Sir Isaac Newton in Cambridge

I’m incredibly late to post this and for that you have my apologies. This is a very non-traditional pub review haha! Over a year ago, I got married to the love of my life and we decided to have a simple reception at The Sir Isaac Newton. From the first time we met Alissia, she was incredibly accommodating and we had a great experience with her. The night before, we decorated the whole place with what we could, they helped set up the tables according to my seating plans, the food was excellent and all in all I have nothing but love and respect for this pub and all its staff. I will never forget this place as it’s tied to one of the best days of my life. Thank you for making that happen, you’ll always be in my heart 💖

We came here with our dog and were treated fantastically. The food was nice and we had a lovely evening. They even offered a lamb bone to our doggy who was very happy☺️

One of the better more relaxed pubs in these parts. Didnt eat on this visit but good to see plenty of vegan options

The name is attractive but the rest is normal pub.

Fantastic pub. Plenty of sport, pool table and outside seating. Staff are great and the pub quiz on a Sunday looks fun

Good for football + excellent Guinness

One of best pubs in Cambridge. Food is homemade and tasty, good beers, really friendly staff and an excellent vibe here. Highly recommend. Also show matches on big days!

We went with my family to have beer and it was really cool. We even played Jenga while we were drinking and eating french fries 🍟.

Can't visit Cambridge and skip the pub named after our beloved scientist Newton!

A very well run neighborhood pub.

This must be one of the best Sunday roasts in Cambridge for £14😁 Superb offering of Beef, Pork, Lamb, Chicken and Vegan all served with a tasty section of vegetables, roast potatoes, leaks, swede, cauliflower, carrots, broccoli, cabbage and gravy of course 👍

Was told previously children were allowed to be in the pub till 9pm the same as all pubs due to license which is fine. I have been in many times with my family to watch football games with no comments made Went in to watch a football game but this time was told children weren’t allowed in after 7:30pm It was 8pm at this point. The man through a hissy fit when challenged about this stormed up and down saying I’ll let you this once but not again also made a comment about “children shouldn’t be in at pub st this time” we walked out won’t be going there again.

The bar is way too low please raise it. Edit: The bar hasn't been raised but does seem quite girthy raising review to 3*

This review has been written after few visits: as usual it is based on food quality, staff attitude, atmosphere and local-standard value for money. Good food and an a good selection of beers welcome you in this pub. The atmosphere inside is also good and it’s a good choice for those who likes to see sports on TV. Definetly a place to visit in Cambridge. Over the last twenty years I have been travelling for business (and not) reason and I have discovered a lot about the world of catering.

Nice mixture of locals and students, not overly pretentious either . Nice beers and Football on the TVs on match days, friendly staff.

Great pub - they played the Arsenal Brentford game when no other pub would.

The staff here are absolutely amazing. Very kind and attentive - top class pub service. The atmosphere is very lively and jolly, although I did come at a busy time so perhaps that might have influenced my experience.

Very friendly pub, nice interior and helpful staff. A few different areas so sit/drink/eat in. Sunday eve quiz was fun.

Fantastic food. I've been there 3 times now and had the home made pies everytime. I can honestly say they are the best pies I've ever had. Short crust base with puff pastry top and when you cut into them the filling and gravey just ouses out which is so tasty

Objectively good food and an assorted amount of beers on tap. Clearly a locals spot with ample seating on busy nights. Weekdays the turnout is small, would consider hitting the place Friday through Sunday as it looks busy from the outside. Would be a good spot to watch a football game with the crew.

I've been quizzing and eating at the Isaac Newton for 15 years. The food is great home cooked style pub fayre and the Sunday roast is terrific. The quiz is free to enter and a good standard of questions. The atmosphere is friendly with a good mix of students and locals of all ages. Dick is a great host. I wish a lot more pubs in Cambridge were like this. Sorry it's taken me so long to write a well deserved review.

A hiddeen gem up castle hill Food and drinks excellent Very friendly place..staff very helpful The menue was vast and all dishes were pretty cheap One of the best evenings ive had lately.

Great space with excellent service and delicious garlic bread - can't speak to the rest of the menu but believe me when I say that was some fine garlic bread. Came for the pub quiz which was one of my favorites so far in Cambridge. Good pacing, good volume and good crowd. Can't speak to much else I'm afraid but will be returning.

We went with my BF for a drink and it was very lovely and chilled place, it was not too busy and plenty of space, we played pool, £1 for a game and they had some of our favourite beers which was great. The bar staff very friendly. There is also toilets on ground floor and seating area outside.

It's a really nice place and well decorated! Staff was friendly and welcoming when we arrived 👍 The Sunday roast of lamb & beef was 🥰 💞 perfectly cooked, the gravy is lovely, and all the sides are well prepared as well 😋 It's a popular place with the locals

We really enjoyed our time in there. They do not put music so outloud and I appreciate that. Everyone should try this pub. I can say it is one of my favorites.

I had one of the pies ,proper mash,veg and flavours with gravy were next level , so glad I walked in the rain to grab some food ,awsome ,keep it up 👍

Le bar diffuse des événements sportifs. Plusieurs écrans sont disposés dans la salle, mais ils ne sont pas tous de bonne qualité. Plats peu travaillés: burger végétarien simple et salade au poulet en petite quantité. Pinte à 6£

Maybe I'd come in on restocking day, but they were out of most ciders.

WOW 🤩 Walked in and all was quiet and empty but do yourself a favour the homemade Steak, Guinness and Stilton pie…. what can I say FABULOUS definitely recommend Staff were friendly and the place is a hidden gem in Cambridge

Geat atmosphere, good food, and free pool on Mondays, what more does one need?

I love they way they commemorated the King's Coronation. Very funny and original. We came with a baby in a buggy. The staff were very accommodating and friendly and the prices were good!

Average pub. The bar 'staff' were dressed like they'd just come in off the street and tried to serve pints with oversized heads to make profit. Advertised as a sports pub, but all the main TVs are at funny angles and not great views. Otherwise, it's ok and would go back occasionally.

I went here for a wedding reception and it was a lovely experience. The staff were friendly and the food was amazing.

Good food, good wine, pleasant staff, not expensive. Dog friendly indoors, tasty wine and lovely steak pies with Stilton and Guiness. Excellent service all round by friendly, efficient staff. We'll keep going there.

Pleasant pub, more reasonable beer prices than the city centre. Comfortable but not cosy. Free WiFi. Lack of parking is a problem.

Nice pub, independent from the Greene King group now but a lovely menu recommend the chilli con carni not to spicey and garlic bread was an amazing taste. Lovely service by the lady at the bar would definitely eat there again

Standard city pub. Not changed much in 25 years.

I don’t even know where to start… The place is beautiful, decorated with taste, I also like how the furniture wasn’t matching, but was vintage and matched the atmosphere. The food was good, however I ordered Mushrooms and Prawns tagliatelle and I can say that either the pasta stuck to the pan or wasn’t cooked properly, because some of it was hard/crispy. And the food is definitely overpriced.

This place has a nice interior and a great selection of beer. Unfortunately the food is not very good - we ordered Newton's burgers for about £13 but the taste was too far from our expectations. I can say the £3.5 McDonald's burger is way better!

Well placed pub half way up/down hill from city centre if walking of course and a Green King one at that in our case uphill and a deserved refreshment to quench thirst from a day in the city walking in the sun staff very friendly

We have had 2 work meals here recently. A leaving do with the standard menu and a Xmas meal. Both times the food was excellent and the staff very friendly. Highly recommended

We had a fabulous Sunday lunch here today, generous portions and freshly cooked vegetables, highly recommended.

Nice place but i received a drink with soap and detergent flavor, the people in charged says i wont get you a free drink, have a glass and change it. I bought another one and as you can see it has no detergent. Dont want anything free, just what i payed for…

Great place to have drinks and gatherings with friends. I'm usually using the second floor on Friday evenings, and it feels very nice. Also the staff attention is very nice and prices and food quality is alright.

One for the best pubs for food and ambiance in Cambridge. And the pool table and the different spaces makes it cosy while still spacious.

Super pub. Great selection and great staff. It is very conveniently located next to the Castle Hill carpark and a good place for a relax after climbing a deceptively long hill. 😉

The staff was really friendly. We came there to watch the F1 race, and they turned the volume up for us. I have celiac disease and when I asked if the chunky chips are gluten free, the worker informed me how the oil hasn't been used yet, so it should be safe. So I really liked that they had a clue about gluten. The cider options are wide and some are really good. I really enjoyed my stay here.

Just north of the City centre. Smart pub and a bit quieter than the ones in the centre. Good beer and tastefully fitted out.

Great service, delicious food, huge portions. Felt nice and Covid safe as it's spacious and clean.

This is a Greene King in name only, they don't accept vouchers, promotions or use the app. It cost £12.50 for a roast and £3.50 for a diet coke. There was a generous portion of beef, but I wouldn't order it again. The food came out quickly, but the vegetables were undercooked for my liking, and strangely only one floret of broccoli and cauliflower. The gravy was also too thin and tangy for my taste and I left feeling hungry. The Wi-Fi kept turning on and off as well.

Watched the rugby in this little treasure. Staff were very welcoming, pool table and darts, what more would you need from a pub. 5 star.
