Felt very welcomed on arrival, staff were lovely especially Anamul Hoque who served an waited on us, the food was amazing and good value for money. Our favourite part was making our own lemonade and watching the magic happen with the dried ice effect. Thankyou Anamul.

What a lovely combination of science and food. We came here for the science tea, after visiting the Science Museum, and it was such a perfect way to cap off our day of learning and fun. The food selection was great and the little nods to science were fun. My 7-year-old loved every moment, from experimenting with making lemonade all the way to digging for fossils. Highly recommend!

I recently visited the Ampersand Hotel for their Science Afternoon Tea with my six-year-old daughter. While the setting and atmosphere were very pleasant, and the science theme is great for entertaining children (which my daughter really enjoyed), the actual quality of the food was very disappointing – especially considering the £60 per adult price tag. The adult savoury selection was extremely poor. The only item I genuinely enjoyed was the salmon blini, which they kindly offered a second portion of. The roast brioche roll was overloaded with mayonnaise and the bread itself didn’t taste fresh. Similarly, the pesto chicken roll had far too much mayonnaise, making it really unpleasant to eat. The seasonal quiche was equally underwhelming — bland and not enjoyable at all. I usually never leave food behind at an afternoon tea, but in this case, all I managed to eat from the adult menu was the salmon blini (plus the extra one they offered) and one scone. That’s it. The desserts did not look appetising either, so I didn’t bother trying them. The tea was nice but served lukewarm rather than hot, which only added to the overall disappointment. Sadly, after the meal I also experienced an upset stomach, which left me even more regretful about the experience. The service itself was good and the staff were friendly, and my daughter enjoyed her children’s selection – but honestly, for £60 per adult, the food should be of a much higher standard. I visited here a few years ago and had a far better experience, so it’s very disheartening to see such a decline. Great for kids because of the science theme, but if you’re going for the food, I would not recommend it.

Recommended for afternoon tea, which is a fun experience for children. It has won an award for Best Serving Way, and the concept is a scientific experiment. The elements of the science experiment are: (1) Set for adults: Make lemonade by mixing syrup and other ingredients with a syringe or beaker, inject sauce into macarons with a dropper, create steam using dry ice, (2) Set for children: Excavate chocolate dinosaurs, use dry ice, and make your own hot chocolate. I was able to get refills for the sandwiches and tea on the bottom shelf, but I couldn't check the scones. The refill of black tea seemed like it was a second brew, so it was a bit disappointing. The staff was very friendly and took lots of photos for me, and since it was my daughter's birthday, she also gave me free Happy Birthday chocolates, which made me very happy.

Was such an amazing experience! I absolutely loved the atmosphere of the drawing room, it was bright, spacious, and the food. Since this was Science Afternoon Tea, there were some experiments (such as making your own lemonade) and some food was in a shape related to science (rocket, sphere, dinosaur). The tea selection was great, with interesting and unusual teas.

Booked the science themed afternoon tea and the food was really lovely. Four choices of menu including both vegan AND vegetarian which is vitally important as vegetarians are not vegans, it’s a separate diet choice. I can’t eat anything spicy and informed of that at point of booking and when asked about it once seated. One of the vegetarian brioche buns had a few dried chillies and it burnt my mouth. It was quickly replaced by one of the vegan sandwiches my daughter had as that was really nice. We got the savory complete refills and I was given 2 of the sundried tomato whirl sandwiches, so delicious! Unusual selection, four different savory pieces. The cakes were nice too and were science themed. The planet was ice cream in the centre. Very nice and unusual cranberry scones. My daughter said it was her best and tastiest afternoon tea ( we have eaten afternoon teas an the Athenaeum, Reuben’s at the palace, The Melody, 11 Cadogen Gardens, Durrants hotel, so many classy establishments!) We would definitely return as I had a voucher which meant it was only just over half price. Service was efficient, helpful and pleasant.

Excellent service, medium sized, well decorated room, lovely food. Averages around 60 per head but you get one set of refills. Certainly more tailored to kids but the adults tea was lovely. We visited The Ampersand Hotel for their Science Afternoon Tea as a group of 10, including 6 kids – so you can imagine the potential chaos! But from start to finish, the experience was absolutely wonderful. The staff were incredible – so attentive, patient, and always smiling. I’ve been to many afternoon teas, but the service here truly stands out as the best I’ve experienced. We had multiple dietary requirements, and they accommodated everything perfectly without any fuss. The food was fantastic – I had the vegan afternoon tea and especially loved the hot dog and quiche! The interactive science experiment element was such a fun touch, and the staff were so polite and engaging while demonstrating it for the kids. A special mention to the team for making our visit extra special – I had requested a small birthday surprise for three of the kids, and they went above and beyond by bringing out three plates with chocolates and candles for them. It was such a thoughtful touch, and the kids were absolutely thrilled! I highly recommend this afternoon tea – delicious food, a fun concept, and truly exceptional service. We will definitely be back!

We had the “Science afternoon tea “ at the drawing rooms. We suspected a tourist trap, but gave it a shot. A letdown in terms of food, absolutely not worth the price. Some fun gimmicks (dry ice smoke, mixing your own lemonade) delighted our kids at first, and the round planet cakes look special. But the looks, and location by the museums, is all you pay for. Dry, basic, not much taste. The kids tea had good cocoa, but I’d say the food selection is best for 3-6 year olds. Savories, scones and cakes were around airport cafeteria levels at best. No one in the family wanted to finish.

Lovely afternoon tea, staff are super friendly and they have a fully vegan option which isn't terrible (this is speaking from trying many vegan ones around). Staff offer more sandwiches if needed and top up the tea for free. The vegan hot dog was delicious. The desserts are good, but not mind blowing - I don't know if I'd go back specifically to eat it all again. The fun dry ice and science themed elements were very cute, the lemonade at the start didn't taste very lemony at all though 😂 Worth the £69 each? I think it's a bit overpriced but that's London for you... This is one of the better afternoon teas.

I love a good British high tea and don't often go for gimmicky places, so I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of food quality. The food was all surprisingly good, and such a fun presentation. My 5 year old was in heaven and his grandma equally impressed. They definitely cater to kids, all the waiters talked to my kid instead of adults when presenting dishes which was nice. Lots of fun experiments, so much food and so many sweets. It was a good idea to get one kids science high tea and some regular adult versions to have more variety (both versions have the planet shaped cake which is in so many photos). It was a little loud for us being seated by the espresso bar but the staff were nice and reseated us. If it's not crowded when you come and there are table options, sitting a little further from the espresso machine may be more pleasant.

We visited as a family of eight to have the Science Afternoon Tea. We were very impressed that the tea was appropriate for children and adults and that the dairy-free child and vegan adults in our party were all catered for. The food was imaginative and delicious! We appreciated that the atmosphere was child-friendly but still 'fancy'. We particularly liked that all the 'sandwiches' came in a different format: one hot-dog, one roll, one traditional sandwich, and one quiche. Our waiter, Anamul, was excellent: he explained every detail of our teas clearly and was attentive to our needs, offering us extra food and drinks at appropriate intervals and offering us boxes and bags to take our leftover food home without us having to ask. He was lovely with the children in our party, who especially enjoyed counting down with him to the magical dry ice smoke effect moment. Our every need was catered to! The tea was on the pricey side, even for London: £39.50 for children and £59.50 for adults, and it was disappointing that there wasn't a vegan hot chocolate option available for the children's tea as there was for the regular children's tea. However, it was possible to request extra rounds of any of the foods at no extra cost and, overall, the price was worth it for a memorable afternoon tea that truly catered to all ages and tastes/dietary requirements. We'd come back for another special family occasion!

If you're a fan of a theme, then head straight to the Kensington and Chelsea based The Ampersand Hotel for their award-winning Science Afternoon Tea. Is it kitschy? Yes. Is it campy? Yes. Is it bizarre? Yes. But... Is it fun? Absolutely. Great for those of all ages, this afternoon tea has the theme woven into each detail, from the dessert, to the presentation, and even the interactive elements. It also can cater to those with alternative diets, such as gluten free individuals. The food is not on the level of culinary perfection as other high-end afternoon teas in London. However, it is still very good. The interactivity is also a major draw, and make this a unique and worthwhile experience. For a fun brainy tea in a classy setting, this is a no-brainer.

The food was delicious, and I wish I could've actually enjoyed the Darjeeling tea more. However, we did not enjoy what should've been a lovely afternoon tea, seeing as everyone I knew had recommended the establishment. Not even thirty seconds after telling my friend we can relax, take our time and enjoy the delicious food; the server came over and asked us if we were finished and if we wanted anything "boxed up to go". Bear in mind that we had only just started the cream scones and had been there maybe 20 minutes. There was plenty of seating alongside other patrons scrolling on phones or chatting for far longer, and they weren't asked mid meal to leave when it would be very obvious to the experienced servers we certainly weren't anywhere near done! Taking the unspoken hint we left shortly after as my appetite was soured. That and when I asked for the Ladies I was told to go down the stairs where I slowly walked down with my CRUTCH having arrived and checked in a WHEELCHAIR to the cloak room ( I'm mobile for short distances) only to see an elevator I could've been directed to. I don't understand the issue as we were appropriately dressed, with no vulgarity or obnoxious behaviour. It's incredibly disappointing.

We booked the science afternoon tea as a treat to celebrate two family birthdays and it surpassed all expectations. It really was a truly memorable experience as well as a meal; the science theme was woven in to each menu item and the children loved making their own hot chocolates and lemonade. The birthday boys even had an extra special birthday treat delivered at the end of the meal. The food all tasted absolutely delicious and the quality of ingredients was really good. The best thing for us though was the service - the staff members were so kind and helpful and made us feel at ease. They had noted our child's nut allergy from our booking and were already prepared, offering us all a nut free menu. When our daughter's food came it had a "nut free" sticker which I thought was a great touch and showed that communication about her allergy had continued to those preparing the food. Taking a child with a nut allergy out for a meal out can be a daunting experience but the staff at the Ampersand Hotel were brilliant and had such good allergy awareness that we didn't feel anxious at all. Definitely recommended for any special treat!

The experiments kept kids busy and they fossil hunt. However the chocolates in the tin were white due to the heat which put the kids off eating it so it went in the bin. They should be stored better in this heat. Cost was quite high compared to others we have been to which include unlimited refills, this one only had one refill for sandwiches only. The place was lovely and food was great. Although kids veg options wasn't that nice (the veg got hot sandwiches and what ever the other thing was) rest was actually nice. Scone was yummy. Adult food was really good. It was a lovely experience but I was really disappointed as I left. I paid for 2 kids science afternoon tea and only received one experiment kit. When I ask why there is one they waiters said that how it is they share. But later I notice others with 2 kids received 2 science kits. And again another family same 2kits. It has really put me off and wouldn't recommend going there as it seems like they treat the client differently. I left single out and my boys are 4 & 6 and they both notice how all the other kids got 2 separate kits. Service is everything no matter how amazing the place is. Wouldn't be going again. Paid so much and my 2boys had to share one science drink making kit. Awful!!!

Mind-blowing afternoon tea with a science twist to celebrate a birthday with family and friends. Everyone was delighted with the experience. The place is so beautiful, the service extraordinary and the food just delicious to the highest level. Plus they cater for everyone! We had vegans, vegetarians and gluten free and every single sandwich, quiche, cake and scone was just so good (regardless of the dietary). They also had a lovely detail with the birthday girl at the end. She had the greatest time, as did all the rest of us too. I can't recommend this place enough. The greatest afternoon tea, and a great experience. We will certainly visit again.

Best birthday treat ever! Food was exquisite, service 11/10. Never felt rushed to finish the meal, you can request refills of any item from the stand, might be pricey but it really is worth it! There is real fun and magic element to it and children will enjoy it for sure. Staff ever so friendly, have set up little birthday treat with a candle which I thought was such a nice gesture, truly wonderful 😍 thank you!

This experience was an over-priced miss for our family. Maybe if it had been about half the price, I wouldn't feel as disappointed, but this cost the same amount as a multi-course sushi dinner at a very nice restaurant in mayfair the night before. The food was meh, but the biggest disappointment was the service. Our server clearly would have rather been anywhere else. He spoke as fast as he possibly could to get away from the table quickly and rarely came back to see how things were going. My kids were fine with the experience becuase of the amount of sugar ingested, but both my wife and I Agreed that this was the biggest waste of money we had while in London for 5 days.

Visited the Drawing Rooms for a Science-themed afternoon tea, which my science-mad children had really been looking forward to, but it was a massive disappointment. The food offered to the children was terrible: a horrible, soggy jam sandwich, a bland, tasteless rocket-shaped cheese straw, and a single (small) hot dog in a stale roll each. The sweet treats were so sickly that the children mostly took one bite and didn't bother with the rest. My 9-year-old was so disappointed with the whole thing he cried. The adult food is slightly better, although my wife makes better scones at home and the amounts of cream and jam provided for four scones is tiny. One tiny pot of tea each - no refill offered - and they want to charge an extra £15 for a small glass of champagne. This was topped off with mostly the same poor sweet treats as the kids, but with a macaroon each with a pipette of liquid to "squeeze" into the centre, although the macaroons were already so wet they had glued themselves to the plate without any additional adulteration. It's a real shame, because it's a really good idea, but the execution and quality is so poor it feels like the results of the losing team's efforts on a challenge on The Apprentice. I suspect Lord Sugar would have fired the lot if he'd been presented with this outcome. This would have been a "not really worth it" experience at half the price. For over £200 for a family of four, it's really shockingly bad value-for money.

There's not much "science" behind this afternoon tea, but the ambiance, service, food and tea more than make up for it. This was a great experience for me and the kids. We enjoyed all of the sweet and savory treats. From the moment we were greeted at the entrance to the hotel to the time we paid our bill, every staff member made the experience welcoming and unique. We were treated as special guests. Highly recommend this tea experience for families.

The Science Afternoon Tea was an extraordinary and unique adventure! The food exceeded our expectations, which was a delightful surprise. Initially, we anticipated a great science-themed experience, and it certainly delivered on that front. Our kids, aged 8 - 10, thoroughly enjoyed it. The experience began with a fun "lab exercise" where they made their own lemonade, setting a fantastic tone for the afternoon. The warm chocolate with toppings was a hit, especially with the extra sugar kick. Next, we were presented with a "food tower" featuring a variety of savory bites, followed by four delicious scones, and topped off with beautifully designed desserts. Of course, there was also a selection of teas to enjoy. Overall, I highly recommend the Science Afternoon Tea for a memorable family experience.

The ambience and the service alone was worth this experience. If you enjoy tea and an afternoon snack of small sandwiches and nicely done deserts this is the place to be. It is on pricey side but an experience to have at least once. We had a lovely server named Maria M. She gave great explanations and guidance on which teas to chose from and went above and beyond with her service. She is what made it a 5 star experience.

This was definitely more style over substance. Took our kids after the museum, paid an extra £10 for a glass of fizz which was nice. The kids' lemonade was undrinkable, they left it. Adults' teas were lovely. The kids savoury food was awful (mini hot dog and jam sandwich) the adults' (salmon and cream chees blini and roast beef sandwich were nice, minced chicken in a bun was meh, the quiche was yuck..) The scones were nice, the sweet treats were well presented but were nothing special. The cake tasted like a longlife, packaged airline cake. The semifreddo sphere was tasty. My kids (5 and 8) enjoyed messing around with the science-y accoutrements more than the food or drink. It's a shame as the theatre of the food, lovely surroundings and great service was let down by the quality of food itself.

Science afternoon tea is a fun and different take - not cheap or really very science related but reasonable food. However this was all undermined by the restaurant adding 12.5% service charge to the bill. Yes, I could have refused this but it's pretty awkward to do that with the waiter standing right by your shoulder and family nearby. If they'd simply written 'service not included' i'd have still left a fair tip. But adding it without being asked is infuriating. We don't have the USA tip culture. Adding 12.5% in London without being asked is not on. Won't go back to this hotel as a result.

We had the science afternoon tea. The concept, food and staff were all great. However, if you have got lactose and gluten intolerance, then I am afraid the options are quite limited and not very good at all. The experience felt more tailored for kids than for adults.

We had such a wonderful time here! You cab soend the day walking through the museums in South Kensington and then stop here for afternoon tea. The whole experience was so much fun and elegant. There are standard, vegan, and even children's options to enjoy. Their selection of teas are delicious and you can get refills on the snacks if you want, though it is a large portion per person. The customer service was top tier and everyone was patient and friendly.

The concept is cool, but it's really just a few simple tweaks to the normal tea that feels a bit gimmicky looking back. If you really love getting afternoon tea, then you'll like it. Nothing but heavy carbs unfortunately -- starts to feel gross after a while. The kid's food was equally poor -- jelly sandwich as a savory item? Yes the food had some "planet" looking shapes, and the kids made a gross blue lemonade from ingredients in test tubes. But the "science" part felt little more than a marketing gimmick. The tea options were unique. They also offered some add-ons for a glass of champagne or alcohol-free options. The 70 euros per person on average was not worth it.

We were 2 adults and 1 child and the booking was last minute as the hotel had a cancellation the day before. This was a wonderful experience - the food was amazing and we had fun with the little experiments. My child is quite fussy so we only order 2 x adult afternoon teas and the staff were absolutely fine with this. It’s pricey but as a one off experience for our day trip to London it was memorable and one of the best afternoon teas I’ve ever had. We also had a little box to take home what we couldn’t at. Definitely recommend for a special treat.

Mixed feelings is the only way I can describe the afternoon tea. The mixing drink experiment was fun but its tasted awful. Be careful not to mistake the carbonated soda for sugar! The gelatin blood orange jelly is a very strong taste and a little bitter. The actual buns and sandwiches were quite dry and something you could make at home i was expecting new and exciting flavours so I was disappointed. The puddings and cakes however were really yummy and they looked beautiful. The scones were a tad bit dry though but with the clotted cream and jam or passion fruit cream was perfectly fine to eat. The special effect dry ice was a lovely touch and made me feel special. They also gave me a box which was a find the fossil and that was fun and yummy choclate inside. We chose the last time slot 6 30pm and it was only us in there that evening so it was very quiet and felt like we hired the whole place out for ourselves. The tea we chose was delicious Jasmine Silver Needle, this you drink without milk. I drank JIng Earl Grey which you can drink with a drop of milk yum! We were served by a lovely girl called Wynta, who really did her best to give us such a special experience and took some pictures for us and also sang happy birthday with the manager to me while carrying in a lovely Happy Birthday Plate with a few fancy pieces of chocolate on it. There are some photo opportunites like on the stairs near the fancy lights or downstairs in the lobby near the toilets there is a quiet posh lounge and fancy chairs to take a few pics but apart from that there isnt much else. All in all was a nice experience but I think for the money you spend they could have improved the flavours of the sandwiches.

There aren’t many high class vegetarian English afternoon tea available so this is among the top of the list for vegetarians. Food is tasty and looks pretty but the cakes could be made less sweet. The cocktails are served with amazing visual effects mimicking chemistry experiments but all taste like syrup, so I would suggest to keep the visual effects and improve the taste of the cocktails.

I cannot believe how poor the customer service this place has. It’s either manager being racist or staff being untrained… yet it felt like my order was deliberately made harder, even when I was polite after there was mistake of the staff which is giving me wrong menu, manager made this like it’s my problem and was not making any kind of solution, I felt extremely unwelcome and it is a very big shame. I was with my boyfriend and his order was placed to have the chicken Kiev which they seemed to have at the time but afterwards when the staff or manager approached me they said it was all out. This is when I felt I was being discriminated against. Very poor we go regularly needs improvement.

The falafel were delicious. The waiter with glasses and a beard was very kind and welcoming. We went in on a Monday without knowing about the get 3 get 2 discount on some products and ordered 2 dishes. The waiter was honest and brought us the third one for free.
