Went to gave afternoon tea following a visit to the natural history museum. Bear in mind it isnt cheap you would expect more. The cutlery is stainless steel, the crockery is boring and the food was okay. The kids hot dogs were not hot and the jam sandwich was somewhat lacking. The scones do not come covered so get cold by the time you eat them. All in all not a great experience.

I love a good British high tea and don't often go for gimmicky places, so I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of food quality. The food was all surprisingly good, and such a fun presentation. My 5 year old was in heaven and his grandma equally impressed. They definitely cater to kids, all the waiters talked to my kid instead of adults when presenting dishes which was nice. Lots of fun experiments, so much food and so many sweets. It was a good idea to get one kids science high tea and some regular adult versions to have more variety (both versions have the planet shaped cake which is in so many photos). It was a little loud for us being seated by the espresso bar but the staff were nice and reseated us. If it's not crowded when you come and there are table options, sitting a little further from the espresso machine may be more pleasant.

An absolute highlight of our trip for both my 6.5 year old girls and myself! Such a fun way to do tea with kids in London. It was so interactive engaging and fun plus the food for adults was quite good! The scones were delicious. Atmosphere was lovely and the service was delightful (even when my daughter dropped her entire hot chocolate on the floor) Would highly recommend (just be prepared for a A LOT of sugar 😊)

This afternoon tea may be a little pricey, but it is definitely worth the cost. The food was lovely and the experience was delightful. All the little touches made this a wonderful way to spend an afternoon in London. It’s very close to the natural science museum so you could try this or the Jurassic themed tea as a wonderful complement to a visit there.

We visited as a family of eight to have the Science Afternoon Tea. We were very impressed that the tea was appropriate for children and adults and that the dairy-free child and vegan adults in our party were all catered for. The food was imaginative and delicious! We appreciated that the atmosphere was child-friendly but still 'fancy'. We particularly liked that all the 'sandwiches' came in a different format: one hot-dog, one roll, one traditional sandwich, and one quiche. Our waiter, Anamul, was excellent: he explained every detail of our teas clearly and was attentive to our needs, offering us extra food and drinks at appropriate intervals and offering us boxes and bags to take our leftover food home without us having to ask. He was lovely with the children in our party, who especially enjoyed counting down with him to the magical dry ice smoke effect moment. Our every need was catered to! The tea was on the pricey side, even for London: £39.50 for children and £59.50 for adults, and it was disappointing that there wasn't a vegan hot chocolate option available for the children's tea as there was for the regular children's tea. However, it was possible to request extra rounds of any of the foods at no extra cost and, overall, the price was worth it for a memorable afternoon tea that truly catered to all ages and tastes/dietary requirements. We'd come back for another special family occasion!

This was such a great experience from the friendly and welcoming service to how great the staff was with our little one. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a unique afternoon tea that is fun and engaging for kids. My 3 year old loved the fizzy lemonade experiment, mixing hot chocolate and the digging for fossils chocolate! Also very impressed with the diverse vegan, vegetarian and gluten free menu as we are vegetarian and my son also has a gluten allergy. They were very accommodating with any concerns or swaps that were needed on the menu. The jasmine tea was delicious. Sandwiches were better than expected.

If you're a fan of a theme, then head straight to the Kensington and Chelsea based The Ampersand Hotel for their award-winning Science Afternoon Tea. Is it kitschy? Yes. Is it campy? Yes. Is it bizarre? Yes. But... Is it fun? Absolutely. Great for those of all ages, this afternoon tea has the theme woven into each detail, from the dessert, to the presentation, and even the interactive elements. It also can cater to those with alternative diets, such as gluten free individuals. The food is not on the level of culinary perfection as other high-end afternoon teas in London. However, it is still very good. The interactivity is also a major draw, and make this a unique and worthwhile experience. For a fun brainy tea in a classy setting, this is a no-brainer.

The food was delicious, and I wish I could've actually enjoyed the Darjeeling tea more. However, we did not enjoy what should've been a lovely afternoon tea, seeing as everyone I knew had recommended the establishment. Not even thirty seconds after telling my friend we can relax, take our time and enjoy the delicious food; the server came over and asked us if we were finished and if we wanted anything "boxed up to go". Bear in mind that we had only just started the cream scones and had been there maybe 20 minutes. There was plenty of seating alongside other patrons scrolling on phones or chatting for far longer, and they weren't asked mid meal to leave when it would be very obvious to the experienced servers we certainly weren't anywhere near done! Taking the unspoken hint we left shortly after as my appetite was soured. That and when I asked for the Ladies I was told to go down the stairs where I slowly walked down with my CRUTCH having arrived and checked in a WHEELCHAIR to the cloak room ( I'm mobile for short distances) only to see an elevator I could've been directed to. I don't understand the issue as we were appropriately dressed, with no vulgarity or obnoxious behaviour. It's incredibly disappointing.

The best afternoon tea I have ever had! Fantastic service, food was exceptional. Refills on request, and a deliciously balanced meal. Often afternoon tea is stodgy and heavy and by the time you get to the cake you’re bloated and can’t face the sweet bites on offer. Here, the chefs have obviously paid attention to all aspects of this meal including the wonderfully themed aspects. These included pipettes to make your own macaroon filling, test tube lemonade and dry ice sorbet dessert. Each layer of the afternoon tea stand had a delicious balance of flavours and textures and the tea selection was also exceptional. Worth booking in advance and treating yourself.

We booked the science afternoon tea as a treat to celebrate two family birthdays and it surpassed all expectations. It really was a truly memorable experience as well as a meal; the science theme was woven in to each menu item and the children loved making their own hot chocolates and lemonade. The birthday boys even had an extra special birthday treat delivered at the end of the meal. The food all tasted absolutely delicious and the quality of ingredients was really good. The best thing for us though was the service - the staff members were so kind and helpful and made us feel at ease. They had noted our child's nut allergy from our booking and were already prepared, offering us all a nut free menu. When our daughter's food came it had a "nut free" sticker which I thought was a great touch and showed that communication about her allergy had continued to those preparing the food. Taking a child with a nut allergy out for a meal out can be a daunting experience but the staff at the Ampersand Hotel were brilliant and had such good allergy awareness that we didn't feel anxious at all. Definitely recommended for any special treat!

10/10 vegetarian afternoon tea. The whole experience was a delight, from the "fizzy lemonade" experiment to start off, to the chocolate dinosaur excavation to wrap things up. Each of the sandwiches was fresh and wonderfully flavorful. But my favorite part was the scones, perfectly warm and soft yet crumbly, as good scones ought to be. As an added bonus, the service was quite friendly, and offered extra sandwiches and tea refills throughout. Highly recommend!

Great service from staff, attentive and kind. The room was pretty crowded and small. Also a bit stuffy no windows open and seated all close together . We were in the drawing room. The jurassic one downstairs seemed to be a bit more spacious. The food was nice an unusual pastries. Kids sandwiches quite boring just jam and butter. Scones nice and fresh. The experiments kept kids busy and they fossil hunt. However the chocolates in the tin were white due to the heat which put the kids off eating it so it went in the bin. They should be stored better in this heat. Cost was quite high compared to others we have been to which include unlimited refills, this one only had one refill for sandwiches only. So not value for money. But was a treat for my sons birthday so was a one off.

The place was lovely and food was great. Although kids veg options wasn't that nice (the veg got hot sandwiches and what ever the other thing was) rest was actually nice. Scone was yummy. Adult food was really good. It was a lovely experience but I was really disappointed as I left. I paid for 2 kids science afternoon tea and only received one experiment kit. When I ask why there is one they waiters said that how it is they share. But later I notice others with 2 kids received 2 science kits. And again another family same 2kits. It has really put me off and wouldn't recommend going there as it seems like they treat the client differently. I left single out and my boys are 4 & 6 and they both notice how all the other kids got 2 separate kits. Service is everything no matter how amazing the place is. Wouldn't be going again. Paid so much and my 2boys had to share one science drink making kit. Awful!!!

What an absolute treat this was. It was probably twice the upper limit of what I’d usually spend on a meal, but for a one-time experience, it was worth it. You can’t beat this level of creative presentation. I’d call the food a solid 8-9/10 as well. As someone in the sciences for a career and who also likes creativity in food, I was in heaven. I recommended it to family who travels a lot. Thank you so much for giving the sciences a shout-out in your food! Service was flawless and friendly as well! This experience was an over-priced miss for our family. Maybe if it had been about half the price, I wouldn't feel as disappointed, but this cost the same amount as a multi-course sushi dinner at a very nice restaurant in mayfair the night before. The food was meh, but the biggest disappointment was the service. Our server clearly would have rather been anywhere else. He spoke as fast as he possibly could to get away from the table quickly and rarely came back to see how things were going. My kids were fine with the experience becuase of the amount of sugar ingested, but both my wife and I Agreed that this was the biggest waste of money we had while in London for 5 days.

Visited the Drawing Rooms for a Science-themed afternoon tea, which my science-mad children had really been looking forward to, but it was a massive disappointment. The food offered to the children was terrible: a horrible, soggy jam sandwich, a bland, tasteless rocket-shaped cheese straw, and a single (small) hot dog in a stale roll each. The sweet treats were so sickly that the children mostly took one bite and didn't bother with the rest. My 9-year-old was so disappointed with the whole thing he cried. The adult food is slightly better, although my wife makes better scones at home and the amounts of cream and jam provided for four scones is tiny. One tiny pot of tea each - no refill offered - and they want to charge an extra £15 for a small glass of champagne. This was topped off with mostly the same poor sweet treats as the kids, but with a macaroon each with a pipette of liquid to "squeeze" into the centre, although the macaroons were already so wet they had glued themselves to the plate without any additional adulteration. It's a real shame, because it's a really good idea, but the execution and quality is so poor it feels like the results of the losing team's efforts on a challenge on The Apprentice. I suspect Lord Sugar would have fired the lot if he'd been presented with this outcome. This would have been a "not really worth it" experience at half the price. For over £200 for a family of four, it's really shockingly bad value-for money.

The Science Afternoon Tea was an extraordinary and unique adventure! The food exceeded our expectations, which was a delightful surprise. Initially, we anticipated a great science-themed experience, and it certainly delivered on that front. Our kids, aged 8 - 10, thoroughly enjoyed it. The experience began with a fun "lab exercise" where they made their own lemonade, setting a fantastic tone for the afternoon. The warm chocolate with toppings was a hit, especially with the extra sugar kick. Next, we were presented with a "food tower" featuring a variety of savory bites, followed by four delicious scones, and topped off with beautifully designed desserts. Of course, there was also a selection of teas to enjoy. Overall, I highly recommend the Science Afternoon Tea for a memorable family experience.

This was definitely more style over substance. Took our kids after the museum, paid an extra £10 for a glass of fizz which was nice. The kids' lemonade was undrinkable, they left it. Adults' teas were lovely. The kids savoury food was awful (mini hot dog and jam sandwich) the adults' (salmon and cream chees blini and roast beef sandwich were nice, minced chicken in a bun was meh, the quiche was yuck..) The scones were nice, the sweet treats were well presented but were nothing special. The cake tasted like a longlife, packaged airline cake. The semifreddo sphere was tasty. My kids (5 and 8) enjoyed messing around with the science-y accoutrements more than the food or drink. It's a shame as the theatre of the food, lovely surroundings and great service was let down by the quality of food itself.

Science afternoon tea is a fun and different take - not cheap or really very science related but reasonable food. However this was all undermined by the restaurant adding 12.5% service charge to the bill. Yes, I could have refused this but it's pretty awkward to do that with the waiter standing right by your shoulder and family nearby. If they'd simply written 'service not included' i'd have still left a fair tip. But adding it without being asked is infuriating. We don't have the USA tip culture. Adding 12.5% in London without being asked is not on. Won't go back to this hotel as a result.

The concept is cool, but it's really just a few simple tweaks to the normal tea that feels a bit gimmicky looking back. If you really love getting afternoon tea, then you'll like it. Nothing but heavy carbs unfortunately -- starts to feel gross after a while. The kid's food was equally poor -- jelly sandwich as a savory item? Yes the food had some "planet" looking shapes, and the kids made a gross blue lemonade from ingredients in test tubes. But the "science" part felt little more than a marketing gimmick. The tea options were unique. They also offered some add-ons for a glass of champagne or alcohol-free options. The 70 euros per person on average was not worth it.

Mixed feelings is the only way I can describe the afternoon tea. The mixing drink experiment was fun but its tasted awful. Be careful not to mistake the carbonated soda for sugar! The gelatin blood orange jelly is a very strong taste and a little bitter. The actual buns and sandwiches were quite dry and something you could make at home i was expecting new and exciting flavours so I was disappointed. The puddings and cakes however were really yummy and they looked beautiful. The scones were a tad bit dry though but with the clotted cream and jam or passion fruit cream was perfectly fine to eat. The special effect dry ice was a lovely touch and made me feel special. They also gave me a box which was a find the fossil and that was fun and yummy choclate inside. We chose the last time slot 6 30pm and it was only us in there that evening so it was very quiet and felt like we hired the whole place out for ourselves. The tea we chose was delicious Jasmine Silver Needle, this you drink without milk. I drank JIng Earl Grey which you can drink with a drop of milk yum! We were served by a lovely girl called Wynta, who really did her best to give us such a special experience and took some pictures for us and also sang happy birthday with the manager to me while carrying in a lovely Happy Birthday Plate with a few fancy pieces of chocolate on it. There are some photo opportunites like on the stairs near the fancy lights or downstairs in the lobby near the toilets there is a quiet posh lounge and fancy chairs to take a few pics but apart from that there isnt much else. All in all was a nice experience but I think for the money you spend they could have improved the flavours of the sandwiches.

The Science Afternoon Tea was amazing! Cute projects meant for kids but fun for adults too. The food was excellent and my companions were so excited that gluten free menu was available and included scones. It was one of the top experiences of our trip

There aren’t many high class vegetarian English afternoon tea available so this is among the top of the list for vegetarians. Food is tasty and looks pretty but the cakes could be made less sweet. The cocktails are served with amazing visual effects mimicking chemistry experiments but all taste like syrup, so I would suggest to keep the visual effects and improve the taste of the cocktails.

Incredible shared moment with my boyfriend! We loved every part of that afternoon tea, it was our first time. I had the gluten free one and it was delish ! We could ask for a sandwich, scones and tea refill! 😍 (but you are quickly full😂) If you want to feel like a prince or princess, go there !

A return visit for us. Last year we had a brilliant children's dinosaur themed afternoon tea which was spectacular. This time, the generic science themed children's afternoon tea incorporated a few of the dinosaur elements e.g a dinosaur shaped jam sandwich, excavating through chocolate soil etc. along with some other space elements including a rocket stand. Overall it didn't really hang together as a theme as well as the previous year. The food itself was a mixed bag. Some nice enough elements (scones and hot chocolate were really good!) but dry and rather stale buns used for the hot dog and some phenomenally rich sweet options which the adults would have struggled with. The service was hit and miss. Jelly was on the afternoon tea stand but no spoons provided. A few spillages that we had to work hard to get help clearing up and were left with wet napkins on the table. There weren't enough brushes and test tubes for the 3 afternoon teas ordered. A really hot day and had to chase for some water for the table. Clear explanations of the food however and very polite staff overall who were happy to provide a box for a couple of left over scones. For the price you are paying for a bit of dry ice drama and some mixology making your own lemonade (which tasted pretty bad but was fun if you can look past the blue syringe which was really difficult to use) but the quality of the food itself and execution of the theme is a bit of a let down. It's flashy but not giving the best value for money - particularly if you are taking multiple children. The basic afternoon tea was fine- Earl Grey was beautiful and scones fab.

Not just any traditional English high tea. This is where when fun meets traditional; when art meets science. Mix your own experiment drink to start with and you continue to mix every bits and pieces to complete the set. Wonderful experience. Friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. Highly recommended!

This was our first time in London so we had to experience afternoon tea. My children love science so we made a reservation for the science themed afternoon tea after a visit to the Science museum. We were done at the science museum before our reservation so I called the Drawing Room and they were able to accommodate us an hour before our reservation time. The space is lovely and so was the staff. Our boys had the kids science afternoon tea with hot chocolate rather than tea. My husband and I had the adult afternoon tea and I added champagne to mine. It was an amazing experience and I highly recommend going.

A welcoming, neat setup to meet with friends with children. food is delicious, instagramable and comes with very generous potation. Location wise, it's perfect! easy access to Kensington highstreet and V&A museum and natural history museum.

It was a cute tea for children, but not everything tasted great. The scones were very hard. The science experiments weren't tasty. Not a fan of the tubes of passion fruit cream, nor the Petri dish of gelatinous substance.

My daughter and I went for science themed afternoon tea today. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Really fun food option for kids with little interactive elements. Food was very tasty and very filling (we took a doggy bag home), but extra savouries were offered to everyone. The only thing I struggled with were the really low seats against high tables, it made eating a little awkward....maybe I'm just short.

I wouldn’t recommend this highly overpriced afternoon tea. We were SO excited for this, coming from the US and splurging on Tea for 4 (which ended up almost $300). We loved our time in London and Scotland and this was a low for us. Yes the dinosaur idea was super cute which is why we booked and the hotel itself looked nice but the food and service were pretty awful. The roast beef and slimy salmon weren’t eaten by us but we tried. Lots of dessert is always a hit which is what we got. The mini sandwiches were so bad. The rest is just tons of sugary deserts with no sustenance. We were tucked away in the basement in a completely private room with a curtain which we were excited about at first but we were forgotten. It was so hot and uncomfortable. We were there over 2 full hours and never even got a water carafe refill. We left so thirsty and hungry which isn’t normal. When we first sat down I asked the server what a test tube full of colored things was and she said “I’ll tell you later” and never did. (Who says that?) Then when our tea platters were placed on the table, the waitress put not one but two of the plate legs directly into our drink cups and spilled our waters. I don’t even think she noticed she did it, she didn’t apologize, walked away and my daughter and my laps were covered in water and we went down to 2 drinking glasses for 4 of us. The server didn’t come back at all for over an hour so we were wet and miserable to say the least. The dinosaur part is cutesy but the staff is pretty miserable and the food taste itself is really not great besides the dessert. Hardly worth the cost. We had lovely genuine experiences elsewhere. I was super unimpressed and none of us enjoyed the food or experience.

We loved the science afternoon tea. It's interactive, quirky and really fun! The service was friendly and polite. I have to shave off 1 star as when the place got busier we had to wait really long for our bill and also not all food items were tasty. It was a bit hit and miss, some things were absolutely delicious and some were meh. Overall, however, excellent experience!

Genuinely surprised by this afternoon tea, both a fun experience and good food too. The interactive bits are really enjoyable and add some fun to the afternoon tea. The savoury bits were all delicious, with generously filled sandwiches. Scones and cakes were all great too. Throughout it the staff were attentive and helpful. Plus the tea was excellent. Highlight recommend this as a treat

We had afternoon tea (science theme) at The Ampersand and it was a great experience. My kids are 12 and 15 and still enjoyed all the themed aspects of the tea. Our favorite part was that the 2 gluten free members of our group enjoyed the exact same food (with a couple bread modifications) as everyone else. We didn’t feel like we were eating a different meal than our table mates. Also, the atmosphere was trendy and fun, felt sophisticated but not stuffy. We were very comfortable and the service was great. It was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon!

Had a great afternoon tea at the Ampersand. It was the perfect venue for my friend’s baby shower. She loves anything science related, and this was fantastic. It is probably the best, most creative, tastiest, freshest, memorable afternoon tea. The service was great, the staff explained everything properly, were very friendly and helpful, and were offering to bring out more food. Should we need some. Everything was delicious. From the cakes on the bottom layer to the scones with passionfruit jam in a tube, to the desserts on top that were so creative and colourful, but also tasted out of this world. In my opinion, this blows other afternoon tea spots out of the water.

Really loved it. The science afternoon tea is a gimmick, but it's a fun gimmick, and well worth a visit. There were a lot of children when we arrived, so I was a bit worried, but they were all well behaved and didn't bother our table:) The service was superb, and the food was delicious!

A wonderful meal for my husband's birthday. Our two children were very entertained with mixing their own lemonade, making their own hot chocolate, creating flavours for scones and digging for chocolate dinosaurs. My husband and I enjoyed the food too and we all loved the dry ice effect. The service was great, they brought out seconds and substituted items and at the end, was a lovely complimentary happy birthday platter. A beautiful memory for us all!

We went as a family for the science afternoon tea after seeing it on social media. It was a special treat for my daughters birthday. It looked very inviting. To be fair most of the food was nice. One or two cakes and two sandwiches were well below par. The service started off a little slow. Once the food and drink did arrive, we were left to our own devices for quite some time. The demo for the lemonade mixer starter experiment, was given in haste by the waitress. When my wife asked her to repeat one step, “it’s all on the card” was her curt reply! The food then arrived after a long wait. It was well explained by the waiter and well presented too. We were not told about the refills, if there were any, what they might be, or how many, until I asked an hour later. We were then told we could have one “course” refilled once. No problem. Then the manager came and said there was a mistake and we would have to be charged. After a heated objection, given the cost of the meal, she backed down and all was good. However from that point, the refills took over half an hour and we felt ignored. I had to go the front a couple of times to nudge them. Overall, the food was well presented, the service and attitude was terrible. I won’t be returning. Which is a shame. I won't say it ruined my daughters birthday celebrations, but it certainly left a bad taste for me. Which was a shame.

The science afternoon tea..I booked this yesterday as a treat for my kids , seen as it was in a highly touristic area I was expecting it to be quite basic with some cute experiments . The food was absolutely disgusting, stale dry and just awful . My kids liked the experiments but that was it . The only reason why I didn’t insist they take everything back was because I didn’t want to ruin my children’s day . Avoid … the food is horrible , the room needs some love ( the leather on our seats were all worn ) … spend your money on places that serve you edible food … the science experiments are underwhelming the only real hit was the dry ice . Disgusting and disappointing.

Thoroughly enjoyed your afternoon tea experience. Very good service, refills of tea and sandwiches/pastries. We ordered the vegetarian option which was great with a good variety of options. Lovely atmosphere. Only downfall were the sandwiches, the fillings were great but the bread wasn't up to standard. The science element was probably more for children but was fun either way. Definitely a great experience and very affordable compared to similar options in the area.

The service has always been great at the Mitre, however, I've been coming once every half-year, roughly, since 2018. They used to have many kid friendly options for their menu, but past 2021 the options were replaced with much larger meals that a child wouldn't want. This became an issue, and past early 2024 I stopped going to the Mitre because of this. Really unhappy with the menu change with this.

Great decor and, a very lively atmosphere. No booking just walk-ins. Card-only payments. The food tasted great and came fast however the portion was quite small for the price you pay. I did have to call over the waiters to order and pay rather than the usual come over to you but it wasn't a problem as we were in a bit of a hurry.
