Just a couple of drinks, great service

Ordered a fillet steak MEDIUM, it was still kicking when it finally arrived. Sent it back, arrived 10 minutes later the same. Ended up giving it to my husband. Clearly doesn’t matter how you want your steak cooked, chef cooks how he wants to cook steak. Would not recommend to my worst enemy. Disappointed to say the least.

I rarely leave reviews, but unfortunately, I feel compelled to share my experience. We chose Bar and Block to celebrate mine and my sister's birthday, booking in advance for a party of 20. The booking process was smooth, we were able to book 2 tables for 12 and for 8 people. However, the day before our reservation, we received a rude and abrupt call informing us that our group would be split across the restaurant, with one seating at 5 PM and the other no earlier than 5:15 PM. We were happy enough with this but we felt the tone and attitude down the phone was concerning. When we arrived, the restaurant was barely a fifth full, with plenty of empty tables. Some of our guests were running a bit late, and at 5:10 PM we were told that if they didn’t arrive by 5:15 PM, we’d lose the second table—despite being told beforehand that 5:15 was the expected arrival time. This added unnecessary stress, but we remained flexible and decided to fit around one table, as a few guests couldn’t make it. Incredibly, the table we were pressured into forfeiting remained empty the entire time we were there, as did several others around it. Once seated, we were repeatedly told we were “extremely late,” even though we were not. This created a tense and uncomfortable atmosphere. The service was chaotic, with drinks taking 45 minutes to an hour when ordered from the bar, and around 30 minutes when ordered at the table - on two occasions drinks were not written down and therefore never came. Throughout our time there we had one particular waiter that just treated us as though we were a completely inconvenience. By 7:20 PM, we were told we would need to vacate our table by 7:30 PM—even though the restaurant was still half empty. However, given the stressful service, we were ready to leave by then anyway. The final blow was when we were told the entire £450 bill had to be paid on one card, with no option to split the payment even between a few cards, which is ridiculous for a large group. We sorted this by transferring to one card before payment - but we were rushed with this. It's unfortunate because the food and cocktails were genuinely good, but the poor service overshadowed the entire experience. It’s evident the staff were under a lot of pressure, but that does not excuse the lack of basic customer service. As a group of 15, we spent a considerable amount of money, yet left feeling undervalued and frustrated. It was everyone’s first time there, and unfortunately, none of us will be returning. If you can’t cater for a large group then don’t take large group bookings.

Walked in at 8.15pm on a Sunday night, ignored for 5 mins until we went to the bar and were told "there's no food available". This was a very strange thing to hear while diners a few feet away were enjoying their dinners. We asked what it meant and we were told "it's far too late", as if we were the ones at fault for wanting to eat at 8.15pm??? At least if we were told the kitchen was closed with a smile we might have accepted that but it was a very bizarre interaction and quite rude, will not be back

Food excellent and service excellent. Great atmosphere & selection of food & drinks. Steaks were very well prepared & nice variety of other choices. Puddings great as well

One of the best steaks Iv had in a long time! Meal was amazing and the 2 for 1 cocktails went down a treat, such good value for money and they were gorgeous. Will definitely be returning in the near future.

Arrived for our Friday evening booking to be told the chef hadn't turned up and the kitchen was closed. Damn. I get that happens sometimes but it's how you deal with that is key. We were just told, "Sorry about that". But y'know, it would have been nice to be offered a free drink for our trouble at now having to go elsewhere and hoping the better places had an available table. Don't simply dismiss 1st time customers with a shrug and "Sorry".

Had a booking for 6 people last night for 6:45, called the day before to confirm and slightly change the time - no issues at all, staff were very accommodating. Fast forward to yesterday, I miss a call from the restaurant and call back immediately with no answer , I then check the booking link and confirm the table again thinking the call was to do same. We then arrive on time for our booking to be told by management that they have no chef and will not be serving food today, I asked the lady why I hadn’t received a voicemail or even an email to notify us and was told she had 120 people to call and didn’t have time. Poor management of the situation, an email or even text to the customers for that day would have avoided a unnecessary trip.

Food was outstanding! Chloe was our waitress and didn't miss a beat! Ask for her!!! Beef short rib burger and pepper sauce was 10/10

I had high expectations of Bar+block and was really looking forward to the lunch I booked for my cousin, friend and our 3 children. I was quite disappointed the front of desk (man) was not very welcoming there was a girl beside him that rolled her eyes when I said we had one more adult and child. The place was empty only two tables occupied I really feel the customer service could have been alot better and this is before we were seated. Our sever was lovely however was taking orders and trying to run the bar at the same time that caused a few errors with our order. I never leave reviews however I feel this is needed bar and block looks amazing but really need to look at there customer service at front of house and how they distribute the food especially when children are there I am sorry this is negative but hope you can improve on this.

Had a lovely breakfast this morning after a stay at the adjoining Premier Inn. Magda was attentive and engaging and the food was lovely. Managed to clear work at the same time which was a bonus as the WiFi worked better than the hotel. Great place to have a slow breakfast whilst working.

First time @bar +block , beautiful restaurant, lovely atmosphere ,top service by the beautiful kamille warm friendly beautiful manor !!!,food was amazing, compliments to the chief !!!! Highly recommended,will definitely be back x

The service here sucked. I showed up to an empty restaurant around 8 PM on a Sunday and was asked if I had a reservation, when I said no the host told me I had to wait 30 minutes despite the restaurant being virtually empty. I decided to grab a drink from the bar while I waited. The bar was covered in empty glasses and unfinished drinks (see pictures) that blocked access to the credit card reader, which the bartender just pushed to the side so I could insert my credit card. The empty tables in the bar area were also occupied by abandoned drinks and empty glasses and all the tables were dirty. My drink was made incorrectly and tasted a little off like the glass I was given hadn't been properly cleaned. While I waited I watched 2 couples walk in a few minutes after me (also without a reservation) and were seated immediately. Cool. After waiting the required 30 minutes to be seated I ordered the ribeye with a side of mac and cheese. The ribeye was fine and tasted good the mac and cheese was bland and lukewarm. Staff were rude and acted like they didn't want to serve me. Not sure if the management sucks, if they were short staffed, or what was going on but it was a very poor experience and not worth the price.

Great breakfast with lovely sausages and scrambled eggs, thanks to Dami, the chef.I was served by Hagola, who was really nice and friendly.

Food was not cooked to order!!! well done should not be medium rare!! Very Disappointing !!!

Food was poor quality, burger tasted bland but the chips was alright. There was several flies in the vinegar which was replaced quickly but the server didn't seem surprised. Next evening I got food poisoning

This place was a stop on our way back to our hotel after an afternoon of shopping. The gentleman that greeted us was not the pleasant verging on rude which turned out to be the only downside to this place! Debra our server was amazing making sure our allergy was taken care of as were we. Though Ireland is typically a place were tipping is not observed we felt the need to make sure Debra was left with a small extra. The food was excellent, hot, delicious and cooked to perfection. We had a the scallops, sirloin, a chateaubriand for 2 and a brisket burger, pluse an eton mess and a churro desserts. Highly recommend!!!! Only got photos of dessert as we were too busy eating to remember to take photos of our food!! Lol

We had a lovely afternoon at the Bar + Block. Darren was so attentive and polite. Definitely we will come back.

Well folks what can we say my friend and I came to the bar and block for the first time to be welcomed by kris who was absolutely amazing his style and banter made us feel so relaxed and important. It was my best friends birthday and when I told him he presented her with her favourite cocktail which made her feel special.Then the amazing Darren came on at 4 and took over from Kris The food was amazing and the cocktails even better lol . We would highly recommend this place so please come and try this place out Alberta and Margaret thank u for a lovely day 😀🍷🍾🎂we will be back x x

Great location and what a menu choice , Marty our guy was phenomenal and he is the reason I would return , 1st class service and great craic , also big thanks to door staff who let the wife use the toilet after we left and walked back thank you all 🍻

Excellent location. Great nights sleep, fantastic food. Great breakfasts and service from Magda, and from chef Patric, was terrific. Wide choice of drinks and the evening cocktails were great value. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Belfast.

Really loved this Premier Inn. The rooms are modern and well furnished. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom had a lovely ultra violet lighting and very clean. Staff very friendly especially Magda at breakfast. The location is absolutely brilliant right in the heart of Belfast Close to some fantastic pubs...I will definitely book this hotel again

Wonderful service, really pleasant experience! Darren was very attentive and was able to seat us at short notice and very promptly. I would most certainly return again. Food was absolutely delicious- highly recommend the chicken souvlaki!

I want to be clear that my score is based on the Breakfast service or lack of. This bar is attached to the Premier Inn and therefore is used for the Meal Deals. The evening meal choice is quite limited but the food is very nice and the service was lovely. I was running late on my first day and the waitress was really helpful and grabbed me a box to pop my breakfast sandwich in. My issue was with the Manager this morning, who's staff kept us waiting in line sorting out various issues for nearly 15 mins, which in turn made time very limited for my Taxi collection. So when I asked for a take away box to do exactly what I had done the day before, it was flatly refused and I was told it was against policy. I explained that it was possible the day before, but was told that he would speak to the staff as it is not an option (sorry if I got someone in trouble!). I then had to go back to reception to get a refund and to leave hungry, knowing I would not get a chance to grab anything till my flight around 4pm. I would like to mention that the Premier Inn Manager really did try to resolve this for me, but the Bar+Block Manager was having none of it and really was lacking and his Customer Service skills this morning.

A quiet place, the food is very delicious, the music is relaxing. The price is affordable and the quality is excellent. The waiter service is amazing too and I especially want to thank Magda for her hospitality and kindness. She is always taking care of the clients. Thank you ! I will be back.

The food was great. And they had vegetarian options. The hostess asked us right away if there were any allergies which was nice. Our server Saj was professional and friendly. It was busy so the only way to get in was a reservation. And because of that it was loud and difficult to hear. It also took a bit longer to get our food but that is to be expected with how busy they were. But Saj checked in on us and we enjoyed our time there and the food. Prices were good.

I went here for my daughters 15th birthday, the staff were lovely, and the atmosphere and mocktails really nice ,but the food was such a let down for the price. Some of our starters arrived burnt, my sisters meal was awful just full of tasteless sausages of different sizes which tasted awful and my nephews burger I can't explain what went wrong there for a beef brisket burger. I'm really disappointed as I really like this place.

Had a grilled chicken platter. Darren was friendly and extended a great service. Nice atmosphere with plenty of space.

Booked a table for 3 adults and a child for 7.45 upon arrival we wer ether told children had to be out for 9pm which was fine if we actually served on time our drinks took 20 mins and food arrive at our table at 8.40 leaving us 20 mins to eat our meal.... at 9.15 a stewardess came ro our table (one member still finishing her meal) and said oh he was meant to be out at 9pm. No where does it state online no kids In the restaurant after 9pm at all... the booking could have been cancelled had we known an I would have spent my money elsewhere we couldn't couldn't have a desert and finish our drinks as we're made to feel like we had to leave immediately... safe to say extremely disappointed.... FOOD WAS AMAZING THOUGH would have loved desert and cocktails but as above wasn't able to.

Came here on Monday close to afternoon. Looking for lunch in Northern Ireland is always a challenge cause a lot of the places aren’t usually open. However, running into this joint was a pleasant surprise. The food was great and their loaded fries blew my mind. Great way to go above and beyond. The host is friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend!

Great food, steak cooked to perfection, generous cocktails and divine desserts. Claud looked after us and was very friendly and helpful, one of the best waiters we have encountered in any restaurant. We will be back on our next trip.

I called with my wife for lunch. There were loads of free seats and the waitress turned us away stating she was on her own and was unable to cope unless we had pre booked. Disappointing as it had been one of our favourite places to eat when visiting Belfast.

Came for the 2 for 1 cocktail promotion. Perfect service from our server Kamille. Food was delicious, decent portion size at a good price. Will definitely be back again.

Pretty familiar story looking at the other revues - booked table for 10 at 6.45 Orders taken ,long wait for drinks food arrived in dribs and drabs . The size of the 14oz "spiral" was a joke so one of our party discretety asked to have a word - away from the table to be as polite as possible and was just dismissed as a whinging customer (steak was £40 ) Once all mains had arrived we had to remind them of an order of prawns which didn't arrive and upon checking the menu found several items missing from the plates of food - onion rings for instance .prawns arrived when we'd finished eating . Bill was £450 Asked to politely speak to the manager about our service missing food etc ... Little miss angry marched out crossed out the prawns and asked us to leave - at no point did we ask for a discount or refused to pay etc. Again we politely attempted to communicate our disappointment we were told we where being confrontational and told to leave - we asked for the managers name as a result of her attitude she refused point blank - AVOID THE PLACE FOLKS IF MANGERS ARE PREPARED TO TALK TO CUSTOMERS LIKE THIS ITS NO SURPRISE ITS A RECURRING ISSUE . the restaurant is a nice place it's a shame their staff training isn't as well prepared.

Extremely slow service causing us to miss the start of a movie reservation. Staff yelling at each other between the kitchen and front of restaurant. 90 minutes from sitting to bill easily. Seemed extremely short staffed. Skipped desert despite being included in the meal deal. Lamb was very gamey.

Loved the food, really good food ,fresh and tasty ,the place is beautiful but service is very slow and not the most friendly, specially the one at the door.we had a nice waiter at the beginning , but when she was gone it was difficult to get someone to order dessert and more water. The price is good too for the quality.

The worst experience I've ever had, waitress attending my table could barely understand English, Bar staff very rude & unhelpful, couldn't get out quick enough but had to wait 15mins for the bill after asking.. No wonder this place is always empty! lovely surroundings & under the right management it would be a top notch restaurant

Went here for dinner on Saturday night arrived early so decided to sit in the bar area while waiting on table. Waited at the bar for a good thirty minutes and didn’t get served ened up just giving up which was a shame because the cocktails did look lovely. Bar staff not having any real system for serving drinks. When we got to our table the service was so slow thank god for the brown haired girl with the glasses if not for her we would of never got anything! Food was alright definitely not as good as what you’re paying for overpriced for a tiny string of steak!! Place is too busy for the staff to keep up with on both the bar and restaurant. Which is a shame because this place used to be so good now it’s just went to the dogs!!

Went here tonight waitied over 20 minutes at the bar for someone to acknowledge me all the people that came after me severed quickly and i was just over looked bar staff running back and forth like headless chickens not good enough ened up just leaving wont be back ever

Came for dinner, didn’t get the warmest welcome from a lady when we first arrived. She told us the chef was on break, didn’t say we were welcome to wait or have a drink etc. We asked could we stay and wait and she abruptly said ok. However our server Claud was wonderful and extremely friendly. Big Ups to Claud. The food was ok, nothing to write home about. If you’re looking for a good steak dinner I think you may find that somewhere else.

Don't miss the 2-for-1 cocktails before 8 ! Grabbed a couple drinks and had a fine feed here - the burger was great, and a few of the bys I was with had the 3 steak sampler and thought it was great. Service was great, we were well attended to. Upbeat atmosphere. Will be back again for sure.

First visit to bar + block.. definitely going to make it a regular occurrence. Staff were lovely especially Laura our waitress who made sure we had everything we needed. Food was lovely - I especially liked my steak sampler.. Also the restaurant wasn’t too loud so it was easy to enjoy a conversation with your meal.

Great breakfast spot attached to the premier inn Cathedral Quarter. Really good location, very central to other great pubs and restaurants. Really friendly staff on hand to help out, Magda being there in the morning I was there. Brilliant place for breakfast!

Superb spot for excellent quality and great value breakfast (£9.99 for everything). Special shout out to the wonderful waitress Magda who was so incredibly welcoming and helpful (even giving me a guidebook for Belfast!). Plus also Patryk the chef. Lovely surroundings also.

My husband and I have been severely sick within 24 hours of eating in this place. It is the only meal we had together within 2 days so the source of the illness was most certainly from this establishment. Took over 40mins to receive drinks, another 30min to receive main which was certainly the smallest cut of beef i ever did see. A tiny tub of peppered sauce, similar size as a fillable McDonald's dip, which was to be shared between 2. Overall, I'm thankful for the small portions as could only imagine how much more ill we would be if the food was of anyway decent portions. Must state, if the hygiene of the ladies toilets were anything to go by, this place is a dirty hole. Every single cubicle in the ladies had not been flushed or cleaned, I checked the record sheet which hadn't been filled out all day. Had to leave and go to the disabled toilets. Avoid at all cost

The highlights: terrible service, food not cooked as ordered, decent ambience. The details: arrived at 7:45, bartender greeted us and had to ask manager if could seat 2 people on a Monday in a mostly empty place. Had previously confirmed kitchen closed at 10. Ordered cocktails and food quickly. Waitress walked away while we were still placing the order, had to request her to return. Appetizer arrived timely. Prawn appetizer was overcooked and cocktails arrived later. Cocktails were done well and enjoyable. Meal took very long time to arrive. After some time, flagged down waitress to order wine to enjoy when meal arrived. Food was brought over right away after wine order placed. Fish platter was less than expected. Medium rare steak fillet cooked medium/well. The house sauce was essentially A1 and ruined the flavor of the steak. Meat itself was tender but too cooked. The wine was never delivered. Waitress never refilled water. She didn't once ask about it food. Empty glasses and plates were left on the table the entire meal. We eventually picked up the leftover water pitcher from nearby table as no one was in sight to request more water. Ate meal with no beverage. Spouse asked for check and cancelled wine order as it had never arrived. She stated it was coming, we said we were essentially done with our food and no longer wanted it. Waited and she did not return with check. Went to the bar to pay. Waitress saw him and made no acknowledgement. He eventually got her attention (she was not busy) and reminded that we requested to pay. The wine was sitting on the bar. Paid 90 pounds for poor service, poor food, and a poor evening.

I had steak, chips and garlic mushrooms. The food was decent but I ordered a glass of wine to have with my food, and it didn't turn up until I'd finished eating despite asking my server where it was. They were busy but this is really not acceptable.

The service was amazing and the staff were friendly. Steaks were juicy and cooked to liking, will definitely be back.

Arrived for a boozy brunch and the service was great, moved to the bar afterwards where the service was questionable. For our first order at the bar we stood waiting for 20 minutes whilst others around us were served. Second order we stood waiting again and the girl with blonde money piece hair got the order wrong and when questioned over it gave us terrible attitude, extremely rude and charged us twice. Drinks were watery, awful service, extremely unhappy.

I went in for lunch with a friend to catch up and was really impressed with how the place looked right away, We were greeted by Lynsey at the host stand and she couldn’t have been nicer to us. She explained everything with the menu and a few deals they had on and sat us to our table and shortly after was introduced to Darren who would be looking after us that day. I had the open club sandwich that tased amazing and a few beers went down very well :). My friend had the steak sandwich he also didn’t say a word when he took the first bite until he finished it and also enjoyed a few beers. To say the least we will definitely be back ASAP.

We came for our anniversary dinner. We were not disappointed, the food was amazing and the service was top notch. The servers could not be anymore attentive making sure we had everything we needed. The 2 for 1 cocktails are definitely worth a try especially the pop star martini it is to die for. We will definitely be back.

Magola & Patryk were brilliant at breakfast. Was here for 5 nights and they were there to greet us every morning with a smile The staff in the hotel joining the restaurant couldn’t do enough for us, all remembered names etc and nothing was too much trouble for them all. Great place to stay and great location

Absolutely disgusted since this place has been taken over. Had the 2 course offer with Premier inn, never got my second course after waiting nearly an hour and half my party leaving. Bathrooms had a cigarette butt in the sink and staff did nothing when it was reported. The food i did get was terrible, the steak was dry and the garlic potatoes had no garlic
