The Doyen in Belfast

Went yesterday to watch The Rugby, had a meal, we were disappointed that there was no dietary alternatives when we asked the staff could a dietary requirement be met we were just told No, we were here last year for the Rugby and they did have dietary preferences. We then asked for a plain burger with just onions, to be told it would be £1.50 extra for the onions..... now that is just ridiculous. We then headed into the bar where we ordered cocktails which were delicious, but when we went to order a second one we were told they had stopped selling cocktails..... it was only 10pm, overall a disappointing visit compared to previous years

Barstaff were fine, quick and polite, god help them dealing with some of the scumbags that drink in there, Guinness was good, food was OK . Great if you like drunken bald fat bloke's or bitter foul mouthed women .

Didn't have a Meal but a great place for a few drinks and unwhine after a day's work....again a Brampton Canadian visiting Family....

Disgusted I’m not sure if it was an ageist decision or not, but on arrival the employee behind the bar signalled over to the employee seating us that my family and I should sit for Sunday lunch in the back bar. The employee then mumbled that it was due to “lots of bookings” for the front restaurant. I was surprised as only 2 tables at this stage were occupied in the front restaurant. We were well presented - I would have happily walked into e.g. the Merchant for lunch that day. Later when I went into the front area to ask for the bill I could see all the empty tables still empty so the “lots of bookings” excuse was obviously incorrect. I made sure to walk with my mum and dad out of the bar exit to hope they wouldn’t also realise what had happened. Not a nice start to what was taking my mum out for a birthday lunch. Would not recommend.

Not as I expected at all according to reviews. Just so so.

Was relatively surprised with the food, expecting pub grub and getting restaurant quality. Ordered the Cauliflower Fritters and Chorizo on Naan for starters and then the Pull Pork Sandwich for main. Food was lovely and reasonably priced. For added entertainment, I would recommend the quiz on a Thursday.

Went here for a staff Christmas meal December 2024. Very busy and popular on a Saturday night. Main bar had a nice vibe, busy but not too crowded. Fast service. Several other staff meals were happening in the large and modern function room. Food was served well and efficiently. Good quality for something produced in such high volume. There must have been 200 there that night. A DJ was playing after the meal. Far too loud for my liking, but loads of others were up dancing and having a great time. The Doyen is a bit out of town, so difficult to get to; it's a taxi ride from town.

Food was gorgeous very good atmosphere good for work parties etc .

Overpriced and no atmosphere. Avoid any bars run by wine inns. They are nothing but a money racket. This bar used to be great when it was the kings head but wine inns ruined it and ran out all the regulars. Mark up on drink is ridiculous. Near £6 for every pint and a Guinness is £6. Guinness zero is £5.50!!! This bar and the company are a sham. Avoid all bars run by Wine Inns.

We went for an early dinner on a Saturday at around 5.30pm and as expected it was really quiet. Service was great though maybe a little fast with no real break between courses. Starters were ok but to be honest not great and the mains even worse! We've been on a Sunday for the roast dinners and they are nice so I was surprised at this experience. Starter: - Goats cheese salad - really should be called a beetroot salad. - Crispy chicken wings - not so crispy but still nice! Mains: - Pea & asparagus risotto- boring half way through and the 'garlic bread' was truly awful! - Fish and chips - I've had this many times in many places, this was the worst! The fish had zero flavour though the batter was lovely. The chips were hard, tasted of bad oil and luckily came as a child's portion. Dessert - I thought to myself, it's hard to do a bad crumble... I was wrong!!! Oh and the drinks were flat!

Called in for a late lunch, few pints and to watch the rugby. Steak sandwich was great, no pepper sauce with it but the pepper mayo was a suitable alternative. Been before and will be back again I'm sure.

I love this bar, it's quirky layout and great service makes it a great hangout for a few beers and some good food. Highly recommended.

Fantastic beer garden. Previously had a bad experience here with the bouncers but enjoyed a nice quiet afternoon here, on a hot Sunday. Good drink selection, friendly staff and probably also decent for sport.

This place is a sham female servers are terrible. Food good but the female servers are so rude. They are so unprofessional. Won't be back. They don't sell Gordon's gin or even bombay sapphire.

The staff could do any more than what they did brilliant place to go 4 dinner

Really nice Sunday Roast, 2 courses for £22. Service staff were friendly and attentive. Pints were a little expensive, £6.15 for Citra IPA.

The staff was friendly and accommodating. The food was very tasty. It was the Easter special dinner menu. They were able to cater to gluten and mild dairy intolerances.

Very nice atmosphere, with lovely decor. I was really impressed with my starter of Chilli Squid and my main course of Chicken Supreme. The food was delicious and very well presented. Lovely, friendly and efficient staff made the evening run smoothly. I was part of a very big group of c. 20 people, so it was quite incredible to be served so quickly with food of such a high standard. I would thoroughly recommend The Doyen for group bookings and will definitely look forward to coming back again.

Great food ,great value for money n great staff

Went for Easter Dinner with the family and the rest of them had a nice time, with a good selection of roasts on offer for them! Service was also very good given that it was a busy holiday. However, veggie options were very limited and clearly a basic afterthought! No vegan starters or desserts, and the only vegan main was a risotto that I found quite flavourless, though the chestnuts in it were a nice addition. Settled for vegetarian options for starter and dessert as everyone else in our group was having three courses, and, to be fair; they were nice (goats cheese salad, and Sticky toffee pudding), but the mains were unfortunately either a risotto or a tomato pasta, the stereotype of bad vegetarian menus everywhere. For the same price as a roast dinner on a set menu, I would have loved a vegetarian roast as an option: portobello mushroom, a nut roast, or even just some roasted veggies of some kind!

Had a nice meal and pint. Staff friendly and efficent. Returned for a birthday celebration recently. The room was excellent. The food was great and the staff and in particular the manager Adam were extremely attentive, nothing was too much bother. A great night was had by all. I couldn’t fault anything at all. I would highly recommended The Doyen if you’re planning a gathering or celebration.

10 of us went yesterday for dinner. All of us loved the food. However the waitress went out of her way to be rude at every point, making snide comments. Making a lot of us feel uncomfortable.

Fantastic views. It is also pet friendly. That is outside part of cafe. On a summer's morning I can't think of anywhere better for breakfast.

Lovely food, friendly staff, a cosy interior... What more could you want? A few times a year, I meet up with two childhood friends, and we do spend quite a while over our meal. Staff at The Doyen didn't seem to mind this at all! Top marks for their welcoming attitude. We ordered the salted chilli squid starter (loved the Asian slaw!), the chicken skewer starter, the fishcakes starter, and for our mains, the nduja mac 'n' cheese. It was all beautifully cooked and delicious!

Saw a few bad reviews but decided to take a chance and glad I did. The food was excellent and the servce too. Will def be back.

Went here to try there new menu 2 main courses and bottle of wine for 40 pounds and it was absolutely fantastic and the service was also very good 👍

We got seated quickly but it took over 20 mins and out own intervention to get a food order. Food arrived within a decent time frame but lacked the quality to match the price tag. Its a good bar, but a less than average restaurant

Ordered beef Sunday dinner which came as two steaks, I didn't realise and wasn't to my liking. No problem at all, was changed to chicken and the entire plate was to die for. Great, friendly service!

Can only speak of having drinks here but it as a handy venue, right beside the train station. Plentiful outdoor seats which are in great shape after a recent refurb. Inside still has a comfy feel. A great setting for a drink or two. Just a shame that aside from train station, it is relatively inaccessible outside of cars.

Over priced and sub par food. A steak sandwich for £20 and only half the bread came out on it. Scundered for me. Staff were good

Great food, great service. Only had soft drink as driving. the refurbishment is lovely. Very handy and free parking. Didn't have to book for lunch, just dropped in. Bit pricey for what we ate, but nowhere else is any better value.

Excellent food, reasonably priced. Attentive and friendly staff. Called in Saturday late afternoon fearing we wouldn't be taken as the place was buzzing however very friendly gentleman showed us to the bar area, restaurant being fully booked. A new menu I believe, we will certainly be back to sample more of the delights on offer.

Refreshingly clean, bright and friendly and just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of South Belfasts busyness and noise. Food excellent with a menu hard to choose from. We'll be back, most definitely. Mags

Used to be a great spot for food and cocktails. Hard to mess up chicken wings and chips but they’ve pulled it off emphatically. The best part is the seasoned fries that lack any seasoning. And to finish you can get better cocktails in Wetherspoons

Great chowder with a wee chilli kick.. Scallops are Amazing.. King prawns Ditto. OMG and the Montes Merlot is to die for, totally loved it...

Owners have made a really good job of the refurb of the old King's Head. Have eaten twice here whilst watching the match, great selection of wines and even a bottled gluten free beer (used to be on tap). Irish Coffees are also good. Good perhaps do with a few more front of house staff.

Doyen Friday eve - staff- lovely, friendly, on the ball staff, efficient service. Would highly recommend. Good snack food. Brilliant staff, management & staff tonight.

Had the lamb and was it was cooked perfect for me, staff are excellent, well worth a visit, I will be back.

Great surroundings and staff and food

We had an exceptional meal here yesterday, I don’t normally write reviews but thought that this place deserved it. I had the pork belly with scallops & it was just superb. My compliments to the chefs & staff & we will most definitely be back in the near future.

Nice setting and good food, wasn't to busy which we liked, but I'm sure that will change now restrictions are lifted. There is a nice range of sitting to choose from.

Nice large spacious bar. Staff were friendly and efficient and in today's climate. Reasonably priced . Loved the old school booths . Very 'The Crown' esque.

Great for drinks, food was OK. Got told off by staff for forgetting to put a mask on when going to the loo when they couldn't wear their's over their nose and having them roll their eyes when clearing the table

Nice place for lunch, dinner or bigger venue. Staff is always polite and well trained. Food is great. Freshly cooked dishes and ingredients are top quality. They serve nice cocktails too.

Nice drinks and atmosphere but could do with some more non alcoholic drinks. Offers wines, cocktails, beers, ciders, spirits etc and a non alcoholic Heineken.

Myself and 3 friends went for lunch today to celebrate a 40th birthday . The staff couldn't have been nicer, letting us put balloons round the table, bringing over a surprise glass of fizzy for the birthday girl when she arrived and later bringing out the birthday cake we had brought.The food was delicious , Thanks again.👏👏

Disappointing menu which looks good at first glance but if you ask for a dish without the sauce it turns out that it is cooked in the sauce and is mixed through. And a chicken burger dies not come as a fillet it comes in a outer cover withe the chicken more as a paste - as explained by the waiter - WHY! As a result of these it means the items on the menu are somewhat limited.

The food here is delicious and the service very friendly.
