Lovely pub, first visit here with a large group. Welcoming staff who also provided excellent customer service. Good menu, had the steak, ale and mushroom pie which was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The hot drink and mini dessert was popular and they weren't even that mini! Staff were very accommodating.

We visited as an adult table of 4 at 4pm on a wet Sunday. The car park was packed so we knew it was busy. We had a lovely table in the bar so our dog could sit with us. It was extremely busy, with a really nice atmosphere. Even so, we were served quickly and very attentively. Even though the staff were flying around , we were thoroughly looked after. From the bar to waiting staff, everyone was lovely. All puds on the menu were with ice cream but they even found custard as a special request. We had a meat roast, pie, seabass and veg meals, all were brilliant. We'd definitely go back

We went to the Duke of York for an early dinner. The Malaysian curry was excellent as was the beef. Plenty of space, a lovely garden with canopy, and pleasant efficient waiting staff. As we both needed to drive later in the evening some alcohol free wine would be a good addition to what is on offer, but we fully recommend this excellent venue.

Have been before and loved it there but this time really disappointed. Service was terrible, for 4 of us food took ages and came in twos not together. Long waits in between, when we asked for drinks and desserts they agreed then forgot our order. It wasn't even that busy. When desserts finally came the cheesecake was frozen. We had to repeatedly ask for everything and very lacklustre staff who just could not be bothered. When we complained they removed the deserts from the bill then a lady (poss a manager) stood behind the bar and stared us out, almost trying to intimidate us. We rarely complain but if the service is that bad they should take it apologise and offer to do better next time not the look of How Dare you and get out of My pub vibe. Not sure if we use it again

I came here with my cousin, and our friend for a significant birthday, which we were playing low key due to busy lives. From the outset the decor is striking .. it is unpretentious and cosy. Staff were very welcoming. We got a lovely table in the corner, which we all the more appreciated so we could have a good chat. I was impressed that the menu was dated that day. I chose the spring vegetable risotto to start .. which was gorgeous, both in presentation and taste. I had chicken caesar salad for main which was very nice. My friend had for dessert the hot drink and mini pudding (sticky toffee pudding) which we all thought was a great idea. Overall I was impressed, and wish I lived closer so I could return soon!

Went for Sunday lunch, yet strangely none of us had a roast. I am a coeliac, and the options were immense, which for me, is unusual. Two of us had steak and ale pie (a complete pie with gluten free pastry), mash and veg, one had the sea bass and I had the crispy beef salad which was gorgeous! We followed with two mini desserts and coffee (gluten free sticky toffee pudding and ice cream). Annoyed with myself for forgetting to take piccies, but needless to say, 4 empty plates! Staff were delightful. Can’t wait to return. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We visited the Duke of York as a family group of ten to celebrate our mother’s 95th birthday. It was a good location as our groups were travelling from north London, Oxfordshire and Suffolk. There was a wide choice of dishes on the menu, something suitable for everyone. Starters, main course and desserts were all excellent. Service wasn’t quick but that worked well for us, we weren’t in a hurry. An advantage of this establishment is that it also serves a variety of real ales.

We had reserved a table and arrived on time. The drinks, taking the orders and starters received were fine but taking away the empty plates took time and in the end we had to ask if they would take the plates away which they did. We then waited and after an hour had to ask if we could have our main courses served. Mum doesn't eat much so she had the scallops which is a starter, as a main course. Due to the long wait our steak burgers were overcooked. As no apology was given for the delay, I can only assume that this is normal practice. It's a lovely pub with plenty of parking and a range of real ales but unfortunately we won't be coming back again because of the long wait between starter and main.

Visited for a late Sunday roast lunch - was pretty busy, and you so you need to prebook. The roasts are excellent, with the full choice of meats - and comes with all the trimmings so no need for sides. All of us we're stuffed afterwards, so very happy! The service is also great - what you'd hope to get from a local pub. The Chef came for a chat, and answered my questions about how the chicken was so moist (brining apparently!). And a big shout out to Lily who looked after us with charm. A perfect spot for a Sunday.

Popped round for Sunday lunch. We actually nearly cancelled when we read some other reviews but decided to go anyway. We were a bit early but no problem for the dining area and it was busy. Husband had pate with apricot chutney which he enjoyed. I had roast pork and he the beef. The meal was a good portion and had a large variety of veg, green beans, cabbage, parsnip, carrot mash, roast pots, plus sausage stuffing, a chipolata bacon and a good portion of meat. The gravy was lovely. The meal was delicious and cost £51 for both of us. Very happy and will return again.

Venue not far from the centre addresses of a close group of School friends, most in their early 70's, who have bucked the trend and stayed together. A couple from Australia (Perth) were visiting the UK, returning home after another tour of the UK..Siddie, my pal and former neighbour in our school days, took a £25 assisted package in his teens, years ago ..married an Australian Wife and has never looked back. We meet usually Bi-Annually for an update with other friends. The Duke of York is a super place, more Bistro than pub, with their fayre, quite a notch up than normal Pub Grub. Lots of parking and in the summer, great for a meal in their outside areas. Good varied menu. We had booked a large room (no charge) for our Group and were well served..always friendly staff and efficient and attentive service. We had a taster selection of starters (see the web site menu), about six of them..all very tasty and well presented..three bottles of house wine, plus about five pints of lager, including a local ale for our 'Aussie'. I like a lager with a meal..Fosters usually, which my Aussie pal says they use to wash dishes in Aus..bloody cheek, its a fair lager..no taste at all the Aussies, but good fun. All had main courses, ranging from fish to pies and chicken, with an ice cream desert for one and the rest coffees all round. Bill with a tip, was around £78 each couple..very good value and a great afternoon catching up: Pity about the ULEZ cost..I think most escaped with compliant cars..the Mayor of London has virtually succeeded ruining the hospitality and business in London, now trying for the suburbs..I hope the destruction of cameras, by very naughty people, whom I obviously can't support, concludes with the Mayor, taking a long trip back for good to his parents homeland.: Taking his bullet proof gas guzzling official Limo with him. Try the 'Duke', it's a very good venue

Sadly the sunday roast was awful, roast potatoes and parsnips were old and bruised, soft and seemed steamed or reheats. 100% not roasted as they should have been as advertised. We were all unable to eat these as they was disgusting. The roast was served up with alot less accompanied vegetables as served on previous visits. Very disappointing. When mentioned to the manager the reply was "il be sure to let the chef know" and we was still charged the full amount £23 per meal.. Our family will not be returning!

We made a booking so we could eat in the marquee, thinking it would be a bit warmer, what a mistake, it was only enclosed on 2 sides, so no shield from the wind, as it was sunny whilst there it would have been warmer to sit outside the marquee, there were no outdoor heaters, I do not think they have thought about their customers at all. There was no healthy option on the menu, so I will not be dining there again, until things change, extremely disappointed as it’s a public house I use. Also where the marquee should be enclosed the pole for the sides was on the ground and could easily be tripped over which made it a health and safety hazard. I do hope this is rectified before someone hurts themselves.

Me my husband and two daughters decided to go to the duke of York for a couple of drinks . When we arrived I asked if we could be seated outside as it was a hot day and me and my husband smoke . While being shown to our table outside my daughters were in front of me and I stopped to say hello to one of my neighbours who was in there having just ordered there dinner .My two daughters got shown to our table outside when they noticed my neighbours brother sitting on another table to which they waved and said hello to him . The gentleman then asked my daughter if we we’re together and she replied no we just know him .I then proceeded to go outside with my neighbour as she said I’ll come outside with you to have a cigarette while we wait for our food .We lit our cigarette and was then approached by the gentleman who seated us to say all tables outside are non smoking and we could only go to designated areas in the corners for smoking which we then complied with .My neighbour then said if you can’t smoke outside why don’t you ask to sit on the empty table near us inside I then asked the gentleman if we could sit inside as we couldn’t smoke freely outside to which he agreed .We then sat at the table with my husband and two daughters and waited for the staff to take our order .We then very rudely got told “we cannot come and serve you as you are trying to disobey the rules “ I completely agree and most definitely abide by the Covid rules but on the other hand DO NOT understand how I happen to see a neighbour in my local pub that I cannot sit or even speak to them .My husband said how dare you speak to me in that tone of voice , we are not together we just happen to know each other .The gentleman said you must be from the same bubble so my staff cannot come into the room to take your order.I would firstly like to say non of the workers are wearing masks only visors ! And how do you establish that speaking to someone who is sitting on another table is from my “bubble “ But you can sit total strangers on the table I’m sitting on and that’s ok ? My husband then got up and said I’m leaving and going somewhere else that will take my order and hope we don’t see anyone we know there !!!!All I can say is I do understand that the public and staff need to abide by all rules and I do believe we did , but I do not except any members of staff talking to me or my family in the tone they did .I Will most definitely not be returning here and will most definitely be telling everyone I know the awful way we were treated .Avoid at all costs and if you do visit please make sure you don’t talk to anyone you might know in there .

I have to give this rating because although the food is ok and some protective measures are in place, it falls down badly because the staff are not wearing masks. They were wearing clear shields, which are not adequate anyway when worn without a mask, but especially as staff were wearing them pointing away from their faces so their mouth and nose were uncovered.

Came here with my parents and 2 year old nephew for lunch yesterday. I called and said I was 5 minutes late and the attitude I received on the phone was as if I was a huge inconvenience. When we arrived, the man who took us to our table just turned to me and said “no kids running around in here”. My nephew only being 2, wasn’t making a noise and was just standing politely. As we were taken to our table outside my little mans face lit up when we saw the tractor at the bottom of the garden and I just nicely asked “ah can he go and sit on that?” And the response I got was “absolutely not no”. I have never been to a pub where a child was treated as if he wasn’t welcome. I get the Covid rules of course I do, but the utter snobbery here was disgusting. My nephew sat at the table quietly throughout our stay, didn’t get off his seat once. Not one smile or sense of customer service at all come the couple of men that served our table. Have never felt so unwelcome before. I most definitely won’t be returning.

This is a rather pricey gastropub but the quality of the food does not match the prices. We went as a family and wife had the roast beef. The beef itself was good, but the Yorkshire pudding was bready and lacked any taste whilst the roast potatoes had no crunch and needed more cooking. I had the steak burger which just seemed like a burger bought from a cash and carry, densely packed and tasteless. Nice pub for a drink, but avoid the food.

Had a great lunch earlier with my family. Tasty food, good staff and sensible Covid environment. Bonus that we could get some money off through the eat out scheme. Will be back soon 😀

Arrived Sunday evening to quiet bar sign says "Wait to be seated" after several minutes of "Waiting" decided to seek someone whereby very rude female staff person literally told me off for not Waiting....IF YOU put a sign saying Wait to be seated MAKE SURE YOU HAVE STAFF on hand to seat people (this was the second time we've endured this behaviour!)Would definitely recommend AVOIDING this place there are far less pedantic inns to visit in this area!

Decidedly average! We were told all the new COVID rules about what we as customers could and could not do. Fair enough! But then we were bemused by staff wearing their protective visors up instead of down covering their faces! The food was very average. My partner thought his veggie Malaysian curry was rather tasteless. The prawn linguine was ok. Then we had desert but again, the cheeseboard was so disappointing. Tiny slithers of cheese (except the Brie) but the crackers were like tasteless cardboard! Whoever selected those crackers as a tasty accompaniment to cheese needs to be replaced! All in all, a disappointing meal. We would not eat here again and would have been mightily miffed had we paid full price for this food! As on a previous review that I have just read, the waiter was very keen to point out the gratuity option on payment! NOT the done thing. A gratuity is a payment for good food and service. It is optional and not a given. Another reason I would not return!

14 ladies from the local W.I. had lunch here. The food and service were both excellent and the waitress made it so easy for us to all pay individually. We had ourvown little seati g area in The Nook which was just the right size for our party. Small portions are available for some main course dishes. All in all ex ellent

The staff were friendly if a little bit rushed meaning service was steady. The menu was interesting with several dishes that appealed. The steak and ale pie was tasty but a bit more attention to trimming the meat would benefit - gristle is not that pleasant.I am told the crispy beef salad lacked the cashews.Did we have a good time - yes. Could it have been better - yes as well.

I booked a table online for the Duke of York for a family lunch, specifying a round table which makes conversation easier. When we arrived we had to wait sometime before we were shown to our rectangular table. Luckily a round one was found but what is the point of asking for any specific needs on the online booking form if they are ignored? What staff there was were pleasant but there just wasn’t enough of them so acquiring menus, taking orders and getting the bill was a frustratingly slow process. The food was mainly alright but I wouldn’t recommend the cheese, potato and onion pie unless you have strong teeth to deal with the pastry. It certainly wasn’t as good as previous visits to this Brunning & Price restaurant.

We have visited the pub for Sunday lunch on a few occasions and have generally received good food and service. This evening we arrived 20 minutes early for our table and were happy to wait at the bar however we were shown to a table immediately. Once our drinks were brought over we were left for over 20 minutes before I had to go to the bar and ask for someone to take our order. The food was no where near as nice as it had been in the past and the potatoes tasted as if they had been sitting there all day. Nobody came to clear our plates or ask if we wanted to order desserts, again we had to go to the bar and ask for the bill. Terrible shame as this was one of our favourites, will not be returning any time soon.

Tried light bites menu. Simple tasty fare. Waiting staff attentive and very polite. Would have rated higher but for the price of a small bottle of alcohol free lager.

We stopped by here with our kids (10 & 13) and dog this afternoon. We were quickly found a nice table near the bar and had a delicious lunch. They had a gluten-free menu too, which was useful for one of us. The dog also appreciated the dog treat snack from the bar. Everyone working there was very friendly and we had no issues with anything. Will definitely go again when in the area - recommended!

We had a lovely post Christmas luncheon here on Saturday 28th December. All the staff we engaged with were polite, helpful and clearly knowledgable about the food and drink on the menu. The portion sizes for the starters prevented an ‘Excellent’ rating as the Onion bhaji and the Boar and Chorizo meatball were fairly small. The main courses were great. A lovely beef and ale pie served with fresh veg & gravy and a tasty steak burger. You pay slightly inflated prices for a pub lunch but to be fair, the quality overall was very good. Will be back.

A group of friends had our Christmas get together on Tuesday 10th December. We were seated at a round table which is ideal. Everyone enjoyed their meal, especially me. I had a superb sirloin steak. The staff are really friendly and food was served freshly prepared and hot.

Great family meal. We really enjoyed the food, from starters, mains to cheese / dessert. The malbec was good too. Service was friendly. Great value for money. There's also a really nice feel about the place with tables nicely spaced out. Highly recommend eating here.

Popped in for a leisurely lunch , starter and main . We were made welcome the moment we came in . Seated straight away and orders taken promptly . Food arrived on time and was delicious ! All staff were very pleasant and helpful . There is a loyalty scheme which gives discount on future meals . We shall certainly make full use of that . Ambience of restaurant is most agreeable .

After our wonderful family Sunday lunch here today, felt I had to post a review about our positive experience. There were 14 of us - 7 adults and 7 children. We booked the private room, a bonus for a large group (no charge). We had a range of meals, from traditional roasts, vegetarian and the children’s menu. All meals were hot, tasty and attractively presented. Service was very good with a lovely friendly waitress overseeing everything.

We are your neighbours and have always found the pub and restaurant to be hit and miss. We’ve never given up on you and came for a bite to eat last night last minute, praying we’d see an improvement. We did. Lovely service and food was good and served in a timely manner. Our red wine was delicious not to mention the hot waffle! Please please keep up the good work and you will see us and many of our local friends back to their local....

Spent in the mid 50s for a bottle of wine, starters and desserts - one of which was a mini dessert. The service was lovely as are the surroundings however, the mini dessert was really disappointing. It was meant to be glazed bananas and waffle but there was literally one disc of a banana and the waffle was rock hard. Having never had one before I wasn't too sure and ate some of the waffle but when I couldn't get my fork into it I decided it couldn't be right. Such a shame that the cheapest element of the menu selected was treated with such throw away carelessness. Just because something isn't going to make a huge profit it doesn't mean one shouldn't take care. I returned the dish to the staff and they helpfully removed the cost from the bill but its a shame that so little care was taken in the first place. Otherwise a nice place, good service but not cheap.

Just had the most fabulous lunch at the Duke of York! The food was delicious (especially the scallops and the chicken pie) and all the friendly and bubbly staff made it a very special birthday event for us all today. Nothing was too much trouble for Justin and his team! Thank you!

Love this spoons - the staff are great here, lovely beer garden and the food is amazing especially compared to some other wetherspoons. It’s usually quite busy which is good but I never see it rowdy.

First visit and hope to be back - indoor and outdoor seating available. Toilet facilities at side of cafe (query park managed). Good quick service and range of food / drinks. A little pricey but probably in keeping with the area. Good views over the park. Would prefer a pot of tea (small cup at £2.75 definitely needs reviewing).
