The best pub in London! I especially loved the service and the quality of drinks! Food is amazing too!

Me and my partner had seen this pub on the way to catching a bus to go into Westminster to visit different tourist sites and thought that the menu looked quite good and pretty fair pricing for quite central london. So after a long hard day, going round the different sites and getting to the pub at about 8 PM we placed our order thru the table side QR code as no cash or card payment at the bar is accepted. The atmosphere was warm and friendly from the customers and the food was tasty. However, unfortunately there was a VERY RUDE male staff member who clearly hates his job. As the food took 30 minutes to come and he only brought the sides to the table. I reasonably asked how long the mains would be. And he aggresively said "I haven't got 4 hands! What do you want me to do? I'm bringing the mains next!" This put a real downer on what otherwise could have been a good experience and if I could have seen a manager, I would have talked to them directly as this is unacceptable behaviour to use with a customer. Nice pub, but the rude waiter needs retraining or to be given a warning.

Went middle of the afternoon. Was not alot of people. Didn't try the food myself, but it looked good. Clean looking pub. Good food and drink offers. Nice music.

A beautiful atmosphere in this bar, space, sound and the broadcast of football matches. We tasted the “pie”: they are delicious.

Stumbled across this lovely little pub yesterday after cheering on some friends running the London Marathon. We were absolutely starving so decided to order some food which we was little unsure on as the place was pretty empty. We needn't have worried. x 2 ox cheek roast dinners and a homemade gammon and leek pie. All of it was absolutely amazing. The roast potatoes crispy on the outside and gorgeous and fluffy in the middle. All of it was such great and plenty of it too. I like to think I am a bit of a roast connoisseur and this was definitely one of the best roasts I have ever had. Bloody amazing.

We celebrated my grandads 90th bday here and all the family had such a lovely day, the food (buffet), the staff and establishment couldn’t have been any better. Massive thanks to you all for making this big day so special for my grandad means a lot. We will definitely be visiting again soon 🥰

Today was my first visit to this pub. The decor pleasantly reminded me of the old fashioned pubs of the past. The staff were friendly,and the pub has a large variety of beers. We didn't have a meal but there was a large selection of dishes. I will certainly come here again and have an afternoon drink and a meal next time.

A nice little pub. I like all the pictures they have on the walls. Also the little private area with decorative lights in the corner of the pub. Service was good and prices reasonable. I like the menu too. I'm a bit of a pie person and they bake some interesting pies. Admittedly I haven't tried them yet. They also seem to have some interesting cocktails like the Valentine Punch.

This well-appointed corner pub on a quiet stretch of the Borough Road turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The handcrafted shortcrust pastry pies were a delight, with innovative fillings and obviously made on the premises. The place was relatively empty, giving us an opportunity to chat with the friendly Australian barman. Definitely worth a detour from the main thoroughfares of Southwark.

We ate there last month before going to say a play at the Soutwark Playhouse nearby. It was lunchtime and fairly quiet. The two guys running the pub were both very friendly and welcoming. I had ordered one thing until my wife pointed out the vegan burger. I asked them if it was plant based - i.e. was it designed to look like and taste like meat. I am a life long vegetarian and really don't like my burgers to look like, feel like and taste like meat. I was assured that it wasn't. Sadly, when it arrived it was exactly what I said I didn't want - plant based, meat substitute. I wasn't happy but ate it anyway. My wife's food was good so this is my own personal issue/view

Great pub tucked away nr Elephant & Castle. Have been here a couple of times when staying nearby for work and not disappointed on either occasion- lovely selection of beers available and the food is top notch. Juicy burgers with great flavour, creamy mac'n'cheese with delicious buffalo chicken & blue cheese topping. Friendly and attentive service.

I took a group of 26 here for dinner tonight, booked at the last minute, and it was wonderful! The staff couldn't have been lovelier and more accommodating. The food was excellent and everyone was very happy! Definitely recommend for any occasion.

Delicious food! Sweet potato pie was incredible. Dailey specials of meatball Mac and cheese and blackened chicken were amazing. Excellent value from a fabulous chef.

Great little pub with cold drinks and hot food. We both had one of the daily specials and really enjoyed them. Servings were very large. The two servers were amazing. Will definitely being going back.

They used to be a Shepherd Neame pub, but now they have a whole range of different beers. No casks. Their burgers are possibly the best in London. Good atmosphere and nice on-pavement seating in summer (it's there all year round, just a lot nicer in summer)!

This pub is my local - and somehow, in central, still feels like it - and sometimes I pop in for a beer and a pie after work. I sometimes go alone and as a young female, pubs like this are important. It’s cosy, friendly, casual and chilled out and I love to come here and people watch with a pie and a pint! People are always friendly and I’ve actually joined other people at their table (by invite) when I’ve attended alone in the past. They also have some alcohol-free beers and the owner seems like a really good guy. Staff always really friendly too.

Great place with amazing pies. I had the trio of sausage pie and my wife had the pulled chicken, ham and leak pie. Both served with creamy mash and gravy. Warm and friendly service, fantastic staff. Would definitely recommend and will definitely return.

Took a glass of wine back because it didn’t taste right. Barman poured it down the sink, and then refused to offer another drink to replace. Never experienced anything like it in any pub ever.

Absolutely love this pub. Myself and my workmates regularly go here for our lunch. The Mac n Cheese and the pies are just beautiful. I organised my Teams Christmas Dinner here and they went above and beyond for us. Extremely welcoming and friendly staff. I would definitely recommend.

Very professional, clean and tidy.

Unfortunately I ordered the vegetarian meal, The New Yorker, and the meat version was given to me, which as a vegetarian for years is quite upsetting. We didn’t release the mistake until the vegetarian version came out. I had already eaten the burger. We approached the bar staff to explain what had happened and they offered no apology. Not even a sorry. I think having similar dishes that are called The New York Deli and the New Yorker, that are meat and veggie respectively, is not ideal especially when the staff don’t make it clear which one they are serving. My wife clarified ‘The New Yorker?’ before it being put down and was told ‘yes’. I am lucky I’m not allergic or this could have been 100 times worse. I would avoid this overpriced pub and won’t be returning.

Unless you want to be insulted by the rude staff whilst you tuck into some overpriced food, I would say this is one to avoid! Much better places to go in this area.

We ordered through Deliveroo and when I called the restaurant the staff were impeccable. Incredibly kind and very helpful. The food was lovely, we had the vegan New York burger. My friend loved it as is, I personally prefer something with a little more sweetness so having never tried it I opted for the vegan burger sauce. Definitely not a mistake! The sauce is delicious and for me it made the burger even better, although my friend disagrees and thinks it works better than ketchup with the chips. Overall, really could not fault them without making things up. Will definitely be popping in for a drink sometime! Thank you to all of the team!

very friendly first time I've been here In years popped in for a Guinness while i was waiting for my takeaway ( well it was a hot day ) while i was there spotted that most of their beers appeared to be whitstable bay so I thought I'll have a half of the lager wow very nice light crisp and the Guinness was perfect too.

Fantastic pub been here a few times now there's a large variety of drinks to choose from the food is all cooked in house and is absolutely fantastic!! The staff are really friendly and super helpful. I reccomend a visit here.

Great pub, great food. Five of us met up here recently. We were a bit surprised to find they didn’t have any cask ales and, worse still, no fish and chips on the menu. However, on the plus side, the staff were very friendly, and the place was very pleasant indeed. We had the Whitstable Bay IPA which was good (but not from a cask). For lunch I had the steak & kidney pie with spring onion mash. It’s no exaggeration to say that it was possibly the finest steak & kidney pie I’ve ever eaten. The quality and quantity of the beef was amazing! I would return just for that alone! Overall, very good place with great food.

The decor is lovley, great staff (George was amazing and so knowledgeable), a hidden gem for the area in my opinion! Hand pressed burgers and home cooked pies. Lovley!

Excellent. Walk past this place all the time, and stopped in just for a pint today with the in-laws. We stayed and had drinks, dinner and dessert. Couldn’t rate this place higher. The heartiest, most warming food you will find. A real gem. The pies had a perfect crust to filling ratio, the mac and cheese had the exact right amount of cheese and the chips, wow. Lovley settings, great vibes, wicked staff. Well done lads, will be back next weekend.

A reasonable pub, let down by its overpriced food. We had quite a wait for our dinner even though there was nobody eating - it seemed that they were busy with their Deliveroo orders. The food was very nice, however and the staff were professional and polite. Overall the pub was pretty decent and there was also a good selection of beers on offer.

Lovely pub, the lads behind the bar are always friendly. Nice selection of food and drinks in a cosy atmosphere. Quite pricey, but I'm not from Central London and I know it's more expensive here. Definitely worth a visit.

Shepherd Neame is famed for its cask beers. But this pub chooses to leave its four handpumps unused! It will not get any custom from me until this changes.

Spent 40 quid here on food and drink Monday. My card stopped working today to took 50 out of a friend's account to get my tea etc in cash. Came back here and was poured a pint, had a large glup only to be told they can't take cash. And refused to let me have the rest of the pint anyway as it would have to be thrown away. 0 human decency and customer respect. Letting that one pint go would have ensured my return but instead they have lost a customer for life. Hate the place.

I am very picky in terms of food and I can assure you that this pub serves excellent food. A good selection of burgers, pies and Mac and cheese, all done with attention and care. Definitely recommend it.

Live in the area and this is one of the pubs I rotate through. It’s a bit off the beaten path of Borough High Street but worth seeking out. The Duke of York is a Shepherd Neame pub which is rare in SE1 and a nice change of pace. They serve Samuel Adams on draught, which as an American is a bonus when feeing nostalgic. Overall it has a good atmosphere, solid food, never gets too crowded and has outdoor seating. Can’t ask for more in a local.

Gorgeous wood panelled pub with a decent beer selection, and an inventive burger menu. Edit: a year later I returned here for food! The staff are awesome, really friendly and seem to genuinely enjoy working there :) and the food is excellent (absolutely love how many vegan / vegetarian options there are!) We both got a burger, and I got a pie whilst my friend got mac and cheese. Technically four mains but we were hungry and it all sounded great. Happy to report the quality lived up to the hype 😄 all very fresh, flavoursome, well presented. Can't wait to come back! Can't fault the beer selection either. Great range of draught and bottles!

We were greeted with very friendly staff, the two young servers could not have been more helpful.  The beer, especially the ruby ale was very moreish and the was hot and food delicious.  The only criticism (no fault of the staff) was the French Open tennis final was on the TV and 6 young Spanish customers, who were cheering on Nadal, asked for the volume to be turned up.  The volume was a little loud and spoiled the atmosphere and the nice quiet Sunday afternoon for us.

Great Local pub, table service, hand sanitiser, easy registration, doing everything right in the COVID environment.
