I love this pub but felt a bit let down today I went to the bar and there was a couple waiting to be seved a young girl served them in the mean time a young lad filling the glass washer didn't serve me By that what looked like one of his mates walked in and the lad loading the glass wash poured him a pint and asked the girl before serving me to take the payment I found it quite rude to be fair I was going to say something there and then but I didn't want to cause a scene I've been going in the pub quite some years and they have it down to a t please don't spoil the friendliness of it by doing this

Unable to order food as bookings only. Would be nice if phone was answered on the 11 attempts made to make a booking. Attitude of staff “ok then” not appreciated.

Great place to eat. I had the steak and ale pie which was great.

The atmosphere in ‘Shakey’ is always friendly and welcoming for everyone. I have been in many times both with groups of friends and family (with children) and the staff are brilliant! The food is top notch, the menu is varied and it hits the spot every time. The chef also does specials during the week that wouldn’t look out of place on a Michelin Star Restaurant menu. Regularly local artists play music in the tent outside, so it’s a great place to be on a Summers day to enjoy drinks and listen to live music. Can’t recommend enough!

The food is amazing! I came with my family and everyone enjoyed their food. Amazing quality and quantity! Can’t wait to try something different. Great service too.

Best pub around by far. Food is exceptional. Service is amazing. Everyone is so friendly. Big car park and live music every week. The specials are amazing. Definitely need to book as busy all week!! ❤️

So we have recently moved to this area so we are local to here. We have a also tried every pub in the area and this one is the best, for some things. The food is exceptional, very tasty, prices are about right for the quality too. Decent selection of ales and lagers. Now I say the best for some thing as the feeling we get when we go I here isn't very welcoming. The locals are rather ignorant and do not move for you at all if you want to get the bar. It's rather small the movement of others is important. Again, the locals make the atmosphere a bit thick and it can get loud. The staff are ok but not memorable. There is a decent sized car park that is enough for the pub size. But, it's definitely the prettiest and has the best food. We'll go back and keep hoping for friendly welcome or even face.

A lovely Sunday lunch as always ... very generous portion, lots of lovely veg, nice meat and huge Yorkshire pudding!

Quaint pub with good beer and friendly staff

We had burgers. One beef, one chicken. The chicken whas dry en burned. Onion rings full with grease. Chips were ok. Didn't feel welcome at all. Nobody came to ask if it whas ok. Not going back.

Cosy pub but no food despite online and sign stating on

Visited with a group of friends on Sunday for Christmas dinner. Food and service were fabulous. There were eight of us in total and all the main meals arrived together piping hot. The turkey was cooked to perfection as were all the trimmings and veggies. I had the Belgian Chocolate truffle for dessert which was divine! Thanks to Kate, Graham and all The Shakey Crew. Top drawer 👏👏

Too busy and poor vegetarian options

Grabbed a few pints in Shakey whilst on a pre Christmas whistle stop visit to family. An absolutely corking pint (or 3) of Guinness 👍

Food was great. Unfortunately the service was appalling, there were 5 of us in our party, 3 of us got our meals after a 40 minute wait, the other 2 had to wait a further 25 minutes! Won't be going back

Absolutely outstanding food...tried different meals all to exceptionally high standards.... plenty for you're money, very filling, friendly atmosphere and reasonably priced considering how much you get... This is definitely my favourite pub in this area by far.....will always be back.

This lovely pub has been my local now for well over a year. We visit quite often on one of our walks for a stop off and enjoy a few drinks in the lovely beer garden. I visited today with my sister and niece and we enjoyed a fantastic meal, the food was fantastic. It’s a very friendly place and usually someone engages us in conversation on our visits. I am visiting again with my husband and a couple of friends for lunch tomorrow. We always receive a friendly welcome from the lovely staff. Highly recommended.

We come to Shakey most weekends and can honestly say it never disappoints, the food and the staff are amazing and we are so lucky to have such a fab local on our doorstep! We would highly recommend this pub to everyone 😃

Great local pub, plenty of live entertainment throughout the year, great selection of food, the weekly specials are very sort after, you have to be quick for a booking, well done the Shakespeare.

Everything was brilliant , the food was excellent service was brilliant they can’t do enough for you menu choice was really good will certainly be back for more .

What a great find. Lovely pub, fantastic service and the food was absolutely top drawer. Loved our cocker spaniel pup Henry and made a real fuss of him. A must for everyone. Definitely be back soon, thank you again.

Place to be on a hot summers day in hedon

Had a lovely refurbishment, food well cooked and with a twist. Great value.

We stopped off at the Shakespeare Inn on the way back from the hospital. Its been a while since we have been and its undergone a total refurbishment. The outside area is just loverly with lights, cover and comfy seating. We stayed inside as it was cooler for our dog ( the pub is dog friendly ). We ordered 3 mains - chicken tika, chicken kebab and hallumi salad. All dishes were fresh, well cooked with good quality ingredients, the staff are friendly and professional. Highly recommended- we will definitely be back.

Good service, most beers seemed to be off but Doom bar was good. Food was good apart from the Yorkshire blue sauce on the steak was really salty

Don't want to give negative point but table of 6 ladies who were very loud certainly spoilt our afternoon meal and chat couldnt hear ourselves. But certainly everything else very positive Lovely plateful of hot tasty food. Small pub loved the chandelier great outside seating. Service and staff were great

We went too Shakespeare for Sunday dinner yesterday no complaints apart from one and its no problem. My wife had the turkey dinner and only veg she could have was brocoli and carrot she loves cauliflower but all you had was cauliflower cheese and she has an allergy too cheese apart from that all good

Ordered a buffet from Shakespeare for my birthday celebrations. Was outstanding, it tasted and looked wow!! Kate will tailor make your catering to suit and she did a lovely selection which included grazing plates, frittata, cheeses etc assorted yummy sausage rolls, ham and cheese savoury croissants, vegetarian foods rounded off by a lovely fresh fruit platter amongst other things. Great assortment! The food was all homemade and presented on lovely platters. Very reasonably priced especially given the outstanding quality. I can't recommend highly enough!!!!

Come back time and time again.. why? Because nowhere else compares... food is beaut.. cooked to perfection!! DOG FRIENDLY which is an added bonus!! (Water bowls provided) STAFF go above and beyond.. enough of me just go and try it yourselves!! Nights with live music... also!!

We have been visiting the Shakespeare for about a year now as we moved to Hedon in 2021. The pub is a lovely olde world pub and the food is lovely, all fresh produce and cooked to order. All the staff are very friendly. There is a nice beer garden to enjoy when the weather is good. I would highly recommend the Shakespeare.

The Shakespeare Inn Hedon is a great pub. It serves good hand-pulled cask conditioned real ale, sadly not a given in a lot of pubs these days. It does excellent food. Outdoor seating for the summer and It has a good sized car park, and I've seen some good live bands play here. Thanks to the owner for supporting live music. I definitely recommend this pub.

Food is absolutely delicious with a great choice, staff very friendly, plenty of parking places. Would recommend you book if you are going for a meal as seems to be very busy at meal times.

Geninely the best pub food I've had in some time, decent drinks and friendly staff. Just a shame it's not a little bigger as can get busy inside on a winter but that's a testament to how popular it is.

Recently visited to see an acquaintance play guitar on a Sunday evening. Nice looking pub from the outside. No on site parking that we could see due to a marquee but we did find a spot on the road adjacent after taking 2 trips around the one way system. We squeezed ourselves into a tiny little bar, which was already almost full. All seating not taken was reserved so we had to stand beside the constantly opening entry/exit. Lighting was so bright and there was so much of it that it really was a struggle to be comfortable. We only stayed for 2 drinks due to no seating and the lighting. Some of the reserved seating wasn't used in the time we were on the premises. Not an enjoyable experience I'm afraid.

Genuinely surprised, called in for a quick bar snack and a pint. The beer was good and local, but the food was great. The menu was extensive and included lots of gluten free options but don't order a bar snack unless you are really hungry. I finished my halloumi burger but only with a bit of an effort.... Excellent..

Small country-type pub. Very nice food reasonably priced, quiet atmosphere, parking & outside space. If I could suggest one improvement maybe buy some sort of capsule coffee machine & not just offer "instant"! Worth going back to.

The pub itself is all as reported in other reviews, excellent, but as a nearby resident I have to say that the excessive noise from outside music events just isn't acceptable. As well as houses surrounding the pub there are numerous residential homes within a very short distance, I'm not sure that granny will appreciate "Mister E's Funky Soulful House" all day with the base thumping away at 100+ decibels. Shakey used to be a nice quiet local drinkers ' pub until Covid forced the present situation on us and they extended out into the car park by erecting a tent. I would like to think the present landlords would make it so again but I doubt it, after all it's all about making money! I certainly don't want to stop people having fun, but I'd appreciate it if they would have the same respect for myself and other local residents.

I really enjoy this pub, it has a great selection of beers and a cosy interior and lots of space outdoors. We have had a few meals here and it is all in generous portions and well prepared. My only negative point would be the fish. Being from East Yorkshire we know our fish and chips. The two times I have ordered it here you are presented with a great looking fish, hand cut chips and salad and peas. However the fish inside the batter is a bit of a mystery. It is glassy in appearance and so tender that the fork falls through it, it is also pretty much tasteless. Really disappointing as somebody has gone to great lengths to make it look fantastic, but the raw ingredients let it down. The other meals were good, particularly the dirty nacho's.

Nice outdoor areas, great range of food and drink, pleasant staff, quietish inside.
