The staff are always very friendly. The atmosphere is always good in this pub. Bonus there is a wicked dj there on Saturdays too!!!! Get yourselves down here and give it a try you won’t be disappointed esp at the weekends

We love The Duke ❤️. So friendly and accommodating to us as we hold our monthly business meetup there. The team have always been nothing short of amazing, from welcoming our group to food and drink. Price and food are perfect for us and I can vouch that the beer is varied and very well kept and served. Would thoroughly recommend The Duke in Surbiton and we hope to be back many times in the future.

Basic pub grub of limited choice BUT of high quality in all respects. The pie is proper shortcrust with adequate filling, the salads do not stint on the quality components. All very good. Sadly the experience is let down by poor management. Real ale choice limited to just one ale, Prosecco was warm due to the fridge having been turned off "again". Why should one have to drink warm white wine having paid a premium price for the privilege? Pity.

Booked a 50th Birthday Party seven months before the event, checked in with the manager repeatedly since then, including in person only the week before: “don’t worry, everything’s set up for you”. During the afternoon of THE DAY OF THE EVENT, we heard from the DJ that he’d been told not to arrive until 9:30 on the night - essentially the manager had thoughtlessly gone ahead and advertised live rugby in the meantime and, when we called them, was “sorry” but could no longer honour our booking. An astonishing and unparalleled level of incompetence - they would have made a hell of lot more money from the guests from our event and clearly can’t be trusted with the basic management of running events - but also callously irresponsible: guests were coming from as far away as Scotland and my wife was devastated.

Adam was absolutely amazing. Such a lovely vibe in the pub, I will be returning many times that much I can guarantee!

Had a really lovely lunch here with family and friends, we were very impressed with the service and the quality of the food and the staff were very helpful, patient and knowledgeable of refreshments available as we did not know the local beers, suggestions were great, had a lovely afternoon. I was firstly impressed by the overall feel of the pub, I love the vintage style and the attention to detail is a really nice touch that sets the duke apart from many other pubs. The fried chicken ranch burger prepared and recommended to me by chef Niv was the definitive highlight of my visit, with crispy yet juicy chicken and well seasoned fries with a great tasting bbq dip too. I will definitely be back to try more from the menu in the coming months.

I have not long moved in the area, I was recommended to the Duke pub. The staff were every efficient, friendly and food was brilliant. We were served by a lady Rhiannon, and not only did she serve with a smile, she bought our food out, and even went out of her way to ensure we were happy with everything (even though it was busy). We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and will defiantly be coming back. Service with a smile

Four of us for lunch on Sunday. Booked online. Management unilaterally cancelled it by email. Called to ask why. Something to do with the football. They thought we might be trying to watch it with declaring that we were doing so. Told him we weren’t. Completely unapologetic about cancelling without a phone call. Managed to negotiate our booking back. Bizarre. Food very poor indeed. Would strongly not recommend - lots of good pub food in the area. Drinks good and reasonable. Staff generally friendly - apart from this manager. Said he would hit us over the head with his book if were still there at 5.30 on account of the football. We told him, yet again, that we would not be - and indeed we were not. Poor experience.

Had booked a table at the Duke for 4 of us today, to find out at 3pm there were only 2 which one was Beef and one was Chicken. To have mimimum roast dinners at this time is very poor i think. We wont be visitng The Duke anytime soon and won't be recomending it to anyone. Is bad service no apoligies or anything.

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime, our first visit for probably over a year and pleasantly surprised how much nicer/cleaner and better kept the pub was since previously. Had a couple of sandwiches which were well-presented and good value for money. Will definitely be back, maybe for a meal next time.

New team they have brought in are fantastic, I knew the other landlord and staff well but these new guys are lovely people. Been here a few times lately with my family and I have to say I will not be back as long as Mr Cameron is the manager. Rude, arrogant and his attitude towards customers is appaling. He should not be working in customers service if he doesn't know how to talk to people properly.

Extremely disappointed with this place. It used to be so good when it was managed by Alex and Wendy. Now it’s appalling. Will never be back. Manager is the rudest person I’ve ever met. Such a disgusting attitude. Recommend to avoid it don’t spend your money in there.!!!

Very big place in the center of Surbiton (just near the rail station) for this pub, many different dishes and huge choice of beers, we took the sirloin and was very very good. Gooooood!

We visited as it had changed hands a while back and had heard good things. 5 adults and 2 little ones. Beer not great, with one being returned as tasted soapy. Glasses very marked and one water glass arrived with a large crack in it. Sunday roast pretty average but gravy had a very odd taste and root veg undercooked. Staff were lovely and good with the kids but other than a sincere apology, nothing to indicate the problems would be addressed. Unlikely to return.

Came with family today, two of us ordered a burger. Both came absolutely charred to bits, abdolutely dry and burnt! Immediately handed it back, requesting a burger meat without black char. Waitress then began to explain how this is "normal when you chargrill, and if we made you another one it would look the same". I reluctantly took back my (now cold) burger, and sat there picking off all the soot and char from the outside, it still tasted like I was literally eating the grill it was made on, I now need to go detox from this carcinogenic 'food'. In an ideal situation, a waitress would have common sense and agree that no burger should be served charred black and perhaps offer a refund?!

I went for lunch the other day and had the beef and bone marrow pie served with triple cooked chips. The pie despite being a frozen one and not homemade was very nice and tasty, the chips were ok but were not triple cooked chips. The chips were frozen which there is nothing wrong with that but dont market them as triple cooked! I'm a chef and do understand there is a certain amount of poetic licence allowed when describing food but there is a lot of difference between a well cooked triple cooked chip and a frozen one. Despite that, the staff were very friendly and reasonably priced

Food was good as always, along with the service. However the fruit crumble for desert was a dissapointment; too sweet, poor crumble, real shame.

I use to frequent the Victoria until they went all gastro and expensive. The Duke had a refit a couple of years ago and I really like the vibe in there. It's down to earth and friendly. I always find the staff really helpful and the food tasty. It's pretty basic pub grub but as a veggie, I can get a good meal and a good pint in there. They are also great for gin! I last came here for lunch with my sister and brother-in-law when they were visiting from the South-West. It was a Friday lunch time and was pretty quiet. A few months ago, I spent a whole day in here with friends eating and drinking. I've also seen quite a few people in there with dogs, so shows they are relaxed and dog friendly. This place is my favourite in town for pub grub.

Tonight we have been out and about in Surbiton and following some awful service at the pub across the road we popped to The Duke. It's been a month or so since my last visit and again it's flawless when it comes to the service and cleanliness of this pub. Credit where it's due they really do try and tonight I had a lengthy chat with the owner about his Gins and my husband chatted alway to another staff member about the beer. See this is why this and a couple of the others in Surbiton are busy as thy just get the service right. I had a double G&T and a pint of craft beer £9.60. Great value and quality. Had food before and it's been great, sadly tonight we didn't eat as he kitchen closed at 9. Even more reason to pop back in again. Well done, great pub.

My partner, my dog and I go to the Duke quite often. The Sunday roast is ALWAYS great and reasonably priced. We have also had burgers, fish pie, veggie options and they have all been spot on. We are pretty picky about our food and The Duke always delivers. But what makes this place so good is the staff. They are just lovely in every way, nothing is too much trouble, when they smile it's a genuine one- not forced in any way, they are professional, personable and happy! The girl from the North East and the girl with the red hair (sorry, I don't know your names!) In particular are brilliant.I have reviewed the Duke before but I just felt I should review it again to say how great it is.Thank you.

To celebrate his 7th birthday, our son chose The Duke because he wanted fish and chips for his lunch. Although the portion was slightly smaller than in the past, he thoroughly enjoyed it. The rest of the family's meals were excellent; roast lamb and beef were both generous and well cooked with plenty of tasty gravy. The vegetables were delicious, and the extra bowl of parsnips, sweet potato and kale were wolfed down by our elder daughter. The desserts were both generous and delicious, both the crumble and the sticky toffee crumble bringing huge smiles to everyone's faces. Discrete service meant we were able to chat away and enjoy a relaxed family meal - exactly what we were after!

The Duke was awesome. Inviting and comfortable. The beef and ale pie was scrumptious, HUGE and delicious.

We enjoyed a festive celebration at The Duke in Surbiton on December 19th and a large group of 26 people. I We arrived and instantly we were given an all out Christmas welcome from a young lady dressed as Mrs Claus and the pub's manager equally just as festive. We were shown our area of the pub and that impressed me more as we was not crammed in. The tables are perfectly decorated with some great touches such as handheld photo booth props, homemade table decorations and beautiful vintage glasses. Now, I'm impressed and as a 49 years young lady I have been on many Christmas Meals with my employers and this already by far was outstandingly the best. The manager made Cocktails & Mocktails at the table for us all and I've never seen this done before. The food was again superb and piping hot and tasty, really tasty indeed. The day that then the evening was brilliant and it's down to how the pub welcomed us, looked after us and made us feel so wanted and we know that sounds so odd, but we really did feel so happy and without a doubt it was the best Christmas we have had out. The photo's made a really lovely surprise at the end of the meal where they somehow printed the so quickly and gave them as little gifts. I have seen many of the reviews on here and I see a mixed bag, yet all I can say is that if they can get Christmas this good, it must be like this all the time. I visited yesterday 2nd Jan and the food was good I had Buttermilk Chicken burger and my husband had the Beef Pie. The service was just as good as the night I attended with my work. Great Gin too, Little Bird is a must try.

I've been there a few times now for lunch and dinner and I've had more bad food experiences than good, the British Beef & Ale Pie was hard and dry, mash was luke warm, the burgers are served on a brioche bun which is too sweet, the Roast Sweet Potato, Avocado & Kale Wrap consisted of avocado's going brown and hardly any sweet potato in a soggy wrap, therefore non edible, they're polite and ask you how your food was and no matter how awful you say it was, they have a robotic response - "sorry to hear that, let me know if you want anything else" - I wouldn't recommend eating here if you want a nice dinning experience

Good pub. Recently refurbished, has a good feel. The food was good. Nothing super special but good and better than many in Surbiton.

Very good and varied menu. Freshly cooked food which makes a lovely change from the heat from the freezer type of pub grub. Staff very friendly. All in all a good place for lunch.

We visited this weekend with family/friends and stayed for a late lunch.The food was decent... I had the whitebait starter which was nice, followed by the short rib and mash which was a recommendation as the pie was off that day and I have to say it was a good recommendation. The rib was tender and pulled apart easily, the mash and veg was tasty and the sauce with it was rich and flavoursome.If I had to pick on anything the sauce may have been a bit too rich but I would rather it that way than the other.I didn't drink or have a dessert but they looked good enough and the drinks were a little expensive but no worse than anywhere else in the area!If your a local I would definitely go there now and again and as someone who isn't I would head back if suggested by my sister without any worries at allThanks for a nice afternoon!

For lunch one afternoon we stopped in on the Duke of York. After perusing the menu we landed on sharing a Hickory-smoke beef brisket wrap and a Scotch egg with brown sauce.The food was good but it just didn't wow me. I enjoyed the meal but I can't really remember one thing that really stood out and made me think "I could totally eat that again". This was the first time that I had tried "brown sauce" which came with the Scotch egg. Brown sauce is a British/Irish condiment. It can taste tart or sweet depending on where you get it. It was pretty good. Not something I would embrace I don't believe but I gave it a try!The bar was well stocked and the atmosphere was totally pubby and inviting. We walked by there on a weekend night and it was BUMPING! Totally packed!Go, eat, try the brown sauce for goodness sake, enjoy!

This has to be my favourite pub in Surbiton. The staff are so friendly and the service is amazing. Being gluten intolerant, I usually struggle to find anything that I can eat however the chef always goes out of their way to ensure I enjoy a great meal. I typically order 'Chicken & Chips', which comes in a buttermilk batter. Instead of the batter the chef fries the chicken and perfectly flavours it with seasonal herbs. This is just a little touch that really makes a difference! The pub has a friendly and inviting atmosphere. It is a great place to catch up with my friend over lunch - especially as they allow dogs, which means we can bring her adorable puppy along too!

A good pub for a drink, even if a little let down by the "beer garden." The selection of largers and ales is good and currently on trend as is the gin collection.The small portions of food served look as if the menu has been written from a list of "food that is trendy right now" from any number of websites that offer advice to chefs lacking creativity.Despite this, the food was good.
