I bought my daughter here as a treat for the science afternoon tea after a visit to the Science Museum. It really made her day and not just because she got to chug sprinkles like a drink! The food is well designed and the science elements were really clever. The hotel is lovely and the staff were all great - very attentive, enthusiastic and brilliant with my daughter. It is expensive but as a treat it is definitely worth it!

Best birthday treat ever! Food was exquisite, service 11/10. Never felt rushed to finish the meal, you can request refills of any item from the stand, might be pricey but it really is worth it! There is real fun and magic element to it and children will enjoy it for sure. Staff ever so friendly, have set up little birthday treat with a candle which I thought was such a nice gesture, truly wonderful 😍 thank you!

This experience was an over-priced miss for our family. Maybe if it had been about half the price, I wouldn't feel as disappointed, but this cost the same amount as a multi-course sushi dinner at a very nice restaurant in mayfair the night before. The food was meh, but the biggest disappointment was the service. Our server clearly would have rather been anywhere else. He spoke as fast as he possibly could to get away from the table quickly and rarely came back to see how things were going. My kids were fine with the experience becuase of the amount of sugar ingested, but both my wife and I Agreed that this was the biggest waste of money we had while in London for 5 days.

Visited the Drawing Rooms for a Science-themed afternoon tea, which my science-mad children had really been looking forward to, but it was a massive disappointment. The food offered to the children was terrible: a horrible, soggy jam sandwich, a bland, tasteless rocket-shaped cheese straw, and a single (small) hot dog in a stale roll each. The sweet treats were so sickly that the children mostly took one bite and didn't bother with the rest. My 9-year-old was so disappointed with the whole thing he cried. The adult food is slightly better, although my wife makes better scones at home and the amounts of cream and jam provided for four scones is tiny. One tiny pot of tea each - no refill offered - and they want to charge an extra £15 for a small glass of champagne. This was topped off with mostly the same poor sweet treats as the kids, but with a macaroon each with a pipette of liquid to "squeeze" into the centre, although the macaroons were already so wet they had glued themselves to the plate without any additional adulteration. It's a real shame, because it's a really good idea, but the execution and quality is so poor it feels like the results of the losing team's efforts on a challenge on The Apprentice. I suspect Lord Sugar would have fired the lot if he'd been presented with this outcome. This would have been a "not really worth it" experience at half the price. For over £200 for a family of four, it's really shockingly bad value-for money.

There's not much "science" behind this afternoon tea, but the ambiance, service, food and tea more than make up for it. This was a great experience for me and the kids. We enjoyed all of the sweet and savory treats. From the moment we were greeted at the entrance to the hotel to the time we paid our bill, every staff member made the experience welcoming and unique. We were treated as special guests. Highly recommend this tea experience for families.

The Science Afternoon Tea was an extraordinary and unique adventure! The food exceeded our expectations, which was a delightful surprise. Initially, we anticipated a great science-themed experience, and it certainly delivered on that front. Our kids, aged 8 - 10, thoroughly enjoyed it. The experience began with a fun "lab exercise" where they made their own lemonade, setting a fantastic tone for the afternoon. The warm chocolate with toppings was a hit, especially with the extra sugar kick. Next, we were presented with a "food tower" featuring a variety of savory bites, followed by four delicious scones, and topped off with beautifully designed desserts. Of course, there was also a selection of teas to enjoy. Overall, I highly recommend the Science Afternoon Tea for a memorable family experience.

The ambience and the service alone was worth this experience. If you enjoy tea and an afternoon snack of small sandwiches and nicely done deserts this is the place to be. It is on pricey side but an experience to have at least once. We had a lovely server named Maria M. She gave great explanations and guidance on which teas to chose from and went above and beyond with her service. She is what made it a 5 star experience.

This was definitely more style over substance. Took our kids after the museum, paid an extra £10 for a glass of fizz which was nice. The kids' lemonade was undrinkable, they left it. Adults' teas were lovely. The kids savoury food was awful (mini hot dog and jam sandwich) the adults' (salmon and cream chees blini and roast beef sandwich were nice, minced chicken in a bun was meh, the quiche was yuck..) The scones were nice, the sweet treats were well presented but were nothing special. The cake tasted like a longlife, packaged airline cake. The semifreddo sphere was tasty. My kids (5 and 8) enjoyed messing around with the science-y accoutrements more than the food or drink. It's a shame as the theatre of the food, lovely surroundings and great service was let down by the quality of food itself.

Science afternoon tea is a fun and different take - not cheap or really very science related but reasonable food. However this was all undermined by the restaurant adding 12.5% service charge to the bill. Yes, I could have refused this but it's pretty awkward to do that with the waiter standing right by your shoulder and family nearby. If they'd simply written 'service not included' i'd have still left a fair tip. But adding it without being asked is infuriating. We don't have the USA tip culture. Adding 12.5% in London without being asked is not on. Won't go back to this hotel as a result.

The concept is cool, but it's really just a few simple tweaks to the normal tea that feels a bit gimmicky looking back. If you really love getting afternoon tea, then you'll like it. Nothing but heavy carbs unfortunately -- starts to feel gross after a while. The kid's food was equally poor -- jelly sandwich as a savory item? Yes the food had some "planet" looking shapes, and the kids made a gross blue lemonade from ingredients in test tubes. But the "science" part felt little more than a marketing gimmick. The tea options were unique. They also offered some add-ons for a glass of champagne or alcohol-free options. The 70 euros per person on average was not worth it.

Mixed feelings is the only way I can describe the afternoon tea. The mixing drink experiment was fun but its tasted awful. Be careful not to mistake the carbonated soda for sugar! The gelatin blood orange jelly is a very strong taste and a little bitter. The actual buns and sandwiches were quite dry and something you could make at home i was expecting new and exciting flavours so I was disappointed. The puddings and cakes however were really yummy and they looked beautiful. The scones were a tad bit dry though but with the clotted cream and jam or passion fruit cream was perfectly fine to eat. The special effect dry ice was a lovely touch and made me feel special. They also gave me a box which was a find the fossil and that was fun and yummy choclate inside. We chose the last time slot 6 30pm and it was only us in there that evening so it was very quiet and felt like we hired the whole place out for ourselves. The tea we chose was delicious Jasmine Silver Needle, this you drink without milk. I drank JIng Earl Grey which you can drink with a drop of milk yum! We were served by a lovely girl called Wynta, who really did her best to give us such a special experience and took some pictures for us and also sang happy birthday with the manager to me while carrying in a lovely Happy Birthday Plate with a few fancy pieces of chocolate on it. There are some photo opportunites like on the stairs near the fancy lights or downstairs in the lobby near the toilets there is a quiet posh lounge and fancy chairs to take a few pics but apart from that there isnt much else. All in all was a nice experience but I think for the money you spend they could have improved the flavours of the sandwiches.

A return visit for us. Last year we had a brilliant children's dinosaur themed afternoon tea which was spectacular. This time, the generic science themed children's afternoon tea incorporated a few of the dinosaur elements e.g a dinosaur shaped jam sandwich, excavating through chocolate soil etc. along with some other space elements including a rocket stand. Overall it didn't really hang together as a theme as well as the previous year. The food itself was a mixed bag. Some nice enough elements (scones and hot chocolate were really good!) but dry and rather stale buns used for the hot dog and some phenomenally rich sweet options which the adults would have struggled with. The service was hit and miss. Jelly was on the afternoon tea stand but no spoons provided. A few spillages that we had to work hard to get help clearing up and were left with wet napkins on the table. There weren't enough brushes and test tubes for the 3 afternoon teas ordered. A really hot day and had to chase for some water for the table. Clear explanations of the food however and very polite staff overall who were happy to provide a box for a couple of left over scones. For the price you are paying for a bit of dry ice drama and some mixology making your own lemonade (which tasted pretty bad but was fun if you can look past the blue syringe which was really difficult to use) but the quality of the food itself and execution of the theme is a bit of a let down. It's flashy but not giving the best value for money - particularly if you are taking multiple children. The basic afternoon tea was fine- Earl Grey was beautiful and scones fab.

I wouldn’t recommend this highly overpriced afternoon tea. We were SO excited for this, coming from the US and splurging on Tea for 4 (which ended up almost $300). We loved our time in London and Scotland and this was a low for us. Yes the dinosaur idea was super cute which is why we booked and the hotel itself looked nice but the food and service were pretty awful. The roast beef and slimy salmon weren’t eaten by us but we tried. Lots of dessert is always a hit which is what we got. The mini sandwiches were so bad. The rest is just tons of sugary deserts with no sustenance. We were tucked away in the basement in a completely private room with a curtain which we were excited about at first but we were forgotten. It was so hot and uncomfortable. We were there over 2 full hours and never even got a water carafe refill. We left so thirsty and hungry which isn’t normal. When we first sat down I asked the server what a test tube full of colored things was and she said “I’ll tell you later” and never did. (Who says that?) Then when our tea platters were placed on the table, the waitress put not one but two of the plate legs directly into our drink cups and spilled our waters. I don’t even think she noticed she did it, she didn’t apologize, walked away and my daughter and my laps were covered in water and we went down to 2 drinking glasses for 4 of us. The server didn’t come back at all for over an hour so we were wet and miserable to say the least. The dinosaur part is cutesy but the staff is pretty miserable and the food taste itself is really not great besides the dessert. Hardly worth the cost. We had lovely genuine experiences elsewhere. I was super unimpressed and none of us enjoyed the food or experience.

We went as a family for the science afternoon tea after seeing it on social media. It was a special treat for my daughters birthday. It looked very inviting. To be fair most of the food was nice. One or two cakes and two sandwiches were well below par. The service started off a little slow. Once the food and drink did arrive, we were left to our own devices for quite some time. The demo for the lemonade mixer starter experiment, was given in haste by the waitress. When my wife asked her to repeat one step, “it’s all on the card” was her curt reply! The food then arrived after a long wait. It was well explained by the waiter and well presented too. We were not told about the refills, if there were any, what they might be, or how many, until I asked an hour later. We were then told we could have one “course” refilled once. No problem. Then the manager came and said there was a mistake and we would have to be charged. After a heated objection, given the cost of the meal, she backed down and all was good. However from that point, the refills took over half an hour and we felt ignored. I had to go the front a couple of times to nudge them. Overall, the food was well presented, the service and attitude was terrible. I won’t be returning. Which is a shame. I won't say it ruined my daughters birthday celebrations, but it certainly left a bad taste for me. Which was a shame.

The first afternoon tea I went to that I enjoyed all three layers of food. Usually on most places at least one of them is a bit off but here they nailed it all! Staff was always smiling and always friendly. Everything was delicious and on board with the theme

First time visiting London and first time having afternoon tea since it is a british thing. The staff were accomodating and helpful, the place looked fancy but not that big so it got packed up real quick after the opening hours I suggest reserving a table. Food was okay, nothing special. Tea was nice. Experience wise, kids loved it. It was a fun mealtime and experience especially after going to science and national history museum.

I took my children, a cousin and a school friend to the Drawing Room for their first ever afternoon tea. I believe that for the rest of their lives they will remember the Science and Jurassic afternoon tea as the gold standard afternoon tea. It was amazing. On arrival, I was informed that usually the Drawing Room does not do the Jurassic afternoon tea, only the science one. I had managed to do the booking wrong. However, the staff kindly organised one for us anyway. It made my sons day. Everything was fantastic, from making your own drinks, excavating your own dinosaur to the volcano. The venue is calm and peaceful. As can be expected, it is visited by a lof of familles and I did not hear a single child throw a tantrum, such is the athmosphere. The decoration is has a cheerful theme and is beautifully made. The staff is attentive, professional and cheerful. They have the perfect level of being efficient and still taking the time to chat to the guests. I highly recommend this experience.

Tried to have afternoon tea with a friend but they had nothing available at 5:30 given that it said that they close at 8. We had a very overpriced cup of tea and that’s it

Amazing doesn't even cover it! Five stars only is too small of a review to leave for this location. I attended on the 14th of January, for a Jurassic afternoon tea with my mother. Firstly I just have to give a massive thank you to Julien, the manager, and Kyra, my server. Both were kind and gracious, Julien in communicating with me about dietary requirements and requests and Kyra was the most attentive, polite, friendly and courteous server I've ever experienced anywhere. The décor of the tea room was beautiful, so artsy, but so simple, and very much atmospheric. The food... Wow. Just wow. The gluten free and vegetarian afternoon tea I was served was just amazing. Some of the best food I have ever eaten. So beautifully constructed, flavours balanced perfectly, and all just so delicious. The grilled leek tartlets and black bean/tomato tapenade sandwiches I ate were sublime... It truly all was but those two items were my favourite. Mum had a regular afternoon tea and she absolutely adored every single item she had... Especially the lemon chicken mayo brioche rolls! What really surprised us was that we could have refills on any savouries we had been provided, and for £49.50 each it makes it way above value for money! Naturally, we both went home with something. Mum took her puddings home and from what I've heard, had a wonderful evening with my Dad sharing them with a cup of tea. The tea menu (whilst it's in my head) was beautifully detailed and explanatory and Kyra also explained each tea in vivid detail, and kindly provided some recommendations. The tea was also refillable, and we were informed if we wanted to try a different blend than what we had ordered, we could do so. I think it's safe to say we both felt valued, well looked after, and almost as though we were treated like royalty. I'll be recommending The Ampersand to all and sundry, it really is a truly spectacular establishment.

This was such a fun idea! Very relaxing atmosphere with impeccable service! Coffee was delicious and the the cute drinks they taught us to make were yummy too. We got the vegan tea service and it was very adorable! They had very yummy treats and a few savory treats. The Hot Dogs tasted a little rubbery but not terrible. Would definitely recommend!

From start to finish, the staff were very hospitable and accommodating. We had a voucher and they were kind enough to extend this for us. Despite running significantly late, we were assured that our table will be held. We were greeted by Daurin who was particularly warm, professional and friendly. The food and tea selection were all of great standard and we were pleasantly surprised to be asked whether we'd like more of anything. Overall an extremely pleasant day, great food but most importantly, excellent hospitality.

The science afternoon tea was SO much fun!! Not only do you get tiers of amazing tasting sandwiches, scones, and cakes, but you also get to complete little food science experiments whilst you wait (brushing sugar off chocolates like an archaeologist and making your own fizzy drinks in beakers)! The cakes are perfectly themed to science (I particularly loved the planet dessert which tastes incredible!) Staff are very friendly and attentive too, and the tea rooms are very comfortable and modern. As a scientist and an avid afternoon tea lover, I was very excited by this place. Also, having their gluten free afternoon tea was an added bonus. I would 100% recommend to any other people who require gluten free.

This was a business meeting at the lobby of the hotel and was supposed to be over tea/ coffee. Had a meeting with my overseas partner for just over an hour. Guess what? No staff came over asking for service nor bothered. We were simply furious over this, but the importance of our meeting and discussion took precedence so we couldn't care less. This is a well known and an established brand... and I wonder how they could go wrong ???

We visited The Drawing Rooms at The Ampersand Hotel for an amazing and highly memorable afternoon tea experience for three adults and two children. Being located 5minute walk from both the Science and Natural History Museums the hotel was perfectly located for lunch on a day full of learning for our two kids. The hotel is not too close to be mobbed by the hoards of tourists but still within easy walking distance. The hotel is smart, clean, has all the facilities you would expect. The reception is welcoming, dining room beautiful decorated, well laid out, light and airy. Toilets were cleaned regularly and in impeccably presented. The hotel does three adult afternoon tea options: standard, vegetarian and vegan and two children’s very special afternoon teas: science themed or history themed each tailored to go with a the Science and Natural History Museum experience. We opted for the children’s science afternoon teas as they love experimenting. The science started strait away as gestures and mini mixing flasks were brought to our table and the kids were shown how to mix their own lemonade drinks. The afternoon tea comprised the usual afternoon tea format of sandwiches / scones / cakes but all with a surprise, fun element for the children. The adult food was great quality, really delicious, good portion size and we were encouraged to ask for extras and refills all free of charge. The staff were all extremely attentive, knowledgeable and friendly, patient with the children and happy to assist in any way possible. This really was an exceptional experience that we and the children will remember. We would HIGHLY recommend this experience and will be coming back to do the History afternoon tea some time soon!
