Worst crispy duck I have ever had in my life; got a couple of wraps out of it but basically a tub filled with skin, gristle and fat. Had to spit it out on the plate. Absolutely disgusting!

excellent salt and chilli prawns

I'm familiar with the term crispy duck but there was literally no soft duck under the crispiness, it was burnt through. I also ordered upon noodles and got chicken chow mein with no explanation

The crispy beef was horrible, the black beef was really gloopy and thick and the duck had loads of hard shards in it so overal was not very nice but the delivery was very quick

Inch of oil in each of the meals now. I know there’s a lot of oil in Chinese food but quite ridiculous

Absolutely awful. Im so disappointed as chop suey used to be a brilliant hitchin takeaway, got it as a treat this evening. Complete waste of money. Some of it was absolutely inedible, the rice tastes off, the chicken in the chicken balls was rock solid, chips undercooked. Honestly terrible.

Best Chinese takeaway in Hitchin by far. We’ve had nothing but excellent food since ordering after it re-opened and does delivery.

it pains me to say this because the last time I had food from here was 6 months ago and was so disappointed with what food I got was so very poor not what this the once great takeaway provided.

The Wonton soup was absolutely delicious, great flavours and a generous amount of wontons as well as lovely vegetable accompaniments. I also got the House Chow Mein, the noodles were cooked to perfection and there was a great mixture of pork, beef, chicken and prawns. The prawn spring rolls were delicious, only thing I’ll say is it would’ve been great if they came with a sweet chilli dipping sauce. That being said all in all it was a wonderful order and I will be coming here again!

There has been a few poor reviews lately but we used at the beginning of June and a biggish order and the food was of a very good standard and this is the first time we have used for some time as we avoid too many take aways! It was quiet but it is a take away not a sitting restuarant.

Best Chinese takeaway we’ve had in Hitchin. It used to be good but didn’t deliver, and was put off by the negative reviews of new ownership. Maybe that was just them settling in though as the two takeaways we’ve had have been great. Regents cottage aside, this is incomparably better than the other Chinese takeaways.

Delicious take away dinner. We had Singapore Noodle with rice vermicelli and extra chilli annd vegetables with satay sauce. The vegetables were wonderfully fresh and crunchy. The satay sauce had little segments of pineapple. Wonderful. The Singapore Noodle had lots of prawns and meat cut finely, and lots of fiery chilli. Superb!

It's the end of an Era, been eating here for 30 years and it's sadly gone down the pipe, doesn't taste fresh, very expensive and the amount of salt in the meal was terrible. Never again.

Since management has changed hands , quality of food has gone down and prices have gone up! Young lady taking payment doesn't even say please or thank you . The quality was good at first but not now it's just average but not worth the money they are charging. I've been coming here for years but will go elsewhere now. Wouldn't recommend anymore. They should change the name instead of living off a good reputation. No excuses to serve up average dishes for premium prices .

My whole life is totally ruined.turns out this was the only place that knew how to make Chinese food. No more Chinese for me! Sad times. Surely the old chefs could of taught them a thing or two before leaving

So sad to be writing this review but so disappointed. Loyal customers for 35 years and over the last couple of years there have been some changes but whatever has happened in recent months seems to have caused this well respected establishment to be a shadow of its former self. It’s very clear there have been cost cutting efforts (understandable in current climate) but this is to the detriment of the food quality. Ordered chicken chop suey and what I received was so far from the original I used to order. They’ve opted to go for a sweet n sour style sauce rather than the original white sauce! Not sure as to why they had to ruin a perfectly good dish!! The seaweed was chewy and the veggie spring rolls were so clearly frozen and had little to no filling! Bland food with poor quality ingredients. You can see from recent refurbishments internally it looks as if they’re going for a bland look with no atmosphere, when you’d usually hear a hustle and bustle in the kitchen there was just silence! I think this will be our last time ever ordering which is such a shame! RIP Chop Suey Bar as we once knew it!

Gutted to say the least...been using this place for 40 yrs...but not anymore shockingly bad food..well compared to what it was up till about 3 months ago!! Bland boring tasteless no unique flavors..all gone..must be thousands of loyal customers over the years very disappointed.such a shame!! And to still call it chop suey bar is a joke.

This Chinese take away used to be our go to place for a nice Chinese chicken curry and more but recently the quality has plummeted and the price has rocketed....... Tonight's curry was basic with none of that mysterious spicy taste that always distinguishes a take away from the supermarket equivalent. The rice was very plain and not very tasty. The price was, I thought too high for the items we ordered. I don't do a lot of reviews but felt after tonight's effort from this restaurant that I had to report. I won't be going there again. It's such a shame that this restaurant has gone downhill.. Just my opinion, I hope it helps

The best Chinese in town is no more, having been taken over by some outfit from Stopsley the menu is now bereft of all the family favourites. The special fried rice has no egg, the gravey/sauce is a out of the bottle cheap kind and not the unctuous rib gravey it should be. Also the cartons have changed from fully recyclable foil/cardboard to plastic. Needless to say we're looking for a new place to get our fix :(

The Hitchin Chop Suey Bar has always been good, but they have a new chef, apparently, and the food tonight was excellent - fresh and flavoursome.

We’ve used this takeaway for at least ten years, if not more and apart from a blip, due to a change of Staff, the food has always been good. Food was on time and was well cooked and very good. Staff were friendly and always check everything is ready to go. Well worth a visit.

I have been coming here for over 25 years. Tastiest Chinese around. We have tried a few!! Only thing … Large dishes are still quite small Prices have gone up, definitely now the most expensive around. Still … yummy though.

I've used this place on and off for over 20 years, but after tonight I'm done with it. It's always been a bit more expensive than other takeaways, which used to be justified, but it's really gone downhill the last few years, And the portions are now comical - a £13 meal bar barely covered half a plate tonight. I can forgive expensive, I can't forgive expensive and stingey.

I decided to try this place after several recommendations from friends. The food is really nice with lots of dishes to try that aren’t available at other Chinese Takeaway places (try the King Prawn Cantonese style). Veg options are a bit lacking (they haven’t joined the Aubergine band wagon like other places), however all the meals are obviously ‘home made’ rather than just reheated/deep fried. The Pancake roll (large) is definitely the best I’ve ever had. They don’t deliver & aren’t on any apps, but I’ve never had to wait longer than 25mins between ordering & collecting my meal.

Its a little bit expensive but its one of the better chinese takeout places in Hitchin. Food is tasty and when I go to collect I never need to wait very long, its pretty much ready on time. Its a regular place for us.

The best Chinese in hitchin in my opinion. They don't deliver, which I think is cool and I think their opening hours aren't long either. But well worth the walk to collect. You can order ahead or buy at the counter.

Good quality food but expensive. Less meat in the dishes even though the price keeps going up. The two youngsters behind the counter have no manners and never say please when they ask for the money and rarely say thank you.

This used to be the best Chinese in Hitchin by a country mile, been coming to chop airy bar for over 40x years,ever since I was a kid,but sadly this place has gone downhill dramatically,especially when Kathleen and her family retired and sold the business a few years ago! The prices just keep going up and up and the food quality keeps going down and down,I won’t eat from here anymore !! Sad times !!

Been visiting this take away for over 25 years. A fantastic family run business that’s easily the best in the area..(that’s saying something with so many restaurants and take seats nearby) The food and service has always been fabulous. Never ever had an issue. Highly recommended !

Sorry to say my takeaway was awful. Won ton soup was tasteless. Pancake roll was tasteless. Sweet and sour chicken balls stodgy batter, once you cut into them. Chicken chow mein was excellent and thank god. Not a good experience.

Great meal. Initially concerned as our Crispy duck was very, very crispy but the rest of the takeaway was fantastic.

I usually go to magic wok which is so fresh and tasty and the portions are huge, but due to covid is closed at the moment. Collected my Chinese which was ready and waiting, which I was impressed with however the food Portions are tiny for a Chinese (usually a meal for 1 is enough to feed two!) the egg fried rice has no egg in it and is bland, the chicken balls are over fried, greasy and all batter with a tiny bit of brown pork in the middle, the chow mein is the only decent part. Paid £10.80 for this and really is not worth the money!
