The Dumpling Tree in Cambridge

Came for the quiz. We had the Dirty Dozen twice. One boiled, one fried. Absolutely delicious. I went to their previous location near the leisure park and I'm pleased to see they have a new bigger place. Will be back soon. We won the quiz!

The cost of living crisis has definitely hit this Chinese restaurant. Ordered 12 dumplings which were put in a take away plastic carton, yes all 12. And yes they were tiny, to get 12 in a take away plastic container, I'll give you credit.Even the dip would fit over my thumb, there must have been 20ml for a dozen mini dumplings. These dumplings were poor purely because I have never seen dumplings this small with a 20ml pot. ONE can only wonder why would a restaurant be so petty Still Ive stopped wondering cause I won't be going back, I'll order form a proper Chinese take away in future and not a this restraunt. REMEMBER DUMPLING Tree bad food travels faster than good food 🍲 If your on a diet, this is your place.......

The Dumpling Tree is one of my favourite spots in Cambridge. My friend had the "dirty dozen" mixed meat dumplings with hot and sour soup, and I had the tofu and green bean dumplings, also with hot and sour soup. Everything was delicious! This was my third visit, and it certainly won't be my last.

This restaurant was recommended by locals who live in the area, and it did not disappoint. As a starter, my husband and I ordered the dumplings, and the taste and texture were perfect. For dinner, I particularly loved the eggplant (yum!). My husband enjoyed his charbroiled beef. The flavors of both dishes were exceptional, gourmet quality, so much better than other restaurants of this cuisine. The atmosphere was welcoming and parking easy, even with almost a full house on a Monday night. We made sure we registered our vehicle when we first walked in, which was an easy process. We will definitely go back the next time we are in Cambridge.

First visit of 2024, and as usual, the food quality was superb. It's always freshly made, piping hot, tasty, flavourful, and authentic. The dumplings we had were pan fried, and were a little crispy, which is how we love them. Complete with a tangy, spicy sauce for dipping, or upon request, Chinese vinegar, or soy sauce. We also ended up with beef noodle soup (filling, hot, plentiful) and dried noodles & beef + back bean sauce (fresh cooked, well presented, tasty and simply excellent) All the dishes came out within minutes of each other, and we just dug in. Exquisite! You have to validate parking on arrival, otherwise, you'll get a parking fine. The staff can help with this, and always ask if you've completed the action before seating you. We recommend booking because it gets busy and sign up for their emails & notifications because they regularly have great promotions. Well worth a visit for quality, home-cooked, fresh food with an authentic taste. It was not the cheapest meal by a long way, but it was worth every penny.

Davvero eccellente! Locale molto bello, personale giovane molto accogliente e disponibile. L'offerta è molto varia: scelgo un Dirty Dozen, dodici dumplings semplicemente eccezionali! Ripieni vari (è un mix dei loro dumplings), molto gustosi e impreziositi da pezzetti di erba cipollina e lemon grass, cotti alla piastra x mantenere il più possibile inalterattutti i sapori e i succhi all'interno del raviolo. Presentazione corretta: piatto piano con al centro la scodellina della salsa di soja e 12 dumplings tutti intorno sul bordo del piatto. Accompagno con un ottimo piatto di riso alla cantonese fritto (assolutamente poco unto) e una birra Tiger fresca e molto buona. Ho mangiato dumplings in diversi ristoranti cinesi a Singapore, quando mio figlio e la sua famiglia era là x lavoro: ma devo ammettere che questi hanno una marcia in più. Bravi e, soprattutto, complimenti. Ci torneremo sicuramente.

This place is good and I'm sure when its busy it will have a great atmosphere. When we called in it was very quiet but it was only 5pm. Our food arrived which we were happy with but mine could have done with being hotter.

Nice interior with big menu. No marked vegan options which was a disappointment but lots of vegetarian dishes. Food was nice, decent portion sizes. Staff were friendly and service average.

Stopped here for dinner after a long journey, no problem getting a table as there were only two tables occupied and a couple at the bar. Service was quick and the food hot as one would expect however, overpriced for what arrived, sweet and sour pork on egg noodles £15, seafood the same £17. Beer was awful being left in the pipes so order a bottled beer to avoid similar. After eating and asking for the bill I noticed 12.5% tip was added, the menu mentioned this as an option should you wish to do so and that all tips are shared amongst the shift, surely the option should be to add not feel obligated or have to ask for it to be removed, we left a few quid cash for our server which we think was normal for us. Massively overpriced for what we received I’m afraid, won’t be returning as for £45 for two we should have gone elsewhere and got a takeaway.

Nice spot for dinner, plenty of parking but make sure to register your number plate. The staff were friendly and efficient. The food was good and the portions were pretty good. But it is a bit on the pricey side.

Be pre-booked on a 1 night stop over in Cambridge. The restaurant was very quiet but a few customers in the bar area. The tables were ok with the menu under the glass table tops. One of the first things we noticed on the menu was the compulsory 12 half % service charge. The serving staff initially appeared efficient, they took our order without writing it down. The starters of fiery chicken wings. Ribs and veg spring rolls. Very small wings and not spicy sauce had a slight tingle. Ribs had some meat on them but we're short, each about 6cm in length quite hard and chewy. The spring rolls were ok. For mains we ordered the slow cooked belly pork and the slow cooked beef. A portion of egg-fried rice and a portion of noodles. The Rice was under-seasoned with bitty rice and tasteless. The two main courses had identical sauces except one had pork and coriander and the beef had bits of spring onion. It did not taste one bit like an authentic Chinese meal. Visually one leaf of pac choy had been placed in each. It was very strange and If blindfolded you would never say it was a Chinese dish. The small cubes of belly pork still had all the fat and skin on them which made it greasy and tasted like the pork ribs (not much taste) and had been added to the poor sauce. They were chewy. You had to take all the fat off first to try and eat any of it. The beef also appears to have had the same Treatment and had large bits of fat still on it. I understand you may get grissle within the beef but this was large pieces of un-rendered fat attached as though it had just been thrown in by a really lazy ‘chef’ Oh and they forgot the noodles until half way through the meal and they weren’t nice, and I didn't want to put the sauce on them so they were left. It was obvious we had left a lot and we were unable to attract the attention of any serving staff. I had to go to the bar area after 20mins sat there without a drink or any service to ask for the bill. We asked for the service charge to be removed, which they did. Still £70 for a very poor meal.

The food was delicious! They had so many yummy vegetarian and seafood options (since I don't eat meat) that made me want to come back for more. We had scrumptious vegetable dumplings, an eggplant dish, salt and pepper prawns, fish fillet, yummy noodles. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to visiting tourists and locals. Not like other restaurants that rely on too much salt, sugar and oil to flavor the food. Great value for healthy delicious Chinese food!

A Birthday treat for our 14 year old grandson and all the family. Early Saturday evening 6:30 and already the mixed platter starters were off the menu as they were too busy to cook them. Disappointing. Young waiter seemed inexperienced and had problems hearing choices because of the noise. Our order was eventually taken 20 mins after sitting down. Forty minutes later our starter and main course arrived together. “Oh did you want them separately”? Mmmmm! I always thought that was the purpose of a starter. Waiter just passed food down the table. It knowing who had what. Was anxious to make a get away to get on with other diners. 2nd waiter followed up with remaining meals and managed to knock a bottle of beer over grandson. He ate his meal in soaking wet trousers. Trying to order 2nd drinks was hit and miss, only if you managed to catch the eye of a frantic waiter. Food was disappointing. I have had better takeaways, too greasy and each dish to similar. Expensive for the quality of food and service at almost £200 plus an included service charge for poor service.

as always Dumpling Tree never disappoints. it is a bit pricey .. but ID RATHER EAT here where i know the quality is good. THEY NEVER COMPROMISE.. and you can actually taste that its fresh. unlike other chinese restaurants where almost everything taste the same because they use the same oil. or thst its too greasy. Im asian. So i know when chinese food is GOOD CHINESE FOOD. And Dumpling Tree is worth your money.

I picked up my food maybe five minutes after collection time, and ate if about fifteen minutes later. Maybe it would've been better if eaten immediately after delivery, but still, I was hoping for better. Stale peanut bun, stale bread for bap. Dumplings were all stuck together and OK, but they were not as good as from Zhonghua Traditional Snacks. Pan fried cheese was delicious!

For us this is the best quality Chinese takeaway food, unfortunately it is expensive and only performs delivery on specific days of the week.

That was the best take away I've ever had and I've ordered lots of take aways in different countries. The dumpling tree tops them all! I would gladly order here again soon. :)

Terrible food (soggy fried dumplings, thick wrapping on wonton's, indian-curry like spring rolls... the list just goes on and on), horrible value (very small portions) but good delivery time.

Flavours are tasty but meat quality is not great

Everything was absolutely delicious.

The vegetarian Cross the Bridge Rice Noodles has prawns in it and I had an infuriating conversation with someone at the restaurant about how vegetarians actually do eat prawns. They refunded the money for that dish and agreed to change the recipe, but only after I suggested it and we'd had this long, annoying and patronising conversation. In any case, the food was average.

Collection only but still they have priced items on just eat menu bit dearer than on their own take away menu. Not mentioned on just eat menu that the spring rolls are chicken ones and just 4 in number for £3.80. Bit too expensive for take away. Mixed experience. Can't say bad can't say good. Will try again to be sure.

A pretty overpriced dumpling place with quite average food. A minimum order is quite large, the food is cold when it arrives. Also everything but the dumplings are awful!

The chow main, warrior's bap and cucumber salad were nice, but the wonton soup and dumplings were really not to our taste, and we couldn't finish them.

Overpriced and unexciting. The soup was just like water with soy sauce and chillies, had nothing else in it.

We were really happy with our food. A cut above your average chinese takeaway and prices fairly average for a takeaway of that quality.

Tasty dumplings with a good selection. The fried ones were particularly good. Incredibly quick delivery, too.

Yummy, yummy, yummy! The food is so delicious. I've only marked down the takeaway side of things just because I feel a £20+ order shouldn't have a £3 delivery charge lumped on top. But the food is excellent!

It was my first time ordering from this restaurant, the tast of the food was quite disappointing and the price of the food was very expensive and they also charged 3 pounds delivery fee. I have to say I am very disappointed.

Great tasting food. Not your normal Thai/Chinese type of food. The dishes are aromatic, and not simply catered to "the British palette" by stuffing the food with sugars. Only down side would be the maximum order price of £20 - bit over the top when dining in for 1 ! But apart from that delicious.

So happy to have found this place in Cambridge! I've been searching for a real authentic South-West Chinese restaurant for ages and this one definately hits the spot. There are really rarely any restaurants that make Yunnan Style rice noodles in Europe, and to make it so delicious. Lots of different things on the menu to try, but don't worry about ordering something new, every dish I ordered was very tasty.Would be coming back very soon!
