The Durham Ox in Erewash

We were given vouchers for a meal. This has to be the best meal that we have had! It was beautifully presented and perfect. thank you to the chef, kitchen staff and waiters and waitresses. I would highly recommend this! Thank you for excellent and professional service.

A lovely meal with great service and food at a great price. We had arancini, crab and slow cooked beef starters, aubergine ragu, lamb Shank, butter paneer and the burger. All the food was tasty and very well cooked with great flavours. Check out the lamb Shank picture. The service was excellent and friendly from the moment we walked in to the moment we walked out. Just a really great evening with a table of 8 of us. Thank you.

Best place to eat out in the area. Food is always marvellous and theres so much to choose from. The service is superb. Would heartily recommend.

This is without doubt the best restaurant in ilkeston, possibly even further afield for me. Personally I love the themed tapas nights, service is really friendly, the restaurant is cosy and the food is incredible, the presentation of dishes is on par with that of a Michelin restaurant. In fact I've had meals at Michelin restaurants that don't come close to the quality of what's on offer here. Well worth a visit.

Dissapointed...... Parking restricted to 3/4 cars in a street that sufferers residents with numerous car's and very limited parking. Felt like I couldn't go back out after arrival as I wouldn't be able to find another parking space Upon arrival I was told that there was NO BREAKFAST Despite the Internet and booking stating that breakfast was included No offer to resolve or substitute, even a cereal bar would be a greatful gesture Room smelling of stale smoke....... Not pleasant for a lifetime non-smoker It's a room in a pub that's closed until Thursday night through to Sunday Wednesday evening, private party playing banging music directly below my room...... Thursday was noisy as anticipated from the previous evening. Sink in bathroom blocked and not draining, I had to unblock numerous times in the week of my stay I'm sorry but I won't be returning.......

My husband and I came for a roast after a friend recommended it. We genuinely could not fault anything! The food was really delicious, generous and it felt like the chefs had thought about every extra detail. We could really taste their passion and love in the dishes we tried. My husband had the beef roast and I had some pork, lamb and beef called the Ox Roast. The roast came with buttery creamy mash, perfectly roasted vegetables, spiced red cabbage, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and delicious gravy. The meat was tender and my husband said it was like they’d given him thick slices of steak! The dessert was the apple tart with meringue which had also been recommended by my friend. It was faultless. The pastry was delicate and short, the apples were soft, and the caramel was buttery and moorish with salted cream which I could’ve eaten a bucket of. Completely inspired. My husband and I had dessert at La Gavroche a couple of years ago and this dessert trumps the Michelin star dessert by a mile. The service was fantastic too. As soon as we walked in, we were met by friendly warm staff. We didn’t have to wait to order drinks or extras as the waitresses were attentive but not overly so as to feel claustrophobic. Absolute little gem of a place! We will definitely be going back as soon as possible, and taking some friends with us too. Thankyou you all so much. You deserve every success ♥️♥️

Very good, friendly local service. Very welcoming and homely. Had starters and desert with the Sunday dinner. You got a lot for the main course, maybe too much. (Importantly, it was all hot, which was great!) You probably dont need a starter. To critique, the roasties really needed to be more crispy. The gravy needed more flavour, so possibly add some more stock, red/white wine, and a spoon of dijon to add that depth. Starters are excellent - crab cake and soup. The desert was very good - had the chocolate ombre and a fruit kind of bread pudding, which really was very nice. All home made. Would recommend.

A hidden gem in a quiet quintessential historical village . Emily as front of house and the Durham Ox team delivers at every level of service, quality and hospitality. This pub with delightful food, rooms is out of the ordinary by a mile . Just booked our next stay over with dinner .

We love the Thursday evening specials. I need to eat gluten free and I always have so much choice with the options, I think this is the only place I can share a tapas style spread with my husband instead of looking at "what I could have had"and feeling jealous. We last enjoyed the middle eastern tapas which was absolutely stunning in taste and appearance. The staff always make you feel welcome and looked after. I only wish we discovered the place sooner .

We ate lunch so can't say anything about the rooms, but... Five of us went for Sunday lunch, especially for an 80+ birthday. It. Was. Fabulous. Sunday lunch is something I avoid as so often one or two elements are disappointing - not here! Two types of potatoes, two types of cabbage, two other vegetables, 3 types of meat, delicious gravy and a crisp Yorkshire pudding. All served by fab staff, even the young guys serving and clearing plates were engaging and attentive. Really couldn't fault any of it. Booking essential, will definitely be back. Thank you 🙏

Thankyou for yet another amazing birthday meal for the family! This is our go to place to come for special occasions! Was invited for a meal by a friend last night and I can honestly say it is one of the best pub restaurants I have ever been to, the staff the food the atmosphere were all 10/10. Will definitely be back thanks guys.

We go on tapas nights, the atmosphere is great, all the crew are very friendly and welcoming, the food is fantastic! Well worth a visit a brilliant find. I can't comment on the rooms as I've never stayed but if the rest is anything to go buy they will be great.

I could not recommend this place enough! The service from the 3 girls in there, I’m sorry I didn’t catch names, was just fantastic. We rang ahead while we were on the way to see if they had a table and the lady on the phone was so friendly and accommodating. It was the first day of the new menu and both dishes we ordered were honestly out of this world. I want to go back…. Tomorrow! I would give 6/5 starts if I could. Thank you so much!

Beautiful place, Staff were lovely, I wish I could have stayed longer, Definitely will be coming back🥰 My only issue was that the bed was extremely squeaky 👀 no turning over, let alone hancky-pancky🤣❤️

If you're not sure whether to visit The Durham Ox, do it. They did a fabulous job providing amazing food for a group of 30 for our intimate wedding reception. The food was exceptionally presented on a grazing table and tasted amazing. Lauren and her team went above and beyond to ensure we were well looked after from start to finish. We will certainly be returning for a meal soon; really great food!

I've been today for a mexican meal. Four adults, one child. I've never been here before, but i highly recommend it. The food was outstanding, and there was plenty of choice on the menu & very tasty. We will definitely be going back again.

Wow wow wow. Had the pleasure of dining here today with my sister, as I had heard good things about the place. We were greeted and served by a lovely lady who I think was the manager. She was so friendly and made us feel instantly welcome and relaxed. All the staff were so kind and accommodating and it was like a breath of fresh air. The food was outstanding !! I had the lamb roast and my sister had the beef, the meat was cooked to perfection, everything hot and beautifully presented. What a wonderful experience it was, we loved it and can't wait to return. We finally got around to booking in and eating here after living in the area for the last 4 years. What a fantastic evening, was really nice layout and atmosphere inside. Service was excellent, food was pretty special and good wine selection. Will definitely book and go again as need to try the Sunday lunch.

Wonderful food, would recommend to anyone for any occasion. The staff you can clearly see enjoy where they work and this speaks volume. Of course there are cheaper places to eat in the area but not even close to the quality and presentation of the Durham Ox.

6 of us went for a meal here on Saturday evening (13/4/24)...menu was great, didn't know what to choose, and food was fantastic, fresh, hot and so delicious. Staff very friendly and service was great. Wish we lived closer, would definitely make this our local if we did!

I stayed at the Durham Ox on Sunday night. The room was very attractive and quiet, with a great shower, comfortable bed, and tea and coffee tray. I would stay there again.

Amazing staff and fantastic food. The Sunday dinners are great. Steaks are great. The themed tapas nights are fantastic. It can be quite busy during peak times but that's what you get when you're good.

We were a group of 12 this evening for the Greek Meze menu and we were not disappointed! The service was excellent, as always. The girls are so helpful and friendly and cannot do enough for you. But the food - oh my goodness! Every dish was beautifullly cooked and presented and tasted DEVINE! We had a Greek in our company and he requested to speak to the chef to congratulate him! That in itself speaks volumes! HIGHLY recommended!😁

We have been so many times over the years and never fails to impress. The staff and owner are so friendly and welcoming. The food is exceptional, we have been tonight for the Greek Tapas and the food was second to none, cannot rate it high enough, brilliant for a local pub/restaurant.

Went for the launch of the new menu and can honestly say it was one of the best meals Iv had. The staff were fantastic and the food was amazing. The scollop starter is on par with high end seafood restaurants Iv eaten in and the lamb shank main was also cooked to perfection. Will be returning again for sure

Great atmosphere, service and excellent food.

This place just gets better and better. We were there with friends on Saturday evening. The menus are changed each season, so you never get bored and always something new added each season to try too. The staff are equally as good as the food, polite, friendly and knowledgeable of each dish, nothing is too much trouble, the advise of a suggestion of which wine will best compliment your food is a great too. It’s a high end restaurant at very reasonable prices and is our treasure of Derbyshire. Well done on your awards team Durham Ox, you remain grounded despite your success.

Fantastic food and service here, they genuinely look after you. Might cost a bit more than your average chain pub food but you get what you pay for. Plenty of drinks options too which are well priced. Will definitely be back.
