I came back after a year and it’s still the best place to eat fish n chips in UK. Also the 28day Steak and the Vintage Cheddar Burger were also tasty. Would recommend to eat here! Also the place has some good history!

My husband and I recently visited The Eagle pub in Cambridge to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was a special occasion and the perfect spot for such a memorable day. Although I had been before, this was our first visit together and my husband’s first time experiencing it. As a doctor, he was particularly excited to visit because of The Eagle’s unique connection to the medical field, especially its association with the discovery of DNA, which holds great historical significance. From the moment we walked in, we were struck by the fantastic atmosphere. The pub has a warm, inviting feel that makes you want to linger and soak in its character. It is not just a pub; it is a piece of living history. The walls are filled with fascinating memorabilia, and every corner seems to tell a story. This added so much depth and charm to our visit, making it feel like more than just a meal or a drink. It was a complete experience. The Eagle captures the essence of Cambridge with its rich history, cozy ambiance, and friendly staff. We left feeling not only well fed but also inspired and connected to the city’s remarkable past.

Beautiful historic pub in the centre of Cambridge. Very busy so had trouble finding anywhere to sit. Drinks were expensive ,bar staff not particularly friendly but could have been because they were so busy. Biggest complaint was the state of the ladies toilets. Dirty sticky floors, filthy pipes which hadn't been cleaned for months! Couldn't wait to get away. Toilets need a complete refurbishment and a decent daily clean. Has put me off the pub completely. Surely a pub taking a fortune from such a busy bar could ensure that toilet facilities match the outstanding beauty of the pub itself???

Although I made a reservation a few days earlier, it was not recorded, and we had to ask 2 different waiters and find a table ourselves. The fish and chips were very oily, and the Aperol Spritz was not very good in terms of alcohol content. The toilets were very dirty and out of paper. However, the historic atmosphere was nice.

Visited yesterday with family, one member of our group is Gluten & Lactose intolerant & there was nothing on the menu that fitted her dietary needs. The most disappointing issue was the young lady behind the bar serving us couldn’t care less, she had a dreadful attitude, we left. We have visited many times & always had outstanding service & great food but this young lady certainly should not be customer facing & the menu’s needs to cater for those with dietary needs.

Sure, The Eagle is steeped in fascinating history — WWII graffiti on the ceiling, ghosts roaming the halls, and of course, the claim to fame of being the pub where the discovery of DNA was first announced. But beyond the lore, this place is a total tourist trap — and not in a charming way. We ordered the classic fish and chips, thinking it was a safe, traditional choice. Big mistake. The chips tasted like they’d been sitting out for hours, definitely not freshly fried. The fish was clearly not made to order — reheated at best. The mushy peas? Utterly stale. Honestly, it was hard to tell if anything on the plate had been made “fresh”. Also the DNA IPA is not the greatest, you can skip it. To make matters worse, the staff were unfriendly and dismissive — the kind of service that makes you feel like you’re an inconvenience just for being there. If you’re visiting Cambridge and want a bite to eat, you’re far better off elsewhere. Visit The Eagle for a quick peek at the ceiling and the plaques if you’re curious — then run, don’t walk, to a better pub for actual food and hospitality.

table not cleaned after the passage of 4 people drinking beers after beers... no explanation when we had to go to the bar to order and come back with our drink.. (we pay for the service.?!?.) I ask the waitress at the bar for a burger without onions, she asks me if I'm allergic, I tell her no, I simply don't want onions (that's all, it's still my right). not friendly. Frankly the head of someone who is too lazy to say in the kitchen that there is a burger without onions via their ordering computer or to move a little to go straight there... in short we return to the table and arrive my burger... with onions... and what's more perfectly cooked... ok thank you! Yesterday night at table 30, we ordered 3 large meals and got some drinks. I could not put away a whole meal, I eat sparsely at night and thought I'd just share some food from what was ordered. When they served our table, I requested for a small plate. I was met with the most disdainful stare ever! In a world where overeating is just as bad as wasting food, I thought a bit of sharing is something we all need. Clearly this person didn't agree. If the policy of the pub is that they don't give out small plates, then it's not the fault of the young person who served us. But then I'd suggest they rethink the policy. If not, some serious retraining and lectures on 'sharing is caring' would not be remiss for staff. I really do feel bad about putting one star for service, because the bar staff were stellar and deserving of 5 stars.

Love historic pubs and this is one of them. Had the Eagle DNA on cask and it was awesome. Sat outside in the outdoor patio which is covered by two large industrial strength umbrellas with heating units attached. The patio has about 10 tables and a group of chairs against the wall to accommodate about 50-60 people. At the other side of the patio is the entrance to the RAF Bar which has another set of taps and tables to sit. Overall, a must if you are visiting Cambridge.

The atmosphere of the historic store is very nice, with a warm wooden interior and gentle lighting that makes you enjoy just being in the space, but the service is mediocre. Unfortunately, to be honest, the beer wasn't very good. I think the store's original beer is a matter of taste, but when I ordered an IPA from my favorite brand, the original aroma was dead, the gas was insufficient, and I didn't feel it was delicious. I ordered a hamburger for my meal, and it was meaty, voluminous, and delicious. I think it would be even more delicious if you were particular about the buns. The first time I visited at noon, they didn't serve food, so depending on the timing, there may be days when they only serve beer.

The beer is excellent and the food is average to good, taking 2nds place in priority; constructively limited menu that covers most tastes. Rather pricey but typical Cambridge. Service is prompt but don't expect smiles. A little grubby and sticky; could do with major clean. The biggest let-down is that it gets too busy due to lack of decent North Cambridge pubbage. Very noisy sometimes with all of the hard surfaces and minimalist Milton Brewery aesthetic. Plenty of outdoors seating though in good weather.

We chose the pub as it allows overnight stays for Camper Vans. We had an early flight from Stansted and the location was ideal, near to our relatives. We were impressed by the car park area and got a quiet, fairly private space. On announcing our arrival, the manager was welcoming and took our details. We had our evening meal and it was really tasty. Lovely Katsu Chicken with loads of sauce, along with rice AND chips. My wife enjoyed her beyond burger. We had a coffee and dolcetti mini dessert for afters. Perfect as we were pretty full from the main course. The staff are all very attentive and friendly, especially Max who looked after our table.
