Food excellent and speed of service great

Great food and experience! Always polite and kind, and they are respectful of our vegan diet. All vegan options are labelled on the menu, and the dishes we order frequently are delicious! Phone-calls are quick and clear, which is fab. We always state the number of the item, and what we want clearly, and they double-check. Thus, no mistakes have been made!

Great food, all tasted really fresh and didn’t leave us feeling gross afterwards (which lots of takeaways normally do!) Will definitely be coming back!

Lovely Chinese takeaway in the centre of Royston. The staff were friendly and were very clear on the phone when ordering. The food was delicious although slightly dry I needed some sauce to make it a bit more flavourful. Overall a good Chinese takeaway to have dinner from!

My preferred Chinese takeaway in Royston, very friendly staff and a great selection of vegetarian and vegan options clearly labelled with staff who are ready to accommodate. I'm very boring with my Chinese food choices but what I've tried has been great!!

Don't know if it's changed owners but it's not as nice anymore. Been coming here for years but the last two times noticed it's gone downhill. Higher prices for cheaper products. We used to love the chips they were thick homemade chips but are now just out of a freezer. Chicken balls seem cheaper product not as crispy or pure white chicken like before. Such a shame it was always our go to Chinese

Really gone down hill. I can only assume they have new owners as the food was really poor and used to be a very reliable takeaway. Can’t even cook fried rice (hint…..it is not meant to be just boiled rice!). Won’t be returning.

Wonderful selection of food and catered to a gluten free order with pleasure! Staff so happy to help advise on safe options. Food was delicious and hot!

Arranged collection on 02/08 on two orders. One for the children so earlier and one later for the adults. Staying next door in an Airbnb. The staff were friendly. The food was ready far too quickly to be freshly prepared and cooked. Each order was varied and between 4-5 dishes. Each order was ready to collect in 20 mins!!! The food arrived hot. But with zero flavour. Bland. No use of spices or salt. Thick nasty sauce. Odd flavours. Tasted like plastic. Expect quick, hot, poorly seasoned, weird tasting muck!!!

Had chinese from here for the first time with my family. We spent approximately £80 for 7 of us. The food order was quick, order was correct and food was absolutely outstanding! Thank you Lotus House, we will be back!

To be honest, Lotus House is a fairly typical Chinese takeaway. Food is decent, quantity is good and service is brisk.

Never tried Lotus House before, as our normal chinese was to busy to deliver in a suitable time span. What a find, my king prawn batter balls was lovely. The family throughly enjoyed there food. The crispy shredded chicken was lovely too. Please starting delivering to Bassingbourn

Orderd what we hoped was going to be a delightful first valentines meal as a couple It was absolutely awful, not a single nice thing to say. The egg fried rice had no visible egg and was tastless, the seaweed was too sweet and inedible. One part of our order was wrong and the beef was lacking in sauce or flavour. We will most definitely not be using this Chinese again I would rather go hungry.

Food is shocking didn’t get the right food. Ordered spring rolls they gave us prawn toast seaweed isn’t edible, beef isn’t edible, egg fried rice has no egg do not recommend eating here 0/10 overpriced as well.

One of the worst chineses i have ever bought my order wasn’t correct. I ordered vegetable spring rolls and got prawn toast instead. The egg fried rice had no egg it was plain. The crispy chilli beef wasn’t edible. The seaweed was way too sweet and tasted artificial. Do not recommend this place way too overpriced aswel.

I asked if they took card as I was £1 short and she said yes but we prefer cash Not the correct answer Should be ‘sure we accept card payments’ . Won’t be going back there again

Food was lovely but cold. The lady that served me, was friendly and smiled. The waiting area was freezing cold.

A sea change seems to have occurred here and the food is now delicious. Fresh tasting, no grease, perfectly spiced with generous portions. Would now definitely recommend!

First, and last time! Ordered before it even opened via telephone and somehow they STILL managed to get it wrong. The only offer was they’d offer us the same item free next time! What is the point? Don’t waste your money! Response to reply - Well unfortunately this is England we live in, and a good proportion of the population speak English so you might want to work on that. You didn’t need to change the order, you already charged me and knew you should have provided the item as per your reaction on the telephone. And finally the item is no good free the next time around as there won’t be a next time.

Capital spare ribs were nice, Chicken satay was good. Allways seems busy. Worth a try.

Awful! Having used Lotus House for 30 years this will be my last time. Today the Capital ribs were tough and chewy, there were just 4 ribs and the sauce was very watery. The Special Fried Rice was OK but was just about warm. The prawn crackers, thankfully free, were the worst I've ever had, cold, stale, and broken into small pieces. I hate to think how long ago they were cooked, and not looking forward to tomorrow if I manage to keep them contained long enough. Even the dogs left them until they realised they weren't getting any thing else Most unusual!! On top of that, the young lady serving couldn't pick up the change due to the length of her nails, having said that in her favour she was at least polite. All in all the worst meal I've ever had from any take away in Royston! (I did take photos to prove my point but it won't let me upload them here?)😩 Saw the reply from Lotus House below. How is it that before the containers were able to hold more than 4 ribs? There was plenty of sauce it was just very watery. As for returning the food and having it remade, that's fine if you live in town and are able to return it straight away but I live 2 miles away and that wasn't an option, and why should I have to return a meal for replacement, it should be right in the first instance not after a second attempt. As for cooking 'fresh' crackers every 2 days, then they aren't fresh cooked at all but are 2 days old, which is why they were tasting stale and were broken into small pieces.

To be fair the chicken and beef dishes we had were cooked ok, but slathered in a monosodium glutamate goo. The egg fried rice was dry crusty and tasteless. All in all a disgraceful disaster that wait in the bin. I also am sceptical in this Covid day and age with a takeaway that only takes cash. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Ordered only a few dishes. We USED to love the pancake rolls… we ordered tonight and threw it straight in the bin… the rice was the only thing that was ok but the sweet & sour pork balls were dripping in grease… all in all really disappointing… less grease and sort the pancake rolls out… bring back the ones they had before.. such a shame…

Ordered by phone given a time to collect. Late but didn't object to waIting. However food bloody dreadful. Ordered egg fried rice, no egg at all and, more importantly, the rice was burnt, and not just a bit. It was black, all round the outside and not any better when turned out. I also Ordered mini veg spring rolls, which were ice cold and had a dreadful greasy aftertaste. Also Ordered chicken chow mein but after looking at it, didn't bother. Bloody dreadful meal and waste of £15. Don't bother.

after reading the bad reviews and having been a customer for 11 years it did put us off but decided to try it for ourselves. the food was lovely the chips are delicious fat homemade chips and crispy chicken balls. only issue is the very slow service once you turn up to pick the food up as its sat on the side waiting and was cold by the time we got it home, but it was a busy evening which is great to see and we will return

Good standard Chinese takeaway. Cash only.

The Lotus House was always our go to Chinese Restaurant in Royston for over 30 years. Unfortunately since the new owners went in this year the food quality has drastically reduced and is no where near the excellent standard of old. If you like your dishes swimming in grease then you're in luck as everything now comes prepared this way. At first we put the poor quality down to the change of management but subsequent take away's have not improved. Family/friends who have also had meals here have all had similar experiences so its no one off, hopefully something changes and the standard improves once more.

Been going to the Lotus House for over 30 years. It has been at times a very regular haunt and because of that I know their dishes very well. The Lotus House over that time has always been at the very least a guaranteed 7/10 in standard every time you ordered. Since the change of ownership, I'm afraid it now sits far lower. Was happy to give them the benefit of doubt while they settled in, now several weeks on I'm afraid its maybe even getting worse from their first few weeks. Dishes seem far more watery and flavourless. Salt and Pepper ribs recently ordered were swimming in grease and had no flavour other than that. The crispy pork in the Triple Crown just had a fatty gelatine consistency and my beef curry was also watery and lacking any punch. Real shame, hope they turn it around but it has definitely put me off going back for a while.

New ownership means slow service at the moment, hopefully things will get better and I can update this review I the future, but for now it’s very slow!

The food here is amazing. Large portion sizes for the price. I often find I have enough left overs to have them for dinner the following day. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recomend.

This was the 2nd time we have used Lotus House as we enjoyed the first one so much after all the Christmas Food we opted for a takeaway from there. We were not disappointed we enjoyed an excellent meal.

Living nearby we had never had a take away from the Lotus House so we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. We rang our order through and it was ready in 15/20 minutes for collection. Food was excellent Duck with Mushrooms, Lemon Chicken, Sweet & Sour Pork, Rice & Noodles all dishes were delicious and piping hot. We really enjoyed our meal and will definately be using Lotus House again to try some more of their lovely food.

If you wished to see what a chinese takeaway was like more than 40 years ago this is the place for you. Hand written prices on sticky tape, cash only, free prawn crackers and easy parking outside. Food is of the era - very glutinous and filling, and all looking remarkably similar. A throwback !

Ok. So I've been going here, off and on, man and boy for at least 35 years. i can't believe no ones listed it here. IMHO this is one of the best Chinese takeaways I've ever been in - and I've been in more than my fair share form Melbourne (The Victoria one) to San Francisco.The food's good, very good, all freshly cooked to order. The spare ribs are the meatiest and biggest I've seen. Pancake rolls are a meal in themselves. No portions are scrimped - its all good. The guys here have been doing this for at least three generations and it shows.Highly recommended.
