Poor customer service and the food had no flavour. The staff do not know how to speak respectful

NEVER AGAIN! Ordered via deliveroo. Got boneless curried goat roti that came with coleslaw and a hellshire shrimp Mac and cheese. Firstly the Mac & cheese has no shrimp or shrimp flavour. And from the pics you get a mouthful of coleslaw. But the biggest disappointment by far was the roti. Literally 5 small pieces of meat, takeaway container a quarter full, a few pieces of potato and the gravy was really salty for £14.95. Tried to resolve with the restaurant, who then told me to speak to deliveroo. After going back and forth with both several time I eventually got £6.50 back from a total of almost £24, this was for the mac and cheese and was told by deliveroo that my feedback would help the restaurant improve. So here it is, avoid and save your money unless you want small portions of salty food.

Ordered food, had 3 delivery drivers attend the establishment without picking up the order. Seems like they accept all these orders, have no management over them getting dished out. Gives the place a bad rep. Don’t waste your time on ordering from here. Better off going to places such as Good Life or Moorish Grill

Great food just so hard to find it

So sad what this place has become. I stood for 25 minutes - no service, just to be told a food order would be approximately 30 more minutes. Can we get serious? This is just a nutshell of the terrible experience. I’ve been a loyal customer for at least 6 years because the food is great, but the experience is depreciating with time sadly

My family and I hadn’t eaten all day so we came here. It was really hard to find as Google maps wasn’t taking us to the right destination 🤦🏾‍♀️ you can call the restaurant for directions though. We entered the place and waited a while for someone to serve us even though the place was empty. In the end we got ordering. Music was off putting but the staff and my family laughed bout it lagging in the end 🤣 The service started off with conflict but we got alright later on. You just have to vibe with them. NOW THE FOOD! Omds, I’m coming back. Definitely! We were so satisfied! Everything was too gooddd! The curry goat, brown stew chicken, the steamed fish. Guys if you wanna eat good, come here. As for drinks? … hm. Yeah you gonna struggle with that one. They didn’t have much in the back so they had to keep coming back to change our order. We got takeaway for others, they were quick in the kitchen so we appreciate that. In general, for our first orders to the table, they were taking their time with everything. Some of us on the table got our food way after people already started eating :/ Though, glad we came here 😌

After finding the restaurant with family 4 my partner and 2 children I was excited to try this trestaurant. However upon arriving two ladies behind the counter took 2 minutes to greet us and we’re just sitting talking behind the desk. When eventually seated it took another 10 minutes for someone to come and take our order. It wasn’t particularly busy but we seemed to be ignored whilst takeaway orders were being whisked past us The drinks eventually came and the ginger beer was pretty watery. After waiting for an hour with no communication from staff we still hadn’t had any food. A family of 4 that seemed to know the staff were sat 20minutes after us and had already received our food. A man went to check after we complained and another couple opposite as well. They apparently had lost our ticket and asked what our whole order was again. At this point I asked to pay for the drinks and leave as we had waited over an hour and my children were starving. We were then told it was ready and we should wait however no food was presented and they didn’t even know what our order was. Lady with a black cap was extremely rude 0 customer service, no communication and even paying for the drinks took another 20 minutes. Her response to the situation was “it’s not her fault” and when asked about the other table Reviving they’re full meals before us and other people who had been seated earlier was “the kitchen doesn’t work like that”. Even though she had taken our orders. The only saving grace of this experience was a man short hair who provided our kids with a free starter and something to take home as they had waited so long and were hungry. He was also the only one communicating with guests and checked our food. The lady with the cap even seemed to have a problem with him doing this and nearly argued infront of me. I would say she needs to take note of his customer service skills. Very clear she wanted us to leave and wasn’t happy he offered the starters free. The food was also not ready as they said as we still had to wait for the kids meals to be cooked to take home. Very disappointing evening as we were taking my son out for a celebration and evening was ruined. Other than the gentleman no one else was apologetic. They should definitely put that man in charge of the service as he was the only good thing about our experience. Couldn’t pay me to come here again. Stay away

Order took via uber eats 2 hours 15min to arrived, food was stone cold, Duchy refused a refund, as this was a re-order as 1st order was mixed up, uber now won't refund. Duchy attitude stunk, should of checked reviews prior to purchasing from them. AVOID.

Israel was fantastic and very attentive. All the staff were great and food was great. The drinks were lovely and jerk sauce bangs. The friend fish was very fresh and well done with good flavor. Thank you guys, your doing great.

Had food delivered on ubereats. Curried chicken was awful, tasted like a ready meal. The portion was ridiculously small. Please do better!

Usually I order at the Thornton heath branch and they never disappoint but this main Croydon branch disappointed me with the under cooked sweet chilli wings which I didn’t expect. Overall food was okay but luckily I had someone cooked the wings more for me because I doubt I’ll get a refund back if I went back. And they could have cooked the plain rice more as I had it undercooked as well

We visited a unique-looking underground establishment after receiving a recommendation. The pallet seating, while creative, was unfortunately not very comfortable. The music was good. Despite the restaurant being empty around 3 p.m. on a Friday, there was a noticeable wait to be seated, followed by another delay before someone came to take our order. From the time we entered to when our starters arrived, it took a full hour. We ordered two portions of prawns; one was mistakenly served cold . The jerk chicken was acceptable but nothing particularly noteworthy. The oxtail was disappointing. While it was close to being tender, the dish was overwhelmed by an excessively sweet, barbecue-style sauce, making it nearly inedible. For sides, we tried the plain rice, roti, and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese, in particular, was extremely underwhelming—simply boiled pasta topped with what appeared to be pre-shredded cheese. This place is apparently popular for its 2-for-1 cocktails, and the group of tipsy ladies next to us certainly seemed to be enjoying them.

Never received my order, wanting a refund. The restaurant called to say that most of my order was out of stock, that I have to cancel the order through the app and that they could not do anything to help. I cannot find an option in the app to get a refund and cancel the order. Not happy.

The first time I visited (about 8 months ago), we ate in and the food was really good except the Ackee and Saltfish which was salty. This time we ordered out and I was not impressed.The young lady on the till was new and it took her about 20 mins to put our order through. This time around, the Saltfish and Callaloo was too salty. The plantain was too hard like it had been microwaved, the BBQ chicken - I was not expecting it to be fried. Unfortunately, it was overfired, making it hard and the BBQ sauce was not tasty. The Guiness Punch was nice but too sweet. The dumplings and Macaroni cheese were the saving grace - they were delicious. Would I go back, yes I would. I just hope The Dutchie read my review and take note because your good is tasty but just needs some attention.

Awful from beginning to end. Food was cold and not well seasoned. Table wasn't cleared between starters and mains, so was very cluttered with empty plates and glasses. Service charge is compulsory even though the food and service was very poor. Deposit not returned because some guests were late and even the guests who were on time weren't refunded their deposit. Totally abysmal.

We were a party of 18 for a birthday. Not one of us had warm or hot food. Food was like warm to cold, service very slow. Starter plates still on out table as we were leaving . It had ruined our night. Then servicecharge was mandatory.... maybe because otherwise they wouldn't get any . Wouldn't recommend or return

Ordered a large boneless jerk chicken meal and the box was 95% and 5% meat. The chicken was bone dry and barely any sauce… so now I’m left to eat a large box of dry rice with about 7 tiny pieces of dry meat.

Ordered from here the food was dreadful, the chicken was burnt and bitter curry goat was curry lack taste and flavour. The rice was a microwaved congealed mess. The festival was well done but edible. Over the last 2 years the food has gotten extremely worse, such a shame as during Covid time Dutchie was very, very tasty.

I attended with my son but we go here regularly; we both enjoyed our food but the staff do always seem moody which spoils the restaurant. Also the music they play in there is far too loud.

The customer service was terrible. The young lady serving us for whatever reason engagement was below poor. I had to complain about a young man rolling a spiff on the table with my granddaughter watching. When I asked if he would mind not doing it he laughed and continued like that was his house. When I asked for a manager for someone incharge I was told there was nobody then to be told it happens all the time. I left Cambridge for that. Nasty and disgusting experience. Was not too impressed with the food you have to buy the roti and meat separately when ordering a roti 🤷🏾‍♀️Never heard of such. Order was also wrong. Had to send a meal back as it came to late. If u want fine dining this is definitely not the place. Terrible!

Takeaway, would never order again. Completely (not slightly) uncooked chicken. Red raw. Absolutely disgraceful and the worst I've ever seen. Never ordering from this business again and encourage others to do the same. This isn't just a simple mistake, it's pure laziness and lack of care. Ordered on Uber eats.

I am VERY unsatisfied with the food I received on Saturday 31st August 2024 @ 8:50pm and I will explain why below; Oxtail - the oxtail itself was VERY salty and not enough come in the portion (only 5 pieces & only 1 of them had meat because the rest was gravy and gelatine). In fact, the only nice thing about this dish was the gravy, which there was far too much of. Boneless Jerk Chicken - portion size very small, chicken itself was DRY & far too much gravy Rice n peas - both portions SMALL, (idk when dutchie changed their size containers) and not to mention, some of the rice was stuck together and tough which almost broke my teeth (so you know they scraped the bottom of the pot just to get this) Plantain - Alright, portion size SMALL! And when did the rice and peas stop coming with 2 extra plaintain's in there? Festiballs - Overcooked and tough This was the most disappointing order, especially with the money you're spending, I expect to get my money's worth. Worst Saturday takeaway. It's so disappointing writing this because in 2019 when they first opened, the food was really good but the service was rubbish (waiting time was 2hrs for food; at the table, and that was in an empty restaurant) but now, 5yrs later, they must think they're better than they actually are because idk what they're giving people, especially for their delivery services. I give it 0 stars.

DON'T COME HERE. NOT WORTH IT. GAVE ME FOOD POISONING! I went a few days ago, and ordered the curry chicken roti and mac and cheese. The curry was not good and very bony (hard to eat), the mac and cheese was dry and bland. The only good thing was the pineapple juice and plantain. The meal gave me food poisoning and made me ill throughout the whole night and the next day. I called them about this and they didn't apologise or offer any type of compensation! Unacceptable and terrible customer service. :(

I've been here and ordered takeaway here several times. The foods amazing but the service is hit and miss. Today I pre-ordered a takeaway on Uber eats because I'd knew it be busy because of carnival. I preorded at 4 for 2015 and they accepted . When it was 1945 they cancelled while the order was in progress. Bit annoyed as I obviously ordered for a alot people who were coming round . If you can't fulfill it let me know earlier. Next time I'll make sure to call.

This place is seriously terrible. Ordered some food and drinks via Deliveroo, 6 items all together and 3 items were missing (they never seem to have peanut punches in stock but made it available to order on this occasion). I called the restaurant to enquire about the missing items, they stated that they had already informed Deliveroo that they could not fulfill them. Upon contacting Deliveroo, they stated this wasn’t the case and would not offer me a refund. Deliveroo contacted the restaurant to corroborate my missing items, the restaurant stated that I’d lied about one of the missing items, when I definitely did not receive it. Never ever ordering from there again.

The food is nice but DO NOT GET DELIVERIES from here twice now a driver did not turn up and waited hours and had to collect it myself, asked for a manager to get a refund on the delivery fee I paid and yet no one has called back or returned my money. This has to be one the worst places to go to. Food wasn’t to bad when it arrived 1hr 20min since ordered, we had a table of 6, two of us had finished our meals before the others arrived. The service is absolutely crap, you would have got a better service from McDonalds or a street vendor. The takeaway service got their food before ours as we sat there and watched. They say support your own? But how can we with this level of service. This is why I don’t support my own kind in business. That’s why they never get any where because of the level of service they provide. Never again will I visit this establishment

Never AGAIN! I have dined here twice, service just about ok, My partner and I usually order takeout... We call as we are driving home and pick our food up on route. We were turned off this place a few years back due to the service and then recently thought lets give it another try... They were doing well as we would order from them at least twice per month sometime once per week! Anyhow, I will not EVER be going back there. Ordered food on my way home this evening and when I got home, it was the wrong order. Called them up straight away, and told them I received the wrong food. The lady was un apologetic and asked if I was coming back which I did. I told her, before I left home, can you prepare the right order for me so I can just go when I come. For some reason, she said she could not do this until she sees the food I was given? We get back to the restuarant and they put our order back in the cue, to be prepared, so we had to wait another 15mins once we arrived back at the restuarant, by now it was over an hour and still did not have the our food. Once we got our food, we still did not received and apology... Very very poor service...

Average food, not worth the price.

I came here as a treat for a friend but I won't recommend! The staffs attitude was horrendous, especially the guy that was serving us. When asking for something, it seemed we were bothering him. He just gave us the bill without as asking for it; as if to say we were taking long... We asked for tap water at the end of our meal to what the young lady working there said she couldn't provide as "the bar was closed". Never in my life have I heard the bar needs to be open to use a tap. I assume they stop asking their hands then?! It was bad service overall and the food wasn't all that.

Never got my plaintain, cabbage or festiballs with my bax meal, kinda shoulda known to check it before I left because the person handing over the bags attitude was kinda off & I know how dem tings go when it comes to.. my people. Shame

Ordered prawn curry with potatoes and butter beans along with white rice. Received curry potato with mostly butter beans and 3 small pieces of prawn.

I ordered 2 portions of jerk chicken mac and cheese and 2 tropical vibes sorrel and ginger juice. I received the 2 portions of jerk chicken which was very dry and full or sauce with I didn't requested. The juices were paid for but didn't arrive. The mac and cheese looked as if someone had eaten some of it, it came half empty. I will not order from this restaurant again.

Do not waste your time coming here! The customer service is appalling. We were not greeted when we arrived and had to wait 5 minutes before we were seated, despite there being plenty of empty tables. Once seated, we didn’t receive the menu for another 10 minutes and had to ask for it. We were never offered anything not water, drinks or even someone asking if we need any help with the menu. We then waited another 10 minutes before realising that no one was coming to take our order. We had to ask a waiter if we could place our order, to which she responded that someone would be with us soon. After waiting another 5 minutes, someone finally came. As we began to place our order, we were rudely interrupted by his colleague, and then the waiter simply walked away and never returned. At this point, we were ready to leave, but the final straw was when the waiter who had started taking our order returned with mac and cheese for another table that had arrived much later than us. It’s understandable that slow service can occur when a restaurant is busy, but there were only 4 tables occupied, and it was clear that 3 of them had already finished eating and were just drinking. Don’t believe the TikTok hype!

Ordered through Uber eats, I think the business really needs to review their quality/quantity and price immediately after seeing other reviews. My experience wasn’t terrible, there’s definitely better around and for cheaper which is my main problem, I paid £4 for a small and dry coleslaw - this is robbery, I will not be ordering again. The food was ok nothing special or amazing, have been going here or ordering for nearly 10 years and the quality has gone down drastically. I don’t like to see local businesses close especially as it’s been around for a while but they’ll need to make some changes for me to come back again

Considering food is so expensive, taste and quantity very poor. Received 5 pieces of curry meat, which were mostly bone and a severe amount of gravy. Taste wasn't up to curry goat standard either. They were almost closing, so must have received end of pot rubbish. Not good enough esp when they charge so much. We received discount from uber, otherwise would've paid over £30 for bone and 4 wings! Wont be buying from them again.

Birthday Booking @6pm 08.06.2024 Im afraid this establishment has fallen well off of the top 10 eateries to dine at Atmosphere:0 On arriving the Atmosphere was not very welcoming the hostess had zero customer service skills what so ever and I mean no customer service skills Service:0 Absolutely diabolical we had to endure a hostess with zero customer service skills all evening there was alot of back and forth that really wasnt necessary noone was seated on time and bare in mind we arrived at different times admittedly but still found that quiet bizzarre as the restaurant wasnt busy but ok we were served nothing but attitude and resistance from our hostess at one point she told us that once food was being prepared she was bringing it all out and any other guest who hadnt arrived would have to eat the food cold because she wasnt going to warm the food my question is why on earth would you bring out a guests food if they hadnt arrived and then expect them to eat it cold would you not wait for said guest to arrive before preparing said meal we wanted to order cocktails and juices they were literally held until the hostess wanted to serve them to us it was all weird the food was oddly brought out at different times even though some orders were duplicate orders Food:1 Either underseasoned or overseasoned Sweet Chilli Wings were nice Festiballs were nice the cocktails are nice Experience as a whole:0 plus a few dodgy stomachs!!! Took my sister to this restaurant. It was her first time, I’ve been there before and I always thought that food was yummy which is why I took my sister. This time 19th May 2024 the food was terrible and the service was awful. Look like they only have two staff. The chef and the waiter.

Went to this restaurant last night for the first time and I was very disappointed. The service was beyond awful, they took almost 20 min to take our order despite there was only 2 other sitting customers. Then when we finally got our food, after about 10/15 min I had to go and look for the staff to get our drinks. The food was ok but the oxtail was very salt. This place can be so much better if the staff was a bit more friendly and attentive to the customers.

The oxtail had too much salt in it, I had to water the sauce down therefore losing a lot of the flavor in order to eat it. For the cost of the meal does not match the small amount of food I got. I had 4 small pieces of oxtail, the small rice container was barely full.

This is a poor representation of Jamaican food. I am appalled by the food I have received today. The potion is small, where is the fish in the callaloo? The meal has no seasoning, and the rice is bland. You have to season the white rice! Fried plantain was burnt. I’m very disappointed. Tasteless!!

DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE. I used to religiously order from Dutchies between 2020-2022. Never had any complaints. As of recent I’ve heard reviews from friends and family so I was on the fence about ordering from there again. Today I made the mistake of giving Dutchies the benefit of doubt. I ordered oxtail & rice and peas, boneless jerk chicken & rice and peas - BIG MISTAKE. How can a restaurant INCREASE their prices and REDUCE the portion size. They used to provide plantain and coleslaw with the meals you ordered and apparently that’s no longer a thing. But what really made me chuckle was that they gave me 3 SMALL pieces of oxtail and a load of gravy… I paid £15.95 for 3 small pieces of oxtail, a load of gravy and runner beans and rice and peas and guess what? It didn’t even taste like Caribbean oxtail. It was as though they just poured some manufactured sauce into the mix. The jerk chicken tasted dry and old and they gave 4 strips of chicken. Considering I spend near enough £40 on 2 meals I would’ve expected more. I mean, with that money I could’ve bought the ingredients and made it myself. Oxtail is like £9 per kg these days and they had the audacity to rip me off and give me 3 tiny pieces????? Dutchies USED to be a delicious, reliable and authentic Caribbean restaurant that would never let you down in terms of value for money and taste. But after today’s diabolical experience, it’s safe to say that Dutchies you will NEVER see me again. A truly disappointing experience and you’ve lost a valuable customer.

Our family booked to have a meal at the Dutchie in Croydon. There were over 25 of us. Two family members arrived later and were served. The table where they sat wasn't cleared away for them to have their meals and while they ate their meals, the table was cleared. This was very poor customer service. The restaurant was partially empty and they should have checked that the table we sat to eat was cluttered with dirty glass, used plates and cutlery. I had to ask for clean cutlery and napkin. While the fish meal was very tasty , the bamy was over fried and hard.Customer service was average and needs improvement and training! Workers needs to take some pride in their appearance as they are the 'Ambassadors' to the Dutchie!! The Dutchie is not well sign posted and one could easily pass by without seeing it. I should hope that the management will make the time to read the reviews when they are posted as Customer service is at the heart of every business! The customers have the choice to return again or been turned away ! A little background music does creates a lovely ambiance to eating in a restaurant!

Went to this establishment 2years ago. What I remember of the food it was good however never visited again because the customer service was terrible and staff wasn’t particularly helpful and did not seem to want/attempt to resolved any issues that they were presented with. Left saying the food was ok but the customer service was some of the worst that I have encountered. Fast forward 2years I’ve ordered online (on a Sunday which I never do because I usually cook)…. But the food I received was almost inedible. Goat was tasteless and rice and peas and was an amalgamation of mush and clump. I ordered via UberEats. After waiting for 2 hours because my order kept getting delayed, I tried to contact the restaurant but no one cared to answer the phone. After getting ahold of the driver, the restaurant miraculously canceled my order. Don't waste your time with this place.

Just ordered curry goat. Very watery afew bits off meat but bulked out with potatoes the rice and peas wasn’t compressed in the container. Maximum 3 desert spoons and the bottle of tango warm. Look at photos. I really hope after heating this I’m not ill tmw. As you can see in the photos as soon as I saw my takeaway and tried to go on just eat no more orders so went online and said closed. Which leads me to believe it was the end of day scraps. Not worth £30 quid.

Most of the order was ok and chicken dishes were saucy but had hardly any ackee in the half filled portion with callaloo, ordered as a main.

I ordered food at 5.30 and it got delivered at 8.30! Absolutely unacceptable! When food arrived it was cold and did not look nor taste good it was very greasy! I would like to be refunded for the inconvenience

I ordered on uber eats and I got a trash amount. For something that cost £18 I got about £6 worth. The containers wasn't even full, there was space in both the Jerk Pork and rice and peas containers. The jerk pork container was full of sauce and had hardly any pork in it. The rice and peas container was only half full. I bought a large and got a kids size meal. Never again. Trash

What a disappointment! We came for food and drinks this evening and what a shambles, we sat waiting for ages to even get acknowledged , we had to ask twice for someone to take our drink orders, it wasn't even busy, our sides, ie; rice and mac came and we had to wait about 15 minutes for our main dishes, which then came one at a time and very slowly, the hellshire prawns were over cooked to the point they were inedible mush, the white fish was so undercooked it was like jelly , rice was dry and share platters were soridiculously small. we just gave up and sent all the food back finished our drinks and left! Dutchie has been my favourite restaurant for years, but can't ignore the dismally poor quality and service we recieved today! We asked for the manager twice and nobody even bothered to come out, we were a party of 5 out for a celebration and it totally ruined the evening.

Ordered twice from this stupid restaurant and twice they given us someone elses food and didn't even try and resend our order out, hung up on me half way through the conversation and then didn't answer the phone when l called back. So that is two sets of customes with the wrong order. They can't even hand out the correct order to the driver twice they have done this now, dumb people working there and rude. So unhelpful so rude.

Disappointing. BBQ chicken was confusing. Chicken curry was weak no roti delivered, plantain was old. Standard have slipped big time

Dutchie was really good at the start but now their Jerk is too watered down and their plantine is like rubber. No softness at all. Delly’s tops them in their food at the moment. Their festivals and mac&cheese is good though. Sadly will not be ordering from them again.

Reserved a table for Valentine’s Day and when I arrived they said that they were full and didn’t know when the next table will be available. I continuously asked the staff but they avoided me. I would not recommend booking here especially on special occasions since they dont respect the booking system (despite seeing signs for reservations at reception). Doesn’t really make sense.

Really lovely food. All the food was packaged well too.
