERRIBLE! Visited for early lunch to beat the crowd. Sharing starter of Chicken wings and goujons was dry and over cooked. Replacement after complaining was the same so did not eat. Main course of 'Crispy Pork Belly'has no crisp just soggy fat. Questioned and was told in was the batch of pork -Hello?? Special chicken and mushroom pie had one tiny piece of chicken. Manager said was down to supplier.Pork Belly was refunded. Spoiled our morning/day out. Tourist and Visitors please don't think all British food is this bad. The pub is famous for the discovery of DNA and RAF/USAFpilots from second world war and onwards. The pub obvioulsy relies on tourists and visitors for this reason and the interior does have a nostalgic feel. The food is overpriced and disappointing. Their version of nachos came out as a plate of fried greasy triangle dough bits that were covered with globs of sour cream, avocado, and unidentifiable cheese. The Korean chicken burger was a fried chicken thigh slathered in some kind of sweet sauce. There's nothing Korean about that! Both were sad versions of what could've been better food fare elsewhere. Forgo the food and instead, gather for a drink or two. Maybe you too can make a life altering discovery at the second oldest pub in Cambridge!

I noted, after guests left, the tables were thoroughly wiped down. Although I chose Greene King IPA there was a huge range of draught ales and lagers. Really lovely place with its history. But I’m afraid one of the girls behind the bar extremely rude could not have made it more obvious she really did not want to be there. Just no pleasant smile or hello or anything this was in the bottom bar staff in RAF bar were very nice especially the young man with the beard he was completely different. Food I’m afraid I had bangers and mash the gravy was lovely but I’m afraid they need to get good quality sausages they looked like they had been microwaved no colour or taste to them.

Me and my friend visited the pub on Monday, taking advantage of the Eat Out scheme. I ordered a steak, my friend got some garlic bread with cheese and a couple of ciders each. The food is AMAZING, compliments to the chefs! But what’s even better is the atmosphere there. All the team was so friendly and chatty, I really felt like I’m in my friends house more than a pub the guy with blue eyes who seems to be a manager looked like he has a great contact with his colleagues. Overall a lovely experience and we are coming back soon!

Beautiful pub in Cambridge, that is definitely worth visiting. Went there for a family lunch - good lunch options for meat-eaters, sadly poor options for veggies.

This summer we visited The Eagle Bar in Cambridge to see their famous and historic RAF Bar. As it was dog friendly, we decided to stay for a bite of dinner. The first thing we noticed as the regimental procedures put in place to keep their customers and staff safe. Upon arrival we were politely shown the one way system around the bar and outdoor courtyard and given clear instructions on how to order drinks and dinner. The staff were wonderful. We experienced excellent customer service, the quality of food was first class but most importantly at this time, the bar was spotlessly clean. We returned the following afternoon for a beverage before leaving Cambridge. Well done, great management and professional friendly staff. 10/10

Terrible safety measures being put in place against Covid, and the men at the door were extremely condescending and rude. I will not be coming back.

I visited The Eagle for Sunday lunch yesterday and found myself to be highly disappointed by the lackadaisical approach the designated "Pub Safe Monitor" took to his cleaning duties. I observed him "cleaning" after a table was vacated and prior to the next group being seated; it was an almost pointless exercise leaving many, if not most, surfaces unwiped. Any virus would certainly remain present from one group to the next. Greene King has publicised their "Pub Safe" policy but it is not being well implemented here. The Eagle is currently not a safe pub to visit. I hope they can up their game for the benefit of patrons and their staff. Keep away for the moment should you have concerns.
