There is always a grumpy men and is always a men :( Those who have offices upstairs should not forget that down its a public place with old, young, children, classes and so on. There a lot going on if they want quiet they need to find an office that is more isolated so they can be as grumpy as they are!!!

Went into the Christmas Art Fair this afternoon. I know they were busy, but the service at the cafe counter really was poor. The lady taking the order was so disinterested she wouldn’t even make eye contact and kept talking to another member of staff. She made us feel we were just being a nuisance. The other lady bringing the tea to the table was much nicer and was clearly working really hard to keep on top of things, but by then we felt distinctly unwelcome. The actual pot of tea was good, but I’m not sure I’d go back, I wanted to support a community enterprise but there are so many other good cafes in Leith.

Used to be a good place to read and hang out, .... becoming part-time nursery. I liked the espresso -- a double for 2.20. Good service.

I love the flea market, its a great fun, friendly, atmosphere and you never know what treasures you might find which makes it all the more exciting, 50 stalls full of clothes (lots of vintage), accessories, shoes, jewellery, books, cds, dvds, antiques and crockery as well as childrens toys, teddy bears, vintage dolls, books and clothing. There is a cafe offering tea, coffee, cake, soups and bagels ect and all at a very good price, although it is very chilly in the cafe area its a great way to wile away a rainy afternoon I'd say.

On a very cold day there's nothing better than a big bowl of steaming hot soup. The drill hall is a great place for a coffee and a bun. But the soup and rolls are awesome. Pea and ham today. Served wirh two slices of bread and butter. Great stuff. The brie roll was excellent. It's a good place for chatting to other musicians and artists. The only reason why it's dropped from 5 to 4 is that it was so cold in the hall today. I'm sure it is a temporary thing. I'll be going back.

I've lost count of how many times I've been here over the past couple of years. The food is limited but there's usually something nice to eat. The coffee is good, and the cakes are yummy. If you have young kids, go somewhere else. There may be highchairs and games to play with, but there are no children's portions and nothing healthy. Today we were told off for letting them eat something that wasn't bought there. Fair enough, but to say it in such away that made kids cry was not on. If it's cold outside, it's cold inside too. It's a big hall afterall, and there are heaters hanging down, but they just take the chill off the air. Thankfully they do have a few knee blankets lying about. The toilets? I can only write about the gents. Let's just say I'd rather hold it in than battle the stench and grime. Anyway, after today, my need to feed my children and be comfortable have overcome my desire to support local ethical enterprise and I've decided enough is enough. I'll be going elsewhere.

I'm part of an organisation that is a tenant at Out of the Blue, so I'm around the building a lot. It's a very interesting place because there are all sorts of activities going on and you never know who you'll bump into. The cafe is ace - food is always fresh and they do use a lot of local suppliers. Soup is usually my go to but their specials are worth keeping an eye on. I love that they sell work/jewellery by local artists in the cafe area too!

I haven't tried the cafe, so cannot comment on that. But I liked the venue. An honest, low-key space that hosts different cultural events. It is easy to reach, literally across the street from the Portuguese cafe, Casa Amija, off Leith Walk. I visited during the independent radical book fair and they were showing an excellent documentary (free). I found the whole experience refreshing, another great venue in Edinburgh.

This is a totally unique cafe, set in a multi arts space. There's very often an art exhibition on, which you can enjoy whilst you have your food. The food is good and reasonably priced. The soups are amazing, and made even better by the artisan bread. Coffee is very good. Staff very friendly. If you like your food 'home style,' this is the place for you.

I low key art venue, worth a trip if you are in the Leith area of town. Quite a hidden gem really, could up it's game slightly but always has lots on for the artistic community and the occasional sale of goods.

Community based local organisation with good coffee shop and food. Easily accessible by a no.22 bus. Day we visited small Xmas craft fair was on but check website for what's on. Flea markets, vintage sales on various times throughout the year.not very busy the day we visited but if down that direction and an event is on pop in and worth a look and support local project with a coffee instead of the usual high street chains.

The market is great but the caterer spoils it with appallingly slow service. Food quality eg soups are very good, when you finally get them, but how can tea and coffee take over half an hour. After two weekends in a row of unbelievably slow service, I will bring my own if I am planning to spend any time here - or I will use one of the surrounding cafes.I would no longer plan to eat here - it just isn't worth the stress wondering if they have forgotten...

A warm, welcoming, creative space with great value for money food. Always freshly prepared, soups and other daily specials are reliably delicious. The commitment and enterprising nature of this great space is a credit to the management and well worth supporting. Have enjoyed every single one of my regular visits.

I called in for a cup of coffee and was not disappointed. I was asked if a wanted milk, hot or cold, in the mug or on the side? I was so impressed at being asked all these questions I chose a raspberry cheesecake, which, even though it was the last slices standing, was sweet, tasty and satisfying. I sat in a comfortable seat and took my ease in the large hall. Will definitely return, perhaps to try the cooked menu.

Went to the Fantastic Bruncheon on Saturday. This time round it was a celebration of David Bowie, and a month ago it was Lou Reed, with a brilliant range of Edinburgh musicians.Next month celebrates female artists as part of International Women's Day.Excellent bands playing, and a great atmosphere - kids and dogs welcome.Only drawback was how cold the venue is.Dress up very warm! or join the kids dancing! Also be prepared to wait for a long time to get served.Great coffee, and range of affordable food tho!

I've heard this place praised by friends. My lunch was not fantastic. The soup was claggy with too much potato and too little broccoli and stilton . The staff were underwhelming. Just not helpful. I will go back and give them another try because of the good recomendations I've had and the place is such a good venue. It seems as if the whole operation was having an off day when I went there.

If you are ever in Dalmeny Street, just off Edinburgh's Leith Walk, it's worth popping in to the Drill Hall for a snack - whatever the time of day! We go there at least once a week for Pilates and always make sure we have time before or after to patronise the cafe. Opening hours Monday - Saturday 10am - 5pm. The hot foods are advertised on a board on the way in and, if you're worried that one of the delicious soups will be gone by the time you get out of your class, you can place an order and it will be kept for you. Everything looks and tastes homemade and wholesome - and is extremely reasonably priced. Our favourites are the soups and the coffee. Just one small snag - the cafe tables are situated in a large cavernous space which gets very cold in winter and very hot in summer.

The Drill Hall is one of Leith's Arts Venues, and contains a cafe run by local people. Called the Drill Hall because once it was ... a drill hall. Under the management of "Out of the Blue" it has provided work spaces for all sorts of artists and craftsmen, for dancers and playwrights ...The cafe is neat and tidy and unassuming. The food is good, being mostly soups and mains and snacks. Would I travel across Edinburgh to eat there? No. But if in the area I'll pop in because there's usually something going on, and because they're deserving: they run a successful apprenticeship scheme getting local youngsters into employment. They run weekend markets, exhibitions, events and performances. The cafe is just a good excuse to get you in the door. Please go and visit - and support the arts in Leith.

Popped in for a coffee with my wife. The service and atmosphere was amazing. The two girls serving were a delight and their names are Julia and Stella. Plus the coffee was excellent.

My mum and son visited the restaurant on 6th July. Unfortunately, my mum took unwell and an ambulance had to be called. My son was extremely upset to see his grandma unwell but said the staff were absolutely excellent making my mum comfortable and supporting both him and my mum. They actually closed the restaurant whilst they waited for the ambulance and refused to take any money for the meal they had started eating. I want to say a massive thank you for the kindness shown to my mum and son, it really meant a lot. From what both my mum and son fed back, the staff were outstanding, fetching my mum cushions to make her comfortable and making cups of tea. You are all an absolute credit and so compassionate. Thank you so much.

We’ve been coming here every week for more than two years now so they must be doing something right! Great coffee, delicious sandwiches and home made cakes and friendly and efficient staff. Can particularly recommend the New Yorker sandwich, croque monsieur and the fudge brownies and carrot cake.
