Can’t fault the ambiance and decor. The staff are friendly and efficient too. The meal was ok but the sausage and mash was very bland. No flavour at all. The stew was great though

The oldest pub in Belfast allows you to breathe and experience the atmosphere of times gone by for a few hours. The pub on the ground floor is truly typical, dark as it should be but animated by beautiful Victorian windows, full of characteristic private rooms in wood and worked glass (sitting in one of these really feels like being in an episode of Peaky Blinders). Dinner upstairs, dishes I must say were appreciable (even if we were overwhelmed and "wet", with very "survival" expectations, but we absolutely cannot complain about the quality: stew and soup lasted just a short time) even if not abundant and therefore not exactly in the utmost respect of quality-price: certainly the location however makes this aspect more "digestible". To see and "consume"!

Beautiful is an understatement. Eating in a restaurant/pub that was one of the first in Belfast, you can feel it in its interior. We ate inside one of the wooden private rooms; everything has been preserved as it was back in the day, giving you privacy and relaxation. The food was delicious, the service was efficient, and the prices were reasonable. I would definitely go back!

First place went to on arrival in Belfast, as directly across from Central Station. Stood in hallway at entrance, as all cubicles had reserved signs. Worth visiting and no comments made about us taking lots of pictures. Absolutely stunning inside. Definitely worth a visit. Would have liked to walk around and explore more, but it was a busy afternoon. Same with food options. Would have liked to have had more details by server at bar.

Called in speculatively early one weekday evening. Had a wonderful vibe and atmosphere with lots of visitors enjoying an end of the day drink or two. Great to soak up details and take it all in. We managed to find an empty little snug, bar staff working so hard and very pleasant. Would love to visit again.

Ostriche e cozze irlandesi, pies, Irish Lamb Stew, golosissimo Sticky Toffee Pudding.

We were very excited to visit this pub. We came in on a Friday afternoon in 2023 and the barman completely ignored us. The pub was very quiet, I was standing at the bar within direct eyesight of the barman for about 10 minutes. He refused to make eye contact with me and proceeded to ignore me. We ended up leaving feeling ostracised and a bit sad. We didn't have this experience at any of the other pubs we visited during our stay, or to be honest at any other pub we have ever been to. (Didn't leave a review at the time but it has been bothering me)

Prices ok. Didn't think much of the starter. Could tell the food wasn't homemade as such. Pies were ok but the veg wasn't as advertised, menu says glazed Carrots and these were pre bought batons. When we arrived (18:30), 3 of the starters weren't available and 3 things off the main courses.

Very disappointed in this over priced meal. Spent nearly £18 a burger and chips. The burger was supposed to come with onion rings and skin on fries. No onion ring on the burger and the burger itself was so over cooked that I could have bounced it off the walls. No skin on fries either but we're soggy and under cooked. My partner ordered sausages and smash that consisted of 3 sad looking skinny sausages on top of a small bit of champ which was absolutely drowned in gravy. Staff never even asked if we enjoyed our meal and I didn't complain as I was with another party and I didn't want to make a scene. Wouldn't recommend this restaurant. Save your money and eat at home or pick a different venue in many of our amazing restaurants in Belfast!

We had a delicious dinner (no stray hairs noticed!) steak pie and fish and chips with a nice shandy! Andy (the manager) was exceptionally kind and reserved a snug for us since my wife is a wheelchair user and “standing” in a crowded pub was not an option. The disabled toilet was clean and conveniently located on the main floor. Disability Note: main floor is step free and the access to disabled toilet, though a little tight turns, was clean and reserved for disabled users (key behind the bar). Busy active local pub always seems to be quite popular.

We visited here on the recommendation of others. To say we’re disappointed is an understatement. The pub is lovely and full of character, however, the food was absolutely crap. Flavourless slop. I had prawn tempura, it was very clearly some reformed prawns, arrow straight and minuscule in girth, the batter at a factor of 2:1. Most disappointing was the steak and ale pie, devoid of taste or flavour. The staff were excellent and not at fault whatsoever. So sad what these chains do to respected establishments.

This is generally a must visit pub when in Belfast. Owned by the National trust it has an amazing interior of wood, tiles, stained glass and small private drinking booths. The atmosphere is great and friendly and staff all very nice and happy. I have been here many times over the years. Guineas is good. They also offer a range of food including traditional Irish fare. I ordered sausages and champ (mash potatoes with spring onions). It was ok but sausages should be fried, not cooked in the oven as these were. Also my champ lacked taste and where was my well of molten butter that I’m used to if it’s homemade? That said, I’ll always visit here if I’m in Belfast. Check it out.

We have visited befor for drinks , on this occasion we decided to eat. When we first went in we in was tired about food and if we had to book a booth or when one would be available . The person we asked was very polite and said the booths were first come basis which is fair enough but were told there was a restaurant up the stairs we said is it ok to take our drinks up , yes so off we went quite happy . Up the stairs you have to wait till greeted again fairly standard practice so we waited , and waited and waited ! We decided to the enter as nobody was bothering with us , however we were then seen and told to get back and wait ! The manner which we were spoken to was utterly disgusting ! It was not even that busy ! That girl could benfit from a customer service course as she was beyond rude and was actually ignoring us ! However after being told to go back and stand there we decided that we would not leave the premises and take our custom else where . ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING customer service service !!!

I went here last Tuesday night at about 10.15. It was almost empty and had no atmosphere. I was served by a charmless barman who only spoke to tell me the cost. £9.50 for a Guinness and a tonic water! The Guinness was poured too quickly and slopped over the edge of the glass. I didn't bother to finish it, even at that price. We've been several times over the years and it was usually ok. It's changed. Perhaps too many tourists so no need to be welcoming or hospitable, just keep taking the money at extortionate prices. It is the last time.
