The Dragon King in North Hertfordshire

Sadly very disappointed - went for my husbands birthday 🎂 Sunday at 1pm - Very poor selection of dishes (Desserts even worse) - only warm too - maybe let us sit down first before asking for drinks ☹️ NO way worth £13.90 each - definitely not return!!

Upon arrival we were greeted with a nice welcome they sat us down took drink orders and told us to help ourselves to food so just had a look around the decor was lnt a pretty sight it was very quiet this was around 7.30 on a Friday night so I had my suspicions about the place but I'd thought I'd try it for the first time and went and got our food and my god I had 1 plate and had to leave I couldn't even finish it the food/meat was obviously microwaved you can tell, was rubbery and not even cooked properly the chicken was pink in the chicken curry which put me off it was vile so be aware !! The gents toilets were flooded and took 3 members of staff to clean them but it wasn't going anywhere I wasn't even allowed to use an alternative toilet I honestly felt sick such a let down looking at the reviews already how this place is still open I'll never know this place needs checking by trading standards before someone gets seriously ill !! Over priced for whats on offer, I love a good Chinese and been to some good all you can eat restaurants but this has to be by far the worst I have ever had/tried, And that's saying something !!

After a long day in London (after driving back from france) we needed something special for our evening meal. Google to the rescue and we found ourselves here, really great food all super tasty and not expensive. Staff on the ball with collection of empty plates etc and they have a great selection of deserts too. Great experience.

Awful quality food but good selection. The meat was chewy and poor cuts of meat. Some food choices seem to have been reheated from lunchtime. The prices quoted for this kind of quality is shocking. One star given purely for the restaurant decor!

advertise free meal for birthday showed child's birth certificate and they said can't accept it as not proof its hers. Who carries someone else's kids birth certificate with them. Ridiculous. The child's birthday was a 13 year old and they made us pay for an adult meal for her. Had to pay upfront and they ask for a tip which is disgusting as they havent even served u. Food was nowhere near up to the standard it used to be. Cold and not cooked properly. Customer service is vile they are exceptionally rude. The second u put ur fork down they take ur plate from under u even if u still swallowing ur food. If want more drinks have to pay in the middle of ur meal which is crap as have to stop and let ur food go even colder. I'm not surprised there was hardly anyone in there and will never return again. Visited to try the buffet one afternoon. The staff were friendly and the range was large and varied. However, the quality left a bit to be desired with watery sauces and some tough chewy meat. Had heard good things about this restaurant so we may have caught them on a bad day.

The food was excellent and service was good and they were very helpful and nice and polite to me and my wife would definitely go again

I have had better frozen Chinese food. The ribs were tough, the mussels were tough and dry, you could play find the filling with the spring rolls and most items I found bland.

Not a great selection of food, most children didn't eat anything and they didn't like the taste of the food and the selection was shocking, looked like the food has been sat for a long time and instead of putting new out just kept putting new on top of old food. some food tasted funny especially the duck which sorry looked like Tuna. sauces had developed thick skin, crispy seaweed was so salty. family members ended up being ill the following day and this was the last thing they ate that evening. very rarely visit buffets and this was my first in few years and sad to say this will be my last at this place has put me off and wont be returning. Think they need a height chart as pretty sure children under 140cms where charged as adults.

We came here as a family for my 18th, to have a meal together. However my family wasn’t too impressed with the food and even the drink. They tasted watered down especially the pineapple and orange juice that were ordered. The restaurant is quite small, it was quiet when we came so that wasn’t a problem for us but if it had been full up getting to the food would have probably been difficult as there’s only two islands. One for mains and the other, deserts. The chicken was very soft and completely fell apart when picking it up which wasn’t to our liking, but I suppose that’s preference. The sauce on the curry was amazing however and the duck was really nice, had no fat on it. However, the staff were very friendly, we engaged in trying to learn some mandarin and they gave us lolly pops after as I have two younger brothers. Personally, wouldn’t be coming back, food was average but just not worth what we paid for it.

We went to dragon king this evening for my son’s birthday meal and had a lovely time there, very good table service, the food was great. There’s been lots of improvement from when we went in last year!! It had a really nice atmosphere in there with fairy lights and hanging Chinese lanterns 👌

First of all the women at the bar tried the scam my freind and give him no change rgebonce i got my food it was disgusting the chiken tasted rubbery reheated like it was straight out of a microwave meal do not recommend at all

They have recently moved to orders via their website only for collection, before you could call and order over the phone. The new website isn’t sufficient, extremely slow, pages don’t load or crash. Just terrible. Then when you go to collect your order which you have PAID for already, they argue they have no record of your order or payment - despite us showing proof of both to them!! After 20 mins of rudeness and accusations from the man at the counter, they miraculously find the order! This has happened TWICE now via their ‘new’ system and I’m afraid they have lost a formally regular local customer. Not being able to order over the phone anymore AT ALL I was told as well. Alienating a lot of customers.

This was my first time here after my son recommended it as he’d been before with his friend. The staff were very polite & helpful, the food was very good quality & hot & plenty of it,I would highly recommend going here…I will be returning in September for my mums 80th birthday meal as she really enjoyed it & was very pleased with the whole experience we had …

Food was very disappointing (reheated and dry) Waiter was quite rude when we enquired about our son being charged a child’s rate, didn’t even ask his age just said ‘no’ he’s an adult . Drinks watered down and overpriced

Absolutely awful service! Manager was very rude and gave me a fake name after I was going to report him to trading standards! Tried to hold me hostage in the restaurant as he was locking the doors however as I was on the phone to the police he let me out! Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone!!

We have been going to the Dragon King for many years now. Usually to celebrate our children’s birthdays. They’ve always enjoyed going there, as they like the choice and especially when they had the chocolate fountain! Food has always been hot, and has a good choice of meals to select. Service is always prompt and always friendly. Great for a quick and affordable treat with the children. Please bring back the chocolate fountain!

First time here and not for us. Very big restaurant with a small buffet. The food was cold and chewy. The desserts are just supermarket value jam tarts and fairy cakes.

I have used this restaurant about 5 times and never had a warm or hot meal. The food is always tepid. The buffet has a good choice however and there are plenty of dessert choices too and overall the food is tasty. Staff are polite albeit distant so it has a clinical feel about it.

Horrible, the owner accused some of the party of not paying when we all had recipes. He jumped on us we walked in and demanded payment straight away. Then stood behind us most of the meal to make sure we did make to much waste

The Manager was very rude to all the customers. I will never go there again. He is only interested in making money and does not like customers. Food was adequate.

Great selection of food available for the all you can eat. The layout of the food is a bit odd as a first-timer, there were prawn crackers on the dessert aisle and chocolate chips placed by the salad rather than by the ice cream machine. The food was great quality for an all-you-can-eat. The king prawns were great, and the chicken satay really tender and juicy. We had an enjoyable evening, felt unrushed as we had our meal and numerous plates of grub. The ice cream machine was a hit with everyone, although it is not quite the same as a Mr Whippy, but who comes to a chinese all you can eat for that? The selection of food was ample. We booked for 6pm which was a good time as it was quieter and easier to take your time selecting your food, it started to get busier as time went on, but we were onto desserts by then. The food area is kept topped up well, nothing was ever left empty from what we saw.

We just got home from a family dinner and we are slightly shell-shocked. This restaurant is awful. I asked if they could do a pot of green tea and the waiter said they only did cups of tea. He then brought me a 'Best Dad In The World' mug and a teabag. As I am a middle-aged woman, I think he was taking the ..... The table behind us arrived and ordered a pot of tea, and that is exactly what they received. A pot of tea. The buffet plates are made of plastic. All the food, without exception, was lukewarm and tasteless. The duck, for which you pay a premium for at dinner, was like sawdust. They seem to attract regulars, but these people must have extremely low standards. The best part of the evening was when another diner couldn't turn off the ice-cream machine. Hilarious.

Decided to go for a meal as we were celebrating my birthday, so the three of us, a good mate and the wife decided we should try the Dragon King in Letchworth. It is a buffet style Chinese restaurant, and the place was......empty. The owners...

Visited there on 28th Jan. Now, admittedly we arrived about 9pm However, the food was congealed and almost cold. It's like walking into a canteen area. We received no welcome when we got there. Very strange atmosphere. We had hardly any food on our plates...

I / we used to come a lot and enjoyed it. Now at £19 a head with drinks the bill came to over £70. Sorry the food was not worth £19 each. Shame but we as well won’t return.

We came for a family celebration and I was really disappointed to see the change. Quite a number of the dishes were not hot and a few were not nice tasting. Spring rolls and prawn toast were completely cold. The smoked chicken was luke warm....

I 'was' a regular here. However, on my last trip with 12 family and friends members, the staff insisted that we pay upfront. What a cheek. This isn't normal. During ore stay he kept pushing us to order MORE drinks. They always insist on CASH....

Thought it had become more expensive. Was annoying that staff kept removing plates, wasn't a great atmosphere. Won't be returning.

Extremely disappointed on my last visit. No one greeted at the door, we had to find someone. We were seated next to the back door. Short woman who walks slow doesn't speak good English. She didn't take drink order, we had gotten our first plate...

Have been coming to Dragon King for years (even had some of my birthdays here as a child) and it has never disappointed :) Came for lunch, excellent value for money, good selection of dishes and super friendly staff. Can’t fault it :)

This place is so good would definitely come back. staff are very friendly too. Loved the chicken & sweetcorn soup especially.

Fantastic night celebrating grandkids belated birthdays, busy on a Thursday night, great selection of foods, hot, serving staff very attentive. Plates cleared quickly, food filled up very regularly. Can't wait to go back.

Nearly didn’t go after reading previous reviews! Very happy we ignored them. Can’t fault dragon king. Attentive staff. Plenty of choice of delicious food both savoury & desserts. No restrictions on number of plates or dishes used. Food was topped up regularly. I’m happy to recommend & will revisit soon.

The food was cold and hardly anything there to eat. After asking multiple times for it to be refilled there still wasn’t anything after an hour! One of the staff took a bag of rubbish with all sorts over it and without washing her hands went round touching all the food trays and spoons in the food. They were rude to us and accused us of lying. Would not go back whatsoever.

Has badly gone down till since change of ownership. The food trays were empty and what was available was cold. When speaking to the manager he just made excuses 'like we are busy' there was only 6 tables of people eating!!! If you want to stay off the toilet avoid at all costs!!!!

Came to dragon king for dinner and was disappointed by the poor atmosphere, mediocre service and overpriced food. While the food was of poor quality, this would have been bearable had it not been surrounded by flies. Very unappetising and unhygienic. Will not be retuning.

I went to the establishment yesterday dinner time and as soon as I got home I have been sick 15 times and have been to the hospital and they confirmed food poisoning was the cause would not recommend to anyone

We have just had a “meal here and highly encourage people to NOT go here! Disgusting over priced food! We actually left after feeling really sick, tables are chipped badly, food is just about warm puddings are cheap fairy cakes fruit and cheap jelly , only decent thing is the ice cream machine. £80 for 4 meals and 6 colas (not even real coke)

dragonkingletchworth website doesn't work, misleading customer as a result. Most of their staff don't speak English, it is only one man can speak English politely . So don't expect any basic service from the whole restaurant. Foods are nothing special, deserts are super cheap from Iceland, drinks are so outdated, decoration is very bright no romantic feel, tables is a piece of chipped wood, their toilet is the worst, NO TOILET SEAT in the female room , toilet roll storage are all broken.. .how can the restaurant promise hygienic food standard to their customers ?Safety is the main concern in the year of COVID19 . Cheaper, poor restaurant should consider the issue seriously, be responsible for their customers and the public. Dragonking is far far below the score sheet.

Absolutely despicable food! £50 for 3 people and was only in the restaurant 10 minutes before getting up and leaving due inadequate staff and lack fresh produce. Absolute shame not how I remembered it. Will definitely not return and would not recommend to anyone in the future

Arrived for a dinner nice meal only to be rushed in the door by a worker. Rushed us is in and told us to hurry up whilst coming in and scanning the app. Had a rude tone and was very abrupt the whole time speaking to him. Seemed like he wanted us to leave early so he could go home early. His attitude made us want to walk straight out but thought we would stay as the food has been good in the past. £36 for 2 people and the food was a mixture of warm and cold and was very dry. Not worth the money and left feeling unsatisfied and a little unwell. Seemed like the food had been out for a few hours and whenever they ran low someone just topped it up with stuff that didn’t look freshly cooked. Wouldn’t go again!!

Went with my partner and 3 children and was charged for 5 adults £68 staff stand and stare while your eating.

We used to come here a lot when we lived in letchworth, but this is our first revisit in 4 years.... and we won’t be back. We went here today for lunch, our first buffet experience since Covid started. I like the idea of giving us all disposable gloves to handle the utensils... good ideaThe food though was pretty dire. We got there at 2 pm and most of the starter items were hard, overcooked and hard to eat!! The main course was slightly better but no idea how long that food had been kept warm for before we got there?? I enjoyed the puddings afterwards I have to say :-). The waiter switched off the buffet whilst we were there as no more customers due I guess... there was lots of food left and I really hope tonight’s diners are not getting our leftovers ??!!Why is the price not advertised ?? I had to google to find out what lunch would cost us... £8.90 for a lunch I would NOT recommend this restaurant... do yourself a big favour and drive if you can to Old Town Stevenage... there’s an amazing Chinese restaurant /takeaway there (OTC)

Me and my friend decided to go out for a late dinner, the moment we arrived we were greeted by a man who was very brash and overbearing. He also seemed quite sarcastic. Once we were seated we got our food and were the only table in the whole restaurant. Two of the female staff just sat at a table opposite the bar staring at me and my friend the whole time making us both feel uneasy. There was no music, no happy atmosphere, it was tragic. The man that greeted us at the beginning also charged up to our table when my friend stepped outside for a moment and he had his hands behind his back and was circling our table and really looked at my friends dinner plate so I asked him if he was okay to which he replied “yah yah yah yah” and walked off, surely it should be him asking how I’m enjoying my meal and not the other way around?!!I won’t be visiting again. What a shame.

My mum and myself ordered a takeaway from here tonight and we both thought it was disgusting. We had prawn crackers, crispy duck in pancakes, egg fried rice and crispy seaweed and sweet and sour chicken balls. Some of the prawn crackers were stale and unappetizing, the duck was seriously dried out, more like cremated duck not crispy duck! The seaweed was also disgusting, was really dried out and unappetizing and had absolutely no flavour, just like cremated seaweed. As for the sweet and sour chicken balls and the egg fried rice, well just about acceptable I suppose. Previously your takeaways have been delicious really fresh and tasty. I don't know what happened tonight but your quality of food has badly gone downhill.

Used to come here a lot with family great atmosphere and staff but haven’t been due to lockdown and we were greeted at the door by a very rude, snappy and demanding man, never the person to complain unless there is a problem, the food was bland and flavourless and there is a loss of character to staff and setting!

As it's my partner birthday meal as he likes it here but since covid 19 he don't like eating out.here you need to be here by 5 pm before people turn up n go to food stations without gloves or mask like tonight it put us off going up for more.staff are gloves n mask on n make you do same unless you are disabled. We saw few people didn't bother wearing either. Place is clean thou and service is ok. Just need to be more strict on people not following the rules or change it that only 1 person serves you what you want be better.

One of the ladies was picking her teeth around customers. Unacceptable given current circumstances. Food is good and the waiting staff are friendly however the chubby boss wouldn't allow us to leave without giving a tip! All tips are put straight in the bosses pocket which is crazy. Avoid leaving tips if you can unless you can discreetly give to the waiting staff. I feel awful for them, staff are treated so poorly!

Went here on Saturday 19th for my daughter's birthday as a party of five. My husband was asked to write the details of all attending . Hand sanitizer was available at the entrance and all staff were wearing face coverings. It was requested that we wear face coverings whilst moving around the restaurant and were given gloves to wear when we went up to get our food.We were seated at a table a decent distance from any other diners that were in there. The staff were social distancing as best they could,which unfortunately couldn't be said of all the patrons! The food was very good and there was a good selection.

Thought we'd try on this gov scheme. Restaurant clean. Staff lovely and friendly. Impressed by the available PPE and social distancing. Food was outstanding and hot would recommend dragon king at any time . Very cheap on the gov scheme but worth paying full price. Fantastic place for a lovely meal

Been here once with a friend, I liked it came back with my partner and we been here twice before lock down in March. Staff are OK. Clean n tidy. Prices are OK for drinks, buffet style dinner so it's fix price for that. Disabled friendly for access but to get the food it be tight for wheelchair n upper eating is steps. But there're seats on main floor for wheelchair so no problem there. Food is good mixture of starters, mains n desserts.they do take out aswell. Nice decor.

Rang for a take away delivery. Gentleman on the telephone was very polite & pleasant. Delivery was quick & delivery drive was also very pleasant. As for the meal....delicious! One of the best take away meal we have had for a long time. Highly recommended

Was out looking for place to eat, done many "all you can eat buffet" around beds herts and cambs areas, and well this is now on the top of our list of places to dine!For an "all you can eat" venue we were most impressed with how freshly cooked all the food was and the fantastic variety to choose from, what The Dragon aslo did that beats all the other similar places was to offer freshly cooked King Prawns!! And all this is achieved at more than reasonable pricesDefinitely a place worth visiting if you want dam good westernized Chinese foodFor those who are cultural too, look at the back wall, at the hangings! See if you can gues whats different!!

Fixed price self serve hot and cold buffet. Good selection of food but I feel the eat in food is not as good as the take away. Kids love it..they get to eat only what they like !

We were welcomed by lovely staff and were shown to a table that looked a little shabby (could do with a sand down and varnish) we were offered drinks straight away and once ordered we were free to help ourselves to the buffet food! Everything on offer looked, smelled and tasted really lovely. As a family we all enjoyed our meals.Thankyou so much.

We were met with a friendly smiling face and although we had not booked she found us a table, we were 3 adults and 7 children. When the lady found out it was one of the children's birthday she made him a special dessert with a candle at the end of the meal. The food was lovely and fresh being changed regularly and the kids loved the selection of deserts. Whenever I am in England visiting family I will visit this restaurant as it was a really great experience

So I'd heard lots about this place and myself and 3 other family members decided to try the place out. On entrance we thought blimey it's a bit tatty but that soon went by the way. The welcome we had was genuine. We were made to feel like people not numbers and the food, well my first plate was five styles of chicken and it was goooooood. Excellent choices and the desserts were plentiful. I recommend that you try this place but if your a snob jog on. I'm actually going there from now on instead of Nines in Cambridge where you do feel like a number. Happy eating

It is a long time since we visited as we don't live in the area but thought standards were still the same, which is very good.We were encouraged by the staff to keep helping ourselves to the vast choice of food. A good selection of starters including King Prawns and again King Prawns in the choice of mains. Also all the ingredients for Peking Duck, both of which I often find missing in help yourself buffets. All the food was hot and fresh and there was someone checking that it was quickly replenished when necessary. Then there are the desserts, which included a chocolate fountain with marshmallows etc. Just a shame we didn't have our grandchildren with us.We were also pleasantly surprised by the extremely reasonable drinks prices, a bottle of wine for £9.99!!We found this terrific value at £13.99 for evening dinner (Monday - Thursday). It is £14.49 Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The price for children is £5.99.Lovely staff, good food and reasonable prices, what's not to like?!We paid the bill and then we were handed a bamboo calendar for 2020.

This is the first time visit to Dragon King. The food was hot and fresh and very tasty. A big restaurant with lots of variety to choose from. The manager was polite and helpful. Highly Recommended.

Having not been forcat least 2 years I was pleased at the improved quality of the food . This time it was hot and freshly cooked . The hot and sour soup is delicious . Staff very cheerful .

Used to be very good but has gone steadily down hill over the last few years. We thought we would give it a go to see if it has improved, only to find it has now hit ROCK BOTTOM.

Andy, the manager, worst manager in the business. He has no idea about how to ensure his guest are happy, and is focused on one thing only, and that's ensuring everyone pays in full regardless of experience.

The chicken in my curry wasn't cooked all the way through. Brought it up with management who were trying to argue it was a wing and that there was nothing wrong with it. They still charged us full price even though I and my family couldn't eat any more. I left 3/4 of what I had.

We popped in for a last minute lunch and found it to be enjoyable.

I took my sister here for her birthday, we got seated quickly, food was ok I guess very greasy And the chicken was pink still. We was sat near the buffet, on the wall there was mould, horrendous! Took my daughters food while she was eating it. Took my water while I wasn’t finished it. Only got offered 1 drink and then tried to charge me for two children under their measurement requirement....safe to say, I won’t be going back again.

I’ve been to the dragon several times and always found the food good here. Sometimes loud with a lot of families and kids but the food makes up for it. I went today for my stepdads birthday and the food was great. Lots of options. Since I last went they have updated their dessert options and made more variety including a whippy ice cream machine. Overall had a lovely meal though although I do think my food was on not on the hot side and that was my only complaint really. I would happily go back here.

I went here on a first date, we planned it earlier on in the week and was really exited about it.

When we were over charged the service from the manager was inexplicable and refused a refund. When we were finally refunded, as a group we were told not to come back. The food was average but not everything listed was there and so I wouldn’t have gone back even if they didn’t tell me not to. Worst restaurant service iv had, don’t bother going.

My daughter ate here on Tuesday night with a group of friends. The food was very dry and she was disappointed that there wasn’t a chocolate fountain as advertised on the restaurant’s website. My daughter asked for a glass of tap water but was told she couldn’t have any! The staff kept asking for the group to pay before all the friends had arrived and they ended up overpaying. But when they asked to be refunded, the staff were extremely rude and initially refused to refund them! They did eventually get some money refunded but only half of what they were owed. Whist the friends were still having their meal the staff were very rude to the group and told them not to come back!

My daughter visited with 14 friends aged 15/16. They were overcharged by two people and they only refunded one of them. The staff told them not to come back. Avoid ....

Went for lunch Saturday. Few people in restaurant. Starters were almost empty' chicken wings were dried up and inedible. Ribs were mainly bones and gristle, hardly any meat what we did manage to scrape together was Luke warm. Soups were not hot either so more like gaspacio Main dishes, well if you like beef that wasn't beef and chicken that isn't chicken, you will love it. Did like the Satay sauce and prayers crackers. Used to be so much better here, really gone down hill. Won't be back again until things improve

We go here at mid day time and its always been a good pleasure to eat here. There's not many good Chinese buffets about across Beds and Herts etc. but this one is probably the best. Friendly staff, a good choice of food and very tasty. Yes will always go back.

You get what it says on the tin so to speak! It’s ‘eat as much as you like’ Chinese buffet. Lots of choice to choose from and fill your plates. It’s not the cleanest of establishments (don’t go in the toilets - totally vile) but what do you except for £15 for your dinner! Would I go back - NO.

Must have been going to Dragon King at least every couple of months for 8 years or more but after tonight, never again. Refused to seat us where we asked as they said they needed to clean the area, people were sat there when we arrived were still there when we left, so no good reason at all. Sat us next to a group of 20 girls who literally screamed all night. No problem with that but why put a family next to them?! Gave them my card to pay and they passed the machine to my young son when it asked for a tip - this is a buffet and the service was poor even then - only realised how much they had whacked on when I left. Food was poor, this place used to be great and the guy who used to be front of house - now they are appalling, avoid like the plague. Very sad - just lost another loyal customer.

Food was alright for the price but one of the male members of staff coming round and being very overly friendly with my and other people’s children was extremely off putting. Will not be returning, especially with my kids.

I know this is a help yourself buffet but staff loiter as opposed to serve you. Definitely felt uncomfortable Was offered a drink on arrival but nothing after that yet there were only four people in the restaurant at the time and I counted seven staff. The food was awful and we will never visit again. Literally as soon as we arrived home I was sick. We ate a mixture of dishes. The crispy chicken was soggy where it had been sitting there so long Staff kept getting up and stirring the food yet nothing fresh arrived in the time we were there. Funny thing was the staff sat down while we were there and were fed This came out of the kitchen in saucepans fresh and hot. What does that tell you. Obviously they don’t eat the stale food in the buffet selection that we have to eat. Feeling better this morning. Charged £14.99 each for the privilege. Never again.

This is nice buffet food all you can eat for a fixed price. We went the around 2pm lunchtime.The food is fresh and hot so was worth it until I asked for the bill!! As they tried to charge me for evening prices not LUNCH?? It was lucky I checked the price list to be honest as I am sure there are a lot of people that don’t. It was £20 extra he tried to charge me until I questioned it. He gave me my £20 back on my card but asked for my PIN number which again I thought was odd. I never gave it to him of course so just beware if you visit here. Won’t go back there now

Went there tonight with my partner for date night the food was cold and stail not at all nice at all I understand it's a buffet and they were busy but come on the food should be warmer then what it was deffo won't be going back again for a while
