I went with a friend for food and drinks, lovely relaxed atmosphere, staff were amazing and the food was lovely. I would definitely recommend visit. I had the chicken burger and it was delicious.

This is a local hotel to ourselves, but we have not eaten here for a while. Decided to go early evening 5pm for a meal and a few beers. We never booked and took a chance, but there was no problem getting a table in the main room as opposed to the bar area. I would recommend you book if arriving after sixish and ask for a table in the main eating area. Never go to the soulless back room. I like my real ales, and one of the guest beers happened to be on Swan Blonde, and it was in perfect condition. The tables do have a buzzer that you can press to order food or drinks, but I chose to go to the bar. I went for the burger and the wife went for sea bream linguine. Both meals were excellent, and my burger was top quality. Only one problem they tried to be different and served it in a wooden box! Please just use a plate. Two meals, four beers, two wines, and a glass of soda (free), came to £61 and represented excellent value. The background music for once was good and created a good atmosphere. The staff were excellent, friendly, and cheerful, especially the lad responding to the table buzzer requests for food and drinks. The good thing is once you have eaten the meal, the table is yours till you decide to leave so you can relax.

Been here loads of times with work (sleeping in the rooms) but we did have a night out with work colleagues just before Xmas. This is the classy bar in Barrow, no doubt about that. Was really busy with nice people, the bar is huge and has loads of choice. The wine is great!!

Only ate at the Duke in the evening once on our two day stay. Very relaxed ambience, buttons on table for service. I had the camembert starter which was superb, loads of melted cheese and bread. Then the burgers which were enormous and filling with sweet potato chips. Beer was tip top and I was told the chardonnay house white was "delicious". Excellent all round.

Food was exceptional and service was top notch. Entire meal was about £30 per head for 2 courses and drinks. Portion sizes were generous and the food was fairly priced as everything was delicious. Would definitely visit again!

The roast was really good. Party of 5 and we all enjoyed our main course. The sticky toffee pudding was extremely dry so had to send it back. Service was good 😊

Starting with the drink - The bar has a range of ale that would put most places to shame, simply fantastic, I had 3 different Lancaster ales and all were top notch. The food was without doubt punching above its price, never seen pigeon for £7.50….and it was perfectly cooked. There has been a change in the culinary heart of this place and it is only for the betterment of Barrow.

Went here for a special occasion whilst up in the Lakes. The menu looks good and some decent specials. Starters were good, especially the pork belly. The main courses weren’t what I expected, the sea bream dish with a pea fricassee was basically pan fried sea bream with fried potatoes, peas, chorizo and baby onions. No sauce that I could pick up. Didn’t get this dish at all and I don’t think it was served as intended, I notice now it has been replaced with Sea Bass. The haddock and chips, was good but the chips were so big and so many of them it would have been better with fries. And the mushy peas had seen better days.

Stayed overnight for work and couldn't be more delighted - lovely, tasteful rooms that respect the building's heritage, very comfy bed, delicious food (dinner and breakfast) and a great price! A great asset to Barrow and a reminder of why we should support local business above chain hotels. Will 100% stay again

We ate today party of 7. From the time we arrived, the staff were very friendly and eager to please. We were seated quickly and had the menu explained. Starters were excellent and presented beautifully. The main courses came with just the right amount of time to rest and again were nicely presented. Clean plates all round! A small issue was quickly and efficiently resolved with no fuss. Deserts and coffees were lovely and we found the drinks to be reaonsably priced. Will definitely return and would recommend. Staff are working very hard and the chef is producing food to a good standard. It's been a few years since we had eaten at the doe but would not hesitate to book again.

This grand old hotel has a restaurant and bar that looks like it should be in a Roaring 20s classic movie. Perfect use of Edison style lighting highlights the leather seating. Just an amazing looking place. I was there for lunch so I didn’t get the full grand dinner experience but I appreciated that the menu featured a wide variety of foods. My wife and I both loved what we had (pastrami sandwich and fish and chips. We did a tour of the rooms. Each one is unique and feature period era beams but modern amenities.

This is a great location to explore south lakes, hotel was clean and tidy, food was delicious and service fab. Couldn't find fault. Lovely weekend

Had a lovely meal in the Duke. 2 course dinner with plenty of food, and very tasty! Great service and staff couldn't be more helpful. Would happily return!

Terrible. 16 people paid £16 each for afternoon tea. 1st few sandwiches were very good but only a few plates of them. Asked for more sandwiches and staff pulled a face. Waited approx an hour and half for additional sandwiches (egg and tuna on plain bread with great lumps of butter). 2 choices of cake. Slab chocolate fudge and a concoction of something nobody could identify and eat. There was a spicy sausage roll, ok and scones with jam and cream. 1 small bowl of whipped cream between 16 people. Eventually got more, some guests trVelled over a 100 miles for this get together. Mum to be was embarrassed at the offeri g and kept apologising. A number of us complained at the bar, and response was a shrug of the shoulders and 'sorry'. Staff service was non existent. We had to clear tables ourselves and then had to ask staff to remove all the dirty plates from the room. Very disappointed 😞 Appalling food and service. Would not recommend. Definately not worth the money.

We had been here before when visiting Barrow so on this last occasion I didn't check the menu beforehand. I booked online, as usual, and on arrival I did check it and found that it did not have the usual choice, was very limited, and that the prices were, in my opinion, extremely expensive. Good ambience and service, and the food was good but definitely not value for money. Unless the prices are reduced we will be going to Wetherspoon's the next time we visit. Disabled friendly.

Just had Sunday lunch which absolutely dreadful. Duck parfait starter turned up as just as a slab of obviously shop bought, tasteless mess with limp accompanyments. . No bread or crackers were with the dish and only received when asked for. The parfait even had the plastic sheet left on the base. My wife had Garlic mushrooms with a dry and crispy slice of bread which were luke warm at best. The lamb mains turned up cold as were the veg. It was returned to the kitchen where the chef had scraped the lamb and mash on to another plate and poured hot gravy over the plate. The veg were returned to the table having been microwaved. The whole lot was returned to the kitchen and I asked for a refund. The bar staff however were very apologetic and gave us a refund without question. Won't be returning.

Loved the look of the building so we called in for a drink. The atmosphere was really nice and the Christmas decorations were lovely. We didn't eat but noticed food coming out of the kitchen which looked good. We will be back and hopefully stop at this hotel.

Stayed the night and were lucky enough that the chef agreed to add us to his already busy three course Christmas dinner menu. It was fabulous really enjoyed every course! We’ve also eaten here before for Sunday lunch which was also really great. The beers are also very good and have a great selection of their own (Lancaster brewery) plus guest ales. An absolutely great place to eat, we’ll most definitely be back!

We came for a Christmas party and unfortunately we were all disappointed. The turkey mains were all really bland, the fish mains were watery and the veg were all bland and overboiled. The sticky toffee puddings were microwaved too long so they'd gone hard and dry. It was really disappointing and none of us would return unfortunately. I don't normally write reviews but I'd hate for anyone else to waste their money like we did. The staff were all really lovely though.

We received a friendly welcome. The room was comfortable with plenty of space. We didn’t eat in the hotel in the evening but breakfast was very good. Helpful staff. Location was central. Overall I would recommend this hotel.

I love this place. I stayed here on a business trip and I really enjoyed myself. The hotel itself it’s great and it’s amazing that there is such a gorgeous bar/restaurant downstairs. I had the steak which was a little on the expensive side but I don’t mind paying a slightly higher price when it was worth every penny. Perfectly cooked and seasoned and the portion was huge. I was so impressed. The staff are really kind and helpful and they all clearly work so hard.

My first visit here in decades. Met up with friends for lunch. The food was very good, but £13 for Fish & Chips doesn't represent 'value for money'. I had the Mexican Chilli Beef, which was excellent, but don't expect to pay £13 for lunch in Barrow.Also, how can they charge those prices for beer, with Weatherspoons down the road (e.g. Shipyard was significantly more expensive).

Tuve una excelente comida con mi pareja y su hijo en un frío y ventoso sábado por la noche. Teníamos un entrante y una comida principal cada uno. La comida era excelente, tenía chile para mi plato principal, estaba muy sabroso, vino con chips de arroz y un pan plano, mi compañero tiene surf de pollo con salsa Diane, chips y ensalada, su hijo tenía pasta con pollo y chorizo, todo delicioso. Para empezar, comí sopa, mi pareja tiene panceta crujiente y su hijo comió el combo de morrallas, gambas y calamares, nuevamente todo bien. No cabían los postres en que estábamos demasiado llenos. El personal fue excelente, muy atento y acogedor.

Always busy on a Sunday so we had booked to request a table at ground level! Good range of starters, we had the fried Camembert and the chicken livers, both very tasty. The roast dinners are a large portion with loads of very tender meat. We requested extra gravy and a decent sized jug arrived. A very pleasant meal again. Main menu is available too and I can vouch for the fish and chips and steak and ale pie from previous visits.

We were recommended to go here and we wern't dissapointed, the food was very good and the service excellent. I'd booked for a table in the bar but they said they had reserved a table in the restaurant. The table wobbled but the waitress fixed it - the fix didn't last long though. The food was beautifully presented but didn't taste great. The salt and pepper chips (extra £1 charged) needed salt and pepper adding to them. The lemon for the fish had been on the grill and was rather dry and couldn't be used to squirt on the fish. The halloumi for the Jamaican kebabs was dry and didn't taste like it had been on a grill. I did not complain as I was taking visitors out and they seemed reasonably happy, but might not have wanted to offend me. The food was quickly served which made me wonder how fresh it really was. Not a lot of choice for a vegetarian. The draught lager was quite warm. Overall, it wasn't the best meal I've had.

The service today from Beth our waitress was first class!! I explained I was trying to eat healthily and fancied white fish, however, there was only Salmon on the menu today. Beth said she would ask the Chef if there was any white fish available.She came back and said Chef would willingly bake me some Haddock, which I thought was an extra special touch !! There was so much choice on the menu I decided to have the Chicken & Prawns instead. When my meal arrived the Chef had cooked everything healthily without me even asking and it tasted fantastic !! I My Grandson had Sausage, Mash, 2 small Yorkshire puddings, seasonal veg, including mini parsnips, and gravy. We will definetly return. Thank you Beth, and compliments to the Chef too !!!

Very nice place to take a drink. There's eight different real ales, about a hundred gins, staff very smart and loads of them. It's posh Barrow. We normally eat there as well when we're in Barrow but one of our group wanted Indian so we didn't eat there. Food is always popular the place is full of locals and is always v busy.

Popped in after recommended and was totally impressed with everything, the decor, staff, service and in particular the food. Ordered the Cumberland sausage and it was heavenly. The mash was fluffy and the sausage tender and juicy. The Yorkshire Puds were done to perfection. All reasonably priced for the quality

Had dinner here today with family. My duck starter was very tasty, I had king prawns and chorizo kebab, it was really delicious! My husband loved his salmon too, we are going back for dinner tomorrow! It’s now my favourite restaurant in Barrow-in-Furness! The service was very good both the waiter and the waitress served us were very nice and helpful. My mother-in-law forgot her handbag on the table after the dinner and the lovely waiter ran after us to the street and returned the bag to us! Thanks for the lovely dinner and wonderful service!

Amazing food, had the hunters chicken burger and chips which were unbelievably nice. The service was polite and made sure we were okay. Finally the atmosphere was nice and calm not to rushed. Overall very pleased!

El domingo asado aquí como el mejor que he tenido. A menudo nos animamos al momento para un domingo asado, pero debes asegurarte de tener mucha hambre cuando lo hagas. El precio fijo de tres cursos es un buen valor, por lo que siempre intentamos apretar en los tres. Cada vez que hemos comido el mismo plato, se ha presentado de manera diferente, lo que a veces es una pequeña decepción, ya que no obtuviste lo que esperabas, ya sea porque faltan ingredientes o partes diferentes, ya que han cambiado el menú o quizás la disponibilidad estacional. El evento principal es el plato principal que se apila como una torre. Un montón de carne, patatas y diferentes tipos de verduras asadas que me encanta. Los postres también son excelentes, pero a veces ordenas lo mismo que la última vez que visitaste y de alguna manera es un poco diferente. En general, es una gran comida y vale la pena solo por el plato principal. Excelente relación calidad-precio y excelente ambiente de bar con otros comensales y algunas personas que se toman una copa de la cerveza Lancaster Brewery. Continuará saliendo el domingo con hambre.

Visited on Saturday with the family. Squid was lovely, spare ribs great. Main meals were all very good. Beer selection good and well kept. Service was friendly and prompt. Well worth going especially for the squid.

Great afternoon in the Duke. Fantastic sunday dinner i had the lamb. Some people had the beef on the next table. The amount of meat you get is second to none. We were served by karen the waitress who was very attentive right through and made our afternoon unforgettable.

Personally, I did not think it was overpriced for what you get. I had confit duck leg followed by hunter’s chicken burger. Washed down with excellent beer. Can’t comment on desserts as I couldn’t manage one but what I had was all first class.

Called in on our way out for a drink.....OMG.... so expensive no wonder it’s quiet with hardly any customers. £9.25 for one standard lager and a standard G&T.; Go down to Wetherspoons and pay half the price.

Came here again, probably the best in town at the mo for a Sunday Lunch. We booked ahead and specified a ‘ground level’ table, having struggled with the high stools before. All the tables had reserved signs on them so you really do need to book ahead here, easily done as online booking is available. Pleasant quick service, wide range of drinks at the bar with several guests beers, we all had roast lamb and were not disappointed, literally melt in the mouth with a great selection of veg. Plenty of vegetarian options for the non carnivores. We managed a dessert this time, salted caramel waffle, lovely.

A few starters, the mushrooms were good, full menu plus roasts of the day. We had pork and beef, both lovely, proper carved meat, lovely veg, gravy spuds and Yorkshire pud. Other meals appearing on nearby tables all looked good. Extensive range of drinks with several craft ales, wine was reasonable price. Didn’t have room for dessert, maybe next time, and there will be a next time.

We really enjoyed our meal. Starters were so-so, but both our mains were delicious. We didn't stay for pud., and Nescafé at home is always preferred! In all, a pleasant evening, good food and good service. Thank you! Matt

Condujimos a nuestro nuevo hotel para las próximas dos noches, Duke of Edinburgh Hotel, y llegamos temprano. Decidimos almorzar en el restaurante. La anfitriona nos preguntó si habíamos reservado una mesa y después de que dijimos que no, ella nos preguntó si éramos huéspedes del hotel y le dijimos que solo nos estábamos registrando. No sé si esa fue una buena respuesta porque nos mostraron a una habitación trasera, a pesar de que el restaurante no estaba lleno. Como era domingo, tenían un especial de 2 platos. Tenía muchas ganas de ensalada y Hubby ama los platos de salchichas, así que pedí la ensalada de gambas y Hubby tenía la salchicha y el puré. Ambos platos eran muy buenos, a pesar de que estábamos atrapados en la espalda con un bebé quisquilloso cuyos padres amantes del fútbol no solo lo llevarían a casa. Descubrimos que el servidor nos cobró un especial, ya que mi ensalada era un aperitivo. Para cuando terminamos nuestro almuerzo, era hora de registrarse en nuestra habitación.

Good quality burger at a good price with a beer for a £1 on a Thursday night! Would have liked more chips though.

Mi compañero y yo tuvimos el almuerzo del domingo aquí 7/10/18. Los dos comimos carne asada que estaba perfectamente cocida y se derrite en la boca, porciones muy generosas que incluyen 3 papas asadas, puré cremoso, batata asada, zanahoria y chirivía, col con judías verdes, pudín de Yorkshire y deliciosa salsa, todo delicioso. Exprimimos los postres de manzana, pera y migajas de invierno con una jarra de crema pastelera (o podrías comer helado) y una crema de frambuesas con sorbete de frambuesa y 2 galletas caseras de mantequilla dulce, ambas muy buenas. El servicio era bueno, el personal era muy amable y acogedor. Sin duda lo recomiendo y volveremos! !
