Excellent great food great service great place very pleasant staff only negative was a long wait for food would definitely go back.

Food was ok but waited nearly an hour and a half for it to arrive. Decor was very dated and mould in the toilets.

Taking into account it was a Monday it was quiet . The man in charge was very attentive and when I explained about the chicken tikka that I like he knew exactly what I wanted and it was perfect . It’s such a pity we were on holiday but if I lived locally I would be a regular.

Worst indian meal I have ever had. Thought i'd treat my wife and my mum based on what i'd been told by other people. Very disappointed. Mixed kebab starters, dry chicken, chewy lamb and tasteless kofte. Tikka Masala tasted of nothing except coconut, prawn korma tasted the same except was yellow in colour and not red like the tikka. Tandoori half chicken just tasted of the virtually raw onions it was served on and the vegetable curry was watery and almost like it had been quickly defrosted in a microwave before being served. Most of it was left on the table and we didnt take the left overs home as it was that bad. Service wasn't the best, just seemed rushed. There are far better indian restaurants in the area, one of them is called Titash and is a minutes walk away from here. First and last time we will come here.

Bloody beautiful. We havent been here before and kept it simple ordering a chicken and a lamb korma rice and naan and it was all cooked and seasoned to perfection. I WILL be back in the very near future. Thank you for such a joyous meal.

The food was good. It was tasty and served sizzling hot. Presentation and enjoyment would have been better with a larger table - dishes were stacked! Service was friendly, but there was little engagement, and I waited several minutes to get the bill. Decoration is a little sterile, and the tiled floor doesn't help the atmosphere.

We tried this restaurant for the first time to get a takeaway, having only moved to the area a few months ago. The food was really good, and they were happy to do a vegetable version of one of the dishes for us. Generous portions and tasty sauces. We'll definitely be back and very pleased to have found a good local Indian takeaway/restaurant,

I had never been to this place and my partner hadn't been for some 8 years,but he always spoke highly of it and the owner Amoah sorry if spelt wrong.I am normally a very plain eater but asked if they could do me a small sample portion of chicken tikka passanda.They were perfectly accommodating to my request.I thoroughly enjoyed it and all the food we had was out of this world,fantastic quality and and the service was outstanding.Gary/Gaz was so glad he got to see you Amoah and for me it was a pleasure to finally meet you.It's simply fantastic to know the quality of your food is as good now as it's always been and to still have the same chef since you began 28 years ago is some accolade.We will definitely come and see you again and bring our friends 🧡

The best tandoori restaurant around here first class food and service

We went for a family meal as there is nothing more my son enjoys than a good curry. He had the madras and wants to try a spicier one next time. I had the korma as i can’t cope with the heat. My husband had the tikka which was very nice. Excellent food and service. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The service was very swift service and the food was very tasty.

I haven't been to downham tandoori for a while and iam afraid I won't be back. Tandoori chicken did not taste freshly cooked, dry, hard and seemed reheated. Prices are very high as well. I'll go back to the titash.

Another excellent meal (as usual), staff were very attentive and helpful with nothing being too much trouble. We have always been made very welcome every time we have visited the restaurant; today when we came for a meal they adapted my wifes Vegetable Madras to not be so spicy and more to her personal taste (talk about customer service and satisfaction!)

Amazing food but the tables are far too close together, we were a party of ten who were seated along the back wall and our chairs were literally touching the wall, to say we were cramped was an understatement, once everyone was seated the people sat next to the wall had no chance of moving from the table unless the person next to you had to move from the table first to let you out ! Wouldn't book for a group again, far too many tables in such a small area.

Came for my birthday as we heard god reviews BUT it was ruined! The food was so BLAND. No flavours or taste - EVERYTHING TASTED THE SAME - BORING! It was like eating in an office, with no authenticity. Not a professional service and we wouldn't recommended to anyone. It's NOT the best in Norfolk as they are making out to be. We love our Indian food but this was a BIG AVOID!!! Very disappointing and male staff was unprofessional

Booked a table for 8pm arrived at 19:50 was greeted and told there wasn’t a table ready and to take a seat by the window. Around 20:15 a couple walked in and asked if there was any available tables to be told no sorry we are fully booked…..until a young waitress called them through the restaurant to be seated! I questioned what was going on as I had a table booked for 20:00 and was still waiting….the girl behind the bar just shrugged her shoulders! Clearly customer service is second to none here! I hope you get infested with Rats!!

We visited on a Tuesday which meant the mid-week menu was available. For £15.95 you get a starter, main, rice and a naan. The portion sizes are exactly the same as the full menu and of course the quality is top notch as usual. If anyone is looking for a great Indian restaurant this is the place to go!

Warmly welcomed as we arrived for Sunday Curry lunch. Ample choice of window sunlit seating, but chose shade. Table napery and coverings. Place is spotlessly clean. Excellent full food menu and separate drinks menu. Attentive friendly service. We left full and satisfied with visit. Highly recommended and will return.

First time I went there was 8 years ago. The food was amazing, the service impeccable. Went again last Saturday. Food was even better than I remembered, but the service was still amazing.

For an award winning restaurant (in the past), this was a disappointing night out. One of the dishes would have never turned up had it not been mentioned, and another one had a long hair curled up on top of it. There was no mention of any discount or even an apology. When I said it to the waiter who delivered the bill, he just laughed…. The dishes that were delivered appropriately were mostly sauce (buckets of it!) The decor is tired and dated; and the lighting unpleasant. Too bright and white. The only positive I took was that service was fast. Won’t be going back any time soon I’m afraid.

Ordered takeaway over phone & was told 35/40 minutes to collect, so turned up after 35 minutes and paid & was told would be about 5 minutes wait. Had to wait another 25 minutes for my order & then got home only to discover part of order was missing, as order was already late the order should have been checked properly by staff before handover. Very disappointing service won’t be rushing back. Spoilt family meal with having to return to get missing food as other meals were cold by then .

Very disappointed, I rarely give poor reviews, this is an exception 🙁 The prices in the restaurant were around %15 higher than those published on their website. Good service initially, then when all the mains were served, I had to ask twice and wait 5 minutes for my side dishes to arrive. The service was slow and no one checked to see how our food was - it was not good. My chicken Zal Zul (Madras Hot), was like a Chinese sweet and sour - when I complained about the total lack of chilli heat, I was told I "oh, it's not hot at all - you should ask me if you want it hot, then I'll tell Chef." Guess what, no one asked me when I ordered it. The table was never cleared, we had to sit for the last 15 minutes with the evenings beer bottles and unfinished food sitting in front of us. Having spent around £80 we felt let down. I think we'll try the smarted looking one, a few doors down next time.

We dropped in for a family meal after a busy day out, myself, my husband and our 12 year old daughter. The restaurant is actually split into a number of sections between the different buildings, so even though there were other larger tables than we three, we did not feel like it was over noisy or that we were in the way like you can sometimes as a smaller group in a busy restaurant. It wasnt packed (being a Monday night) but there were quite a few large tables in. We got seated in what I'd call a family section where it was nice and quiet, and easy to have a normal conversation. Great 80s power ballards being played at a decent volume to enjoy but not overwhelm conversation either! The restaurant is disability friendly too, with a nice large disabled loo in the ladies. And also a great ramp with a gentle incline rather than steps between our section of the restaurant and the next. We had a fantastic meal with a selection of curries and sides that we all really enjoyed (my daughter's choice of butter chicken and the crisp onion bhajis were especially enjoyed by all of us!) Our waiter, Latif, was fantastic. Not only was he really attentive, bringing food out quickly after tidying up the prior course, on his trolly rather than risking dropping hot plates, which we thought was great! But he was engaging, telling us stories, and kind and attentive to our daughter, who happens to be autistic and struggles to talk to strangers. He spoke to her kindly and told her funny stories, drawing her into the conversation too, and she actually tried more of the different dishes (and enjoyed more!) than she has done in other restaurants! So thank you Latif for making our family meal more chilled and even more enjoyable than usual! Make sure you tip well, because Latif and all the staff thoroughly deserve it! My wife, daughter and I chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday because of the huge reputation it has in the local area. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent and the service outstanding. What really stood out was the warm welcome we were given by all the staff. Thank you for a great evening - you deserve the high reputation you have obviously worked hard to achieve.

First time we’ve been here as my wife and I are new to the area, and I must say ***FANTASTIC*** The service was really good and the polite English girl was really efficient with our requests. All the other waiters / servers were very welcoming and personable. The food was great, and although I expected the Chicken Madras to have a fiery kick, the owner advised that they cook all their hotter dishes “one notch down” so the customer gets more flavour, which inevitably turned out to be true - Thank you to all and see you soon :)

New to Downham Market I've just had a takeaway from this restaurant. Onion Bhajies nearly black on the outside, raw in the middle. Probably straight from freezer to too hot oil. Inedible. The chicken in the balti was overcooked or recooked to the texture of wood. Sauces hot and harsh the dansak had no hint of sweetness. Guess there isnt much competition in DM. Don't recommend this restaurant to anybody. If it's lunch you want goto Greggs.

This Restaurant is probably the Best Indian in the World. I have been numerous times with many friends and we have been absolutely amazed at the quality, taste, authenticity of the food and even the drink. So so welcoming and friendly. We have tried various dishes and they have been perfectly superb. Thank you for a Wonderful experience. This is the only Indian Restaurant I would visit within a 50 mile radius as all the other which I have tried are poor in comparison. Mega highly recommended and super low price 🤩😋☺️

Food was excellent with good service, room was a bit on the cold side. Well worth the visit.

Friendly but inexperienced staff. That wasn't a problem because everyone has to start somewhere and they really were all friendly, but passing hot plates down a table from the end rather than coming around the side it was a bit off. But we came for the food and because of the high ratings expected great things. I was really surprised how bland it was. It wasn't bad and was all cooked well, but there was hardly any flavour. I am fairly new to Norfolk and the only comparison I have in the area is a takeaway we had from Brandon Tandoori but their food is on a completely different level. Maybe the chef was having an off day.

Got a takeaway for 10 from this restaurant. The guy on the phone was very friendly and this was backed up with a wonderful welcome into the restaurant when we picked up our order as well as free drinks whilst we waited (though this wasn't long!). The food was reasonably priced, worked out to about £20 a head for starters, curry, naan and rice each so very reasonable. Quality and taste wise the food was terrific, authentic and very good all round. Brilliant meal, friendly and quick service, good price, will be returning I hope!

Nice place and fantastic staff, but the meal I had, Salmon Bhuna, was absolutely awful. It was incredibly bland with almost no flavour. The only resemblance of flavour was a unpalatable mixture of onion and garlic. Out of hundreds of different Indian meals I've had around the world, it is not an exaggeration to say this is the only Indian meal I've ever disliked and I disliked it greatly. Total waste of £20 and I couldn't leave fast enough.

I have been eating here for 10 years but the service and staff attitude is atrocious tried to explain to member of staff and he just laughed in my face like quite a few of people I have spoken to I won’t be eating here again. Time to eat at the Tikash

Post Christmas meal at the Indian - food was excellent as always, but it was actually cold in our room as commented by at least 3 tables. From ordering to receiving food almost a hour with no explanation as to delay (we overheard it was due to a power cut on way out) it's always good to communicate with diners when there's a problem.

Appalling ! Table booked for 1930 , after a 20 minute wait we were shown to our table. We ordered our mains , which we still didn't have by 2040, we were told that the delay was because " they were busy " . Tables were left uncleared , staff didn't seem to know what they were doing. The only person who acknowledged our presence ( wish i had asked her name ) was very embarrassed by the whole situation and was very understanding as we finally left just after 2100. Had to give one star as there is no option for a MINUS score. Needless to say we won't be going back !

Sadly I was ignored from the moment I sent a Google chat requesting to book a table which states "typically responds in an hour", so made a telephone reservation following day. My party of 4 were left standing outside for at least 10 mins due to the front area of restaurant being full of people waiting, partly for their takeaways & others to be seated (good job it wasn't raining, otherwise we would have left at that point). We finally managed to squeeze into the front area, again no acknowledgement or apology for the delay. Eventually being seated, no offer of a menu or order for drinks. After sitting waiting for 20 minutes, watching one staff member laying a table and then attending to another table of people who had been seated after us we decided to leave to celebrate my friend's birthday elsewhere. We were again ignored on leaving, passing a member of staff who just stared at us, and further staff at the front desk, including the man that seated us, who made no attempt to make an apology or ask why we were leaving! We do understand restaurants can have times of being understaffed, but (a) why did you take our booking if you could not accommodate us, (b) we would have been perfectly happy if it had been explained on arrival that you were super busy but would get to us ASAP and at least offer a complimentary drink while waiting. On the basis of experience received here I cannot offer even one star, and obviously will not be returning.

Prices have gone up but only a little. Nice menu, still cheaper than most curry restaurants. Nice friendly staff, excellent food.

This is the third time eating here whilst visiting Woodlakes Park and although in Downham Market itself there isn’t much choice when it comes to restaurants, this traditional tandoori always delivers. Nothing is over seasoned and all the dishes ordered were fresh and tasty. The heat balance was good and even on dishes that said hot and spicy they were not too hot. Overall a good meal and reasonably priced, would recommend. I do however wonder why the owners have never replied since I posted this review some time ago?

Arrived at 1:20pm, Sunday lunchtime, and we were the only customers in the restaurant and it was eerily quiet. We ordered a couple of popadums each, they arrived with diced salad, that lime pickle no one likes, and some gloopy syrupy stuff. No raita, which...

I have been using the Downham Tandoori on a regular basis since it opened 20 years ago and last night will probably be the last as we are moving to Spain. We are going to miss the food and the staff which compliment each other...

Really unpleasant evening from the ambience to the food and drinks. The restaurant is very brightly lit, the table that we were sat at had splats of something all up the wall. Decor is very cold and uninviting so coupled with the bright lights, really...

Lovely dining experience the owner was incredibly friendly and even allowed one of our guests to sample.one of his own naga chilli's enhancing the flavour of his meal . I would recommend this place to anyone in the local area the money you pay is definitely worth it . Portion size was large and I am left stuffed. I will be going again
