After recommendations and having read the reviews on TA, you’d think your onto a good find. A family run independent restaurant that deserves your support…… you couldn’t be more wrong if todays pantomime was anything to go buy. I’d like to talk about a warm welcome…. I can’t it wasn’t Ushered quickly from the bar (without being allowed to order a drink) to our table 6 foot from the bar, given menus and told its not table service you’ll have to get a drink at the bar….. ok interesting approach.. Off to the bar and get a drink and order our 2 roast beef…. Do you want stuffing and cauliflower cheese….. well for £18.90 I’d hope I don’t need extras….. oh how wrong I was…. Our plates arrived…. I’d like to break this down because the errr….chef needs to know the truth Yorkshire - you have to do something really special to get it burnt and soggy by 12.3 Roast potatoes - are crispy and hot not soggy anemic and cold The carrot and parsnip medley was overcooked and tepid at best The beef - 1 sliced of seriously bad, cheap undermatured thick and grissly topside…. If your going to serve it learn how to cook and carve it. The plus side it was hotter than the veg The gravy, jus …. Now you decided to go the jus route, points for effort in using some red wine but then adding universal stock (water) and serving with all the grease is just not gonna fixed the rest of that dish At this point the manager returned with extra gravy and the requested sauces, I complained… she apologized and took the plate back. Then returned to say chef is re-plating my meal. 3 mins later out comes the new plate….. hang on it’s on a cold plate and he’s just put the same food back on another plate and now destroyed the meat under the grill. The manageress is obviously out of her depth at this point offer other food, which I sorry I just have a packet if crisp (which I am still waiting for). As I then sit and patiently wait for my friend to fight his way through his food I am greeted by a vision of beauty as…… chef makes an appearance leans over the bar to whisper to the waitress yes I’m treated to a lovely half mast view of his rear end, then shuffling around the bar to chat further with the uncomfortable looking waitress. As he passes back his gleaming and spotless hygienic self heads back to the kitchen. Such a shame….I’m gutted that such a fabulous location is being so let down but I feel most for the people who have pumped all their hard earned money into refurbishing this beautiful old building that could be so much more.

Went for Sunday lunch and I have to say it was one of the worst roast dinners I've ever had, the roast beef was so tough that I couldn't even cut it and the roast potatoes had barely seen an oven, my friend had ordered the same and his was stone cold and when he sent it back they just tried to reheat it, the location is lovely and the pub itself was nice but I won't be going back anytime soon as the food and service was so poor

We went to the Duncombe arms spontaneously as our 2 year old Son wanted a Sunday pub Lunch, being 2 he associates Mac & Cheese with pubs. So off we tried Duncombe arms as discovering the area. We realised there was no Mac & Cheese, on the menu. As we told him he got upset, the lovely waitress said she would speak to the chefs to see if they could do one. They were very helpful and provided a cheesy pasta off the menu to his delight ‘the lady is going to cook me Mac & Cheese’ he said. The Sunday roasts and desserts were also great and portions were generous. The pub was busy with large and small groups but had a great atmosphere.

I attended an event here in April and was shocked by the buffet that they had laid out. There was bearly enough yo feed 10 people let alone 150. I was informed after that it cost over 3k for the food! I found this outrageous. Thr food that was provided was no more than £100 worth. What they did provided was awful. There were so many hungry guest including children that had been there all day. Charging someone over 3k for food worth less than £150 is a massive scam and I would avoid this place like the plague if you're thinking of booking a venue here.

We attended a wedding here on the 30th April, which was a lovely day spoilt by rude staff and lack of understanding. We were told the food was out and not even five minutes later there was nothing but crumbs left. We asked for a bottle of champagne to which we were brought out a warm unnamed brand priced at £60… when I said we aren’t paying that I was told to just admit I can’t afford it and get something cheaper. I had started the night on Gin to be told I can’t drink that anymore as there is none left. Very rude and will not return or recommend.

We looked forward to this meal but it was a complete farce. We waited ages until somebody came with the menus. We ordered a couple of roasts and asked for horseradish sauce buy apparently they had none. My wife had a meal and asked for replacement vegetables as the ones she had were hard as bullets. We asked for more gravy as there was no more available. The Yorkshire puddings were dry. Every Time we asked a question we had to go to the bar to find somebody. Nobody came to ask if everything was okay. We had to go round again to ask if there was a desert menu. When they brought them to us they decided to clear the dinner plates that had been there ages. One of our guests suggested they may have forgotten about us.When we went to order desert we were told they only had one lump of vanilla ice cream. But they did have chocolate. We asked if they had child menus and they said they would take a look. As our party had 4 adults and 2 children you'd think they would have bought it to start with.Eventually we went round and asked for our bill. It took 2 hours and 15 minutes to get through the whole experience. All this time we only saw two staff who both looked under 20.This is something we will not repeat. Our regular restaurant was booked solid through the whole lunch time whilst this restaurant had 6 people of which we was six.A lot of work needs to be done.

The furniture is a bit old and could do with updating to match the trendy wallpaper, blinds and lights. I'm sure it's on the list to do.The service staff were friendly, welcoming and polite. The menu is varied and fairly priced. We all chose the roast dinners, they were very tasty, well cooked and presented. I think the dessert menu could be improved with a fruit option or a sorbet would be nice. We had no serving spoons for the vegetable selection; a small thing but easily sorted. We would definitely return, for a meal or even just to have a drink by the open fire.. It seemed like the pub has finally returned to a proper village pub which has the added bonus of a nice resturant.

Took my step-father here for his birthday. I had heard good things about the place so decided to try for the first time. We were directed to one area of the pub by a waitress, only to be directed into another part shortly after. The restaurant was empty, not a good sign at 7.30 on a Friday night, only four menus for a table of five, drinks ordered. Menu itself was very limited in its offering, usual country pub offerings plus a couple of over-priced specials. Food quality was good, hence the two stars but service was poor, music too loud and and the restaurant too dark. All in all a disappointing experience and one which I won’t bother to repeat any time soon.

Unfortunately half way through our main course we had to complain, due to the roast chicken having blood inside. I politely informed the waitress, I apologised for complaining. She promptly took it away for the kitchen to look at, when she returned all she said was ‘would you like anything else?’ There was no explanation or apology. We ordered desserts anyway, I was left feeling disappointed and let down. Having worked both in a busy kitchen and as a waitress I know how important customer feedback and resolving problems is. I would like to add the both the starters and desserts were thoroughly enjoyed and were to a high standard. So I requested the bill, still unsure of what the outcome of the complaint was. We were handed the bill and told ‘the blood was just vein, but we’ll discount you half the meal’. The situation was dealt with inappropriately and in an unfair manner. By this time a friend had joined us as we were heading off somewhere else and I lost the notion to discuss the issue more. Will not be returning. I know the difference between blood and vein and do not taking kindly to be spoken down to.

Always excellent, attentive, friendly, service and high quality food from brunch to dinner to Sunday lunch. We visited today for a 2 for 1 Sunday lunch and was actually embarrassed by the cost as the quality was far superior to most Sunday lunches I've had and 2 for £12.95 is a bargain that is too good to be missed!! This pub is a little known gem by the Cambridgeshire/Bedfordshire border. The place itself is charming, with a comfortable bar and a separate dining room. The staff are very helpful and friendly, the menu has a good range of offerings expertly cooked by Daniel behind the scenes from local suppliers. A good range of ale and other drinks make this our go-to place when we fancy an evening out. The pork saltimbocca not only looked beautiful but tasted delicious, and the fillet of sea bream was perfectly presented and full of flavour. I went with my family and 2 friends for Sunday lunch last weekend, there were 9 in total we had pre booked. We all ordered Sunday lunch and waited 1 hour 15 mins for it to arrive and we had one serving of vegetable between 8 people. When I asked for more they seemed surprised and told me this was a bigger portion to share with us all. I did a quick walk around to check on other customers and they had the same size between 2 people. My 2 year old grandsons plate was so hot it was dangerous and he had more vegetables on his plate than 8 of us had to share. Nobody came to ask of we wanted more drinks. We foolishly ordered desert and again waited 40 mins. This was very poor. After complaining very politely we were give £10 reduction in our bill. I know kitchens get busy but this is reduculous and you could talk to your customers and let them know there might be a delay. We have been here many times before and have always had good food and good service we received neither on Sunday the food was bad ( Yorkshire puddings were flat and very little food on our plates) so with regret I will not be returning and the friends with us are new to the area and potential new customers what a let down. We ate early on a Saturday evening (6.30pm), so on arrival it was just us. Only a few more tables filled up before we left. Service was good (can't comment for when its busy) and we liked the general décor. Food was average overall really, so certainly not bad enough to warrant any complaint but also unfortunately not good enough for us to make us want to go back any time soon. Everyone's tastebuds are different but here's our personal view. The crab cake starter was good, and our adult children shared the mushroom vegetarian dish as a starter (which was happily and easily organised by the person who tool our order). I had the duck spring rolls which are of course designed to be crispy but were actually overcooked, served with a dipping source that was very very salty (perhaps hoisin would be better). 2 of the main dishes came with a drizzle of gravy (appreciate that looked very chefy and perhaps enough for some but with quite dry mash our two asked for more gravy, which to be fair was soon provided and without question). The mash with one was very heavily flavoured, a bit too much so really. The liver was overcooked and the vegetables for those 2 meals arrived about 5 minutes later, and wasn't particularly hot. The burger and chips / scampi and chips were both ok. The sticky toffee pudding was great, and the chocolate brownies were ok.

We had booked a table on a Sunday for 12:30 for my father in laws birthday, we arrived bang on time to find our table had not even been made up so had to wait around while the staff rushed around to sort our table out. We thought this was just a one off and everything else would be fine with our experience ( how wrong we were). The pub was about half full and not overly busy at the time of ordering our food which went very smoothly, all food was available and we were not advised of any wait on food, we thought everything would be find so my father in law could enjoy his birthday meal with his family. After an hour of waiting and no communication from the staff I went to ask how long we would have to wait for our food. I had an apology and was told our food would be next out. Too get our food out only took another 30 minutes and that was to get Sunday roast meals out and kids meals. When the food turned up at 2.10 one of the meals was wrong (mash instead of chips) and we got peas when asked for no peas. All the Sunday roast meals were lukewarm except for the roast potatoes were scalding hot, and all of the beef was like boot leather and you couldn’t even cut it. We informed the staff about the problems and they told us they could redo them for us but having waited 1h 30 mins for the food we didn’t want to wait the same time for new meals, so we ate what we could and left. A certain amount was deducted from our bill it’s just a shame it didn’t compensate our disappointment. Having been recommended by a friend we thought we would have a great meal for my father in law but instead it was a big disappointment. Let’s just say there was no cake left back home as we were all starving.

Our party pre-booked on Sunday at 12:00 and arrived on the dot, to find our table wasn't ready - not a major problem, but indicative of the experience later.

What has happened to this restaurant?? After many nice meals here, we were came for Sunday lunch to mark a family occasion. What a hugely disappointing experience! Had to wait to order and then wait another hour and a half before our meal arrived - cold! Was so upset as this was a special occasion and we are not inclined to complain but the service was just abysmal. No one came to take drinks orders and we had to chase down a waitress to order a drink and also to check on our meal after an hour waiting - with a baby and toddler!! For the meal to then be served cold was just awful and too disappointing for words. Not a single apology or acknowledgement from the staff that we had had an terrible dining experience. Had they offered drinks on the house or knocked money off the bill at the very least, but they didn't even have the courtesy for that. We felt robbed blind to have to pay our bill at the end - paying for cold food after a 90 minute wait!! - knowing how the meal had simply spoiled a lovely day. So disappointed as I have enjoyed this restaurant before many times and recommended it to other. Will not be doing either again.

We travelled from N Somerset to meet my sisters/brothers in law and 88 year old mother for lunch. Booked for 12.00. Mum wanted sherry, bar had run out. Five ordered Sunday roast and two of scampi. 20 mins later advised chef had run out of scampi so ordered fish and chips instead. Roasts were served all with Yorkshire puddings plonked on top of the meat and roast potatoes.(I don't know anywhere else that thinks they should be served with chicken and pork - bizarre). Food in varying stages ranging from cold to warm. Vegetables were forgotten until reminded 15 mins later by which time most of the meal had been eaten. Fish was served on greaseproof paper with fresh hot chips, but the tiny portion of peas were in the same size dish as the tartare. No lemon or garnish. The thin end of my fish was fine, the next cold, the other half raw. Eventually 20 mins after eating what we could, we cleared our own plates to the end of the table. Declined deserts and coffee, but lunch still took over 2 hours as service was so poor. There are a lot of places to eat in the area, we won't be putting ourselves through this experience again. Avoid!

We visited the Duncombe Arms for my Daughters 16th Birthday. We had a great meal, and all happy with our choices and the food was great. The meal sizes were good, reasonably priced and didn't disappoint. At some point during our meal they had worked out it was my daughters birthday and when desert came out they had put candles in for her which was a lovely surprise that we hadn't asked for. Our waitress Bryony was lovely, friendly and offered some good recommendations on desert choices. The restaurant had a lovely welcoming atmosphere and would recommend. We will return again.

The welcome was very friendly and the menu choice was excellent. The fish cakes for starters were delicious and the main courses were superb: home made mushy peas and tartare sauce, crispy chips, freshly cooked Mediterranean vegetables, beautiful fish and thick, juicy gammon. So good we have booked for Saturday lunch as we want to try more dishes.

My partner insisted on taking me out on a date night and we visited The Duncombe Arms as it is local to us and not somewhere we'd eaten before. I phoned to book a table as it's Friday night and I assumed they may be busy. On arrival I wish I'd gone with my gut feeling and walked out. There was one couple eating, lots of empty tables and a group of men drinking by the bar. Nonetheless, the girls behind the bar gave us a warm welcome and showed us to our table. We chose Camembert to share as a starter. What a mistake ! It was running off the slate serving plate and the cheese had the consistency of water ! We did mention this to the waiter as he asked how we were enjoying our meal. My raised eyebrows spoke volumes but went unnoticed !

It has been about a year since i last visited for a meal and to be honest not a lot has changed. Yes the food is very good although the dishes i ordered were slightly over seasoned, but the same problem exists with service. We were the only table left to be served but waited an age for drinks and for order to be taken. There was only one other table being used and they were finishing up. As i said previously, if they can get the service part right between table to kitchen and back to table then this could be a gem of a place

Visited this pub during the week. Absolutely top class food. Quality fresh ingredients and cooked to absolute perfection. Easily the best meal ive ever had. Will definitely be returning. Prices are incredibly reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. Would have been prepared to pay more at somewhere of this standard.

What a gem! Food worthy of a top London restaurant. Had the lamb dish which was amazing! Cooked to perfection and melt in your mouth. Seen some reviews on here about price being high which is definitely not the case for the standard and quality you recieve. Clearly people who class Wetherspoons as a quality food establishment. Thank you for a great evening! Will be back!

We were visiting this area and took some friends with us to this charming pub. We only had time for a quick drink and ordered 4 halves - two shandy's, a lager and a beer. We were charged £12.10 .. and when I queried this was told it was correct and other people had complained about the prices in the past. Pleasant staff though.

Got over charged .Paid for someone else's drink. Barman under charged a friend and then put the drink he didn't pay for onto our round of drinks. It wasn't until we had a dissusion outside and friends made a comment to how dear our round of soft drinks were that we went back to the bar and then the barman explained what he had done . No apology. No offer of a refund poor service . Their mistake .

The Duncombe Arms has recently re-opened after a significant investment. They've done a really nice job in creating a welcoming stylish pub. The menu is small with some tasty dishes to tempt you. We opted for Fish and Chips and 2 starters: a mushroom brioche and fried squid rings. The food arrived promptly and looked well presented, the fish batter was crispy and not overly oily. The problem with all the food was it then needed significant seasoning by us at the table to get flavours. We can only assume that the chef/kitchen hadn't seasoned any of the ingredients or tasted the food before it was served. This was disappointing as the food should taste as good as it looks from the first mouthful to the last and as a guest you shouldn't be forced to add copious amounts of salt to your food at the table.

We came here for lunch for the first time today, and enjoyed a lovely family meal. The decor is pleasant, with a sunny beer garden at the back. The service was excellent, and the food was delicious, (I loved my halloumi burger). They had a great kids menu, and colouring pens which were a good distraction for my four year old. The cost was as I would expect. The only recommendation would be that it would be nice to have had a kids meal deal, where the kids starter, main and desert came as a set price instead of paying for each one individually. Overall though, an excellent meal and we hope to return.

Deciding to try somewhere new, today we picked The Duncombe Arms in Waresley. First let me highlight the positives. The interior is tastefully decorated and the staff are very friendly, welcoming and attentive. There were four of us and we ordered two sirloin steaks, one medium rare the other medium to well done (just a line of pink), a gammon and a scampi. The scampi was delicious as was the gammon. Unfortunately, the medium rare steak arrived done and the medium to well done had no line of pink. We returned the medium rare and a replacement was happily prepared. Unfortunately, it did mean this diner ended up eating after everyone else had finished. The biggest issue was the chips. Advertised as triple cooked chips, they were in fact standard frozen chips and some were actually under cooked. Despite mentioning this, other than an apology, the matter was never really addressed and no explanation given. In fairness to them they did discount the medium rare steak. As this is not a cheap place to eat we had expected better. This was a real shame as we were really looking forward to adding it to our list of local eateries. We had planned to book for their Exotic Grill but have now had a change of heart.

This place has character and the locals are friendly, just making my way around st neots picking out the best ones. I like this place albeit one little issue is I always get the same middle aged barmaid with grey hair hanging in her eyes ..you need a barmaid refurb definitely not a Brucey bonus one should be leaving the bar work to younger pretty girls a hot blooded man wants to see please.

We came for a late lunch as we were in the area. The entrance area is welcoming and looks inviting. It was Halloween and there were fun pumpkins and flowers on the outside tables and later lanterns were lit. The bar area is cosy and warm,’gently’ lit and charming. This hotel has a really nice feel to it. We instantly felt comfortable and relaxed and the lovely young staff were on point at the start. I asked for a condiment and it didn’t come so had to ask again and for one or two other things. All staff are willing but it became a little bit disjointed and incoherent. I didn’t see anyone keeping them focussed and this could be slightly better. Our food was excellent. We loved it all and the wines are also good. All in all very nice experience and we are looking forward to coming back.
