Nice little place with great food. Huge plates for a reasonable price and also a good few pubs around the area also but don't do food .

Beware the checkin time is until 10pm. We arrived 11pm (we know we were pretty late as we had a 4 hour drive already) and saw the door was closed, and no lights form inside. Then we just checked our booking email and realised the checkin time is til 10pm. We also tried to call them but in vain. I know it is not their faulty. But I was a bit surprise that a small run business (maybe a family run?) is not care about "late or no show" customer. In my past experience, the staff or host will call the customer if they are no show. Just ensure whether they are coming or even if they get lose somewhere.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this charming pub, and I can't sing its praises enough! From the moment we walked in, the warm ambiance and friendly staff set the tone for a fantastic experience. The food was simply outstanding! Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor, and the presentation was impeccable. Whether you're craving classic pub fare or something more adventurous, their menu has something to satisfy every palate well done Paul! What truly sets this establishment apart, though, is the impeccable service. The staff went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed, from recommendations on the menu to prompt and attentive service throughout our meal. Additionally, the fact that they offer accommodation makes this pub an ideal destination for travelers looking for a cozy place to stay. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and tastefully decorated, providing a perfect retreat after a delicious meal and a few pints. Overall, I can't recommend this pub highly enough. Whether you're a local looking for a great meal or a traveler in need of a welcoming place to stay, this gem of a pub is sure to exceed your expectations!

Lovely welcome shown to our room. Unfortunately the bed was so uncomfortable and the bathroom shower head wasn't the cleanest could do with new shower heads. I have come away from this hotel with awful back pain due to uncomfortable sleep as I felt every spring in my back 🙃. I would recommend to invest in decent mattresses. Overall lovely Location just the bed and the room not overly clean this is why I rated here 3 stars

Excellent meal of scampi and chips. Food was beautifully prepared, and portion sizes were generous. Staff came over as genuinely kind and helpful!

What a delight to stay at the Downe Arms again. This pub contains the true spirit of Snaith with it’s history. It was great to see how popular it is for both drinking and eating with the locals, a very good sign. The steak and ale pie was chock full of steak , generous serving of chips and mushy peas and a most wonderful, flavoursome gravy. I ordered the fried cod and had no hope of finishing the sumptuous serving of fish and what appear to be hand cut chips. The baked Camembert with fruit chutney and bread was huge and really tasty. When in Snaith, do yourself a favour and dine at the Downe Arms.

Everyone lovely and helpful, however rooms are tired and bathroom shower screen and bathroom generally grubby. My biggest issue was the bed. It was painful to sleep on. Definitely in need of a new mattress.

My husband and i had the pleasure of staying at The Downe Arms when we were let down at the last minute. The room was excellent and exactly what we needed. We had our evening meal in the pub and it was absolutely awesome. Steak and onion baguette wow it was the best i have had in a long time. The portion was substantial, the chips homemade and very tasty. The staff were all friendly and most helpful. I would recommend staying there anytime

Visit here most weekends. Food is great . Service is great . Great atmosphere. Very welcoming. Great as well as kids are welcome , and nothing is an issue for them. Beer is great and its great that the land lord has good knowledge about beer. By far best pub aroud. Will continue to go there. Better than the others in the town.

Very good value for Sunday lunch, have been several times and always been really nice. Plenty of vegetables and usually a choice of at least 3 meats. Don’t know what the puddings are like as always been too full.

Arrived very late, 11.15pm, at The Downe Arms on the first leg of the TPT. Staff had a curry waiting for us still and it tasted great. Rooms were clean and tidy, breakfast top notch. The next day through injury and bike issues I couldn't continue so I was going to get a taxi to Selby for train journey back to Manchester. Steve wouldn't hear of it and took me to the station himself. Legend. Lovely owners, they deserve the business!!!

Was at the Downe today for lunch with a friend and I have been feeling queasy all day! We were the only people eating and I'm not surprised, in the slightest, that anyone who lives nearby or knows would avoid the place! I ordered the fish and chips and could tell from the second it arrived it was not going to be an enjoyable experience. The fish was thin and insipid looking with a partial covering of soggy batter and the tiny portion of chips didn't look any better. The eating was as expected. Wet fish, undercooked batter, even the chips were not cooked through. Most of the food stayed on the plate and I've felt sick in my stomach for the rest of the day. Could talk about the rest of the experience but there were no saving graces. Just don't go.

I booked The Downe Arms for a business trip via a third line travel company. On arrival with a colleague we booked in and were allocated our rooms. The accommodation is at the rear of the pub and is built in the style of a row of 2 up 2 down terraced houses. However the quality and cleanliness leave an awful lot to be desired. The walkway was dirty and rather shabby. The actual room was cold and grubby with stains on the bed linen. My nights sleep was unpleasant due to the strong smell of cleaning product coming from the bathroom which was ironic as it was far from clean. In the morning my colleague and I went for breakfast to be confronted with a notice stating breakfast was not available until 8am and should have been ordered the night before. None of this was mentioned at check in. We managed to have breakfast at the excellent cafe nearby. We returned to the pub at just after 8am to check out but the doors were still locked and no one could be raised by ringing the door bell. We left our keys in our rooms and went about our business of the day. In my opinion this is a very poor establishment that I would not stay in again under any circumstances.

Called in for Sunday carvery we were the only people in, the beef was good but the mash potato was very dry and the veg was over cooked it may have been because it was about 2ish when we called in and they finish at 3pm, but it was clean and friendly.

Re-visited The Downe Arms to meet up with friends pre-Christmas. There was no Christmas menu just the standard one. All meals came with chips so no healthy choice. My friend and I were the only diners on a Thursday evening and there was little atmosphere, save for the few older men enjoying an evening pint!

Over the years and various incarnations, the Downe Arms has served food that has varied from fair to good. Hadn't been for a while and decided to go and try it again recently. What a disaster. The interior has had a charm removal makeover. We should have known better than to stay as there was no-one else in apart from one or two drinking miserably at the bar. Ordered a mixed grill and it was as if it had been lightly boiled in fat rather than grilled - totally inedible. Partner had very below average scampi .Avoid.

Just a one night stay to attend wedding at nearby Carlton towers. Rooms basic but clean warm and comfortable. Rooms could benefit from a touch up and towels we had had certainly seen better days, holes and frayed and really let the image down. Which was a shame as plenty hot water and a good sized bathroom. Staff very friendly and helpful and breakfast was nice plentiful and reasonably priced. All in all an ok stay and fine if need somewhere inexpensive to just lay your head.

The room has everything you'll need for a comfortable stay & a desk to do work, the pub is nicely decorated with a decent & cheap menu, the only set back for me was the fact the rooms don't have a wifi connection so I struggled to make calls or send messages (I'm on Vodafone) on the whole though it does what you'd expect for £40 a night.

Wanted a nice coffee somewhere and found this place on the map, what a great little find!! Set by the lake with indoor and outdoor seating, great menu, quality food and generous with the portions. We had coffees and full English brekkie and veggie brekkie. Top recommendation, great place and friendly staff.
