Excellent pre-theatre experience

I was very early to see Hamilton at the Victoria Theater. I asked if it was ok if I take my time with dinner. The staff were super friendly. Tho there was hardly anyone there when I arrived, they were fully booked with reservations before the show. I was welcomed in, not rushed and had a lovely meal. When they really got crowded and needed my table, I offered to move to the bar area. They insisted I did not have to. (But I wasn’t going to hold down a table for 4 by myself.) That kind of service - combined with good food and tasty beer - makes for a great restaurant. And I did move to the bar area. (This was end of November 2024.)

It's OK, not a huge fan of busy pubs and the price for a round of drinks almost made me cry but being central London and for convenience sure it does the trick. Some cute interior decor and many will like it

Wow! 40 years visiting London & never been told "stop acting like a dick" by young Barlady here! Her manner from outset was abrupt & rude which I pointed out to her. Picked this place for British history & ambience on a wet & very cold January Sunday afternoon. Only one red on offer too. I'm totally gobsmacked...I'm British btw & discovering more of London...er won't be returning lol

I just want to know how you can look someone dead in the eye, and charge them £2.40 for a lime soda. Not even a nice lime soda with fresh lime juice and loads of lime wedges. A pint glass, with artifical cordial and soda from the tap. £2.40. Mad ting

Good Samuel Smith's pub across the road from Victoria Underground Station. One cask beer on handpump; a good pint of Old Brewery Bitter served from a traditional wooden cask. Lots of outdoor seating. The Duke of York is on the site of a previous pub which was demolished as part of the ongoing modernisation of the whole area. The new pub is built in Edwardian style with trademark Sam Smith's dark wood and etched glass. There is a downstairs Public Bar and another room upstairs with a bar and restaurant. As with all Sam Smith's pubs, no swearing is allowed and mobile phones or tablets may not be used (other than to pay!).

I loved this pub so much that I came back. The best fish and chips I've had in London. The atmosphere takes us back to when the pub first opened. The service is impeccable. I loved it.

Visited the Duke of York in Victoria after remembrance day. Popped in for a pint and a snack. It’s got to be the worst food I’ve ever tasted. The staff were very unpolite and rude. You can tell this is a tourist spot. No consideration of customer service, had to ask for a full refund on food, response was shaking their heads. I asked for the company details and email. I’ve just found out he’s written down wrong information. Avoid this place….

It is a most wonderful find. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We had a bar lunch here. However, there is a restaurant upstairs with a more extensive menu. Our food was delicious, and the brewery's own brand diet cola was very good. It is the most wonderful place to stop for lunch or dinner, or even some drinks with friends.

Steak pie is delicious! Service is excellent! Excellent! Next to the theatre.. perfect to see Hamilton!

Just a pit stop on a sleepy early Tuesday afternoon, so I cant really rate atmosphere, but a very pleasant one. Sat inside on a mild October day, there was plenty of seats in this spacious pub. Wasn't sure I'd review but the service and friendliness from Brent was top rate and the bathrooms were impeccably clean and well appointed. As I type now the table opposite me is being cleaned right after the last customers vacated. This pub smacks of a well managed and professional establishment. Keep it up!

Very dull and boring place. Drinks were good but it felt like a spot for seniors. Didn't stay long.

This is one of those venues that's just not what you expect. The food was really nice, tasty and filling. We ate from the bar menu, but that was only because we knew nothing about a restaurant upstairs with a wider menu. You'll find no branded beers and spirits here, everything comes from a traditional Yorkshire brewery, however that doesn't dissuade from a really nice experience. The big unique contribution the venue makes to a great time is THIS IS A DIGITAL DETOX PUB.

There was no food, or 1 star. Nice little pub. no music, very quiet, we enjoyed these moments, 2 visits. Good beer.

The homemade scotch egg was very good. The rest of the food we tried was terrible. In particular, the Crispy Squid appetizer was undercooked formed squid rings that were unedible. We shared 3 appetizers and when we asked for side plates, they said they could only find one. We ate some great food at some excellent pubs during our vacation in London. This was not one of those pubs. Give it a miss.

A real success! There were 3 of us and all 3 of us loved this exceptionally beautiful place! The beer is excellent, especially the organic beer. We came for a drink. The time passed so quickly that we found ourselves having dinner upstairs. An excellent Fish&Chips of exceptional freshness and quality. Same for the fries. We had a blast! Really! The waitress upstairs, Marey, is very cheerful and extremely kind! Thank you Marey, and congratulations for your very good and beautiful French. (Your cousin is wrong, you speak it very well). Downstairs, to finish the evening, we were served by Brentley, very helpful and above all commercial. Thank you Brentley. Very nice Sam Smith's pub with their excellent range of beers and great food that's a bit different from other pub chains!

This restaurant is horrible. Terrible customer service. Inadequate information about horrible food. I strongly advise not to visit.

there is a thief in the pub who steals phones. very quickly and imperceptibly pulled out the phone from my pocket. It's unpleasant and I don't want to go back there anymore. I think this is not an isolated case. be careful

Pub number 5 of the pub crawl and the worst! We didn't even get a chance to taste the beer as we were ignored repeatedly at the bar.

The fish and chips are good, although the food portions are smaller than expected for the price. Their drink selection is great with tasty drinks. The service was also great with friendly staff ready to answer questions. The interior was very beautiful and Victorian style themed.

Kate was amazing. She was friendly and had such a positive attitude. Not sure our travels will bring us back this way again, but if it does, we will stop by and have another pint.

Very overrated. What the menu says is not what you are served. Their sauce tartare is a sorry excuse for a salad dressing. Chips came with no sauce. Scampi was ridiculous.

If you're in London stop by here....especially if it's raining :)

This is a perfect pub for a silent time. It’s great how nobody makes noise and you can just enjoy a quiet time. Bar staff are fantastic and really understand what a pub is. Thanks for a lovely evening!

N place with English charm, dark wood and leather decoration, all kinds of beers (9 Pound), large and clean bathrooms, a nice stop in front of Victoria station to have a drink and take a taxi to your hotel!

The draft beers are not very nice, wouldn't go back.

It was delighted by the cosy atmosphere and excellent service. The interior of the pub is charming and inviting, making it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring that my dining experience was top-notch.

Very very average food. Pie was super tough. Seafood catch was ok, not the best. Sausage and mash was also nothing to write home about. Best thing was the starters, as is all too common these days. Chicken, and hummus both well worth it. Service staff were lovely.

I was here a couple of months ago and the food was great but what we received last night was shocking. The burrata dish should be done by trading standards. It is described as 'Pulled Burrata, Heritage Tomato, Basil, Dukkha' on the menu but the reality was a dish full of cold, cheap tomatoes with barely a quarter of a ball of supermarket budget mozzarella. Stay away!

A nice place to stop in for a beer after travelling. Certainly better than the other pubs in the general vicinity.

Lovely, beautiful classic pub. Splendid ancient decorations and windows. Fish and chips were very good (I was surprised I had to ask for malt vinegar, though. Maybe they don't expect tourists to want it) Hamburger was a bit overcooked (we had not specified how we wanted). Good beer Nice staff. I loved that they asked on their own initiative if we were heading to the theatre show aside so they could check if they could serve us on time for us not to arrive late.

Just popped in for a drink with friends. Can't comment about food, but service was pleasant, they had a good selection of their own beers and spirits, and although it was a but quiet (late afternoon), it had a nice atmosphere. Decor was fab, dark wood panelling, and lots of interesting photos all over the walks. Will definitely return.

It is a nice, but expensive pub. They only server their own brand of beer. The stout was good, but lighter.than Guinness. The dinning room is nicely decorated in a traditional way. The kitchen is open all day.

Nice place but the service is extremely slow!

Really great atmosphere and service. Go up a couple flights of stairs to a comfortable pub with good food. Order at the bar and wait for the food. The desserts were great too. I’d recommend this place to anyone. There is no kids menu so keep that in mind.

We were very well received, this place with magnificent decor, the food is good, everything was there to have a pleasant time.

This place is a total joke Staff are rude Management is terrible Made my whole group out to be lairs over a meal that they had sent wrong and I asked them to change it but got told we are lying and didn’t ask the girl for the correct meal which I stated the child is allergic to some of the things but she insisted her staff are well trained and customers ain’t her problem!! This place needs to learn people skills and how to respect customers literally rude totally unacceptable Not to mention the racist comment about us being Irish like shocker! If I was you id avoid at all costs Go elsewhere and spent you’re money with a good service

Visiting from the states and this place had the British feel all over it from the old style keg pump to the private room with the nice seats. Service was great bartenders were funny and made us a drink they normally wouldn't. Would visit again !

Food was not the best, average at best, inedible at worst. Roast chicken dinner was covered in cajun seasoning salt, nowhere on the menu did it say a thing about cajun salt, if it had I would not have ordered. I mentioned it to the staff, so they could amend their menu so people such as myself, with allergies would know not to order it. The barmaid was polite and went to speak to her senior staff member called Kate. Unfortunately Kate came out looking for an argument, saying I should have told her sooner, which I agreed I should have done, she was very dismissive of my comment about the cajun salt, was very rude, at the end saying what do you want me to do, apologise? I responded it would have been nice but it's too late now after you have Bern so rude. She was also rude to my friend who is in her 80s who suggested a little seasoning whole cooking the fish would be nice.

Service could have been better. Ordered the half roast chicken, nothing on the menu mentioned peri peri salt smothering everything on the plate rendering half of it inedible for me. I have allergies and bow have hives and a headache, even though we asked if the glaze could be withheld. Won't go again.

The atmosphere was amazing, it gives you classic British vibes. The fish and chips dish was so good. Also the blonde lady at the 1st floor's bar was such a sweetheart.

Nice beer at London prices. Nice dining area. However, food was a huge disappointment. Fried fish dish of scampi, goujons and small portion of fish consisted of 80% batter and 20% fish. Despite contacting them by email to complain did not receive response. Not a good advertisement for foreign tourists who were in there.

It may seem strange to title a review of a place about the toilets however as I have stated in other reviews of places in London if the toilets are good then the place you are in is probably going to be ok . This bar is situated in a very touristy part of London , located next to the theatre showing the musical Hamilton . It’s all dark wood / etched glass and no tvs . Love it . If I want to watch the football etc I will go to the sports bar just up the road . The service was fine I don’t need the barman to be my new best friend just pouring me a nice cold beer will do . We didn’t eat here do I can’t comment on the foid . Samuel smiths beer was nice and tasty and obviously the pipes etc are being looked after . The toilets are clean / tidy and the hand dryers work . Tick .. I will be back in for a beer the next time I’m in London .. it’s nothing fancy but a good pub .

Friendly staff and delicious food. I came two times in three days although my trip to London is only for 5 days. Excellent fish and chips , friendly helpful smiling staff, beautiful decoration, everything was perfect. Definitely will be one of my a must visit place when I come back to London.

A good pub with good pub food. The staff is pleasant, the kitchen is quite fast and the quality of the food is satisfactory. The decoration is new but carefully studied to look old, which is, without a doubt, a plus point.

Absolutely fine for a pre theatre drink, best avoided for a meal pre theatre or otherwise. Fish platter, chips were very undercooked inedible, fish was OK although inside of fish was very wet batter. Garlic bread was shocking, worse than I remember when garlic bread first became available to buy in shops. Staff spent plenty of time preventing drinkers taking dining tables but didn't do any check back, I could tell this was a very poor choice for food, there are zillions better options in the area which is ashame as upstairs has a classic quite comfortable pub feel about it oh and the beer I chose smell of cheese. Stick to downstairs in future for a drink only.

What a great place. I visited pubs from the same company before, but this one is the most beautiful I've seen. Multiple bars on the first floor, a very nice restaurant on the first floor, in different areas. The have like their own drinks, a great menu to choose from. And their service is really great, they do all their best to provide the customer with the best service. My friends and me will definitely come back to this great place!

Used to come here for dinner quite a lot when visiting the theatre, however tonight we were pretty much refused service. My daughter suffers with tourettes and we were offered a small table for 2 which would normally have been fine, however my daughter was already tic-ing and we asked if we could be seated away from the thing that was triggering her tics. We were told there were no other tables free for 2 people and they had to keep the booths free for groups of 4 or more. We were told they could not seat us and we'd have to go elsewhere. Even though we explained why we could not be seated at the first table this obviously fell on deaf ears. Disability discrimination at its highest. Will never step foot in this place ever again as long as I live and will make sure I never recommend to others like I used to!

Popped in before going to see Wicked. Good food, reasonably priced, nice polite service, well worth a visit if you want decent pub grub rather than the arty restaurants that charge a fortune!

We went upstairs, got some food and a drink. While there aren’t a crazy amount of veggie options, the Mac & cheese was thoroughly enjoyable. The ambiance upstairs was very cool, dark and leather, kind of like you’re in a horror movie about to start.

Booked online, a bit of a pain, to go to The Duke of York in Victoria for a meal, its next door to the Victoria Palace Theatre. On approaching, still some 3 to 4mtrs away, the restaurant's bar I was immediately greeted in a very helpful & friendly manner and and was directed to our table. Although it was busy, as you might expect as the show Hamilton had just finished next door, the service was quick and the food good. I am a great believer in good service and throughout our time in the restaurant I noticed numerous occasions where the staff went out of their way to help customers, clearly noticing small things. e.g. a lady was sitting at a table on a stool as there were no free chairs but a staff member must have noted it and as soon a chair became available she swapped the stool for a chair. To the manager, good staff selection and great training in customer service, rather rare these days. Michael

Emphasized short time for lunch but it was anyway delayed due to mixup between tables. Food, sandwiches, were good and beer was delicious.

Pour placer le cadre : on connaît tous la "gastronomie" anglaise, fort peu réputée à l'étranger... C'est peut-être pour cette raison qu'il y a une quantité monstre de restaurants / cafés italiens, de restaurants libanais, d'hamburger, etc. Le tout ayant, bien entendu, aucun rapport avec cette fameuse gastronomie "British" 😅 Quel plaisir de trouver un pub accueillant, dans un style classique de pub, avec des serveuses dynamiques et agréables (qui prennent le temps de répéter pour s'adapter à une maîtrise de l'anglais peu élevée, voire même se tenter à présenter les mets en français) ! Quel plaisir de trouver au menu des légumes (en fonction du choix effectué) 👍 Le plat était bon bien que simple (nombreux choix possibles), les boissons proposées sont nombreuses et satisfaisantes et les desserts correspondent aux attentes. Cerise sur le gâteau : le service est rapide ! Je mets donc un 5/5 pour les raisons évoquées ci-dessus.

Heureusement que je me suis pas arrêté aux avis critique de ce restaurant car j'ai beaucoup aimé les différents plats choisis ainsi que la bière. Dans la continuité le personnel est très avenant et le décor est magnifique sur le plan artistique. Très chic.

Walked in at 2:00pm and there was no one to greet you, ok so I just found a seat. Sat at my table for 30 minutes and waitresses were walking by yet not one greeted me or even acknowledged my sitting. No one came to ask what I wanted in that time and yet they sat and served another guest right next to me that came in earlier. Was dressed well but obviously American so I am led to believe that they do not like Americans there. My trip was going so well with kindness and polite service from the other establishments I visited. BIG DONT GO TO “Duke of York” in London near Victoria Station.

Great food and atmosphere. Enough space in the dining area unlike many pubs. For a group of 5 it was £100 so reasonable for quality of the food. Recommend if in the area.

Walked in at 9:20 and both bartenders aggressively told us they were closing at 10pm. Very very rude.

Lovely Sam Smith's pub. Quaint & original. Staff helpful and cheerful. So I'd recommend Sam Smith's pubs for those who use hearing aids and can't stand being in noisy places because the hearing aids overdo it. (My Dad has this issue). If you're a bit of a Harry Potter fan the some of these pubs are the closest you'd ever get to the Leaky Cauldron IRL. Just don't expect a butter beer! A Tech free detox as well.
